So... ALL MOBIANS WERE ANIMALS , MUTATED BY GENE BOMB FROM ALIENS AND THISE ANIMALS GETTING A LOT OF HUMAN DNA MUTATED INTO ANTROPOMORPHIC CREATURES, MOBIANS. And the all Sonic Heroes and Mobians are in that Bunch , now when the war is over coexisting with the newcreated species/race Mobians which goes in Sonic X . Am I correctly understood that.
Yeah, more or less. Also, from what I remember, the bombs destroyed all life on Earth, including plants, so theoretically, there could have been some plant-animal or plant-human Mobians... However, this happened thousands of years before the events of the comics, so there is a possibility that they just went extinct at some point and that's why we never saw them. Maybe their reproduction systems didn't work or smth. Nah, it would make too much sense lore wise. In reality, the authors may have just not thought about that
Mobius and anything from Archie doesn't exist, that's all americanized bullshit. It was always Earth, an Earth with many islands where the animal people live, and the continents where mostly humans live. Sonic was created in Japan, so the Japanese continuity is the true continuity. America threw away everything Yuji Naka and Iizuka gave them in terms of Sonic's real origin. They not only messed with his design, but gave him Bart Simpson's personality.
@@inkchariot6147 Though to be specific Sonic's Earth isn't our Earth, just an Earth with anthropomorphic animals, different nations (the United Federation instead of the United States) and a far better space program. But yes Mobius is completely irrelevant to canon.
I always liked the Satam Robotnik as well as the Underground one because he is evil without any redeeming quailties and presented as a cold caluating villian, while Sonic X and the games are presenting him more or less a rival to Sonic than a threat to the whole planet
90s Robotnik was fantastic, in (almost) any version! The game over laugh was so creepy, and many of the books had him as competent + evil + scary. You know.... a VILLAIN!!!
Ironically, Jim Carry seems far better in a villain role than a protagonist role. His Dr. Robotnic was absolutely fantastic! He just does eccentric mad scientist so well. I especially liked his transformation at the end. He really managed to sell the idea that Robotnic had seriously gone crazy in his isolation with that whole weird rock throwing scene.
Jim Carrey took allot if his inspiration for the character from Jim Cummings Robotnik, also known as the SatAm Robotnik. You can hear it in how he talks, punctuates his statements, and what he says. "Hello Hedgehog, Miss Me?" from the second movie is as direct a reference to SatAm as one can get and Lt. Stone is obviously modeled after early Snively. Much like his orb robots being a direct reference to the surveillance drones in SatAm. The vehicle he uses at the end of the first movie is modeled after the ship he arrives in during the pilot of SatAm with hints of the Shriek Bot. Sonic in the movies even jokes about an uncle Chuck.
Huh, interesting. I thought Jim Carrey was terrible in the role. Felt like he was over-acting the entire movie, attempting to emulate his 90s characters without thinking about what made them unique or enjoyable to watch.
@@afatchimp I don't think you watched all that many Sonic cartoons as a kid then. Yes, his Robotnik was a bit different in character, but the ridiculous over-acting really does fit right in with the theme of those old 90s cartoons.
It is pretty eggcellent, but so is Satam. And there was that novel where he built a haunted house and packed it fell of real vampires, werewolves, etc that had sooo many egg puns....
It’s a very good thing I’m not the only person who stands by the fact that Flynn is a much better writer if Sonic comics than Penders ever will be by assassinating the characters and letting cringy illustrators (re: Jon H. Gray) run amok.
If only we had eggman clone himself in a tv series and his clones were the other eggman. A stupid one from aosth, a heartless one from satam, a simple one from the classic games and a less confident one from sonic boom. All of them working off each other for the episode.
This is similar, but not quite, what happened in the aftermath of Sonic #75 Multiple versions of Eobotnik bodies were available for Robo-Robotnik to download himself into, and they all looked different
11:08 Almost every reviewer keeps forgetting that the episode "Best Hedgehog" LITERALLY explains what the reason was for why he became a villain. Jealousy after being rejected by his love interest Lucinda. I'm very glad at 11:26 , someone like TheMentok FINALLY gets it!
One thing to point out on Eggman/Ivo Robotnik's name is that the name IVO is backwards of OVI wich is a term of Egg, so the essence of the character's original name is still there. The Ivo Robotnik origin and creation of Sonic story version apparently inspired the Shadow The Hedgehog and Gerald Robotnik origin story.
@@Dr.Mliekothey didn't, actually! Although the reference is hella obscure and you have to be a real geek to figure this one out, but it's still there. Y'see, Julian is the name of John Lennon's son, and The Beatles wrote the song "I am the Walrus", that has a line "I am the eggman" in it. Our good doctor's full name is thus Julian Ivo Robotnik (the "Ivo" part became his middle name, AFAIK) so it has two subtle references to eggs now!
Eggman full and canon name is Dr. Ivo Eggman Robotnik. They reason why robotnik is a last name. Is because 1.) Embraced the name. Heck he liked the name in Sonic 2 you can see it in wing fortress zone. And 2.) And he made robotnik his last name just like Maria robotnik and gerald robotnik.
I like the Sonic The Comic origin as it presents a good reason on why Sonic just won’t put him down due to him having been his best friend as Ovi Kintobor, feeling some hidden guilt over the whole thing and it’s got a nice symmetrical element to it where they both created each other into the characters we know them together. Neither can exist without one of the other.
Awesome video man! My favorite is definitely the original one from the saga days. But all these other versions are very interesting too. Looking forward to what the live action film has to bring as well
@@TheMentok you forgot one origin story of eggman, the one of the Sonic the comic. More specifically the Sonic comic that gave birth, to Fleetway Super Sonic.
I miss Robotnik being his main moniker. Dr. Robotnik is a name that I feel makes for a much more enticing and threatening villian. I will say combining the two names is a good way about it though. I just wish he could have stayed intimidating and not become a joke.
What do you mean "Stayed" intimidating? In the games he had a goofy grin on his face whenever he thought he had sonic cornered and sonic once took him out with a rock. Game Robotnik was always a mix of silly and serious, and that's never really changed, he's still evolving his schemes.
@@Fanatic_Forememhe is serious and intimidating in his original game appearances, with the fact that he is comically round and always grinning only adding to the unease of his sudden appearances. The music is always militaristic or urgent in tone, and his bases usually dark and foreboding. Eggman hasn’t really felt that intimidating since Sonic Colours onward. An example of the tone that the games set is seen at 7:51 in this video. Comical yet intimidating.
