Some explanations of the MyHouse map: The eye switches serve as the trinkets you collect in the original map, and they open up more and more of the secret tunnel that leads to the dark road. There's no lower section of the house, because you can't do that in Doom. Sandy famously did the same thing in his Suburbs house, where the stairs leading to the second floor just stop halfway through. This means there's no daycare and going downstairs immediately burns down the house. You didn't miss out on anything, don't worry. The house with the vines you kept calling the "burnt house" was actually the big version of the gray house. All enemies turn into bigger ones, so the Pinky becomes a Baron, the Lost Soul a Pain Elemental, and the zombies become Revenants. Burning down the house will also lock you out of getting to the gas station (and the bathhouse), which is what that FIREBLU texture was there for. I'm insanely glad that you didn't do it right away, which a lot of people do. The BFG with the dead marine at the gas station is a reference to the gravestone ending and unlocks the secret exit. The implication is that it's you who died there, much like Veddge was dead the whole time. The name "Homecoming" is also meant to imply that Doomguy is coming home to HIS house, which has been twisted by the demons into a nightmare, just to torture him. Also, something you haven't really paid attention to and which I absolutely urge you to go back and take a look at: the Soulsphere appears AND disappears if you enter and leave the house. This is an effect I used in another map that was also a reference to MyHouse.WAD and I'm really proud of it. I'm really glad you enjoyed the map. This was one of the main reasons I wanted you to play this WAD, because I knew how familiar you are with the original. This was actually something I started working on long before even coming up with the idea for this project, which is why it feels a bit out of place. But how could I not include it, and how could I not put it in the only possible map slot where "Running from Evil" plays? 34:24 I talked about the Wolfenstein textures in Doom 2 in some of my videos. They were all taken from the Jaguar port, except for one that they made up just for Doom 2 (since it didn't exist in the console versions of Wolfenstein). The two Wolfenstein levels are direct ports of E3L1 and E3L9. The Spider-Mastermind at the end is meant to represent Mr. Mustache, hence the "unfinished business". And yes, you CAN kill the ghosts, but they have a ton of health, like in the original. They're also DeHacked Keens, you got that right. I think I've run through MyHouse so many times that the correct sequence is just burned into my unconscious mind. I didn't even really think about it, I just kind of automatically went the right way! On the one hand, I think that speaks to both the quality of the original map and the accuracy of this tribute to it, but on the other hand it did cause me to speed through it a bit too fast to fully appreciate some of the things you did here. The Soulsphere especially is a really cool trick! It's a very memorable part of the original as the moment when things start to get strange so I'm glad you were able to replicate it, and I regret that dozens of runs through the house have desensitized me to it so much that I didn't even look twice at this time. Oh, how embarrassing, it was actually *your* video I was thinking of with the Wolfenstein texture trivia. Oops! RUclips must have slapped you pretty hard for that comment, I had to dig pretty deep to find this one. Hopefully it appears publicly now?
Modern day wells are just concrete tubes that usually stick up about two feet and are about 3 feet in diameter. So you can climb down and work on the pump. I had well water in a house growing up. My brother almost ran out of oxygen and suffocatted as he was coming up a fire escape chain ladder we use to climb down it. Hilariously bad idea. They are hard to climb even when your yoked from construction work your whole life. Septic tank did'nt stick up like the well. Ours was like a miniture sewer cap.
RE Trans allegory: I still think it was at least somewhat intentional. The symbolism in the bathroom, especially with the blood demons, is really on the nose. The message you get with the pills though just says that things are better. Those pills could be anything, but likely anti-depressants. Seeing a doctor about gender dysphoria will often come with "oh yeah you totally have GAD and depression and a bunch of other stuff, here's some SSRIs" THE SINKS FILL! And yeah the blue key map design was intentional

I'm PRETTY sure the "real house" in the photos was just made in Unity. So it would make sense for there to be another lil Easter egg
15:25 Hormones can definitely come in pill form. Injections are usually preferred for a lot of trans folks but pills are definitely available for trans folks who don't like or can't use needles. There are also topicals, like creams or gels that soak in subdermally in some cases. The same is true for both testosterone and estrogen. So you got a little misinfo last time. But theres a lot of that going around about the community these days 🙃
I think GZDoom might've been messing with the Staatmeister ghosts. When I played in Nugget Doom, they moved a lot faster and I *think* didnt have as much health
@@Kirby_Super I don't think that's it, these maps were tested in GZDoom and it's the recommended port to play it in. Maybe something about my compatibility settings messed them up. Or a version difference. GZDoom is kind of unpredictable sometimes.
I'm a trans guy myself I'm glad I'm not the only one that I felt like that's what the lore was alluding to I thought I was just overthinking it never made the connection about the pills being part of it but that's probably because like you pointed out that's not how it works
