This trailer got me in trouble with the government

  • I bought a US Navy trailer from a government auction up in the northern part of the state and we headed up with the @zackliftinternational4841 to pick it up. The auction items were in a storage yard that is outside of the military base so we didn't think twice about filming the hookup. That lasted all of about 30 seconds before a guy came hustling across the yard and told us to stop. We shut the camera off and then sat through a stern lecture about filming military property, and that none of the footage we got could be posted online. After that we finished hooking up and headed to a truck stop down the road to check the trailer over, and then had a very uneventful trip back home

    I have been on that very road I believe. Years ago b4 truck gps was around, got pulled over by sheriff who lectured me on following a gps and not using an atlas. I explained that I always verified my route with the paper maps and told him the atlas said nothing about no trucks , he bet me $100 cash or a ticket that I was wrong and the atlas did specify no trucks. I pulled out my atlas and handed it to him and he invited me to the hood of his car, he spent 20 minutes scouring the map then reached for his wallet and handed me $100 I told him to keep it that his professionalism and pleasant attitude was all that mattered to me. He insisted and he also invited me to lunch at his house just up the road! His wife who had to be 9 months pregnant with twins looked straight off the set of dr Quinn made country gravy and fried steak with mashed potatoes! There house was like those cabins you drove by an old ranch house! I’ll never forget that day and it’s partly why I will defend law enforcement until proven otherwise!

    I told neighbourhood kids that wind turbinesare actually fans and pointed out that they never see them turning when there isn't any wind. A friend who works at a local school said it only took a few days before most of the kids had convinced each other they were fans, apparently it took several weeks for tthe school to re-educate them. Slightly less time than when I told them that a nearby power station wth steam belching from its cooling towers is a cloud factory.

    The reasons for "no truck" roads round my neck of the woods tends to be road surface not designed for the weight, corners not wide enough for a truck to get round, and engine brakes echoing in a valley effectively waking everyone in town up. The latter two make it really easy to catch someone where they're not supposed to be. :P

    • @BTW...
      @BTW... 12 дней назад

      You forgot another reasons:
      Having a heavy vehicle, truck, on the road can make it unsafe for other road users and the general public. As a truck driver, would you like to see other large trucks along the same limited road coming the other way? Two lanes you know.
      To ensure safer, faster, more efficient truck transportation using high Class roads designed for that purpose.... after all, your working in the transport industry, not a bloody tourist on a sight seeing junket or worse.

    Casey, having worked and retired from US Gov for 42 years, i would 200% guarentee that you outbid someone "associated" with the motor pool. All that new equipment does not get applied to excess equipment due for sale/auction, especially eauipment of the age of your trailer. Other bidder pribably steamingly pissed that you got his trailer, expecting no one else would bid on it. Good trade! Always a joy to watch your videos. Thx snd congrats.

      I'm sure that you are correct, I've seen that happening in DRMO sales in 90s and later after the name change from DRMO. Quite a few HUMVEE's and trailers were done that way after 2005. My unit got a force issue of the trailers of one per vehicle plus 10% the M.T.O.E. was only 7-9 maximum for unit on top of re-issue of 1025 and 1026 HUMVEE's that had to be restored to 10-20 standards then less than a year later turned in for disposal sales. The trailers were straight from mfg. Then a unit with 2 LMTV's per company. I actually got to see the 3 HUMVEE'S I was signed for on the sales lot a year or so later.

      When I used to drive a big truck I was taking a highway through the country side instead of the boring interstates. I didn't notice any weight or no truck signs. Came down a hill running about 55 and saw the weight sign. 11 tons max. It's at the bottom of the hill which "g forces" the truck making it more heavy, I was 76,000 or something close. I couldn't stop, it didn't fall but I was puckered up bad.

      @@marlar58 he did seem to find a pretty good piece of equipment this time but it's a 50/50 shot most of the time, to often people end up spending twice what they paid for the equipment in repairs even if you do them yourself, big trucks and trailers big bucks.

    Casey, the long line of locomotives you saw are dead storage locomotives. They have been cannibalizing them for parts to keep the rest of the fleet limping along because they are too cheap to actually do real maintenance on their equipment...

    Casey, as I've said in the past thanks for the great video that's also informative! I drove over the road for over 25 years and you SIR are one down to earth person! When I first got a license there were no CDL at all. To drive a tractor trailer one needed an articulated license. When the federal government got involved we traded in our old license and needed to pass the road test! Miss the feeling of freedom on the road! Thanks again and I'm looking forward to see you use that new trailer. Gilbert Alicea NYC

    Typical overreaction of people trying to be the boss. I've worked on several actual navy bases, and photos/videos were allowed 'main side' wich means the primary base away from secured areas. So for them to claim no filming on a storage lot is absurd and hilarious. But ya did the right thing since those fights often aren't worth fighting.

    • @EyeMWing
      @EyeMWing 2 месяца назад +3

      A storage lot filled with equipment that's comprehensively photographed and posted on the internet for all to see, at that. Generally right where it sits. In my experience, equipment lots that are annoyed with photography have been in the shit for a moderate environmental catastrophe involving vehicle fluids, and have decided to blame people with cameras for raising it to attention. Same with junkyards.
