British Leyland comes to mind for the granddaddy of all terrible mergers. In hindsight, Queen Elizabeth, herself, should have forbade its creation AND forced the existing British Motor Holdings to disband and restore Pressed Steel and other captive entities to individual corporations as they were before. Harold Wilson was among the worst PM's and contributed his part to run British auto manufacturing into the ground.

Toyota Motor is recalling 381,199 Toyota Tacoma trucks with model years 2022 and 2023 in the US over a brake performance issue that increases the risk of a crash.
The problem stems “welding debris left on the ends of the rear axle assembly during manufacturing,” which may lead to an axle shaft separation, Toyota said in a notice on Tuesday.
The auto manufacturer said that affected customers will be notified via mail by late April 2024.
Toyota is sinking fast just like every other brand. It's by design. TPTB (World Economic Forum) don't want the masses to own private cars. " You'll own nothing, go nowhere, and like it! "
come on Scotty. it makes a huge amount of sense for VAG Stellantis & Renault Group to combine their EV technologies. you yourself keep saying that current EVs are all wrong. this European project should spawn a series of affordable EVs for the masses that aren't Chinese.
even the Japanese manufacturers are moving closer and closer to combining their platforms.
One joint venture that worked though - Fiat (Stellantis) joined up with Maza to build the 124 Spider. Great car, but mostly a Miata except for the styling and engine. But leave it to Stellantis to screw it up with zero marketing and it only was in production for 4 years. Got mine though, and it's amazing.
18 years ago you could buy a house for 130k. Maybe not a super nice one, but still, a complete house! Not a mobile home!
15 years ago I could have bought a five-bedroom 3.5 bath Craftsman house with a two-car garage for $130,000. It was a foreclosure and was in good shape!! It was in Charlotte North Carolina.. near the Catawba River. It was only 4 years old.
In WV you can buy a house for under $10000 but it will need work
To perfect it they should partner with Lucas Electric for the electrical components.
And you couldn't park the trailer in the shade, or the solar panels wouldn't work. You would have to park in the sun.

60 years ago Volkswagen was a good car. In the mid 80s, I was a car salesman and we sold Renaults. Some of their owners swore by them at that time. Every car maker has good and bad vehicles.

hey scotty my dad bought me an 05 subaru baja turbo, and it needed some work so we took it to a local shop. seller said it had a blown head gasket, mechanics said it didn't, they replaced some parts and fixed a pinhole coolant leak. i watched the coolant frothing as they topped it up, they said it was just a few air bubbles and slightly overfilled. it was a blown head gasket, 4 months and a 4200$ bill later they gave it back with missing parts and running worse than when the head gasket was blown. i do not trust their work, should i take it to another shop and if it's messed up sue them?
The defroster reminds me of a line in Jurassic Park something like They were so focused on if they could do it they didn't stop and think should they do it?
Put it in the gas tank and it also dumped some down in the 02 sensor hole with the cat never gave me a problem.
Do you recommend rebuilding an engine and transmission before they are having problems or wait until they do? This is more I want to keep driving the same car forever rather than replace her. Thanks.
Hi Scotty, Love your videos Mr. Fellow Western New Yorker! You're a great guy telling the truth & what works. God Bless you & your family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you again!
I’m amazed how many Teslas are running around our town. There are no charging stations that I know of. So people are charging them at home which sounds real risky to me. I wouldn’t roll one of those things into my garage whether it was in charge mode or not.
What part of that sounds risky? Are you concerned about the 10 EVs that the news reported caught fire even though insurance statistics show many more ICE fires per mile driven? I've been charging my car in my garage for almost 6 years. I've also been charging my phones and laptops inside my house for the last 20 years😮 but none of them have caught fire. If you're really concerned about it, you can change settings to charge to less than 100% and as a bonus your batteries will last longer.
@@jongoode3296 Ten is enough to make me wary of them. Good luck with those things. I’m not interested in them at all for many reasons.

Hey, man, my 2015 VW Jetta with only 65,000 miles has only ever given me one problem and that was a wheel speed sensor. Other than that, it's been a great car. Who can complain about a little old speed sensor. So, the service was a little pricey and I would for sure replace it myself the next time, but, it gets fantastic gas mileage (nearly 40 mpg) AND it has very snappy response on the gas pedal.
NO SCOTTY, in the OLD days 70's, we ran the engine at a high rpm and poured brake fluid down the carburator- to clean out the carbon
Per my Dad, the OLD days were the 40-50's where they ran a lot of kerosene in the oil to get their exhausts cherry red to burn off carbon.

It is indeed a good car. Volkswagens are good cars if and only if you make sure to maintain them.
VW are historically bad cars. Every now and then you get a good one but it's rare.
@@bh2155Never had a problem with mine. Perhaps I am just really lucky.
@@bh2155 Nope, not true, although as cars get more complicated the overall reliability has declined over the decades, especially since the mid-late 2000s.
@@horseathalt7308 it is very true VW has ranked worse than average for reliability for years. One example is their EA888 engines all 3 generations that went into VW and Audi are horrible with timing chain failure, plastic water pumps that leak, oil leaks from gaskets, failing intake manifolds the list goes on and on with VW. I worked for the state DOT and we had some Dodge trucks in the fleet and hated them when they'd act up because the HVAC system would default to defrost. Had one that did it because of a vacuum leak.

