- Carenado has a TBM 850 simulator for Prepar3d and Microsoft Flight Simulator. I'm a TBM 900 and G1000 pilot in "real life" so thought I'd review this sim to see what works - and what doesn't.
Here's where to buy this simulated aircraft:

Here's how to use ForeFlight with a sim:

nice one Jason, i am a big A320 fan on flight sim, after watching Steveo with his TBM850 and also testing the 930 i came across your videos and now i am a big TBM 900/930 fans. love it. you interior video and exterior vids where amazing. and now you also doing a flight simulator vid... i am in heaven
Very kind, thanks so much!!
I realize that you made this video back in 2018, It served me well in 2020, I am a fan of single engine low wing aircrafts
I always wanted to fly (simulation) The TBM 850/900. After watching this video I bought this model from Carenado. Thank you for the review.
Great review before buy. Thanks.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I was hoping you were doing the video based on the X-Plane 11 version, as Carenado hasn't yet updated the model yet, and although it's somewhat flyable, there are some major issues. Us X-Plane pilots are anxiously waiting for the update.
What type issues are there with the X-Plane 11 version?
Tron the two biggest problems I know of are the incorrect modeling of the PT6 which changed dramatically from XP10 to XP11... You can't start from cold without melting down the turbine (haven't been able to fix in Plane Maker). The other is some crazy ground handling on application of power, like way too much p-factor effects or something... The plane will sit there and do ground loops until you get enough forward momentum, even with full opposite rudder correction.
Totoriko is creating a TBM900 for XP11 which will be far better than the Carenado.
Fun times, it's a fun plane, especially with a GTN750
I had the same problems trying to enter a flight plan and ended up "pretending" that a plan had been established and I essentially flew the route "by hand." It seems that there are some bugs in the user interface, having to re-enter the identifiers, etc., etc. A nice airplane otherwise, but very disappointing flight planner. Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one who had problems with it! Good video.
It is nice to see a real pilot make an evaluation of this airplane, I am also a real airplane ATP flying the Falcon jets DA50EX and a DA2000 now. I also flew TBM N850CE for a few hours.
Jason did you learn to fly out of Lynchburg, VA in a Vagabond?
Nope, not me! :). Thanks for the kind words!!!
Very informative, thank you. Just ordered the plane from Carenado and curiously looking forward for it.
One question: do you use Xcamera to move around in the plane?
Nah, just built in controls, never tried any of those custom products before.
Thank you, installed the plane today and brought it in the air for the first time. Really amazing!!!
Interesting perspective for me as a 'simmer' and you as a 'pilot'.. I enjoyed your pilot's viewpoints of this sim aircraft. I noticed you had some issue when you (Shft+2; and Shft+3) to manipulate your FP entry. I've found that rather frustrating myself.. There is a better way, though that way does seem logical with the small fonts on what otherwise would be a fast moving sequence... From the 'virtual cockpit', you can bring up the 'instrument screen' by pressing the 'A' key. Once there, you can zoom in and you will note that in that screen you will enjoy the typical 'outer/inner' knob for manipulating entries.. Best wishes!
Thanks, sounds helpful! I WAS struggling. :)
PS I did find out how to manipulate the MAP to get what I needed.
I agree I think since I fly TBM 950 in MSFS... I only have the 850 in XPLANE - and the G 1000 seems to have no PROC available - I guess Ill try SIM BRIEF for FL Plan ? I want to use APPROACH on the fly (ha pun intended)...Like use the D (direct to Airport) but setup an APPROACH as well. The PROC button does nothing on either panel...not to mention the cursor movement is a puzzle from 1 area to the next.
Im really interested in LUA SCripts for these aircraft ... are you aware of any ?
So Jason there is a TBM900 for x-plane that came out by a company called Hot Start, it is marketed through the name “Take Command! TBM900” might be closer to your 900. Would be fantastic to see a “what is what” about it
Yeah, check out my early beta test of that here ruclips.net/video/PRr9qIstScU/видео.html
I plan to do another video with the released version before long!
didnt mention that i am a Terminal Radar ATC at FYWH, any atc related Videos would be fantastic maybe your experiences with top controllers or not so well versed ATC :))
Good idea, but honestly I have not dealt with anything but great controllers. Even the trainees were good - once I was vectored in too close on a RNAV approach and had to ask to "start over again" but even then the controller was helpful and apologetic. "Mistakes" like that are very rare though.
Jason,...how did you get a lift in the real Tom?? 🤘👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love these planes - 900 is better i think... shouldnt you be at Hi Idle at take off ?
Also I have problems with PROC button on the MFD ? the big screen. It didnt seem to do anything - I cant add an APPROACH without a FLP.
Also Havent played with it enough - but the MAP screen you have is very different than mine... cannot acheive in XPLANE.
