  • Part of our home inspections is to evaluate the drainage system around the house. The perimeter drains are designed to remove the rain water away from the foundation. There are many different types of drains and in this video I will give you a short history of perimeter drains. Also know as weeping tiles, drain tiles, storm drains, foundation drains, and French drains. It is extremely important to have them inspected as part of a real estate transaction or for homeowners to have them inspected every few years.

Good info. I would like to see how you cover the french perimeter drain (gravel, dirt, fabric?) and finish the whole job. Why does the water end up in a sump rather then being drained to daylight?

Sorry I didn't see your message. They use a metal strap that is shut in the concrete

How come you let the window wells dump water into the drainpipe in the foundation?
Probably going to get dirt into bottom line.

Hi, drains in window wells are just there in case. The water normally drains down but if it didn't, the drain is there to prevent the water from going through the window.

the end of the corrugated tube that runs up through the gravel that you see at the bottom of the window wells is covered with a mesh then covered with more gravel to help protect against uv deterioration and mechanical damage. Some dirt will always get into the perimeter drain system, think of all the debris that gets stuck in gutters, a percentage of that still finds its way into the downspout and then the weeping tie. They can handle some dirt.

the corrigated pipe is still extensively used due to cost, so you are wrong, it is still used today. PVC is superior and preferred, but good luck putting it in these days without absorbing a huge price difference.

I know areas that are still using it like Kelowna but we are in the Vancouver lower mainland and it's is no longer used for storm or perimeter drain. These videos are for our local clients, it doesn't represent what's happening in Bagdad or anywhere else around the world.
