Hiya bud recently subscribed to your channel I'm from the UK SuperWinch is well was a UK based company and brand iv got a couple of their winches but the winch that you are using in this episode doesn't look like any of the winches they have on the market here I was wondering if it's a case of it's similar to the warn as you said in construction and then sold under a different licence or something similar also do you know what motor is in it because over here the EP9 or EP9.5 you can get a bigger motor for not that much called a Bow motor there are 3 models 1, 2, and 2+ they used to do a 3 but have stopped using it now but the Bow 2+ turns the EP9 and similar into a hell of a setup and quite fast aswell
I'm in AU and loving these from scratch Fab eps dude... the hoop looks really good as you did it (super neat) - but one thing I noticed, you cant get the winch out to service it without pulling the whole bar off. The method to my madness is the harder to get to it, equals less likely to happen and with service parts thats not a good thing.
Nice message about energy transfer...too many bumpers get built that will transfer a high amount of energy to the passenger compartment. Looks good, can't wait to see the next one on this build!
My favorite part about your videos is the fact that you set the example that it’s okay to take a step back and give your thoughts time to form. You go into a project partially blind and let it take shape on its own. Your breakdown of the basic fabricating principles is what I’m learning the most of from you.. Huge Thank you from me to you.
I use CAD to figure up what the bumper is going to look like - Cardboard Aided Design. Cut the cardboard into the shapes of the bumper and (tape) tack it together. Quick and easy to change the design with a razor blade and tape. Get it sorted, then cut it apart and use it as template on the steel.
I definitely slid box tube into the channel in the front of my ZJ. With a little bit of careful measuring and slotting and a bit of persuasion from a large hammer, I got that tube about a foot deep. Then I clamped the sheet metal on both sides with some 1/4in plate and five 9/16 grade 8 bolts all the way through. It would take an act of god to pull my front bumper off my ZJ. And believe me, I've tried. I also cut that front "bumper"/cross member out and recessed my winch as far back as I could. It is about 1/4in from the AC condenser. I cut the bottom of the grill off to fit the winch. I also pulled out the radiator support and replaced it with a much stronger one that I made and bolted that up through the box tube inside the frame rails. My approach angle was MASSIVELY improved. It is the best approach angle possible on a ZJ while only running 33s.
watching your vids from BC, I'm a firm believer in fabricating projects properly, if it takes a little longer, who cares, the satisfactory result is all that matters.
No need at all to apologize for not being able to finish the bumper in one video. Most youtubers would take 5 to 10 videos to get done what you did in this one video. Keep up the good work.
Glad you mentioned the bumper absorbing energy in a crash. I know it’s rare, but it’s smart. Manufactures have made leaps and bounds in crash test standards over just the last 20-30 years so it’s good to acknowledge that for ones safety. Definitely makes me reconsider the Liberty.
Hi Nate. I fully understand your need to step back and work out your plans to finish the front of this build. I'm building a project I've wanted to get started for several years now. Its a 1962 Ford Ranchero body sitting on a 1984 Ford Ranger 4X4 (I have two of these). Talk about going down a Rabbit Hole!!!! The Complete Ranger chassis, engine and running gear is being used. That means I have to use the Ranger floorboard, 85% of the firewall, radiator core support, steering column, pedals etc. lots of planning measuring and fabrication and modification just to attach this body. Once I have it together and road worthy, I will build front and rear bumpers similar to your designs. This is my retirement project. Wish me luck. Thanks for your videos, insight and inspiration.
I had a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade in my past and it had a BDS suspension lift kit. Wish I found the channel when I had it. My Liberty needed to have a better bumper. I like the design and function of the bumper as well as the Skid plate. I took it off road at AOAA and Rausch Creek in PA. My tire choice was BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 and they worked great. Thank you for a great video.
I am beyond stoked to see this video! As a liberty owner (and lover) this is really giving me great ideas for bumper. Can't wait to see whats next. And yea I agree about the chrome. That was the first thing I did when I bought mine, got ride of all the chrome changed it to black. These are such capable jeeps, the places I've taken mine so far blow my mine. Thanks for inspiring me! Washer fluid container - common solution most of use do is pull it out, cut the neck off, plastic weld it to be way shorter and shove it in the engine bay. It fits nicely (at least on the 3.7L engine model)
Great looking bumper and great ideas behind the build. I like your comment about not being a drawer, my son and I do a lot of projects together. He is a drawer and I am not a drawer, so he hates it when I say "Trust me, It will turn out great". Nate, you are definitely one of the people on my, Bucket list of people to meet in person.
Beautiful bumper. It will hold up in an accident. If you don’t want the unibody to tweak in an accident, reinforce the two main rails you tied the bumper into. 1/8” material, 3/4” tall to make a “spine” on the rails. Take the spine past the firewall. I did it to my sister’s Liberty. It’s held up to stumps & stones.
Wow, 8 days. I always love your videos but man, that’s something else. I appreciate how you pushed pause on the build; that only comes with the experience of pushing too hard and screwing something up.
You need the Old Man Emu lift for the CRD! OME 790 front springs and OME 948 rear with their front struts and 132L rear shocks, and bumpstops. Then you can build your own brake line extension for the rear. You and your wife will love it, esp off road!! We have built over 400 Liberties and a ton of CRD KJs.
Good for you, putting your creativity and end product quality over satisfying some viewers. Who you are, what you do, is very unique and much appreciated. Thank you for setting a good example, going the extra mile to create something you'll be proud of every time you see, instead of regretful. Great channel, keep it up!
i think a paint matched powdercoat would be cool. although expensive i think it would fit the liberty, the liberty doesnt strike me as a agressive offroader and i dont think something rugged like bedliner would fit it.. ive seen alot of paint matched arb bull bars and it looks really good.
As always, it’s so enjoyable watching someone that genuinely enjoys creating something from nothing! I can’t wait to see how the bumper turns out. Keep the awesome videos coming Nate!
I have Hemi WK. It is the family rig. I do all the work on it and make as much custom parts as I can. I plan to build my own winch bumper and this was a great watch.
Slick work. I love your creativity. I am no where near as good as you but I fabbed up my own battery tray from my old 79 K20 last weekend. I look halfway decent and is solid and a rock so that make me happy. I was definitely inspired by you.
Hey man, sometimes you just need time. There have been many times where I had to put a project to the side and work on something else because I hit the proverbial brick wall. Do what you gotta do, brother. We'll be here. Heck, consider this a cliffhanger. Lol. In the meantime, would love to see that tailgate build on the Dodge. Just a thought.
