Hey Scotty, when are you going to do a video on the Tacoma rear-axle shaft recall? You slammed the Ford Maverick because one guy told you his catalytic converter was glowing. Fair is fair.
Mazda has been getting better in North America these past couple of years. The biggest issue used to be paint and undercoating problems. I had a 2008 Mazda 3. Nice car but the paint around the rear fenders started to flake off and rust and rust started to form on the trunk two years after I bought it . The paint issues were common on Mazda in the 2000's and early 2010s. Apparently they were undercoat properly.

My 2011 Rav4 was built in Ontario, Canada. Sold brand new in Fargo ND, until it went to Atlas Auto in Grand Forks ND in April of 2021. Where I bought it. It's needed an alternator (original) and rear control arms (upper and lower) replaced after an accident (not my fault). Great winter vehicle, I run Hankook Kinergy ST tires year round, no issues. 17" tires.
There are lots of good car plants in North America. But they are dominated by Toyota, Honda and Subaru. It's those manufacturers that hire good engineers and a dedicated production workers. The Japanese plants in North America seem to have that. Ford, GM and Chrysler have been at war with their employees since at least the 1950s. But I agree with Scottie...maybe the Japanese productions lines produce better vehicles. The Cambridge Ontario Toyota plant you mentioned consistently is one of the top plants in North America.
My 6 year old Nissan was made in Mexico. Only problem so far has been a noisy rear wheel bearing that I replaced myself. The original bearing was made in India.

I have multiple turbo cars. Our Ford Edge (2018 2.0L Ecoboost) is averaging 26.8 MPG , the Ford Ranger (2019, 2.3L Ecoboost) averages 24.8 MPG and our GMC Terrain (2021 1.5L Turbo) averages 30.0 MPG. All are combined city and highway averages. In my opinion, that is great mileage for vehicles of their size and capability. Certainly better than I got from similar naturally aspirated vehicles in the past, many of which had less power.
For quite a while now, almost all roof panels are put in place with structural adhesive.... no welds. Crash tests have proven the adhesive is stronger! When i was in body and paint work, we used a two part epoxy product called Sims structural panel adhesive. Used Duramix also.
I have a 2016 Mazda 3 with a 6 speed manual, 113K miles.... except for the brake rotors/calipers at 110K, I have had zero problems. Just filled the gas tank 384 Mi / 9.7 Gallons. 70/30 Freeway/City. 5K Mi service schedule full synthetic oil.
I took my wife Cx5 outside it was a blast😁 very solid vehicle and awd with turbo and the torque is powerful and fun after that i never got to drive it again i must had too much fun with it😂
I have 2014 Forester with 140k. Second best car. My 2010 3.6 litre Outback was nicer. Smooth transmission and more power. Beautiful riding. But the Forester is fine too.
Mazdas have generally been decent cars. You can usually get a used one a little cheaper than a Toyota or Honda and still expect above average reliability. The only thing was that you had to kind of avoid a few of their automatic transmissions. Most of their automatics have been good but there are a handful of them that you want to stay away from especially when you got to 100,000 miles.
1990 Mazda 323 Hatchback was my first ::new:: car (cash purchase Oct 1990 for just $8k...fwd-at-ac-4 spkrs-antenna-NO RADIO🙀). A sublime driving experience; a sand crab on roller skates! ...seamless connection with the road. BUT...auto trans failed at around 80k mi.
Scotty you're great. I have a 2014 VW Jetta TDI. I love the car... Guinness world record in fuel consumption. Can you do a video on TDIs??? It is my belief that dieselgate was only about killing alternative fuel cars for EVs to dominate.
mazda 3 diesel hatchback for 10 years!no problems!toyota auris ts hybrid for 6 years!the same!now,a beautiful and marvelous prius plugin 23'!japans for ever!❤
Mazda and Toyota formed a joint partnership, they are still different companies. The CX50 and Toyota Corolla Cross are essential the same cars, but the Corolla Cross costs less. 😂 Toyota didn’t buy Subaru. Is350 😅 Lexus is part of Toyota. 🙉
Last Tacoma I had bought in Spring of 02’ & it was V-6, 4x4, Xtended cab, TRD, 31x10x50 tires & it would burn them off. Owned it 14yrs sold it for $7,200k! Toyota? They’ve been good to me!!