@@Tarquin23 Are you talking about the American soundtrack in CD? Cause if so that's a bad chunk of evidence considering that's the game that plays eggman as the MOST silly, to the point that sonic beat him with a rock. His robots are cute cartoon critters painted bright colors, half his boss fights have him doing goofy faces and end with him running away in fear. He has an eerieness to him when you fail, but he STILL has THAT. Just look at any time a villain trys to one up him, THAT'S where it comes up.
@@Tarquin23 i'm not rewatching the video for context. I'm not interested in changing your mind and you aren't convincing the guy who's the go to sonic lore expert in his friend group that he's wrong about his favorite sonic villian.
Archie also had the Super Genesis Wave which reset the continuity, that resets Eggman's backstory to be closer to SatAM with stronger influence from the games.
Which lines up considering all the original badniks (and later E series) are powered by animals. Imagine how suped up a badnik would be powered by sonic? We kinda see that in early archie when Sonic is transformed into a Mecha Sonic, and is quite a force to be reckoned with, requiring Knuckles to be roboticized to stop him (with an inhibitor to prevent him from losing his free will). Yeah year late just figured to share.
It’s worth mentioning that Eggman was originally designed to be the hero in an entirely different launch title game that got scrapped. When they were working on sonic they decided to reuse the character design but make him into the villain.
Here's how I imagine the origins of Mobius. So, it's explained why Mobius has anthromorphic animals. It's because the Ancients used their powers to create Mobians to live among the humans of Mobius. But the two sides didn't get along and the Mobians had 3 islands. The Hedgehogs had Westside Island, the Acorns had South Island, and the Echidnas had Angel Island. The 3 islands had a plan to conquer the human territories, so the Echidnas teamed up with the Chao to recreate the power of the original Chaos Emeralds with Chao Technology and ancient Echidna magic to create the Master Emerald. A Emerald that can give anyone ultimate power and become gods. As they went to war with the humans, the 3 Islands conquered the human territory but the leader, Chaos saw what they were using the power for and was threatened. So, Chaos took back the Master Emerald and the 3 islands attacked him and his Chao to steal it back. But the daughter of the chief, Tikal, stopped the violence and used the forbidden power to defeat everyone and secure her and Chaos in the Emerald. As most of the Echidnas were killed with some survivors escaping to start better lives for their families, the Hedgehogs and Acorns made peace with the Humans and promised to make sure nobody would use the power of the Master Emerald ever again. And the rings would have been created by Hedgehogs and Acorns, in order to harness the power of the Master Emerald and gives it's power to others who uses the Power Rings, giving them invincibility, speed, power, and strength. What does anyone think of this idea? Also, great video. I've always Robotnik a.k.a Eggman being a mixture of the Satam version and the game version. Being funny and ridiculous but also threatening and evil. 😉👍
Just as a note the archie comics were hard rebooted at issue 252. The timeline is all new but with redesigned freedom fighters and changed up, simplified, more game friendly plot elements of the old archie timeline, and fits more nicely with the games continuity (retelling Unleashed at that point). The Eggman in that timeline is more or less the same as video game eggman but has more territory and mobian commanders known as egg bosses.
Stuff after Sonic Adventure barely counts. After the reboot, nothing counts at all. The Ken Lenders version is the true timeline. Everything else is an illusion, or a retcon
I enjoy eggman when He's funny but fucking terrifying His enemy is a hedgehog that breaks the laws of physics. He has a knack to show off, theatrics, an ego as big as his brain A mad scientist and engineer who was neglected from his cousin dieing on some space colony while he wanted to be known for his creations. A Villain you laugh at/with while knowing he is a dangerous man who doesn't stop
the dr. robotnik from' the 1993 adventures of sonic the hedgehog ' is the best..he's funny, looks demented, and for some reason the designer felt his ' ass' should of been revealing , guy is literally a giant egg
Something I never see anyone mention: in a single episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (I forget which one), Tails _does_ actually call Robotnik "Eggman".
Great video! Thanks for catching me up on all the Robotnik (Eggman) history I missed over the years. The Sat AM Sonic's Robotnik was amazing. I watched it every Saturday when it aired. I was 14 or 15 at the time, but I loved the video games on Genesis and enjoyed the darker nature of this animated series. I was crushed when it didn't get picked up for another season...but at least I own this series on DVD. Now that I'm thinking of it, I think I'll go watch it again tonight.
I think all the weird stuff happened at the very beginning when they based most of the lore on the SatAM cartoon but I can see how they tightened things up later. I'm starting to get a much better understanding of that world the more I do these videos.
@@TheMentok yeah totally early Sonic lore didn't really figured itself out yet especially on the American side tbh the satam characters don't fit well with the sonic aesthetic maybe I just like sonic to have a Japanese influence you know.
@@meat1939 The other Satam characters I agree don't fit in the main series but one thing I will give the American side of Sonic that beats the Japanese side by a long shot was that Robotnik was a legitimate threat
Your quick cover of the sonic the comic story was different to the original. After testing how fast sonic can run they decide to have lunch but all Kintobor has In his fridge is a rotten egg. He trips on a cable whilst carrying the egg and breaks the rocc causing the chaos emeralds to interact with the rotten egg and turning him into Robotnik.
The origins of his overall aesthetic design may stem back to a 1980 Tatsunoko animated series called "Muteking." The antagonists, an alien group of octopus-like beings named the Kurodako Brothers can morph into human form to blend in with the population. When they do, they bear an uncanny resemblance to Eggman. (Except for Takomi who morphs into a young blonde woman).
The Archie comics aren't as confusing as people like to make them sound there actually really good especially the Ian Flynn issues. I really enjoyed them
The more I do these videos, the more I’m appreciating the Archie comics. And while I prefer Ian Flynn being able to start from scratch in the IDW, I have a huge appreciation for them creating this massive expanded universe in the Archie comics
