I thought I'd post my campervan bed build because although I've used the Skorva beams from Ikea, I've done things a little differently. I now have the most comfortable full double mattress, on a transverse fixed bed design. And it's easily removable!
This isn't just the most comfortable van life bed. It's the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in full stop.
Naturally I had to go and test the bed after it was build and this resulted in a very crazy few days at a van life event. So I hope you enjoy that too!

No need to lower the bed, build a storage bench step. You'll appreciate the extra storage in the long term for a bike and stuff, portable shower tray, full length jacket hangers
Exactly what i was thinking.
It's not too high.. it's the perfect compromise between storage space and height. There are some campervans with much higher beds. Also it's the strongest mounting point.
I was thinking the same 🤔 just buy/ build something.. something where you can put other stuff for extra space.
I did exactly that, bench seat with removable base. Got my whole electrical set up in there, batteries, inverter, controllers, charger,fuse box the lot. Also a great way to run cable from one side to the other. Gives massive garage space under bed.
The issue isn’t getting in and out of it though mate. I’ll be having a bench seat that could be used as a step. The issue is my storage and cinema idea above the bed won’t work. Plus less head room. But the main issue is not seeing out of the windows when sat up in bed. I don’t really need a big garage area
Following our chat we had over the weekend, I called A-Plan insurance today on the number you have provided in the description. I can confirm that they seemed thorough AND refreshing to deal with. They asked who I had heard of them through to which I mentioned you and got my 10% discount. I feel I now have the correct cover for my van conversion. I was very happy with the price too!
Yeah I’m well glad I went with them. My last van was just insured as a regular panel van and this one is insured at a much higher value because of the conversion but the insurance was the same price!
That was epic content.
As much as i enjoy seeing van builds and drone shots of beautiful places, you just cant beat seeing a great guy having a laugh with some lovely people.

Built a nice bed there. Might work to get a step for the bed, a step that doubles as something else you need. Go Bob Ross and call it a happy accident, make something good out of it. Looked like a good event there too. Good luck finishing the motor.

I put my bed even higher, have the wooden beam like you, and then another pice of wood that go up to each brackets. Mounted them upside down like you did. I fixed the metal beams from IKEA with L brackets, screwed. In front of the bed I have a seating area that I can step on to get up in the bed.
My issue isn’t with getting in and out of the bed though mate, because I’m going to have a seat/step too. It’s just with the height of the bed compared to the windows because I want to be able to have a nice view whilst sat up in bed

Don’t lower the bed fit a storage step. Having the height and space underneath is a must.
I’m not so fussed about storage really mate, it’s just a bit high compared to the windows that’s all
@@Adz not good for looking out in the morning then? Would have thought it was great for opening the back doors for great views even if you are backed up to hedges. Personally I would attach a bed at ceiling height with a mechanism to raise or lower it. Massive flexibility and just so cool.
Great, fun & informative vlog. With your insurance you mentioned that they have insured your van as a camper, did you have to change the classification on your log book to? where was it you stayed?
No the v5 doesn’t need to be changed to insure it as a camper. Not sure what you mean by where I stayed. This video is old now so maybe I mentioned something in the video about staying somewhere but can’t remember mate

are you going to install swivels on the front chairs? so you can rotate them around and have extra two seats ?
I’m probably going to on the passenger seat but there will be a unit behind the drivers seat
Put a cabinet to the door opening side of the van , you can use this to store a small fridge, , BUT underneath that fridge you can have a pull out section that’s solid and this can be used as a step to get up on the bed.
This can also be done with the storage area underneath the bed, on floor level, THEN you can use the space directly underneath the bed to insert a length of plywood from one side to the other, put this wood on heavy duty runners and this is is your new space-saving table. Don’t forget to put a locking mechanism on these to stop them from sliding out while travelling. (P.S. I actually don’t have my campervan yet but am studying every vlog and video on RUclips to learn as much as I can).
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve had my layout in mind for a long time already though :) the fridge will be elsewhere, but also the bench seat will be used as a step. But yeah I’ve seen people using heavy duty drawer runners for tables, seats and steps etc
Like the new van man looking for a decent portable battery that you use but not wanting to spend a fortune any ones you would recommend
It really depends on what you need to power and for how long. Cost wise they’re all very similar for the capacity you get. Ecoflow and Anker have been my favourite ones I’ve had. The ecoflow river 2 series is really good

Well I pressed the button on the dash but still not 100% sure it’s locking it properly 😂 and I was actually considering a spice rack!

I think in this video it was a standard double yeah. I’ve since switched to a small double from Emma mattress to make more room for the kitchen.

pinching all your tips adz love the bed set up what do you think on a mattress water proof covers top and bottom to stop mattress absorbing moisture
Thanks! I think that could stop the mattress from being able to breath though. I think it’s better to stop any moisture/condensation in the 1st place with good ventilation etc

Marking feom behind is spot on. Otherwise place strips of masking tapeover the metal, mark on the wholes and remove the tape. Transfer marks to timber
Yeah someone said that but because the van isn’t a flat surface I’m not sure it’d transfer correctly to the flat wood