Thanks fr the Video
The TBM 900 in x-plane is one of the best sim models out there, I highly recommend that one. The Garmin is as good as they could make it too.
A very nice review, indeed! A few details, however...
Next time check if fuel condition lever is in the "high" position, which will give you both the right ITT, and the proper 70% NG before giving full take-off power. I am not sure that cabin pressure setting was adequate for FL200.
You have mentionned a quite irrealistic behaviour (too quick) at turbine start. That's the main difference with XP11 where the engine is slowly rising to its working level. FSX has a poor record for in properly simulating a turboprop. Therefore expecting with some eagerness the new XP11 version of this Carenado aircraft.
Excellent point, I realized after I recorded this that I never put the Condition lever to high idle as I should have. In X-Plane 11 I think Austin coded it to do much better turbine start sequences like you said, I need to try that out.
Jason...do you use full procedure or just hit quick start keys?🤫🤔😜
Normally the full procedure! :)
My condition lever won't move up. When I try to move it up it just goes back to off.
do you have flight controller? because maybe theresx one thing trying to set it to 0% and the other one trying to set full speed. if this isnt the case, try reinstalling it :)
please the next video will be on citation mustang
Is it Ok if you take off at low idle.?
No, shouldn't have done that! :)
Thanks for the review. Not going to buy it.
Not sure if you have Xplane, However theres a TBM900 in development that it very nice.
wow, really? How do I get that?!
Jason Do you have Xplane 11?? Im sure he would want you to get involved considering your knowledge.
I do, who should I ask about the TBM?
Hi Jason. I know the developer (Saso) of the XP11 TBM and have been helping him beta test. Would love to get you on board with beta testing and development. The plane is fantastic. Send me a PM and I will connect you two. Cheers Jason. Love the channel.
Hi Jason, I'm that guy who's developing the TBM900 for X-Plane 11. I wanted to reach out to you once we had some nicer visuals in the model (current 3D model is a placeholder and is subject to major improvements), but if you can tolerate that it's a bit of an eyesore at the moment, I'd love it if we could connect over PM, E-mail or Discord (discord.gg/7egEpuZ).
Which one of the flight sims is the better one of the group?
XPlane 11 with this upcoming HotStart TBM 900 model is the best to me!
I believe XPlane to have the best aerodynamic modeling. That said, I don't worry about that too terribly much (as long as it is reasonably good) as a desktop sim can never really compare to the real thing without all the movement and seat-of-the-pants aspect. I have always paid closer attention to the general looks and the accuracy of the avionics. With that, it depends less on the sim and more on the maker of the model itself. I have had good and bad models on both MS Flight Sim and XPlane. I really enjoyed the TBM 850 on FSX but it doesn't compare to the TBM 900 that HotStart is doing for XPlane. XPlane 11 also fixed the thing I liked the least about XPlane - it's UI. It now looks and feels great, so I have switched to that as my sole sim at this point.
Nice video! Your PFD is in reversionary mode, the engine instruments don't appear on the left side of the PFD unless the MFD goes out. Click the red button under your audio panel on the left side to turn it off :)
Here's what it should look like:
www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/tbm850/g1000-big.jpg
Happy flying!
Richard Hawran ah, you’re right, didn’t notice that. In the real G1000, reversionary mode would have all 3 screens looking identical - all like the PFD does in this video.
True! A little bit of Carenado funny business haha
Looks a nice aircraft but to me the A2A addons are better
But why the absence of speed sensation during takeoff . In my opinion doesn't feel very realistic although the aircraft is very well designed.I am not a pilot maybe that's why I can't feel the realism.
LOREMA LIN He was in low idle rather than flight idle which would have a huge impact on performance
Doesn't appear or sound like a TBM but glad you gave it a go Jason.
its probably not going to sound the same to you from speakers if you are flying one in real life. and i think it appears identical to a TBM so maybe you mean graphically? Not sure how much more you are expecting, you know this is a simulator right?
Meme ḍǿƗJPG and after Hotstart dropped their model 900 and blew the simulation world of X-Plane away do you still standby this statement ??
They really did show us all just how much lacking a lot of expansion payware has been.
Of course
Use this for xp11.
Yeah, you missed the big red knob! You took off in low idle. HAHA. That being said....now that the HotStart TBM900 for XP11 is here, this isn't even worth considering.
Same here thanks for the review. But i am the same will not buy carenado products.
Yeah, the Hot Start TBM 900 for XPlane is the way to go
@@JasonFlies I do agree the i have the hot start TMB and even with its issue on the runway its a great sim aircraft.
i will not buy anything carenado produces again
please the next video will be on citation mustang
like some details of the aircraft
Great idea, will work on that sometime!