@@TheMentok Yeah he did a good job of mixing the game stuff with Archie stuff which is what I loved. especially when they had to reboot I loved how he had the events of Sonic 1 be what inspired the Freedom Fighters it's a really cool way to mix the versions together
You forgot about the time they were in the Sonic the Hedgehog The Movie from the late 90s. I grew up watching that, the Sat cartoon, and reading the Archie comics of Sonic.
I remember there were some cool kids books in the 90s that touched on this topic. The one I remember most clearly posited that Robotnik had been a kindly scientist, and Sonic some sort of lab assistant. Robotnik (Kintobor?) was doing experiments on the Rings! One day he gave Sonic a special pair of shoes he'd made (yes, THE shoes!), and Sonic uses them to test out his speed without burning through the soles, but an accident with his speed interferes with the Doctor's experiment. The power of the rings goes haywire, and the resulting explosion transforms thin, kindly (Kintobor?) into the rotund Robotnik we love & hate! (Hey, it was a kids book in the 90s. Don't judge!) I always liked the idea of him experimenting with the rings, but not so much him and Sonic knowing each other before he turns evil. As a side note, the Archie comics introduced the idea of a "mirror" universe where everyone was opposite of their usual selves. That universe's Robitnik was a tall, thin, kind man named Kintobor who made robots whose job it was to clean up trash and sweep the streets clean! Love that so much! 😁
My favourite version of Doctor Robotnik is the version who pissed on the moon, after Shadow the Hedgehog slept with his wife... but you didn't list that version... so going with uh... I might need some time to choose a favourite
Dr.Robotnick aka Egg Man is one of my all time favorite Video Game Villian s I'm glad that they made one of my favorite Comedian/Actor Jim Carry play him in the Movies.
I also side with sonic underground and satAM as best robotnick's, he was a ACTUAL THREAT and has already WON. plus the VA's for them was REALLY convincing
My absolute favorite origin for Ovi Eggman was done in the 1990 Virgin Comics 16 page comic where he was a skinny Doctor called Kintobor. The UK comics contributed that origin as well. To me, even after all these years I personally consider that his true origin (until Sega says otherwise).
2:52 In Sonic Frontiers there's an eggmemo that has Robotnick expressing frustration that Maria got all the attention. So we can now confirm they knew each other.
1:19 Nah, I don't think people are really debating it given that "Eggman" is a nickname Sonic gave Ivo and he basically (over)embraced it ever since then.
The only thing I don't understand is why you avoid Archie Comics and treat them like they are weird and complicated. I read them all until around chapter 170, when the Sonic/Megaman crossover takes place, cause I don't treat it as canon. Other than that, I feel like Archie Comics are great and present a cool new perspective on Sonic Universe.
@@dolnyslazak4721 The more I cover them, the more I realize how much I DON'T know about them. Trust me, I'm not hating on them. It's just a lot of material to sift through but with each origin videos I'm becoming more familiar with that Sonic Universe and a lot of it is well-thought out. So I agree with you
@@TheMentok I mean, yeah, I get it. They're like a couple hundred of issues if you count spin-offs, but I would really like to see you covering them more. They have some great stories in them, and I feel like you should give them a chance 😉
Regarding SatAM Robotnik, the lead writer and original showrunner, Len Carlson, drew heavily from David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of Dune (apparently) for a lot of the background elements of Robotropolis - such as the building designs and the flying vehicles. Robotnik's visual design is based heavily upon Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, the main villain of the original series. The suit that Robotnik wears is almost analogous to the flying mobility suit that the Baron wears due to his hyper-obesity. This connection is more readily visible when referenced against the 2000 Sci-Fi adaptation of Dune, especially in regards to similarities between Robotnik's and the Baron's demeanor towards the planets they rule and those who fight against their rule.
As a kid I had an early reader chapter book loosely based on SATAM Sonic where Julian Robotnik was an orphan raised by Uncle Chuck alongside Sonic. He was always a nasty kid and frequently stolenthings from Chuck's workshop to build his robots. One day Robotnik stole some parts from a tractor which resulted in Chick losing control of it and almost ran Robotnik over. Initially Chuck thought itbwas his own fault but one of Robotnik's robots ratted him out, and the ensuing argument caused Robotnik to run away
Sounds more like it was based on an early archie sonic story. Or the archie story was based on it, either way it can't have been based on SatAM since that story appeared in Archie far too early. SatAM would have only just started airing.
I remember reading that in the early stages of production for Sonic the hedgehog 4 for the Sega Genesis Mega drive, the game was going to take place on Robotniks home world because he was an alien to Sonic’s world. It made sense to me since he was never an inhabitant of sonics world. only animals existed in the in game stories of the games from Sonic the hedgehog from 1-3.
@@burner555 the sequel never came to be because Sega was moving into Saturn territory after the 32X debacle which meant resources were being poured into What would’ve been Sonic X-Treme. Be that as it may they did discuss concepts for what would’ve been a continuation of the story. It never went anywhere tho as Sega abandoned any notion of moving forward with it
My personal head cannon is that Satams version of Robotnik is what Eggman would look like/become had he ever won his battles with sonic and ruled the world for many years becoming increasingly overweight and ruthless like any warlord king would. Basically Eggman would be Satam Robotnik in a Darkfuture
At the end of Sonic The Comic it's Robotnik sick of losing to Sonic even as a god decided to stop trying to conquer Mobius again and to try and kill everyone too.
Eggman most likely never met Gerald or Maria, considering that they were both pretty much living in space. Heck he didn't even knew the Ark itself existed until he discovered his grandfather's dairy.
Basically dr.ivo was in our present time and then shit happened to start this scifi journey over thousands of years. He is literally older then dirt and jo supprose on the craziness.
okay i might be just remembering wrong here, but i remember in one of the comic books (idk which, it was a while ago) it showed Robitnik created different bodies to use, one of which being what became known as dr eggman. i could be wrong, if anyone knows anything abt it pls tell me
You left out how sonic and tails faced off against egg man and snively in a death battle to see who would be superior: flesh and bone or metal. Sonic and tails won the battle causing egg man to become fully flesh and blood losing the ability to roboticize others with a touch