I would love to see this project finished. My elderly father gave my 15-year-old son his 2005 liberty because he can't drive anymore. It has a 2-3 inch lift on it, a rear locker, and off-road tires. My dad used it for years to explore the desert in southern Utah. We (my son and I) wanted to put a winch on it and try to toughen up the grocery-getter look a little bit, plus make it functional so he can use it for some moderate off-roading with me. The only commercial bumper that we can find for it is a behemoth that ARB makes, I hate the way it looks plus they want $1300 +/- for it, I can't justify that amount of money for a bumper when the car probably isn't even worth that much. I really like how yours looked and I was thinking I may attempt to fabricate one similar to it. I've been waiting to see an update video of the finished product but I recently saw a video you posted of a new(ish) Disco that you bought for your wife so I'm thinking I may be SOL on the finished liberty bumper. If you still own the liberty and have the desire to make a video of the completed bumper I would love to see it.
Kudos to you SIR that is AN AWESOME Bumper that you build for the Liberty!! My wife has an 05 Liberty Limited that she loves and I have been thinking about giving it a little love and upgrading a few things since its been a REAL good Car for her but she told me a few weeks ago that she wants to give the Liberty of her niece that is heading to college this fall. I got a 2020 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the Hemi that my wife wants to trade me for a New Gladiator of my choice (Rubicon or Mojave) and since the Mojaves are JUST now hitting the dealerships time will tell. I must say YOU have some MAD SKILLS!!!!
This is probably one of my favorite bumpers you have made.. love the prerunner look! Cracked me up how you said sorry for having to cut it short.. a 20 min video with good content. I once again appreciate the good content and love what your doing.. But now you gotta make a rear tire carrier bumper.. lmao
Rock on dude. Yea, I wanted this video to be an hour long. You are how I chill from a bad day at work. So thank you for that. But I realize a lot of your audience has "A.D.D.", and can't watch a video that long. Looking forward to the final product.
I think the bumper would look really good with those fog lights recessed inside of those 2 large flat plates on the front of the bumper. I'm not sure if you have the space behind there or if you even like that look but I figure it's worth putting in my 2 cents. Great video 👍
You are one clever dude , your design is spot on and the skid plate looks killer . The dimple dies add a real baja look . Looking forward to the finished product . Keep the sparks flying !
Nate- Don’t mention it. I need to buy/build a new winch bumper. The one I have is bent. Seeing your process, I may just build a bumper that will hold up vs spending absurd money on a replacement
Sweet build! you're lucky to have the time to stay true to yourself/your ideas. If you can make a Liberty look and function well, you can make anything!
the bumper turned out awesome! I wish I had the guts to do that to the front of my Chevy Silverado. Because I want to put a winch on the front, but i have no solid place to fasten it. I saw this after you gave it to your brother and finished the build pretty much recently. Which I thought turned out awesome! Glad I got to see this part.
I build stuff on my channel and the feeling is great once you see the finished project. My last task was a bumper hitch grill and flatbed with skirts for my Silverado 3500hd. Now I want a front bumper project.
Nice bumper build!! We have a 2006 Liberty CRD with ~150k miles. Unfortunately it has a fuel problem - low fuel rail pressure. I will be pulling the CP3, injectors and fuel rail and sending them to Oregon Fuel Injection for testing. Very few places in this country are interested in doing any kind of work on these CRDs. At 48k miles I loaded a GDE Full torque tune that disabled the EGR. At 60k miles, I removed all the EGR pieces/parts and installed an in-tank fuel pump (2006 Dodge Ram diesel) and a 2 micron Racor fuel filter head. At 100k miles, I replaced the timing belt, rocker arms with newer design and installed head studs. My wife and I really like driving our CRD, but it hasn't been an economical vehicle to own. It get's good fuel economy, but the cost of upgrades and repairs have been high. Also, If you are considering a suspension lift, check into JBA Offroad. I installed a set of his front upper control arms that have replaceable ball joints. The quality is outstanding.
Nate as a welder/fabricator that works on plenty of vehicles you should always use a battery isolator when welding on a vehicle could save frying the computer
I like the fact that you take impact into consideration when designing your bumper. This is my issue with most of the aftermarket ones. They’re so heavy, they’ll end up bending the frame.
This looks awsome! Kinda wanna do one for my escape, but that's supposed to be my grocery getter. Just a quick thing I noticed was the bar is only tacked even once the rest of the bumper is welded. It's an awsome project just did want anything missed. Take your time, love watching these videos because it reminds gives me motivation to get back into off roading and truck stuff, thank you so much.
A 2003 jeep liberty was the first vehicle i ever had. 2wd so i never got to modify it. But man you make that bumper look better than anything ive seen for them.
Awesome bumper build! Much cheaper than the ARB I installed on my Daughter's 06. Rocky Road Outfitters is who I used for a 3" lift on my Daughters 06 Liberty. It's built by them, not gonna lie the front was a pain to install. Glad we went this route it performs great.
Curious if you ever worry about how big a winch is compared to open area of radiator? I always wanted to build tube fenders and bumpers for my CRD Liberty, but it got to the point where it was too expensive to maintain for me. Only built one bumper, and that was with my dad. He's not really a hot rodder/car guy type, but he totally nailed the whole thing like you said making sure the bumper had a little ability to absorb some impact in its design (via collapse) in the event of an actual street accident. Going to love following this one! Also, no shame in ending the project where you did. I would have done the same. Ever since my time as a kid building model cars, I learned how sometimes I get more excited about getting something done, that the final result isn't as great as it could have been with a little patience. I was the one with finger prints in the paint of the model car. So I'm pretty good now at listening to my internal clock, but still not perfect.
I have no issue with breaking the video up. Looking forward to seeing prerunner bumper build Part 2. For recovery points the WK uses hooks that attach to the bottom of bolts just like that liberty has. Something like that may be an option to look into.
Great job love the look of it great video content and I hope you know how many of us are out there that love to build from what in our head and some time you have to just take a step back and recharge and clear your head so we can get a fresh start at it . Thanks again Keep up with the great content !!
That look awesome! I need to build an off-road bumper for my Ranger. Might take a couple dealing ideas here. Glad your being honest with yourself in the finish of this one, makes for a not rushed finish. Look forward to the next vid.

