Do you guys recommend Paula's choice BHA over Cosrx BHA power liquid? I want to try a BHA out and James usually recommed those as the best ones he uses.
I’ve been loving the ELF cleansing balm! I usually don’t use fragrance but I don’t mind it in this product. $10 for an effective balm is so worth it to me!
Thank youuu for recognizing that normal people get stressed about products over $30 😂. I hate seeing casual recommendations for products well out of range for most people. Like “oooh the la mer products” OKAY well that doesn’t help me or anyone I know so … lol
The Paula's choice does work for me, it actually makes my skin feel oily. The glow recipe one is my holy grail, I redeemed Sephora points for one it was tiny but I got about 7 or 8 uses and saw results. I used the mini Paul's choice and saw no difference.
I remember, in my 20's, that I thought if after washing & using toner if the skin on my face wasn't tight, that it didn't work. The tighter & dryer my face was, the better the skin care products worked. Yes, now I know that's just wrong, I currently enjoy Tatcha but James you have thrown some really good suggestions for replacements. It is harder to find replacement products for an affordable price & how to figure out what to buy. I hate wasting money on products that don't work.
What do you love from Tatcha?? I only have their deep rice polish and I adore it! The price tag puts me off trying their other stuff in case I don't like it though and I know people think they're overrated
You know what I like that you clarified the difference between skincare dupes cuz I clicked into this video already feeling kinda defensive. But now I’m more open to what you’re saying. Especially cuz I love all these higher end versions.
James I love that you gave an idea of what price seems affordable and what seems expensive to you. Gives immediately a general overview. Also love your videos :)
I agree!! $300 for HA is WAY TOO MUCH!! Especially when you can get the same thing for a fraction of the cost!! These "luxury" brands need to watch out. The more informed we get the less likely we are to be swindled.
I really liked this video! I've been improving my skin care routine and adding some stuff while trying to keep a 20.00 to 25.00 US dollar max per product. (20.00 to 25.00 if is a very good serum or if contains a generous amount of product) Sometimes going through the ingredients needed in products, the right percentage to get to an expensive product and then looking for a cheaper alternatives takes so much time. So I really appreciate this. Please make more like this one! Btw love your channel! 💕 Following your great content from Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷
for anyone that really likes the glossier milky cleanser but looking for a cheaper option - the beauty bay cleansing gel is amazing (even better imo) really gentle and soothing on the skin. also vegan and cruelty free! also love the garnier spf 50 face fluid which is a more affordable dupe for la roche posay spf 50 fluid. garnier is now cruelty free too where as LRP sadly aren’t :(
Is it possible to be cruelty free for garnier but not for lrp if they both belong to the same company? 🤔 I'm just curious Also I agree with the Garnier uv fluid spf50. One of the best sunscreens in a drugstore, but the bottle is so tiny:(
Garnier (= loreal) isn't really cruelty free. Their products are cruelty free in Europe but they sell to China and there it's always tested on animals.
Literally - I know CeraVe isnt entirely cruelty free but I'm worried about moving onto something else incase I start breaking out again. I feel like such a bad person but I know I'm going to hate myself if I start breaking out again
Regarding the Paula's Choice BHA, you can get a 1 oz travel size bottle for roughly $10 thru Sephora online or Paula's Choice website, the same price as the 1 oz BHA the Inkey List has.
Cerve eye cream has all the things the expensive eye cream have (ceramides, hyaluronic acid and a marine and botanical complex) in and really works! Hydrates and immediately brightens under the eyes. £9
If you’re ever interested in trying/reviewing some Aussie products, I would recommend: - tribe skincare: Hydrate Me! Night Moisturizer (tad to fragrant for me) - newish brand (some room for improvement) - Fluff CC - any of the face oil (my fave is #3) and they have some cool eco friendly ideas - Ultra Violette: Queen Screen Lightweight skinscreen SPF 50+ (yes 50+) Australia has lots to offer the skincare work 😘x
Let's not forget that doctor peddling that overpriced hyaluronic serum is an orthopedic, not a dermatologist. I suggest watching dr shereene idriss' video on hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is so 2018.
Have you tried Boots own label unperfumed gel cleanser? I discovered that when I was desperate for a cleanser in an airport departure lounge, and I've never looked back. I put it in a bottle with a bit of water and use it as a foaming cleanser, because I love those but I know they are bad (a Japanese one wrecked my skin for a good 6 months). Another overlooked beauty is the Superdrug Pure and Gentle serum. You want ceramides? You got them here. Since I went cruelty free, I found it really hard to find decently priced, decent skincare that I can get hold of easily so I've been trying out own labels, and honestly, they're fantastic for the most part. For instance, Krave looks really good but you can't walk into Boots and buy it, you have to send for it and pay import duties and wait 6 weeks so meh. Hada Labo hyaluronic acid is still my go-to, but now I mix it with a bunch of serums from The Ordinary that I know work for me. That way they're all in one bottle and I can pat them on and go. (Matrixyl, Arigelene, B5 and amino acids, HA, alpha arbutin). You're wincing, I can see it. Finish with the Beauty Bay oatmeal day cream. At night, it's simpler, because basically, I can't be arsed, but that's when the retinol goes on, 3 times a week. I've used sun protection all my life and now I'm really glad I did. Currently I'm using a spray on kiddie one from Superdrug. The kiddie ones are gentle, so yeah. And a big hat. Should say that my skin is old, like the rest of me, used to be greasy but now normal to dry, thick, so spots go really deep, but I don't get so many these days, textured in the T zone, dark shadows under my eyes which are the bane of my life, natural wrinkles which I worked really hard to earn, so sod Botox.