This became way to big and before anyone ask, this I used AI to make this idea makes a bit more sense bur the idea on Eggman back story and trying to compare something based on what we have on the lore of Eggman, I think I may have a hint of an idea: Considering the debate between the "two worlds" theory and the "mixed world" theory within the Sonic fandom, it's clear that the interpretation of Eggman's actions and the settings of the Sonic games can vary widely among fans. The "two worlds" theory posits that the games take place across two separate realms-one inhabited by humans (Earth) and another by anthropomorphic animals (Sonic's world)-with characters occasionally traveling between them. The "mixed world" theory, on the other hand, suggests that all events occur on a single Earth, albeit one that differs significantly from our own, populated by both humans and animal characters coexisting. Given this context, the notion of Eggman "escaping to Sonic's world" might not align perfectly with either theory, as both interpretations complicate the idea of distinct worlds. Instead, Eggman's actions could be viewed through the lens of his evolving strategies and objectives within the constraints of the Sonic universe's established continuity. Eggman's activities, particularly in games like "Sonic Unleashed" and "Sonic Forces," suggest a shifting focus away from direct confrontations with G.U.N. towards more localized battles against Sonic and his allies. This shift could be interpreted as a tactical decision, allowing Eggman to operate with reduced scrutiny from G.U.N. while he concentrates on defeating Sonic. Such a strategy enables Eggman to pursue his goals more freely, leveraging the advanced technology and unique environments of Sonic's world to his advantage. Regarding the issue of casualties, it's plausible that Eggman views the harm caused by his machines as an unfortunate but acceptable consequence of his pursuit of power. While direct evidence of Eggman intentionally causing deaths is scarce, the collateral damage resulting from his aggressive tactics cannot be overlooked. In "Sonic Forces," for instance, the operation of the Death Egg and the deployment of Eggman's robots lead to widespread destruction and endangerment of civilians, indicating a willingness on Eggman's part to sacrifice innocent lives for his ambitions. In conclusion, Eggman's motivations and actions can be understood as part of a complex interplay between his personal ambitions, the geopolitical landscape of the Sonic universe, and his ongoing rivalry with Sonic. Whether operating within a "two worlds" or "mixed world" framework, Eggman's strategies reflect a calculated approach to achieving his goals, even if it means navigating the nuances of the Sonic universe's continuity and the moral implications of his actions. As Eggman navigates his late 50s to early 60s, the echoes of the Space Colony ARK incident still reverberate through his life, a haunting reminder of the path that led him to Sonic's world. This pivotal event, unfolding 45 to 50 years ago, wasn't merely a personal crisis; it was a clarion call to action against the creeping authoritarianism of G.U.N. Escaping to Sonic's world via a portal, Eggman found not just sanctuary but a battlefield-a realm where his ideals could flourish beyond the reach of G.U.N.'s iron fist. Yet, this new beginning was fraught with challenges. G.U.N.'s awareness of the Sonic world introduced a delicate balance of power. With a policy of cautious observation, G.U.N. lurked in the shadows, ever-watchful for any sign that might justify intervention. Eggman, acutely aware of this looming threat, understood that his actions in Sonic's world were not just about personal ambition-they were a strategic defense against a dystopian future. Thus, Eggman's relentless pursuit of power and the construction of his robotic army were not acts of mere villainy but calculated moves in a chess game against G.U.N. Each encounter with Sonic and his allies, each setback and victory, served as a testament to Eggman's unwavering resolve. He fought not for the sake of domination but to safeguard a world that offered him a glimpse of freedom, a utopia untainted by the oppressive regime he had fled. Eggman's journey, then, is a tale of survival and adaptation, a narrative woven with threads of ambition, fear, and a profound sense of duty. His actions, though often misguided and harmful, stem from a place of deep-seated conviction-a belief that the ends justify the means when the alternative is a world shackled by tyranny. In the grand tapestry of the Sonic universe, Eggman emerges not just as a villain but as a complex character, driven by a past that haunts him and a future he is desperate to shape. His story serves as a stark reminder of the thin line between heroism and villainy, and the intricate dance of power that defines our struggles against oppression. As we witness Eggman's schemes and confrontations, let us remember the layers beneath his exterior. Beyond the caricature of a mad scientist lies a man molded by adversity, fighting against the specter of a dystopian future. It is a perspective that adds depth to the narrative, inviting us to see Eggman not merely as an adversary, but as a character embroiled in a battle far greater than any single showdown with Sonic. In the annals of the Sonic universe, Eggman's journey stands as a cautionary tale-a stark reminder of how the quest for liberation can morph into a mirror image of oppression. Born into a world shadowed by G.U.N.'s authoritarian presence, Eggman's formative years lacked the guiding light of parental wisdom, a void that perhaps contributed to his radicalization. Similarly, the tragic tale of Gerald and Maria, intertwined with G.U.N.'s machinations, underscores the cyclical nature of vengeance and the corruption of noble intentions. Eggman, driven by anger and a desire to break free from the chains of G.U.N.'s control, ironically became the very thing he sought to oppose-a tyrant bent on reshaping the world in his image. His transformation from a disillusioned youth to a mad genius hell-bent on global domination is a testament to the corrupting influence of unchecked power and the blinding effect of rage. Without the tempering influence of family or a moral compass to guide him, Eggman's vision of a utopia free from G.U.N.'s grip warped into a dystopian nightmare. His relentless pursuit of power, once a beacon of hope against authoritarianism, devolved into a campaign of terror, mirroring the very oppression he vowed to eradicate. Thus, Eggman's story is not just one of villainy but of tragedy-a tale of a man who, in his zeal to liberate, became ensnared by the very forces he rebelled against. It serves as a reminder that the road to tyranny is paved with good intentions gone awry, and that the true battle lies not just in opposing external enemies but in confronting the darkness within ourselves. In the end, Eggman's legacy is a bitter irony-a mad genius who, in his quest to overthrow the oppressors, became the oppressor, a poignant symbol of the cycle of violence and the elusive nature of freedom. 🌍🛡️ Congrats ya little nerd ya did it, but please I do want to hear what ya have since this is only Theory that made sense in my mind. 😅