Great car there. I have a 19 Crosstrek Premium manual like you showed and mine's even black. I don't know why the guy's battery went down with the headlights left on. When you take the key out of the ignition, all lights shut off. My light switch is always on and has been since 2019 when I bought it. The guy must have left the key in the ignition when he got out of the car. I completely agree with you on the stupid electronic emergency brake. We also have a Legacy with that stupid electric ebrake and it takes me 5 minutes to figure out how to shut it off.
to me, the CVT on the Toyota Corolla I rented wasn't terrible, but not great. The real deal-breaker for me was the awful electric power steering - took so many constant steering corrections, not comfortable to drive as my 99 Mustang six is -
The CVT in my '22 OB XT is fine.... very little difference between that and our previous 2010 Chevy Malibu 4cyl. Two things about the CVT: 1) CVTs LOVE an engine with ample torque, the more the engine has, the more the CVT acts & feels just like a classic automatic transmission, and 2) If you are the type of driver that has to frequently stomp on the gas, and then stab the brakes over & over & over as a driving style, you're probably not going to care for any vehicle with a CVT.
Later they sent me another offer when I had 88k on it for $25k. Turned em down’; in 21’ offered me $21k w/89k miles on it. I only have 90k now. No, it’s not driven much! I payed $27k for it in 16’.
Hey Scotty, just so you know, my daughter's 2014 Mazda 3 is made in Mexico, and we have never had a lick of trouble with it. It has 200 000 on the clock, and still starts and drives like new. So, maybe you need to ask other owners what they think.
I used to drive a Ford explorer V6 engine 28 years ago but it was blew up head gasket just 90,000 + miles. Maybe that is why not a whole lot of people driving domestic car any more
I love this Mazda CX-5 car. it's just to small in the back. Im 6 foot 1 inch. The Cx-5 should have been modeled after the interior space of a Honda CRV.
Hmm. Even my old '09 Impreza 5 speed manual turns the headlights off if you leave them on at the light switch and switch off the car. They changed that on the new ones? The only way I can allow headlights to run down the battery is to shut the car off and then switch the headlights on manually and walk away.
In 2016 I bought a 2013’ Toyota Tacoma, 4x4, 4-dr, at, SR-V, sliding window, has skid plate under engine but NOT a TRD. In 20’ Toyota sent me an offer of $28k. I had 87k on it then. Turned em’ down.
Production of a manual transmission makes no specific pollution. A main advantage in compare the EV batteries. And it will go forever without any major cost.
I just bought an 06 Camry it has a 2.4 letter engine about a month ago very reliable I bought it for 5,900 for it l had a Ford 500 I had problems with everything went wrong with one thing after another every 3 months but the engine transmission was fine everything goes on on our car my wife axle beam snapped in half repair what's too expensive so I got a Camry
Back in 1987 when I was taking driver's education there were very few people who called it a parking brake. It was called an emergency brake. In most emergencies if you brakes go out you won't HAVE an emergency brake to bring the car to a stop since they are tied to the regular system. I have witnessed an accident where someone saw the light turn green but the person in front of them didn't, but the air bags went off when basically the front vehicle got pushed up on the median. It freaked out the guy's kids. And even though I was not asked for a witness statement I not only saw but heard everything. Including the guy in front yelling something about wishing he had an emergency brake on the car when he saw in his rear mirror what the guy in back of him was about to do.
Hey Scotti, why do these new vehicles have a headlamp time delay like a whole bunch of Chrysler vehicles have had over the years. The Caravans are one. I've had these thru the years and the headlights will turn off if you leave them on. Everything is supposed to be high tech, so why can they not do this anymore. Totally stupid!!