1994 Honda Accord LX and 1996 VW Golf GL....they are bulletproof and don't do things I don't want them to because of too much computer control!
@@horseathalt7308 Hes not entirely wrong, my 1993 Thunderbird defaulted to defrost. Its was anoying, but the safest thing to do. My 1993 f150 is manual control, wherever the lever inside the dash breaks, thats where it stays untill repaired.

@@horseathalt7308 Dude your VW has way more electronics than any car from the eighties or nineties. Most defrost defaults are vacuum operated systems, and finding and fixing the leak fixes it without replacing computer modules, or replacing an expensive actuator hiden 3 hours into the dashboard.

I pulled up the Bernie's ATS Cleaner website and it was down and the other websites that had the same key term said the cleaner wasn't available. So is not being sold anymore or if it is sold where is it sold now?
Many years ago I had a Renault Fuego. I enjoyed driving it but it did have some electrical issues. Great design but poor execution back then. European auto electrics have always been behind the 8 ball compared to what Japan can produce.
I had used Renault Alliance for college. I paid 600 dollars for that car and I got a lot of use out of it. It had it's problems but it was no worse than similar cars from Ford, Dodge and GM. I drove it until 160k miles
The theme song for the three stooges was “three blind mice”.
I think I heard of that. It´s kinda what Carlos Ghosn almost made... With Fiat Chrysler. Sure these days mergers are good from a financial point of view but...
So then it´s really Nissan and Mitsubishi and probably Fisker for EVs.
Thank you Scottie. What do you think about Marvel Mystery oil?
He’s talked about it numerous times. It has no use in a modern car and will just cause damage.
I agree with you on this one!
VW outsells Tesla in Europe and is #1 in EV sales there I think. So I am not sure what Scotty is saying here.
The VW’s sold in Europe are much higher quality than the same or similar models in the US market. There is a general conception in the US that VW quality has fallen.

Before buying a battery powered vehicle you have to ask yourself how long does your cell phone battery last? I’m talking years of service. Maybe a hybrid with an extended warranty but a battery replacement quote must be added to the deal.

Stellantis has 18 billions dollars benefit in 2023. It 's their best result ! Now their brands have a real power in car industry. PSA has multiplied its benefits a lot because of the merger. It was a great decision.

I’m glad that I bought my two big V8 Dodges before this merger. I’ll hang onto them. In this market, no new vehicles for me and definitely no EV.
We already know what the results will probably be of this possible merger, since it has happened before. Nissan being the sad example. Over the years I owned 4 Nissan cars and trucks. Mainly because Nissan cars at one time were on par with Toyota and Honda for design and build quality and reliability.
Then in 1999, Renault bought/merged/acquired Nissan (and Mitsubishi, and Infiniti).
Nissan quality, is now on par with Renault quality. Now I own Toyota and Lexus instead.
Nissan was never the quality of Honda or Toyota 😂

@@slalomking They were right on par, from the 1970s-1990s.

Inherited my wife's 06 Murano, and been pretty good at keeping it maintained to its current 170K.
Luckily got in under the wire with the trans replaced at 118K at 2 months shy of the 10 year mark.
So far have had the hi-pressure hose PS replaced, valve cover gaskets, CVT axles done.
Not sure how much the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi partnership impinges on Nissan's actual engineering of their vehicles, but I'll never buy one again unless they start focusing like Toy/Hon on mechanical engineering and reliability vs looks.
Nissan's Jatco CVTs are still crap after 20+ years, yet Toyotas and anything later than gen1 Honda CVT are close to bullet-proof in comparison. Nissan has known this for decades, and has spent hundreds of millions on extending warranties to help band-aid over the fact vs just doing the right thing and engineering something respectable and attainable as witnessed by Toy/Hon.
Nissan is the Chrysler of the Japanese Auto Industry.

Regarding overheating cars: out of desperation I finally removed the thermostat from my old VW Rabbit and it still overheated. It was a pile of junk.
Scotty, the funny is people will buy a Fiat for $90k ...I mean a Ram truck, well same thing. Do not buy an 2005 Lexus they have Toyota Lexus melting dash syndrome. The interiors melt. My Mom has an 06 Is350 the doors and console and dash just fell apart-melted. Lexus won't help, they did until 03/2020 but didn't notice the owners. Now they only offer labor but you have to buy the parts about $5000.00. It happens to all 2003-2016 The car always garaged 34,000. miles. I wouldn't go near one. Also she's had brake issues constantly and at least 5 batteries.
Maybe you mean the ES330, as there was no such LS350 or ES350. ES350 came out in 2007 or 2008. We have a 2006 ES330, and it's a fantastic car. No melting dashes. As for batteries, seems like maybe there's something draining them? We haven't had any brake issues. Probably replaced pads and rotors 3 times over the past 15 years. Other than that, it's a solid car, that drives great.
No she has an IS 350 I'm positive. They've never been able to figure why the battery issue or the squealing brakes and excessive brake wear. It's very fast I'll give it that.