His Origin story is that Sega needed a new mascot for the western market and with Phantasy Team having developed a new game engine they chose to hold Contest. The final three characters are today known to be am Armadillo named Mighty, a fat man in stripped pajamas who would protect the land of dreams (think Kirby before Kirby) named Eggman, and Sonic the Hedgehog. After picking the one we all knew won they realized that they needed a villain and rather than hold another contest they decided to pick from the other two. After a bit of a redesign they stripped Eggman of his name and after creating a few sprites for proof of Concept they shipped the pitch demo for Sonic to Sega of Europe where aside from the demo level they also created Starlight Zone and Spring Yard zone. After getting green lit there they shipped it to Sega of America for final approval. Once Sega of America was done approving the game they were given an extremely tight deadline and needed to promote the game hard and fast. Since the villain arrived to them without a name they have him the name Robotnik and wrote a brief fiction of the game series back story so that it could be used with some consistency for advertisement purposes, this original back story is called the Sonic Bible. One year after Sonic the Hedgehog was successfully launched it was getting ready to be released in Japan. One of the translators was the man that made Eggman and he instantly recognized Robotnik as his character. Pissed off at the change he changed the name back and held a long standing grudge against the western teams for renaming him without knowing that the name was removed by his superiors in Japan who didn't bother correcting him because they were actively working to undermine the western divisions. Ironically Tails would share a similar story with his name with it ending in a splash screen inserted by his creator onto the Sonic 2 cartridge, Miles Prower begin an intentional pun on Sonics speed "Miles Per Hour". Anyway Sonic Bible was heavily modified by the American companies given license to run the promotional shows like DiC and Archie who changed origin stories to be much darker and even altered characters (Johnny Lightfoot becoming Bunnie Rabbot, Porker Lewis becoming Antoine, Sally becoming a Chipmunk AND a Princess, Sonic gaining an uncle, etc) however it was faithfully adapted into a comic by Fleetway in Europe. Starting in the mid 90s Sega of Japan having grown frustrated with the growing success of the American Branch despite the constant sabotage and deliberate set backs and road blocks put in their way decided to just outright shut them down at every step leading to no sonic games outside of a racer on the Saturn with Sega of Japan trying to push Knights to be the next mascot, though TBH Segata is more memorable and then forcing their version of the story onto the western audience with the Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure which was met with allot of "What the F"s in the west due to the forced and heavy handed changes in an effort to erase Sega of America's and Sega of Europes hand in the franchise up to that point. Needless to say it didn't work and people still prefer allot of the western story and characters over the ones Japan forced on everyone and since Sega of Japan has refused to back down on their anti rest of the world stance the company has suffered greatly. Just look at the flop that was Phantasy Star Online 2 after refusing to release it outside of Japan for over a decade and long after the rest of the world stopped asking for it.
@@TheMentok Yeah. Thematically, I would go for Knuckles first since you did the the first three introduced characters in the Sonic series. Knuckles is next.
An Overlander named Julian Kintobor, from the house of Ivo, betrayed his people during The Great War. He ran away, and found refuge with the Mobians, the nemeses of the Overlanders. His scientific and war knowledge seemed very valuable to the Mobians, as well as his knowledge of his own kind's nature. They appointed him War Lord, and gave him extreme powers. Before long, he exiled the King and the other military higher ups, and began Robotocizing Mobians. He eventually converted roughly half of the Mobians on Mobius. He was killed by his own invention during a battle with Sonic the Hedgehog. His nephew, Snively, had betrayed him and sabotaged the device. About 2 years later, another Eobotnik from an alternate dimension arrived. He downloaded every essence of the original into his being. He was, himself, Robotocizes. The Mobians destroyed his body, but he had dozens of replacements to download into. He started calling himself "Eggman" about this time. Sonic used this as an insult prior, and he "re-owned" it. Didn't watch the video. All from memory.
Also, I don't care what SEGA says, or any of the retcons. Always Mobius, never Earth. Overlanders and Humans are different, but related, species (the most notable difference is 8 fingers vs 10) Everything after Sonic Adventure barely counts, and is very much overwritten by anything established prior. Sonic's middle name is Maurice
That was not the comic that came with the original game though on the Sega Genesis. After I got the comic I found the series in Japanese when I was a kid. The comics had the original story in it and none of what was in this video was the original story. Just random mixed stories added later to be filler. The original story was Robotnik was a genius scientist that was working on a machine to help the animals become smarter. Sonic was his lab assistant with some modifications to make him smarter. Sonic when bringing Robotnik his lunch (hard boiled egg and coke) he accidentally spills it onto Robotnik's computer. Causing a massive explosion that mutated Robotnik with the egg and coke making his body shaped as an egg and the coke and computer mix made him more intelligent. He blames the deformity on sonic and attacks him. Swearing vengeance against Sonic he captures all the animals of the forest the destroy Sonic. The core story was focused on the story of dr.jekell and mr.hyde.
I prefer the most evil incarnations of him. Something just feels missing when portrayed as a selfish softy that just pretends like he'll do truly terrible things, but will cave the moment he'll actually succeed or somebody will get hurt.
Eggman is the most dangerous villain to be around with, always plotting to take over the world with his evil plan to control the world but sonic always get in his way, yes he hate sonic but somewhat overshadowed by so many Sonic's fame and popularity
So... ALL MOBIANS WERE ANIMALS , MUTATED BY GENE BOMB FROM ALIENS
AND THISE ANIMALS GETTING A LOT OF HUMAN DNA MUTATED INTO ANTROPOMORPHIC CREATURES, MOBIANS.
And the all Sonic Heroes and Mobians are
in that Bunch , now when the war is over coexisting with the newcreated species/race Mobians which goes in Sonic X .
Am I correctly understood that.
You’d be correct 🤣 Not sure about the Sonic X part but you’ve definitely summed it up nicely
@@TheMentok I really want the real origin of Blaze the cat.
@@inkchariot6147 Though to be specific Sonic's Earth isn't our Earth, just an Earth with anthropomorphic animals, different nations (the United Federation instead of the United States) and a far better space program.

