    Has there been any American player that didn’t go to a tennis academy in junior years and had to play at college level made it to a grand slam final? Very special! Super talented and superb strong will! Collins is one that tennis kids should look up to. She has proved that you don’t need to pay a lot of money for private lessons or training at a tennis academy to become a great tennis player.

    Ashley has been on fire this whole tournament but another giant is Danielle Collins whose game, humility, mindset and fight has been absolutely amazing to watch. Her grind, determination and movement on the court has been impressive thus far. It hasn't been an easy draw for her and I am very happy for all her success. She's worked hard and earns every win. Now go for the title queen.

  • @redroad9949
    @redroad9949 2 года назад +13

    Swiatek had a very favorable draw (highest seed she met was #25 Kasatkina) and made the most of it. She kept it together in some tough fights and achieved more than I would have rated her to pre-tournament. She is working with a rather weak serve and almost no net game but has time on her side.
    Congratulations to Collins for playing out of her skin, and being able to sustain that degree of aggression at low error rates for an entire match. Great serve, strong on both flanks, especially the backhand.
    Barty has a far superior and more complete game than any of Collins opponents until now. Serves are accurate, varied and powerful. Collins will not be able to so easily dismiss them as she did Swiatek's. I expect Barty's low skiddy slice to the backhand to cause Collins difficulty: she cannot step in and drive over them into the ad corner (esp into the service box). Rallies will not be at a single tempo. It'll be harder to get into a groove. She'll be pulled to the net on occasion and her net game is untested so far. Should be an interesting battle. If Ash and Danielle play as they have, my money is on Barty winning in two close sets.

    • @papaczolg
      @papaczolg 2 года назад +1

      Sure, the draw wasn't bad for Iga at all and she still has much potential to improve. Today she was absolutely dominated by Collins, who delivered a top-notch performance I was truly impressed with, especially by the way she put forward her plan A - excellent serve & return, she's so motivated and confident. But, writing that the highest seed Swiatek met was #25 Kasatkina is rather shallow. Her potential opponents included Sabalenka, Halep, Kvitova, Pavlyuchenkova; but they lost their matches to apparently 'inferior' opponents, who then Iga consistently (although not without trouble) dealt with. The depth is WTA is truly immense now... So, there certainly was an element of favourable circumstances to her route at 2022 AO, and her record against top-10 players has much to improve; but she does deserve credit for this semi-final. Again, congratulations to Danielle for this match and getting to the final, well-deserved, and generally an inspirational story of success!

      Man, at the age of 20 she won 2020 RG, 2022 WTA1000 in Rome 2021, also Adelaide 2021, QF at 2021 RG, now continuing a very consistent series of performances at consecutive GSs (6 times in a row in the second week I guess, the only one in WTA) and just got to AO SF... Plus the junior Wimbledon. She's now ranked 4th in WTA, for the second time in her short tennis career. I guess 99% tennis players would consider it a record of dreams for entire career. So, sure, still much to room for improvement given her potential - but what I want to say is that these patronizing, cheering comments like 'no worries, you will learn & get better, it's not so easy to become Chamption, we love you anyway' that appear so often once Swiatek looses a match are kind of erratic, aren't they?:)

      WTA ranking is a joke for years now. Without Serena, only Ash kind of keeps the level but other top 10 players can with equal chances lose to players at 100+ position.
      For ATP it is happening sporadically, for WTA it is just a norm.

    Collins does have RA but that doesn't mean she has to act like she hates her opponent. I have to say it's hard to be on her side. Barty on the other hand is mature beyond her years. If Collins can't blow her off the court in the first 2 shots, Barty will win in straight sets.

Just keep playing your game and take the returns early like you did with Swiatek. Doesn't matter who's on the other side of the net, just play your game, you got this! 💯 AO🏆

If she add some power to her serve nobody can beat her. I am also impressed by the shake hand at the end. If DC have lost the game she even would not have shaken hand. Congrat to DC anyway.