Personally, the YTP cleanser is my absolute favorite. I couldn't believe James didn't like it! But I get it, different strokes for different skin types :) I have mixed skin, usually on the oily side, but I occasionally have significant dry flaking skin in certain areas. That being said, I typically look for gentle products that can control the oil but won't dry out my face when it does get dry. The YTP has worked the best for me as long as I put a good moisturizer on those dry spots. I love the clean smell, light feel, and how it makes my face feel!
I started using Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo to wash my face and I’m loving it so much. It gets off light makeup well, doesn’t strip my face at all and my skin feels beyond soft. I don’t know if I will ever buy a face cleanser again.
With all the misinformation and sponsorships and deals a lot of other aesthetician and skincare "expert" youtubers have, the only people I trust now are labmuffinbeautyscience and james welsh.
James throws shade so nicely and politely!! I think that is why I come back so reliably... Having said that, the Inkey List SA serum is $10 for 1 ounce; the PC SA toner is $32 for 4 ounces (so cheaper per ounce). The PC SA in the 1-oz bottle that James showed in the uploaded photo is $10 US on US Amazon, so essentially the SAME price as the Inkey List product. I am often bemused at how many people look at product price rather than cost per ounce,. This makes sense if you want to TRY a product, but not necessarily if you need a product long-term. I cringed at paying the the PC price, but the trial size worked better for my skin than anything else. I am saying this as a 50 + yo still struggling with acne! SA products have gotten more of my money over the years than anything else, and PC is both worth the money and essentially the same cost as (and less irritating than) even most drugstore brands. And where I live in Alaska (USA) neither of them are locally available, so neither wins on accessibility.
I bought a Glow Recipe set at Sephora (online) that has the small size of niacinamide, a full size BHA/PHA toner and their watermelon moisturizer for $49 ♡ I can't wait to have it 😍
I bought Paula's choice 2 weeks ago and use it once a day in the evening. Why i did not find out about it earlier, so i wouldn't spend tons of money for other skin care. I really, really recommend you to buy it. I do not have crazy acne, my skin is a little bit dry, but PC is so gentle. It made skin texture smoother, rashes on the forehead disappeared, no redness after using it. I used acid toners and peels before, but nothing did such a magic like PC. Watermelon Glow Mask is also good. It really makes my skin fresh, and like glow from the inside.
Thank you for this video, it was very informative and interesting. I really appreciate your approach to the "dupes" debate, since in skincare there really aren't dupes. But you gave a good selection of different kind of products and good reviews. I think you could easily do just random product reviews and overviews, without a specific theme around them. There are so many products out there, so it's always useful to hear about them, even if they aren't something I'd want to buy. Product reviews always talk about ingredients, which is always informative and educational. So if you're feeling a bit unmotivated at the moment, you really don't have to do that much for great video :)
I loved the 20% azelaic acid you recommended from Dermitica - will be repurchasing. I hope they make more products and that your discount code will work ... forever ... 😂
A friend of mine gifted me a bottle of the Indie Lee Swiss Apple Facial Serum. While I think it works well, I have more noticeable results from The Ordinary Buffet. They don't have exact ingredients, but honestly I can stop using the Buffet for awhile, and when I go back to using it it makes my skin noticeably clearer, and smoother. Truly one of my favorite serums, and you don't have to spend $$$.
James, I need a skincare routine for old, dry, wrinkly, large pore skin. Not brands per say but like what to put on and when. I have a lot of skin care so likely I already have what I need but I don’t know when to apply the things.
Ooo I am already using the Inkey List! I layer the BHA under my skin care and it makes a difference for sure! I'm getting minor zits here and there from hormonal acne and from wearing a mask all day at work and it helps A LOT
Love the inkey list BHA serum. It has really cleared my skin to the point where I only have 1 or 2 spots occasionally and due to my own fault (nights out/mask area)
The Inkey List BHA serum is 30ml for 9.90 and the Paula’s Choice BHA exfoliant is 10 for the travel size which is also 30 ml, so I don’t know if it would count as a dupe but they’re both really great brands and at least they’re worth the money (looking at you BARBRA WHATSHERFACE as you so greatly put it). Thank you for your honest alleged opinion 😂
I had the opportunity to try a couple sample sizes of Skinceuticals C + E + Ferulic serum for free and yes it improves the look of your skin. There’s a MUCH less expensive dupe made by the brand “Timeless skincare”. It sounds crazy but I swear they made a *better* serum than the brand they’re emulating. Only problem is it’s a bit more irritating so you’re skin has to get used to it before you can use it every day
@@bslorbust I feel bad for everyone who’s payed full price for the Skinceuticals serum. I started using that Timeless serum after I ran out of my Skinceuticals samples because I heard it was good. I was surprised how much my skin improved when I switched over- my skin really likes it. I definitely don’t have perfect skin but this serum somehow keeps my skin looking beautifully bouncy and glowy in way that looks natural _(hard to explain but the Skinceuticals one didn’t do all that for me)_ It also faded a big stubborn dark mark I got from scratching/picking at a cat scratch that scabbed over. I’m kinda “addicted” to the product now because I feel like my skin looks ugly by comparison when I go more than few days without the 20% C + E + Ferulic serum
Another amazing dupe for the paulas choice SA toner is the La roche posay effaclar clarifying solution. It’s 2% glycolic acid and 0.5% salicylic acid toner. It’s mild enough to use everyday. It’s $15 but it lasts me around 8 months. Since I’ve been using this with my retina 0.01% I haven’t had a need to use any stronger exfoliating products.
Omg I feel the same way about the krave beauty cleanser that you feel about the yttp. Everyone loves it and nothing ever irritates my skin but the matcha hemp cleanser made all my products after burn so badly 😩

