I love the Hoenn surf music.
I bet they tried really hard with that one because you're on water half of the time.
Allan Sunny everyone says your on water most of the time in that game, more like a total of 2 hours compared to the 20 or so other hours of gameplay.

I actually like how earlier regions have far more water routes. Nowdays, it seems that surf is only used to get to extra stuff. I loved the sea exploration in Johto and Hoenn.
And if you're going to complain about the tentacools/wingulls, all I've got to say is that Repels exist for a reason.
And the only thing it was used for in X/Y was the last part of Victory Road. :/
***** hehe i remember on the old Gold Silver and Crystal versions i kept getting lost. After abit i made my own map and learned how to get to places ^_^ newer gamers (or atleast some of them) seem to want to get to places faster and not deal with puzzels. its kinda sat TBH. I just hope they dont get rid of the Brail puzzels. Ever. There annoying but fun :3

+JojoSO4 I saw somewhere that the pokemon g/s was planed to be the last pokemon game. and the musics specially the surf theme make this very clear, you can really felling (shulk) that it was made to be something like a epic final adventure.(personally the johto version is my fav version)

fan of Sinnoh, the game moves slowly. Well, in terms of battles, so I would suggest turning text speeds up, but then you sort of miss the battle victory themes. They are suprisingly long and great when it goes on sometimes.

Hoenn and Gen 3 overall are forever my favorites. But R/S/E's surf theme is actually only my second-favorite surf theme. Johto's surf theme really is the best.

Couldn’t agree more, I feel the exact same way down to Hoenn being my favorite region (at least speaking in terms of RSE, not ORAS). Never played the original Johto games but their surf theme is now my second favorite in all of Pokémon, right behind the dive theme for Hoenn.

Hoenn's surf theme is so smooth and springy it's like ice-skate waltzing on the ocean through the waves. You can feel the freedom of exploring the region like no other. It feels like anything is possible. Johto's surf theme is like skipping on the water and then, without warning, being sucked into an amazing adventure with great joys and terrible sorrows. Kanto's surf theme is like being stuck in a never-ending merry-go-round from hell. Not that they're necessarily bad per se, but the rest aren't really worth describing because they're just not that memorable or iconic, and they sound like Game Freak's trying too hard when they've run out of ideas. However, since I've come this far and you've presumably read this far, never mind that. Here goes: Sinnoh's surf theme sounds too much like a lullaby and hardly anything like a surf theme. Unova's surf theme sounds like an old-school J-pop song. Kalos' surf theme sounds like it could pass as a dance piece from a Disney movie. Oddly enough, they're all still enjoyable and catchy, even the ones that don't really fit as surf themes. I actually quite like them, although I have mixed feelings about the HGSS surf theme... :P

gen 1: Feels the most like surfing. classic. Like it.
gen 2: my favourite. It's just a masterpiece. It builds up nicely and its just perfect. I get chills every time.
gen 3: my first surf theme. It's just amazing. Quite relaxing too
gen 4: Really peaceful and gives you that "sinnoh" feeling. I love the first notes. I really love it.
gen 5: Its good. Reminds me of surfing into the sunsest with a happy ending :D really enjoyable, but nothing too special. nice beat and I love the melody
gen 6: Super relaxing and sounds so soft. I think stronger melody would make it better, but I still like it.

gen 7: I love the added bubble sound effects and water drop effects. Maybe bit too "fast" for my liking but it kind of fits the pokeride and alola. I love it.

The 5th gen broke all the rules of Pokemon. No previous gen remake, no Pikachu in the first game, the main legendary appearing and defeating the evil team AFTER the elite four, no battling the champion first time around, and a surf song in 4/4 time instead of 3/4 or 6/8 time.
Much of what the 5th gen did is forgivable. But not the surf theme. An atrocity, that was.
Arbitrary Renaissance What gen 5 did was actually good. The evil team showing up to the pokemon league that makes team plasma even more badass.
Also it had no Cycling Road, no Safari Zone, no Gambling Corner and it had sequels instead of a third version.

As someone who's been around since gen 1, my favorite is definitely gen 2's surf theme. I love all the others though, I think it's obvious that in each game they put a lot of effort into making the surf theme something really special. Man, Pokemon has such beautiful music.

HG was my first Pokemon game (even thou I met the series with R/S/E but never had my own cartridge), when I heard the surf theme after a long time nostalgia hit me hard.

Hoenn’s music is richer in variety and layers but Johto’s tune and overall melody is just so, so beautiful, and will always be number one for me because of the memories of what it was like when the second generation came out and took such a beautiful leap forward in colour for Pokémon. The Johto tune captures the emotions so amazingly, my nostalgia is just ecstatic.
GSC/HGSS Are my favorite Pokemon games, with the best Pokemon and music.

Kanto: I'm pretty neutral about this one in all honesty. Its the model surf theme in my eyes.
Johto: Probably my favourite in both of its versions. I think I love it more because of PokeRemixStudio's remix of it though.
Hoenn: The GBA rendition is good, but ORAS's is my true favourite surf theme, and it made the last part of the game great to play through.
Sinnoh: It goes with the slow surfing speed of DP, but in Platinum, you don't always get to hear the good bit xD
Unova: The odd one out and I love it.
Kalos: My least favourite. It just never stuck with me.

I like the Johto and Hoenn ones the best because I grew up playing them but, Kanto's were also really good. Sinnoh's made me sleepy :). Unova's theme was really up beat to me so I usually just went surfing to bring myself some energy. I haven't played Kalos so when I heard this it made me want to play it, it sounds like something you'd hear at disneyland(well in my opinion.)

Yeah, the waltz themes are okay, but surfing needs to at least have some energy into it. Gen V did just that.
Dont even get me started on Gen IV's surf theme. It's really bad already combined with the slow pace of the game. The waltz isn't helping the surf theme in DPPt any better.
But at least XY really stepped up their waltz.
Gen 1 to 3 were amazing. But the years gone by made the soundtracks unmemorable. Because those tracks didn't have much energy put into them. A lot of the tracks have a lot of energy. but when surfing. It just seems to kill the adventurous vibe of pokemon. Gen V did just that.
So yeah, making it unique makes it so much better apart from the other surf themes, which is what makes it so great.

The gen 5 surf theme reminds me of the S.S. Aqua theme. As for favorites, I have none. They're all special in their own way.