How much for detailed plans for that bumper?I have a 2005 liberty with 3inch lift can't afford the arb bumper($1400)yours looks just as good as theirs
I like this motivation. Thank you. Just finished cleaning up the shop, maybe I’ll get into it this summer.

How to be awesome
1 - Weld as good as Nate
2 - Design cool things like him
3 - Be organized like him
I think I have a chance on number two
Lol awesome
Also have a tube bender like him lol
Love that you’re tackling IFS stuff too - 4Runner owner
I like IFS! It is way under rated! I might custom fab my own center section and lift. Time will tell 👍
@@DirtLifestyle Do it :) I'd love to see that!!!!!
Next thing you know he'll be working on fully independent rigs :P
I belive Jaguars had dana 44 rear diffs with flanged outputs instead of tubes if your going to do a rear independent
After watching the KOH Ultra4 trucks tear it up I am really interested in IFS stuff too.
Nice message about energy transfer...too many bumpers get built that will transfer a high amount of energy to the passenger compartment. Looks good, can't wait to see the next one on this build!
Came here to post this. Bumpers are supposed to sacrifice themselves.
Scrolls down, looking for comment about energy absorption... ah, here we are. This. 100% this. It's a safety feature, not a battering ram.
When I worked in the body industry, they were referred to as "damage multipliers."
Great video. Im building bumpers and repeatedly referring back to your bumper builds. Thank you.
This dude is an artist. And crazy knowable.