I always liked the Satam Robotnik as well as the Underground one because he is evil without any redeeming quailties and presented as a cold caluating villian, while Sonic X and the games are presenting him more or less a rival to Sonic than a threat to the whole planet
Planet stability through not shooting the moon may indicate otherwise....

I agree! I think he totally NAILED it!
@@helpfulbitsandentertainment Yeah, me too!
Ian Flynn's Archie Eggman is the very best incarnation imo, balancing the Japanese and darker American interpretations brilliantly.
It is pretty eggcellent, but so is Satam. And there was that novel where he built a haunted house and packed it fell of real vampires, werewolves, etc that had sooo many egg puns....

11:01 Also, I'd also mention how there are some minor Yosemite Sam vibes and some major Wile E. Coyote vibes in this cartoon as well
These different origins of Eggman is really interesting
Making this made me excited to see if they can take the character further in future games
I know that
One thing to point out on Eggman/Ivo Robotnik's name is that the name IVO is backwards of OVI wich is a term of Egg, so the essence of the character's original name is still there.
The Ivo Robotnik origin and creation of Sonic story version apparently inspired the Shadow The Hedgehog and Gerald Robotnik origin story.
and then SatAM removed even that reference by changing his first name to Julian
@@Dr.Mlieko Yup, some cartoons show runners had really odd choices when the product was not really from the USA originally.
Whatever his origin, one thing is for certain...
He’s got the master plan!
No, this is not the case. Dr. Ivo Robotnik is is full name, and Eggman is a nickname or a title that he uses. This was confirmed in Sonic Adventure.