Do you guys recommend Paula's choice BHA over Cosrx BHA power liquid? I want to try a BHA out and James usually recommed those as the best ones he uses.
@@blackrose2647 the cosrx is better for sensitive skin imo
@@bluesisyphe the Paula's Choice BHA is amazing 👏😍
I’ve been loving the ELF cleansing balm! I usually don’t use fragrance but I don’t mind it in this product. $10 for an effective balm is so worth it to me!
Really love this content and would love to see more of this!
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️🙏🏼💜
Walmart's Earth to Skin Super Greens cleanser is also a great dupe for the YTTP cleanser!!
Thank youuu for recognizing that normal people get stressed about products over $30 😂. I hate seeing casual recommendations for products well out of range for most people. Like “oooh the la mer products” OKAY well that doesn’t help me or anyone I know so … lol
A dupe for SKii’s Pitera Essence would be literally any essence ever. Miss me with that $200 price tag.

@@apeachinrain yes, I'm wanting to try that. How are u liking it??
For HA, I'd go with Hada Labo lotions it's cheap, very hydrating and has different variants to choose & refills!! :D
For the YTTP, the Pacifica's Beauty Kale cleanser is amazing and calming and doesn't dries me out and it's only like $10
I really liked this video! 🇵🇷

for anyone that really likes the glossier milky cleanser but looking for a cheaper option - the beauty bay cleansing gel is amazing (even better imo) really gentle and soothing on the skin. also vegan and cruelty free!
also love the garnier spf 50 face fluid which is a more affordable dupe for la roche posay spf 50 fluid. garnier is now cruelty free too where as LRP sadly aren’t :(
YESSSSSS that cleanser is soooo good!
Is it possible to be cruelty free for garnier but not for lrp if they both belong to the same company? 🤔 I'm just curious
Also I agree with the Garnier uv fluid spf50. One of the best sunscreens in a drugstore, but the bottle is so tiny:(
@@em-cs3ow i thought that too tbh! there’s more info about it on cruelty free kitty which is more in depth
@@xsofxs2276 oh I'll look it up then. Thank you for a tip
Garnier (= loreal) isn't really cruelty free. Their products are cruelty free in Europe but they sell to China and there it's always tested on animals.
Finally, we drugstore bees have been heard ❤️❤️
My routine has slowly transitioned from CeraVe to the Inkey List! It's usually always in stock and slightly cheaper.
And the Inkey List is cruelty free! I think not enough people is aware that Cerave is not completely cruelty free.

