- Today we are installing a set of Swag Off-road body mounts. These were sooooo easy and make for a great beginner welding project. The low hanging body mounts on the Jeep TJ are a big problem if you enjoy a lot of rocks or time off road. Today we fix this problem once and for all! Enjoy and stay creative!

Muddy got ya beat on the painting though ;). I liked how he taped off the weld area and painted them. Then finish welded them on the frame and finished painting. I totally get what you mean about all the paint being rubbed off the next day haha.

Have you thought about making a video on replacing the center body mount tub sections for those people that need to replace them from rust? I have seen a company that makes frame and tub replacement panels to make the job even easier.

I'd love to have your expertise for laying out my build that I'm doing on my 2004 4.0 TJ Sahara, I have learned a ton from your videos but I have a long way to go on slowly building up my jeep while being full-time in college. My biggest purchase and upgrade so far has been my GenRight Aluminum Highlines which I was able to install after fighting quite a bit with the hood haha! Wanting to dana 44 swap, do a 3.5" suspension with 1" body low COG build on 37s, maybe 40's someday but it is my daily, so I'm trying to keep it driving nice.
Not gonna lie, I thought you were talking about Portal Axles. 😢 I was excited to see you add that to the Jeep. But these body mounts make sense.

Great job and good tip on fitting them before tacking them together to account for vehicle variances.
Have you tried Dupli-color satin black wheel paint? I use it on most of the brackets I make - interior and exterior. It is very good for irregular surfaces because it dries quickly and doesn't run. It's tough, too.

Looks like you took the body lift pucks off and mounted the new brackets higher. Having less leverage on the body bolts will help bending along with the design of the new brackets

Why not build brackets that incorporate your body mounts and extend out too also be your rock sliders? Then with skid plates covering front to back and from the outer edge all the way to the frame. The first down side I could see is the weight. Your thoughts?

Makes me wonder why they don't do things like this at the factory . If you ever want to do a video series on swapping a solid axle into a Blazer, I'd be willing to let you use mine for the demo. ;)
Wonder if something like this could be done on the LR Disco 1. The rockers and suspension/body mounts hang pretty low. I’m cutting what’s left of my rockers off and turning them into sliders/rocker panels.
Get yourself a squegee on a broom handle, then you can easily clean liquid spills or wash the floor

So I've been watching your channel for a couple weeks now. Kinda binge watching, with everything you do, why don't you own a lift??? I do, and it make fabricating certain items, and welding overhead so much nicer

Yes sir! It had a 1"body lift so I just removed the 6 center pucks for extra clearance 👍

Hey man, you should really look into a set of boatside rockers. I have the version made by Dave's Customs Unlimited and they're a game changer for rocker area clearance.
I've been planning on building a set for years, just haven't gotten there yet 👍
@@DirtLifestyle Dave's only charges $300 for their set, which makes it really hard to beat that price when you consider the substantial material and time cost of building them yourself. The install is definitely tricky.

Would've been the perfect time to toss in some fresh body bushings. Other wise great video and something I've looked at doing myself for some time now.
These are still in great shape! The chassis on has 54k miles lol

I couldn't see you welding your parts on to the frame, do you weld your brackets going up or going down?

I welded going down. My machine is auto set so I just put in 1/4" .035 wire and it did the rest. I used the 1/4" setting because I like to weld hot and move my puddle fast when welding vertical 👍
So I have a question if you where to do it over would you still do the tdi swap? Clearly more usable power in the appropriate area over the stock 4.0 but was it really worth it? If so is there anything you would do differently?

Does the heat from the welder effect the frames rigidity? Also when welding on a vehicle should you disconnect the battery first, to save the computer? Thx
It should of effect the structure of the frame as much as the old mounts did. Good or bad 👍 I don't disconnect the battery before welding.
Cool video Nate. I have a body mount nutsert that is spinning that is holding a cheapo nerf bar rock slider on my TJ which has kissed many rocks and needs to be upgraded. Do you recommend cutting a hole in the body to get to the nutsert or something else?
I haven't had to fix this problem so unfortunately I don't have any advise on the subject 👍
So how long did the "two hour" project really take?
And how long would it have been without the cameras?
I could knock this out in 2 hrs with no cameras easy. But with cameras I started between 5 and 6 in the morning and finished the edit around 11 at night. Then I went out to the shop to do a quick coat of paint 👍

So, across the top, on the frame, is there no weld across it? I know the rest of the welds will hold it, but my old would want that welded also.
I welded the top from inside the bracket 👍
Next upgrade - Trench Drain in front of garage door.
Just curious, what about the top seam on the bracket/ chassis and under the body? I would have thought that it would be an important weld. Curious minds want to know! Kind regards,

Not sure man, many folks have projects that take years to complete. The low buck diesel truck is i. That category to me. I will continue chipping away at it but I have some other projects that have priority. Slowly but surely it will be completed 👍