Also, this one explains why he had the tornado, of was Kintobor's air ship or as his frieend he learns from him and Crafts it

I hope Jim Carrey ups the ante this time around. Looking forward to their live-action vision as well :D
@@TheMentok you forgot one origin story of eggman, the one of the Sonic the comic. More specifically the Sonic comic that gave birth, to Fleetway Super Sonic.
I love Carrey's version of Robotnik fun but threatening.
Always loved hearing Eggman say, "Yosh," when petting the Chaos in their gardens.
Archie also had the Super Genesis Wave which reset the continuity, that resets Eggman's backstory to be closer to SatAM with stronger influence from the games.
Eggman being after Sonic himself for his powers was also mentioned in the Japanese manuals
"Or if he's even met his grandfather or Maria"
Now Sonic Frontiers has finally cleared that up.
2:31 I can’t look at that shot of him walking without thinking of “YOU DONE DID IT NOW!”
While complete fan fiction, MugiMikey’s Eggman Biography is a wonderful in depth video on a fictional Eggman backstory.
I'll always prefer the classic slapstick one. He played the piano while twerking...

Something I never see anyone mention: in a single episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (I forget which one), Tails _does_ actually call Robotnik "Eggman".
I used to watch the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon back in the day all the time. I even still have the VHS tapes of it too.