If you’re ever interested in trying/reviewing some Aussie products, I would recommend:
- tribe skincare: Hydrate Me! Night Moisturizer (tad to fragrant for me) - newish brand (some room for improvement)
- Fluff CC - any of the face oil (my fave is #3) and they have some cool eco friendly ideas
- Ultra Violette: Queen Screen Lightweight skinscreen SPF 50+ (yes 50+)
Australia has lots to offer the skincare work 😘x
Did you see Aldi’s dupe brand of Glow Recipe? They just dropped it like 3 weeks ago.
I tried the avocado 🥑 retinol eye cream it’s so good ! And the packaging is so cute

Thank you James. This is a great video!
Can we all appreciate how good the hair looks 🥵
Let's not forget that doctor peddling that overpriced hyaluronic serum is an orthopedic, not a dermatologist. I suggest watching dr shereene idriss' video on hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is so 2018.
I DO have a favorite dupe! It's James Welsh (dupe of Robert Welsh and vice versa)! 💜🖤
These are the BEST dupes around! I highly recommend them! 🥰🥰
Does that imply Robert is the expensive, high maintenance twin?
You are such a beautiful human. You greatly deserve the healthy and glowing skin you have❤️

I'm living for this can we make it a series? And by we I, I mean you, thank you!
Yes 🙌 this is the kind of content I need.
With all the misinformation and sponsorships and deals a lot of other aesthetician and skincare "expert" youtubers have, the only people I trust now are labmuffinbeautyscience and james welsh.

Lovely way to end the afternoon at Dr. Have a great evening James X💜
Yesss sorry I never passed maths at school or college haha. And failed to work out basic maths here too!
I bought a Glow Recipe set at Sephora (online) that has the small size of niacinamide, a full size BHA/PHA toner and their watermelon moisturizer for $49 ♡ I can't wait to have it 😍
Omg I hope you love it 😍😍
@@JamesWelsh 💜💜💜💜
I bought Paula's choice 2 weeks ago and use it once a day in the evening. Why i did not find out about it earlier, so i wouldn't spend tons of money for other skin care. I really, really recommend you to buy it. I do not have crazy acne, my skin is a little bit dry, but PC is so gentle. It made skin texture smoother, rashes on the forehead disappeared, no redness after using it. I used acid toners and peels before, but nothing did such a magic like PC.
Watermelon Glow Mask is also good. It really makes my skin fresh, and like glow from the inside.
This video just reminded me why I love you so much, its so effortlessly funny yet informative...love from Kenya.

Your background is everything james😍😍😭😭As always, such a good video💜💜💜

"Clinique, I'm looking at you" lol
Yes!!! Who doesnt love a great price for a product that actually works😊😊
yesss Paula's choice saved my life
James, I need a skincare routine for old, dry, wrinkly, large pore skin. Not brands per say but like what to put on and when. I have a lot of skin care so likely I already have what I need but I don’t know when to apply the things.
Thanks for answering our poor people prayers James ✨
Ooo I am already using the Inkey List! I layer the BHA under my skin care and it makes a difference for sure! I'm getting minor zits here and there from hormonal acne and from wearing a mask all day at work and it helps A LOT
Love the inkey list BHA serum. It has really cleared my skin to the point where I only have 1 or 2 spots occasionally and due to my own fault (nights out/mask area)
The Paula's choice BHA is one of the very few products I will spend more than $20 on
The cleanser stripped my skin too! I returned it and with my dry skin I can’t afford to use anything that dries me out even more
this is highly off topic but im living for the color scheme in the back
"barbra whats her face" I see u, James 👀🤣😂
Really love this vid james, please make more on drugstore products!
Your description “Dr. Barbra what’s her face.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣☠️
I had the same issue with the Youth to the People cleanser! I have very oily skin and was surprised how crazy it stripped my skin

Only problem is it’s a bit more irritating so you’re skin has to get used to it before you can use it every day
Timeless vit c is the perfect dupe for skinceuticals.
@@bslorbust
I feel bad for everyone who’s payed full price for the Skinceuticals serum.
Looooove it!!! 200 ml and it lasts for months. If you wait for sales, it can be about 9'95 (€🤗).
