There’s something about Wyoming that cleanses the very soul, my sweet hubby and I used to vacation there every August. He went to be with our Lord 15 months ago so I watch your videos and it reminds me of all the great times we had in the wild Wyoming country side. Makes me sad but happy also.
Cold mornings are the best... you start out trying to keep the warmth of your sleeping bag with you, longing for the sunshine. If it then finally hits your face.. The best! Yeah, woods and such are nice, but now and again the mountain calls you and you have to go. It's always awesome, you feel never more alive, the views, .. You can't explain it to people that haven't been there and hiked up those slopes. I see your video, and I know that it doesn't do it justice, it just can't, you have to experience it! Happy Hiking!
I love Wyoming, my husband is from Sheridan and tells me so many stories! I’ve only been to Story Wyoming for a couple days in a cabin. Sooo beautiful out there!
So funny watching you “rock along”, that is identifying something up the trail like a big rock or flower patch, walking to it and then identifying the next marker to reach. I do the same thing on tough uphills, little micro goals to help me ascend. Great video, seems like the trekking poles are of considerable value on parts of the trail not to mention for the tent. Stay safe !
Hooray! Those high mountain meadows are showing the early Fall, brown and dying, the Winds are so much different than Colorado’s high mountains. The gray granite peaks and rock falls are , how did you say it, “other worldly”. At the end, you drop onto the Red Desert basin. You’ll miss the Winds! The lonesome lake with its reflection is so introspective, stellar! Stay warm and stay safe!👍🏼
I am 62 and backpacked this summer for the first time in my life. I backpacked the southern most 5 segments on the Colorado Trail, 24-28. As far as father time, I spend a lot of time keeping myself in shape, so I am hoping I still have at least 10 years to enjoy additional backpacking experiences.
It’s not a bad hike from Big Sandy trailhead to the Circ. Start early morning, take your time, and you’re good. Just a heads up, you can take a high or low trail around Arrowhead Lake (last lake before Jackass Pass). Both should be on the maps. As a bonus, there is great trout fishing in Lonesome Lake.
You are so precious when you’re happy! It’s some of my favorite parts of your vlogs. It kinda just jumps off the screen and makes me happy too! Thank you. 😊
That’s totally how I was on Texas pass… except at each goal I took a tiny break. Could totally feel the lack of oxygen there. And then you get over the pass and the view is so awesome 💛💛
When you’re done, go hike the Laugavegur Trail in Iceland next year in early August. I’ve hiked the high country in the Winds, Tetons and North Cascades. The Laugavegur is breathtaking.
Woo Hoo…my wife and I camped at lonesome lake one year ago August 2023 near a small water fall. The view from jackass pass to me is the best. You should be able to get the Big Sandy Lodge … great food. Hope you guys stopped and got some. love your videos so much ❤
One big con of carbon fiber poles it that they are more likely to snap. I've seen it happen to people a lot. Generally, aluminum poles might bend, but you can often bend them back straight to an extent. My Black Diamond Ergo Trail corks are still pretty light. Most big name brand poles will have replacement parts, so it's best to ship them home.
I just know it must have been that much harder to hike with out tracking poles. You’re doing amazing. I’ll be hiking park of the AT next month can’t wait. Inspiring
You may want to try some leg warmers from a cycling store, they go from your thigh to ankle, are used mornings rides when it’s 🥶cold and can be taken off without removing your shoes.
Arkansas girl in the Wyoming high country. That's living the high life. Haha. As a longtime central Wyomingite, welcome to the area and hope your time here is amazing. Safe travels, Kelly and everyone with you on your journey.
Hiking in shorts when it is 30 degrees outside ... sure you're not secretly from Iowa. 😂 You have excellent mental strategies to get up difficult climbs ... picking a spot up ahead and looking back to marvel at how far you have come. Good job. 🎉
Thank you for sharing. Watching it felt like being home! Shadow Lake. Texas Pass. The Cirque. You have been so fortunate with the weather. „Cruisy” was the word of the day? 😢
Glad you made it to more familiar looking trails. Seeing how basic you travel, in-order to keep moving in that wild / right next to inhabitable; area. At least water appears available, not sure if the still lake water is drinkable, sure looks good from a distance. Think you quickly showed some heat packs... If so, those would be a luxury item there. {Small things like that, can be so great}.
This is why I love living in the northwest. Mountains, lakes, rivers, wildlife & solitude. Hey, instead of mayo in your ramen try some peanut butter. It's bomb, like a Tai peanut sauce
Instead of the megawarmer, consider a pocket warmer that burns lighter fluid. They usually are warmer than the chemical warmers and cheaper in the long run. What ever you use, you can use them to warm and dry your shoes and socks in the morning. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
I hiked up to Beehive Lake in North Idaho one summer and fell asleep only to look up later with a bright light so bright in my face I said...."can I help you!' thinking it was a spotlight from someone in my face. It was, it was the moon and it was from the Creator.
I hope your group placed your camp at least 440 yards (1/4 mile) from the lake as required by the regulations? Lonesome Lake is the headwaters of the North Fork of the Popo Agie River. Beautiful country. I passed through the Cirque in 2021 in early September when the Elk were in rut. The sound of a big bull Elk bugling in that area is something you’ll never forget.
Kind of funny, You have warrior peak, War Bonnet Peak, and Jackass Pass there belong Lonesome Lake. Would be fun to spend 2-3 days just photographing that area
I know the CDT is literally pick your own route, but why is there a "red line" if it's just a big fat (less desired) option? I'd 100% do the routes you guys are doing.. I'm just wondering why the CDT route is the CDT route. Is it a public lands/private lands/safety thing? Does anybody even follow it fully? You guys are hitting some gnarly (epic!) adventures. Unprepared at times, but getting through it. Living vicariously. The CDT is the one I know the least about, so learning as I watch here. Thanks for all the footage!
Hi again Kelly 👋!!! Watching you everyday. You are a super woman!!! I'm so proud of you ❤. God is your strength and refuge 😊☝️a very present help in time of trouble ❤I can't get over the views😮

Kelly Hays the Queen of Low ration meals 😂 you should watch some of those prison cook videos where they make fool course meals on little to nothing maybe that will help you when your food rations get low
Don’t run out of snacks get wild ones like red clovers pine tree cambium pine nuts chicken of the woods mushroom wild grape leaves wild grapes cattails cattail root theres bunch more and if you need meat squirrels rabbits turkey well check the laws and seasons deer is a super meat
Why not just pick up a good ol fashion walking stick to temporary replace your fancy trekking pole. Enter old man "back in my day" lecture here... haha

I will be 50 soon. I have got to get this area on my list of backpack adventures while I still can! Thanks for the inspiration Kelly!

The winds are an incredible place. That music at the beginning of the video is very relaxing.
You are so precious when you’re happy! It’s some of my favorite parts of your vlogs. It kinda just jumps off the screen and makes me happy too! Thank you. 😊

When you came up to the top of the pass...😮 time stood still for a moment. Good to see you happy on the high route. 😀 Enjoy the hand warmers! 🌲🏕🌲

The CDT tries to keep as close to the continental divide as possible I believe
You're rocking it. 👍
Looks like it warmed up a bit, so that’s nice! 😂