I just bought a used 2009 Toyota Scion. It was taken care of, & only had 2 owners. How many miles can a Scion get if well taken care of? I've heard 300,000 miles. Is that true? 🤔
Ford's automatic electronic parking brake is terribly bad when in cold weather due to the fact the battery is never charged at the correct voltage, 14.8v was the old standard due to cold weather depleting the battery by up to 5%... So... If you only charge a battery at 12.1v, when it gets cold, it becomes to low to function the automatic brake... It's very stupid idea, often when on an incline it doesn't register the incline and as such doesn't work... 🤦
It’s a hell of a lot easier to do a “at speed 180”, w/a mechanical E-brake. Am I wrong here Scott? What? Oh, yeah, seems like someone said it was illegal. Wonder why?

I have a 2016 Mazda 3 madenin Mexico. It has 177700 miles on it and still running great!
Is Scotty’s middle name Toyota or Lexus?
Scotty, Glad to see snow in Tennessee. Take care a stay safe.
1974 Cadillac Sedan DeVille 472 cu inch - 10 mpg. 2023 Mazda Whatever - 22 mpg. How much progress have we made?
I have the same car with 88k miles. Make sure you replace the air filter to keep the engine cool and efficient.
I took my wife Cx5 outside it was a blast😁 very solid vehicle and awd with turbo and the torque is powerful and fun after that i never got to drive it again i must had too much fun with it😂
Lots of the non turbo motors 2.5 have CYLINDER DEACTIVATION would like some input and coverage on those
2023 carbon edition. Lovely Red seats and lots of extras! Nice riding cars. And NO CVT!!!
I have a 2003 Toyota Prius 335,000 miles. It has an automatic shut-off for the headlights if you leave them on
2016 Mazda 3 grand touring and nothing has gone wrong with it. The battery is $380 to replace.
Back in 2013 we purchased a Forester. Still have it with 140K miles on it. Been one of the best cars we have ever had.
That was when they had to use the junk Ford components. That’s when they had bad reliability. They have some of the best engineering
@@joshuacurran7405Lies.
I haven't heard of any problem concerning their current 6 speeds. It's probably from the pre-2013 era.
@@lajya01 I have. The transmission in my uncle's 2017 CX-5 failed after just 70K miles. Unacceptable.
In New Zealand, we never got the sticky dash fix. I hate driving around in an is350 with the melting interior.
They make diesel?

Scotty never sleeps, Scotty never stops, Scotty never quits, Scotty only grows and evolves to the next level of being a Scotty-Chanic.
@3:18 dude in BACKGROUND Looks like the guys that walk around in my neighborhood.
I'm lucky enough not to have to worry about gas mileage, but thanks for the tips Scotty 👍. I also agree that CVTs just don't feel right
to me, the CVT on the Toyota Corolla I rented wasn't terrible, but not great.
Did you put the beauty cover back on before the test drive?
Hey Scotty, just so you know, my daughter's 2014 Mazda 3 is made in Mexico, and we have never had a lick of trouble with it. It has 200 000 on the clock, and still starts and drives like new. So, maybe you need to ask other owners what they think.
I have a 2003 Escape 2.0 liter 4 cylinder stick shift. Engine made by MAZDA!!!
27MPG!!!
Man I bet it would be such a fun time to go for a ride with Scotty. Thanks for all the great videos 😊
I used to drive a Ford explorer V6 engine 28 years ago but it was blew up head gasket just 90,000 + miles. Maybe that is why not a whole lot of people driving domestic car any more
Scotty thanks for the info on the Subaru
Hi Scottie! What can say about these recalls from a Toyota worldwide?
@@maj8301Evidence, please.
I have a civic Si coupe from 2017 with a turbo. I get 8-9 MPGs over factory estimates city and highway if I don’t slam the gas.
I work for Toyota in Jackson TN. We can’t cast the engines fast enough!
Hi Scotty. In that Subaru hand brake lever points straight up in the sky
I like the front look on the Lexus. G , I agree with Scotty on that.
