- I've started to apply sound deadening and insulation to my self build camper, so at this stage my Fiat Ducato campervan is extremely basic (I've only just started the van build). So I got a taste of what a cheap camper conversion is like to stay in. And more importantly I found out the importance of camper van insulation and a good bed!

As well as showing you a bit of the van build, I headed out to test the temporary set up for my 1st van camping night. Although I had a lot of fun, the sleeping part was a bit of a disaster! But it's important to test things out in the early stages of the van build.

put a duvet on your air mattress and sleep on it. keeps the cold away from the floor 😉 we always do it ourselves when we go camping.
Yeah I actually did that last night! Plus a bit of insulation in the floor and it was nice and warm
I've seriously been considering an air mattress permanently. A quality air mattress that can be used like. A Murphy bed. Maybe store it standing between the cab and living area.
Hi Adz, a wee tip about changing the headlight bulbs on those style of van’s. Unscrew the two torx head bolts securing the headlight. Then slide the headlight to the side. For example drivers side to the right and passenger side to the left.
Then you’ll have better access to the back of the headlight unit.👌🏻

The window on the left sliding door is a safe bet long term as you get a better idea when over taking to see real view where any vehicle is and when it's safe to pull back in especially in darker conditions.

Get yourself a thermarest inflating mat. You can get R values up to 11 equal to three four season camping mats stacked. They have kept us warm in a tent at -7 to -15 Scotland in November as the only thing between us and the floor.
Ah they sound ideal! I definitely would’ve got one but I think it’ll only be 1 or 2 more camps before I get a bed in place mate
Aaw, the classic "suffering in a brand new van" experience. 😁It will make you appreciate every bit of added comfort SO much more. When I had just bought my car, I could NOT wait. I threw in a yoga mat and a sleeping bag and drove towards Italy. I have never been in such pain before as I was in the first night. In the morning, I drove straight to an IKEA in Austria and came out with a mattress. When I started with the build, I would cut up that very mattress and use it for my pull-out bed that I have to this day. ✌Can't wait to see what you're gonna do with that van of yours! 💪
Yeah I think it was definitely a good thing to experience the metal shell of a van haha. Can’t wait to get a real mattress now!

I saw your video the last time you were at Oaktree Motorhomes and ended up going up there and buying one! Happy with the purchase and hopefully going to be using it loads. Off to Oulton Park for the British Super Bikes this coming weekend.

@@Adz been making do with a jackery explorer 500 but need more power now, so it’s either solar or bigger solar generator like the eco flows that charge up quicker than the jackerys

i think you should do a step by step build process as they will be people out there inc my self also looking at doing a build also seen what set up your doing on and of grid etc , i have a l3h2 relay van i am looking to convert in the next month , look ford to your next videos
I did consider it but I don’t think it’s be good for the channel in the long run. I am going to be showing a lot of bits along the way but just not going too much into detail really. Ah good luck with yours mate! It’d be nice to have an L3! But I needed something a little more convenient for parking outside my house

What is your bed plans? I have been seeing a lot of murphy bed vans lately and it made me want one. Such an amazing space saver. Sofa during the day and bed at night without having to take sheets out. Best of both worlds.

Good job mate , you've saved yourself a fortune and had the satisfaction of doing it yourself.......i would stick that black shroud over the top though, screw it down and cover the screws with black sikaflex 👍 it would hide your wedding cake 😉

Heat rises Adz, get the electric blanket underneath yourself rather than inside the duvet and you’ll make better use of the heat its producing.
Spent a night in my unconverted caddy at about 0 degrees last weekend and even with a sleeping bag and a ridiculously thick duvet it was chillyyyy.
You can buy over blankets and under blankets. Mine is an over blanket (plus it’s stitched to the duvet).. but you can’t lay on top of this one. I didn’t get an under blanket at the time because you can’t use them on memory foam unfortunately. But fingers crossed the weather is warmer soon mate!
@@Adz ahh that makes sense. I didn’t know they made over blankets. Also didn’t know you couldn’t use the under ones on memory foam. Might have to rethink the strategy for my van haha. Thankfully the second night in the van was a lot warmer as it was 11C outside. Got a few weeks to get some work done on it before I head to scotland, won’t be anywhere near finished but hopefully it’ll at least be a bit warmer in the van by then 😅
I think some people have used them on memory foam but it’s apparently not the safest thing. But yeah in my caddy with the memory foam mattress, my blanket was amazing. I camped in -6 in the snow and the blanket made me too hot in the night. The air bed didn’t hold the heat in this vid. But tonight I have a duvet underneath me and the electric blanket on top and it’s well nice and warm now. The next issue will be keeping the heat out in the summer 😂
@@Adz yeah I think i’d have been warmer in a tent than an unconverted van haha. Those big airbeds offer surprisingly little insulation underneath hey! Been using a mattress off my futon and that’s worked so far, will probably keep using it until I get the bed made up properly. Was warm underneath the covers but it was like breathing in icicles the air was that cold! Hope your night is warmer tonight. I’m just hoping my vans white paintjob helps with regards to heat in the summer 😂
there are certain things every man will try in a lifetime: sticking fingers into ac socket, shrooms, and sleeping in uninsulated van :D

Your Van looks great.. I am sure we will see lots of work done on it. I bought a Doblo High Roof for my first experience. Will do all the work myself. My main concern is about electrical. Not sure what is the best option. Lithium batteries and solar or one similar to your ANKER.
It really depends on your needs. If I had another micro camper I think I’d go with a power station. But in a bigger van I’m thinking I want both now 😂

Those silver things are not sound deadening - they're heat reflecting. Sound deadening occurs when porous material absorbs sound waves and prevents them from travelling further and spreading the sound. Foam is the best sound deadener as it has holes that causes sound waves to lose energy and disipate.

Most of the time I don’t really know exactly where they are. I just find them on ‘park for night’ and the sat nav leads me there. The last couple have been fairly local to me though so I didn’t want to say too much about the location mate

I think if you press the lock button twice on your key, it should disable the alarm means it won’t go off at night
That was how it was on my last van but the Ducato dead locks on 2 presses unfortunately
Try pressing your lock button twice when you’re in the van
Yeah like I say that worked on my last van but on this one it deadlocks and arms the alarm
Good thing about van life is that u have air-conditioning in the front as every vehicle has so u can use that whenever which is lucky

I can't believe you didn't get a small 240v heater blower from argoooosss before you went you could have run that for a few minutes to warm that space up, and secondly I would have had the van running for a few hrs with the blowers on 😂 looking forward to the build though 😀
I have loads of them from my last van but it wouldn’t have done anything without the insulation in there unfortunately! It’s all good I’ve fixed the issue now haha
