    Excellent video series. I really despise RUclipsrs, that speak about some "science stuff", and do not do their homework and say "this works this way and I do not know why". Sadly my kids like to watch these. But here while keeping the "rocket science" in reasonable levels, you really go after the problems and cover the important stuff, that the KSP tutorial skips. And your real world examples are exactly nailing what you are after.
    Thank you for doing this tutorial (even though it was quite some time ago).

I have a few math math RUclipsrs I love: 3Blue1Brown, Matheloger, Numberphile, and StandUpMaths, but their topics are diverse and mostly don't connect much to what I do in Let's Do The Math. When I write the series I imagine my audience as a high level, senior, high school student, which probably isn't fair as that isn't the level of most people, especially if you've not done it for a bit, but I don't want the videos to get too bogged down.
      Come to think of it, 3Blue1Brown has been doing a series on high school math topics. I've not watched any of them, but I can't imagine them not being excellent.

    I had no trouble making a highly elliptical orbit to get past 250km. What I had trouble with (in the last episode) was making a mostly circular orbit. I found it really touch to try to get just the right amount of eastwardly direction during launch. Too little, and you can't reach orbit (and trying to correct often makes you lose control). Too steep, and your orbit will be very elliptical.
    Is there any way to make that more precise? Some equipment we haven't seen yet?

  • @johnokean8216

    So ideally you thrust just before the periapsis to increase the altitude of your apoapsis at the smallest cost. Then you burn just before your apoapsis to even out your orbit if you wish, or retrograde to return. Nice.

    How do I get the maneuver node? I read tracking station has to be level 2 but it didn’t work! Help please!!

      You have to upgrade Mission Control as well. I often forget about that one as it's usually the first building I upgrade.

    • @MikeAben

      This may not be it, but if you are playing career mode, maneuver nodes don't become available until after you've upgraded both the administrative building and the tracking station to tier two.

    How do you get the ship file in to kerbal. I dropped in into kerbal ships directory but it's not showing up..

    • @MikeAben
      @MikeAben  3 года назад

      There are two locations. In the Ships folder are folders for the VAB and SPH. Putting it in one of those folders makes it available with the stock ships (which you see in sandbox mod).
      Alternatively, in Saves you will find folders for each of your saves. In there is another Ships folder with another pair of VAB and SPH folders. Placing it in one of these folders makes the ship available for that particular save.

      @@MikeAben hi thanks for the input but I have already done that. When I go to load a craft, vab shows the ones I made only, sph is blank and steam is the only one I get craft load in the list. I have checked the file directory and the ships are there. Done a reinstall the same problem with a new save...

    • @MikeAben
      @MikeAben  Год назад

      I'm guessing you are referring to buttons to the left of the navball that lock the vessel to different vectors. They are available from the start in sandbox and science mode. They become available in career mode as you level up pilots and unlock higher tier probe bodies.

    How the heck did you get an orbit with such a low eccentricity in the beginning? The difference between my apoapsis and periapsis most of the time is at least a few kilometers, but yours is no more than a few hundred meters. How did you get such a good orbit?

    • @MikeAben

      Reducing thrust for the later part of the ascent makes this usually pretty easy.

    I am a bit confused on when to burn
    Can anyone please tell me when to burn?

    • @MikeAben
      @MikeAben  4 года назад

      Are you talking about when to start a burn after you've made a maneuver node? If so, the game provides a countdown timer as described in the video. If you are talking about where the maneuver node should be placed, then it depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

    • @igor_667
      @igor_667 4 года назад

      @@MikeAben okay I think I understand but let's have an example: if time to node is 1 minute and my burn time is 20 seconds should I start burning 20 seconds to time to node? Thanks!

    • @MikeAben
      @MikeAben  4 года назад

      You start at half the time to the node, so 10 seconds. I have to apologize because I just realized that this video doesn't have the countdown timer to start. It's buried in the settings, but with the latest version of the game (1.10) the timer is there by default.

    • @igor_667
      @igor_667 4 года назад

      Thank you that makes sense now! Just one last question: what should I do if the time to node is less time than the burn time for example: the time to node is 20sec and my burn time is 40sec. Ok thank you very much for responding!!

    • @MikeAben
      @MikeAben  4 года назад

      No problem. It depends. Could you perform the maneuver later? For example, if you are going to the Mun, you could just do the burn on the next orbit. On the maneuver editing view at the bottom right, there's a button for moving the maneuver to the next orbit.
      If delay isn't an option, then start the burn now and hope for the best.
