  • The TR Drivers Club and the TR Spares Development Fund joined together to fund this project to remanufacture the TR7/8 headlamp panel (WKC4077) following the scandal a few years ago when we learned that British Motor Heritage (BMH) had scrapped all the TR7 press tools. We have had ten panels produced and if this project is successful then our partners Ex-Pressed Steel Panels Ltd. have said they will put the panel back into production. At that point we can move onto the next project to ensure all the no longer available TR7/8 body panels are reproduced. If this first venture is not a success then the project ends here.
    31st October 2022 update: All panels sold quickly so the headlamp panels are now to be made available direct by Ex-Pressed Steel Panels and they can be contacted on +44 (0)1535 632721 or email ENQUIRIES@STEELPANELS.CO.UK web site is www.steelpanels.co.uk/
    Right now the TR Drivers Club are talking to Ex-Pressed Steel Panels about the next project which looks to be the offside (driver's side for RHD cars) door skin. We are also looking into the lower frame repair section which has not been available for many years with the correct drain hole pattern.

      Thank you T A P. Six of the ten are now purchased and paid for so it's looking good. There have been a few other serious enquiries too which I need to follow up on again because as soon as they're all sold they're going back into production and we can get on with the next panel that is currently unobtanium.
      John.

    John , as a triumph enthusiast I am delighted that your club and the associated organizations have arranged for these panels. I hope that it is a great success and that other panels will be forthcoming. What is good for one Triumph model is good for others. Best wishes

      Thank you Edward. With the TR Drivers Club and the TR Spares Development Fund behind us I'm increasingly confident that we can rescue the situation caused by British Motor Heritage and maybe in a few years time we'll actually get the TR7 into a better position than it was before the press tools were inadvertently scrapped. John.

    Very nicely done. Happily I'm not in need of one now but it's good to know that it's an option. 35 years ago I needed one for my TR7 and did all of the work to take one off of a wrecked car and paid $40 for a rust free panel. Drilling out all of the spot welds still haunts me. ;-). We are fortunate to have people like you that support our cars so passionately.

    • @JohnGClancy

      One thing I did say but cut out of the video is that "Ex-pressed Steel have said they will put this panel back into production if we sell them all." So we've all got to hope that TR7 owners over here realize the importance and even if they don't need a headlamp panel right now, they're prepared to put their hand in their pocket. Don't you worry over there Jim, we'll get all this sorted somehow and then it will mean that if you do ever - heaven forbid - have a bit of a shunt and need a replacement panel, they are here and a possibility.

    Thanks SO much you guys!! My car is an Arizona car, so rust isn't an issue, but the front fenders have been bent, then repaired poorly, and I hope the front wings become available!!

    • @JohnGClancy
      @JohnGClancy  3 года назад

      Yes, we certainly need front wings. It all depends on the support this venture receives. If it ain't there then it's the only major panel remanufacture project as far as this team is concerned. I have discussed it all with the main Triumph dealers and they all agree that it takes a club to make something like this a reality because it's not a financially sound business decision. Over to the owners!

      Thank you very much. Yesterday I was able to get the first coat of zinc primer on the full undersides of both the panels I have here and that enabled me to get a good look at the workmanship which really is exceptional. Ex-Pressed Steel Panels really are numero uno for this type of project.

    • @JohnGClancy
      @JohnGClancy  3 года назад +1

      You mean the "Keepax Alloy". The TWOA were looking into doing just that a few years ago. Somehow I think the urgency of reproducing body panels may have taken priority since BMH scrapped all the TR7 press tools.

  • @gallgreg
    @gallgreg 3 года назад

    Wow! The panel looks great!
    A little surprised they aren't primed, or is that just because it is a pre-production sample?
    (or are only Robsport's going to be primed?)

    • @JohnGClancy
      @JohnGClancy  3 года назад +2

      Ex-Pressed Steel Panels supply them like this and prime them if they're going into longer term storage. I will be zinc priming the pair I have here, Robsport's supply of five are already etch primed (at no extra cost thanks to Simon at Robsport I hasten to add) and the pair with Paul Lewis for the club to display may go through the phosphating process, that's being investigated right now. They look better in shiny bare metal though. If you want one Greg get in touch and we'll get it sorted. If we sell them all then Ex-Pressed Steel Panels will put it back into production and we all win.

    • @JohnGClancy
      @JohnGClancy  9 месяцев назад +1

      Ex-Pressed Steel Panels sell them to order now. Job done. We're hoping to get back to sorting out the next panel soon which is likely to be the door skin that's unavailable as we'll need a wealthy benefactor for the front wings. Given the sniping and criticism you tend to get whenever you undertake a charitable job like this designed to help us all we're of the view that re-creating one of the wings will inevitably result in a few loonies going nuts and demanding that we stop what we're doing and re-create the other wing. You just can't win!
      John.

      Dear Mr Clancy I concur with your points, have had it my whole life. Looked under the front and saw cancer in that very panel. In Aus rust is not as bad as salty roads. So yes sometime soon gonna need to replace them. Please take a bow, Thank you sir.

      @@SunnieSnell When you're ready get on to Ex-Pressed Steel Panels and they'll get one of the pressed but unfinished panels off the shelves and put it in the queue for hand finishing. It might take a month or two but at least you'll know it's in hand.

  • @arnovanderlaan38

    Awesome work! Do you only make a limited amount of panels? or are there press tools made so you can always produce more panels when needed?

    • @JohnGClancy
      @JohnGClancy  3 года назад +1

      This is a partnership with Ex-Pressed Steel Panels and the basis is that if the first batch sells then there is a demand and Ex-Pressed will put the panel back into production which is what we all want. We can then move onto the next project but if there's not a demand, that's all folks! I would like to be able to simply put an order in for parts for my car when I need them and I'm sure most of us feel the same way so I feel it is essential for the future viability of the TR7 that this project is successful. I forgot to say the Ex-Pressed Steel own the press tools which we've basically funded through this first batch of ten. Perfect arrangement in my opinion.

    • @JohnGClancy
      @JohnGClancy  3 года назад +2

      @@arnovanderlaan38 It's unlikely any dealers will want to stock these other than Robsport International as we have an agreement with Robsport but for a dealer to actually purchase it's hard to see how they could make any money from them. This is intended to be a not for profit venture by the TRDC and the TR SDF to try to ensure TR7s and TR8s around the world have the best chances of survival long into the future. But thank you for thinking of your local Triumph parts supplier. John.

    • @JohnGClancy
      @JohnGClancy  3 года назад

      Not yet but looking promising as there is only one left. We need to get the spares fund established though and that's been held up probably due to the pandemic but I don't really know. With the good will around the world due to what we've done we should have struck while the iron was scalding but wheels move slowly in even the most efficient car clubs such as the TR Drivers Club. Still, the good news is that the TR Spares Development Fund will still get some of the missing panels reproduced without the TRDC so whatever happens, we'll get most of it sorted in the end it's just that Brian and I wanted to get the TR7 and TR8 into a better place than it had been for years. Keep your fingers crossed everyone in the club is with us when it comes to the crunch. John.