I know nothing of welding, fabrication, or even off roading(yet) but I can't stop watching your videos..
Keep them videos comin'! 👍
15:50 ish. The bumper is done
My eye looking at the single tac on the top bar: are you sure about that
exactly my thoughts
The liberty is an interesting vehicle, a GREAT Mercedes German made engine which is bullet proof and the basic hardware of a great 4wd
watching your vids from BC, I'm a firm believer in fabricating projects properly, if it takes a little longer, who cares, the satisfactory result is all that matters.
I love that you're doing this to a liberty
Also bender on the bender for the win 👊
Thanks bro 👊
I was gonna say that also -Bender on the bender

That bumper looks fantastic, the tube on top really brings it together. Keep up the awesome work mate.
I think you are the best fabricator and video maker here on youtube. I love your videos and builds.
Glad you mentioned the bumper absorbing energy in a crash.
I know it’s rare, but it’s smart.

Agreed , have them look like they are one with the bumper. But couldn't agree more awesome build to come!
Yeah, Nate, you got some skills man, in building, and in filmmaking. Love watching you fabricate. Also, the Bender on the bender, that's fantastic.

Nice build! Looks great with the skid plate.
Your videos have really been motivating me to build things for my Jeep. Keep em going!
Nice work. Beautiful look with the skid plate. Cant wait to see this project done.

Looking forward to seeing it completed, keep up the excellent work 👍
Thank you!
Nate, I love your builds and the fact that you want to do it right, which takes time. Be sure to show us the final bumper when completed!
Thanks buddy 🤘
How much you wanna bet this Jeep Liberty is going to go from, "small bumper upgrade" to a full blown "rock crawler" in about 6-months?
Lol
Put some Dana 44s under this thing.
Your prediction came true!
I would DEFINITELY not put money on that kind of bet.
Fabulous job, Nate! I love how it just came together piece by piece. Two thumbs up man!
Thanks man 👍
First car I ever owned 2003 Jeep Cherokee (Liberty) ltd 3.7L V6 petrol, absolutely loved this car! Exited to see how yours turns out.
С большим удовольствием смотрю твои ролики, в руках мастера все легко и просто, удачи тебе брат, большой привет из России Байкал
Well done Sir. Will be waiting on the next video on this.
Thank you Nate. Badass bumper. 👏👊👍
Thanks buddy 🤘
Great video! I love the look of it! I need to build one for my 2nd gen Cummins and my wife’s Lexus GX470.
Bumper looks great! Good discipline in stepping back to properly assess. I don’t do that enough and then my project is a constant WTF did I do!!
Lol thanks man
Yes! Great video, as always. Looking forward to the next
Thank you for making this video! Love it!
Thanks again
Keep up with the great content !!
I want a master of all things garage!!!
Wow this is coming together really well. An awesome job as always.
That look awesome! I need to build an off-road bumper for my Ranger. Might take a couple dealing ideas here. Glad your being honest with yourself in the finish of this one, makes for a not rushed finish. Look forward to the next vid.
Good work man keep it up
Looks great! Nice job, sir.
Looking good so far... totally agree and it's why I enjoy your buids. Looking forward to seeing the progress of the project.
