Kiedis so underrated. he has something in his voice that you just can't get out of your head in their grates hits. Specially californication and under the bridge. Great video btw..
I think the main criticisms of Kiedis have to do with his range and his pitch. He definitely sings in a limited range and his intonation isn't the best (which is particularly apparent on their live recordings). That said, he has the most important qualities a singer can have: personality and charisma. John Frusciante is probably a "technically" better singer, but his voice has less character, in my opinion. Not sure the band would have gone anywhere without Kiedis.
Awesome stuff Chris. I think anthony keidis is a master of alliteration, he has a hip hop delivery and totally rhythmic to compliment john, flea and chad. Love the peppers.

Kiedis' voice and style are perfect for the Peppers and they would not be the same at all with someone else. The "lack of melody" makes more room for the instrumental melodies of Flea & Frusciante which make RHCP really different compared to any other bands.
If I had to guess, one of the reasons they did the fade out trick, was because the signal to noise ratio on the recording is so low. When he ends the line he is very quiet, to the point where the noise would be similar volume, so I am guessing they did that to combat the noise.

love anthony and rhcp ❤️
I’ve always loved the Chilis precisely because they don’t stick to conventional rules. Let’s be honest, a by-the-book, more technical singer wouldn’t really work over their complex layers of music. Kedis began as a frontman more than a singer and that’s exactly the free styling vibe that works with their sound. There’s a million technically better boring singers who can hit notes perfectly and consistently, but just don’t have the same soul.
You have to do a breakdown of "Brendan's Death Song", the song with the best Kiedis' voice
Hes got great voice control.
You should have listened to the demo of this song. It shows how much the melody changed.
Love these videos man, I know you've already done a lot of videos featuring Corey Taylor but I'd love to see a breakdown of "Through Glass" by Stone Sour. I think there's a lot of cool things you could highlight in it
