Barty is a true athlete playing tennis her foot work is impeccable on the court...that cricket background really shows through. The serve & slice is just bananas...neutralizes everyone.
Man I miss barty so much on the WTA tour. She was the reason that got me watching it. Her game is so entertaining unlike current pusher and baseline players :| Her deep slices, net game, serve... the variations in spin are so nutty
Obviously not the same total success by Barty, but the control she has on that slice is Graf-esque. Everytime I see that shot, I see total confidence that it's the best shot possible during the point. Extremely smart, and hoping to see a crazy SF.
Barty is on a roll. I think Jessica was so nervous she made rookie mistakes, like hitting her overheads right back to Barty. Happy for Barty. I can’t wait for Barty vs Keys. That’s going to be a version of Barty/Osaka match that we’ve come close to getting the last year. But, I think Madison has a much better chance based on how she’s been playing.
Pegula is the typical American player whose parents paid loads of money for a coach to feed them balls for hours at a time, on a practice court. No front court skills, don’t know how to defend or construct a point. Just bash from the baseline.
Barty is proof that heavy 🎾 ball hitting surmounts to Zilch ! Her game is simple , quirky but very effective! She Nukes her opponents strong strokes effortlessly! A unconventional player in an era where hard hitting is the script !
I truly love Barty as a complete player. I wish her all the best in the semis. It would be so wonderful if she won her first Aussie Open right at home!
Barty played the perfect match. In her next match, it will be completely out of her hands. Keys has the ability to hit anyone off the court. If Barty stays solid & consistent, the match is hers.
The way Barty strikes the ball reminds me of Steffi Graf. She slices her backhands 90% of the time and has a similar looping swing off her forehand side.
the only thing they have in common is the fact they play always the backhand slice but theyr backhand and theyr forheand is completely different, graf was something very special, her style and her eleganz was uncomparable
Jessica has come quite aways she gets better and better , Barty is amazing Keep up the good work Jes use this match to forward your career Buffalo Ny supports you
AO is for Barty to lose. Total dominance. Opening up the court. Keeping the ball low. Seems only lefties or players with a big service game can do well against this style of play. Can't hit flat and hard to balls that stay low. Seems WTA players have not figured out the slice backhand. Didn't figure it out when Steffi was doing it. Barty's game is an open book. You know exactly how she's going to play. But they still can't find a solution. Not that it is an easy problem at all.
women have more trouble moving forward on low slice vs laterally. They also don't practice against someone who has power and slice. Graf did this expertly during her career. It wears down her oppoents, making them hit a low two hander like Vicario and seles had to do
She is playing incredible the reason she has a Amazing combination in her game variety. This is what Tennis is about slice topspin , flat 🎾🎾🏆🏆She is going to be the one to try and beat in the next 3to 4 years .
Time and again, Pegula cannot deal with Barty's backhand slice. That is the difference between someone with variety and a unidimensional baseline hitter...
I don’t get why players don’t charge the net on Ash’s slice. She has tremendous bite and hits it very low, to grind it out in the baseline is way to challenging!
Because she changes the direction of slice its so unpredictable which way she is doing .. also she does it so deep and so close to net .. you need to have good hands to tackle at net .. if u miss it either go away or hit net
Most players, especially on the WTA side are not confident at the net because that's not their style. That being said, there are quite a number of doubles players on the tour who are very comfortable at the net but then when it comes to playing singles, they just prefer to stay back.
Barty neutralized Pegula and outplayed her. I'd still like to see less predictable shots and going behind the opponent more often. Tennis is not (always) about overpowering the opponent.
I used to think ash was one handed with all those slices. I’ve never seen someone use 80% slice on the backhand like her. Crazy. If it’s getting her through to wining slams how can you complain. Seems to have a decent two handed surprises she don’t use that as much
Seeing as most the girls on the tour like sitting on the baseline and power hitting , it makes perfect sense not to use the two handed . the slice takes the pace and predictability away from the power hitters.
Too bad, I was kinda hoping for more from Pegula, a meeting of two of the smarter players on the tour but Barty's got too many tools in addition, trying to out Barty Barty isn't going to work especially with a few UEs. The Bill's losing probably didn't help matters, but that wasn't going to change the result. Good run for Pegula, this is probably her MO. Who's left to challenge Barty? Haven't watched Keys enough, maybe Amanda was her biggest challenge.
why do people say that? Like it works ok. She uses it selectively. Mostly for passing shots or winners down the line. She picks and chooses based on ehr opponent
If you watch her Doubles matches you will see how good her backhand is... it's just that in Singles her backhand slice is just too good and allows her to control points so easily
Last one who could stop Barty went out yesterday, Halep, even not playing her best Halep got guts, passion she would prepare to an eventual final against Barty like her last one now seems a free road no Serena and no Osaka. It would be a big surprise for me if Barty losses this AO.
We'll see, I think Keys might be able to stop her, but apart from Keys I would agree that the rest seems powerless to stop Barty. Keys is on fire. But she has had more playing time on court. It's gonna be a great match hopefully.
Indeed. Keys is hitting the lights out. Barty will thwart her strength. Can Keys keep it up against the best variety and tennis IQ on tour? She'll have to to stand a chance. Barty prevails.

@@siobhanebert6965 Again nope! Keys is the likely contender, if she is on her game like she has been throughout, Barty will be seeing fire power she's not encountered!
As long as you hit the slice deep around the service line she won't be able to, she needs to play with a bit more variety against a player like Ash not more power .
Kinda worried about Barty vs. Keys. Barty will def have more energy going into that since Keys played a lot of day matches in the sun and Barty played lots of night matches