The Archie comics give me weird vibes especially the early one's i think the final years were a lot better Sonic Mega Drive was pretty sweet

Don't judge!)
I always liked the idea of him experimenting with the rings, but not so much him and Sonic knowing each other before he turns evil.
As a side note, the Archie comics introduced the idea of a "mirror" universe where everyone was opposite of their usual selves. That universe's Robitnik was a tall, thin, kind man named Kintobor who made robots whose job it was to clean up trash and sweep the streets clean! Love that so much! 😁
my favorite would probably be snapcube's take on him

Dr.Robotnick aka Egg Man is one of my all time favorite Video Game Villian s I'm glad that they made one of my favorite Comedian/Actor Jim Carry play him in the Movies.
Actually Adventure Of Sonic The Hedgehog did have a few Origins or background stories and was more heavily based of the video games.

My favorite Dr. Robotnic is Jim Carry's version. I'm still hoping in the third movie we'll have Metal Sonic.
In reality its his canon one, like, its made by the creator if I got it right
2:52 In Sonic Frontiers there's an eggmemo that has Robotnick expressing frustration that Maria got all the attention. So we can now confirm they knew each other.
1:19 Nah, I don't think people are really debating it given that "Eggman" is a nickname Sonic gave Ivo and he basically (over)embraced it ever since then.
12:19 i guess he did it, he stopped the prophecy

The only thing I don't understand is why you avoid Archie Comics and treat them like they are weird and complicated. Not canon.
What if the SonicX version of Shadow accidently used Chaos control on eggman by mistake?
Sonic movie 2 has Knuckles in it in case you didn't know.
My favorite version of the doctor? Hard choice between Boom and the Mr. Tinker ark

what about sonic boom
that is the time where sonic and eggman are close to retirement
I remember reading that in the early stages of production for Sonic the hedgehog 4 for the Sega Genesis Mega drive, the game was going to take place on Robotniks home world because he was an alien to Sonic’s world. It made sense to me since he was never an inhabitant of sonics world. only animals existed in the in game stories of the games from Sonic the hedgehog from 1-3.

@@burner555 the sequel never came to be because Sega was moving into Saturn territory after the 32X debacle which meant resources were being poured into What would’ve been Sonic X-Treme. My personal head cannon is that Satams version of Robotnik is what Eggman would look like/become had he ever won his battles with sonic and ruled the world for many years becoming increasingly overweight and ruthless like any warlord king would. Basically Eggman would be Satam Robotnik in a Darkfuture
Eggman just wants to conquer Earth out of ego and narcissism, Gerald wanted to kill everyone out of vengeance.

In the Sonic X comics Eggman himself says that Gerald is the reason he was on Sonics world.

Probably obvious but I'm going to say it anyway:
KINTOBOR IS ROBOTNIK SPELLED BACKWARDS
This became way to big and before anyone ask, this I used AI to make this idea makes a bit more sense bur the idea on Eggman back story and trying to compare something based on what we have on the lore of Eggman, I think I may have a hint of an idea:
Considering the debate between the "two worlds" theory and the "mixed world" theory within the Sonic fandom, it's clear that the interpretation of Eggman's actions and the settings of the Sonic games can vary widely among fans.
Congrats ya little nerd ya did it, but please I do want to hear what ya have since this is only Theory that made sense in my mind. 😅
Somehow Robotnik returned
the Chaos in Sonic X was based on Adventure 1 and the Shadow arc was based on Adventure 2.
Pingas
-Dr robotnic "eggman"
I think it would be interesting to convince all these different stories
Thanks for this video
No problem 🙂
i hope jim carry comes back for sonic 3
Holy shit this is the longest comment I’ve ever read
We need a Character origin of Shadow. I'm honestly confused about his exact origins.
Also, Sonic Underground is a childhood favourite.
Yes! Shadow is a fun one but surprisingly might be the most consistent. I’m torn between doing a video for him or Knuckles next
@@TheMentok if you can’t decide witch to do first make a poll
@@chasethemaster3440 agree on that poll
@@TheMentok Yeah. Thematically, I would go for Knuckles first since you did the the first three introduced characters in the Sonic series. Knuckles is next.
@@TheMentok I elect you should do Amy Rose next. She's unique in that her first appearance isn't a game.
archie eggman remind me of dr doom
I like the SatAM/Sonic Underground one the best.
Overlanders and Humans are different, but related, species (the most notable difference is 8 fingers vs 10)
Everything after Sonic Adventure barely counts, and is very much overwritten by anything established prior.
Sonic's middle name is Maurice
Boom Eggman looks like he could throw the Death Egg into orbit
At the end of Sonic Generation Eggman said he was once a teacher
I prefer the most evil incarnations of him. Something just feels missing when portrayed as a selfish softy that just pretends like he'll do truly terrible things, but will cave the moment he'll actually succeed or somebody will get hurt.
I dare you a true history of sonic next
A Christmas gift was uploaded today on the channel from me ;)
Eggman is the most dangerous villain to be around with, always plotting to take over the world with his evil plan to control the world but sonic always get in his way, yes he hate sonic but somewhat overshadowed by so many Sonic's fame and popularity
