The animosity against this era of the bears bears was very high for Vikings fans, we just couldn’t seem to over the hump on these guys (because they were good). Ashley’s interception allowed for a release of a lot of pent up frustration. I was at the game with my Dad as a teenager. I jumped so high with excitement my feet landed on the handrails of my seat and I started jumping on those and I was reaching down and shaking my dads shoulders as Ashley passed in front of us on his way to the end zone. It remains one of the most exciting moments I ever witnessed in person.
What would have been interesting would have been if the Vikings hadn’t allowed the Steve Young touchdown run, and had won that game. The Niners who beat them wouldn’t have been in the playoffs, and (assuming Philly still loses to Chicago), then these Vikings and Bears would’ve faced off in the NFC Championship Game in Chicago (the Vikings won much more convincingly at Soldier Field than they did here).
This game nearly gave me a heart attack. I remember screaming at Walker Lee Ashley. "You'd better score, because our offense can't do anything!" What a game.
Oh wow, this was the Walker Lee Ashley game. I remember not getting to sleep after this until like 5:00AM and having the alarm clock go off an hour later. Good times!!
Had to love Lil' Leo Lewis. He was like 5 foot 7 inches and 150 pounds soaking wet with rocks in his pockets, but he got out there and took on the behemoths.
#75 Keith Millard! I have his jersey from his rookie season, with a treasure seeing him! He would have easily been a hall of farmer if his knees didn't finish his career
This is the year where the Joe Montana led 49ers went on a tear through the playoffs. Spanked the Vikings in the divisional round to get revenge for the year prior, and then spanked the Bears in the championship game. Then they beat Boomer Esiason and the Cincinnati Bengals with their Ickey Shuffle(remember that? lol) in the SB.
Tomczak with a bonehead interception at the end. Not sure why he was even throwing when the Bears had a guaranteed field goal. A run on 3rd and short with a pro-bowl running back like Neal Andersen would have been the correct call.
The bears were the only team who had a chance vs 49ers in 88' .... In fact bears beat the 49ers during a MNF game in 88' but the bears couldn't stay healthy they lost too many great players
LOL. NO, they didn't. They didn't get that far. Have to win games (like this one) to prove you are "The only team that has a chance against the 49ers") Blah, blah...
I haven't seen this game seen I was there in person with my season ticket holding uncle. Thanks for posting this and the memories it brings back.

Why didn't Chicago go for 2?
2 point conversions didn't start until the mid 90s.
