How to Install a Smoke or Carbon Monoxide Detector

Most homes we inspect do have smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors but most of the time they are expired. Smoke detectors in general are designed for 10 years and include a date on the side to show when it should be replaced. If you have any gas burning appliances such as a gas stove, gas furnace, gas water heater, or gas fireplace, it is extremely important to have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. There are thousands of death each years in Canada and the US due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Take the time to see if your smoke or carbon monoxide are expired and test them to see if they are working properly.
