  • Episode 3 of the LBP XJ Cherokee project - A front winch bumper is built for the LBP Cherokee. A Smittybuilt XRC 9500 winch is installed on it. The rear bumper and gas tank skidplate are also painted.

    My Dad drummed it into my head that there is never enough time to do something right, but there's always time to do something over🤔.

    You had me at xj bumper build, up until the part where I heard re-routing the trans cooler lines, at that moment I knew only mall crawlers have auto-magic transmissions lol jk great vid and fab skills and ideas 👍👍

    I was an apprentice at a welding fabrication shop about 2 months ago and i used it as an opportunity to custom make my xj's front/ back bumper and custom rocker panels. Having knowledge in fabrication and welding can help put a lot if you dont wanna empty your pockets.

    Beautiful work my friend! You got skills. I would like to see a bar up and across the winch to protect it and ad some mounts to the top side of the cross bar for some kc lights.

    Enjoyed all 3 videos. Makes me want to buy another truck so I can make bumpers for it! Haha
    My dad and I made a rear bumper for my e350. Weighs about 300lbs but that was the goal for a 1-ton. Thanks for the videos!

    A nice shop and all the right tools....and plenty of room to work....makes ALL the difference in the world. It's hard to get in the right state of mind on projects like this when you're cramped for space and do not have the fabrication tools necessary.

    Nice work, very similar to what I had originally planned. I tried to sell my rough country bumper but had to luck so I ended up just modifying it. I probably will end up building one eventually.

    That is a "clean" front bumper for a winch to put on my 88 MJ.. I have an Ole school warn 10K winch that I am looking at mounting and this gave me the right idea on how to do it. Thanks

      @@2drx4 I am trying to do this without spending too much money so I went with Zone's 4.5 inch lift with the full rear leaf set. I have been scanning Cherokee experts on RUclips and about a year ago ran across Cherokee Ron that's all about low dollar builds. He recommended Zone for budget and BDS if money was no object. Zone is owned by the same company that makes BDS and I guess their stuff is all made in North America.
      I live in Minnesota so I get the northern climate lifestyle.
      Your explanations are top notch. If it is okay I think I will copy your front and rear bumper design. Best I have seen so far!

      I think you'll be happy with that lift, Zone does seem to be bang for the buck quality. Go right ahead and copy anything you like, be sure to take some pictures or make a movie and share what you've done!

      I find doing the narration in post helps to keep the videos cleaner and quicker. But it's a back and forth thing... Lots of learning to do with the whole videos thing. I'll go check your channel out!

    Looks good , someday when I win the lottery I’m going to do this to my 89 Comanche, only ever needed a winch a few times since 1991 when I got it, but after a short swim and 1/2 ton chevy and a 3/4 Ford I was out, then I had to pull them out. Damn that was embarrassing.

    Not a fan of the torque wrench skills, but the craftsmanship is outstanding. Starting an xj build for my daughter and looking for inspiration. This is what i want, but with a stinger bar. Strong, quality, and low profile design.

    Nice work! Do you plan to add a top bar above the winch for protection and light mount? Also, what about a skid plate? Would you tie that to the bumper or stand alone?

    i have a 1996 jeep cherokee xj does the dana 35 rear end suppose to have thrust washers behind the spider gears or can i run it without them mine didnt have any when i pulled it out while replacing rear axle bearing and seals