The only way I can allow headlights to run down the battery is to shut the car off and then switch the headlights on manually and walk away.
the escape is my first car, first ford, and I can confidently say its the last. Nothing like snow melting into your headliner 💀
I have a 2009 Toyota Camry with that SAME STICKY DASH! Have you heard if Toyota is offering free replacement of THEIR sticky dashes??
I like Mazda’s new straight 6.
My daughter 2014 Ford Escape had the water leak issue. 10 body shops, and nobody had any interest in fixing it.
I've had the steering censor issue with my car since I bought it. I haven't had any problem with it, though.
Mazda, subaru, lexus....because they're produced in Japan.....saved you 30 min
nah i wanna watch scotty
There's a cardinal or two having a conversation in the back/ foreground ❤❤❤
In 2016 I bought a 2013’ Toyota Tacoma, 4x4, 4-dr, at, SR-V, sliding window, has skid plate under engine but NOT a TRD. In 20’ Toyota sent me an offer of $28k. I had 87k on it then. Turned em’ down.
I have 2023 Mazda CX-90, it is 3.3 L, Turbo inline 6. It can go 34 MPG.
My 2023 Mazda, CX 30 turbo was made in Mexico thus far not one issue
Had it as a loaners from a Ford dealer you can't figure out the controls and the transmission is quirky. My 2008 Ford Taurus X has better drivable.
Production of a manual transmission makes no specific pollution. A main advantage in compare the EV batteries. And it will go forever without any major cost.
I just bought an 06 Camry it has a 2.4 letter engine about a month ago very reliable I bought it for 5,900 for it l had a Ford 500 I had problems with everything went wrong with one thing after another every 3 months but the engine transmission was fine everything goes on on our car my wife axle beam snapped in half repair what's too expensive so I got a Camry
that Lexus is a damn steal
I’ll stick with my 2023 venza hybrid, 40mpg around town, all wheel drive and ECVT all gear transmission shifts smooth as silk, made in Japan.
Didn't the CX5 have a crankshaft issue at one time?
Scotty you should start a competition “Beauty cover toss”.
Sorry bud but cars assembled in the US plants are not that great either. Maybe better than the ones assembled in Mexico, but not by much.
…which is exactly what Scotty said. 🙄
I say no on Subaru's because they don't have a temperature gauge. And they don't have gaskets so that's a definite no for me
I have a 2023 cx 5 non Turbo I love it. Just took it in for 2nd service at10000 miles and no problems.
10000 miles 😂 car is a baby...ours at 177k miles it's been rock solid with regular care.
@@markg999good to know .I just bought the premium plus the end of December.
I just bought a used 2009 Toyota Scion.
It was taken care of, & only had 2 owners.
How many miles can a Scion get if well taken care of?
I've heard 300,000 miles.
Is that true? 🤔
The only problem I have found on my Mazda is that the paint is thin and gets a lot of hood paint chips
Just bought the CX 5 premium plus and no turbo. Fit and finish is much nicer than my Sienna. Super nice car.
what is the difference in longevity between getting one with a turbo vs non turbo?
Scotty. You never put it in Sport mode :( I have one and the sport mode makes it like 15% quicker I'd say.
I have a 22 cx5 non turbo, no issue
Ford's automatic electronic parking brake is terribly bad when in cold weather due to the fact the battery is never charged at the correct voltage, 14.8v was the old standard due to cold weather depleting the battery by up to 5%... So... If you only charge a battery at 12.1v, when it gets cold, it becomes to low to function the automatic brake... It's very stupid idea, often when on an incline it doesn't register the incline and as such doesn't work... 🤦
Had this happened to my 2013 Honda Civic lx. I was locked out when the battery died. Ridiculous
These engines are notorious for having cracked cylinder heads at the turbo point.
It’s a hell of a lot easier to do a “at speed 180”, w/a mechanical E-brake. Am I wrong here Scott? What? Oh, yeah, seems like someone said it was illegal. Wonder why?
