- Building a weld it yourself bumper kit for my Toyota Pickup rock crawler! This kit is from NWTI, Northwest Trail Innovations, and comes with all the pieces you need to build your own custom off-road front plate bumper for your 4x4 truck, as well as tube for the stinger and side braces, and huge 3/4" thick shackle mounts. We also install a frame reinforcement plate to support this bumper and if we ever use it as a recovery point or install a winch, since the factory frame is pretty weak right there. Finally I have full body armor!
Specs on the truck:
► 1988 Toyota Pickup
► 22RE and W56
► SAS with an 83 front axle, gussetted and trussed (straight axle swap)
► Chromoly 30 spline axles, longfields (front and rear)
► 5.29 gears, triple drilled flanges, etc
► Rear locker, yukon Grizzly: amzn.to/3upkBm6
► Dual transfer cases, 2.28 and 4.70
► 37x12.50x17 Cooper Discoverer STT PRO
► NWTI front bumper, Trail-Gear sliders, custom rear bumper
► Thick wall driveshafts
► 4" lift front and rear

I like it, when I saw it was a kit I was surprised because it looks similar to my home built bumper. I built mine around my 8274 and custom cut every panel out of plate. Also I was just like you in that I wasn't a welder but I taught myself and literally built my entire rig without a single person helping me. That gives me a good amount of pride😎
Thing looks incredible.. it's always the best having friends that can help out!
Looks good. They also make a nice rear diy bumper.
Nice work. Good clean production grade blends on those welds.
It’s a Yota round up!
Gotta love it.... I’m liking that bumper but I need one to accommodate a Warn 8274
Damn it man
Hell yeah!
Came out very nice, I was wondering if something this large could be powder coated?
Simple, strong and good looking 😊
Love the first gens in this video and the second gen
🤙🤙🤙
Those are some good buddies you have 🎉
Love the editing and slo mo in this video! Looks badass 😎
❤
Sick bumper bro this Toyota pickup looks amazing now. Good video and great content keep it up.
Thanks!!
Great and Lovely work mate 👏
I also built my own one few weeks ago but differently
I have pretty much the same bumper on my 2013 subaru outback 3.6
Great video. I’m leaning towards this bumper for my truck. Is there a reason you didn’t weld the shackle mounts to the front piece? Seems like they would be significantly stronger.
it's beautiful
Toyota 🔥
Great looking bumper I have a 94 Toyota that's exactly the bumper I would like to have on my truck .would you have plans on how to build it
I leave the welds on everything the only time I grind is when I have to plate over
Considering cost of a prefab tube bumper vs this diy plate bumper. Would you do it again?
I love that bumper! I hit up NWTI if they would freight to Australia!
It looks so good! What did they say?
@@RM_Garage he hasn't replied yet. But hopefully it won't break the bank ha ha
Hopefully they reply!
Watching from philippines
Sick
What brand and model welder did you use? thought I saw a Hobart in a shot
id love to do this, but i don’t know how i’ll figure out the turn signal situation, i have a 88 4runner and i have separate bottom turn signals from the headlights on the stock bumper. Lmk if anyone knows how i’d fix that to still be legal.
You forgot to weld the front of the D rings
I'm gonna build front and rear steel bumbers for a VW Caddy. Nobody does it
How can you tell your buddy was prior military? (Buddy working for pizza smiles)
Does it just bolt onto where the old bumper mounts are?
yep!
That is the nicest plate bumper I have seen yet for an older Toyota. I noticed you guys used a Hobart Mig welder. Was it 110 or 220V welder? Just curious what level of a mig welder is needed for the welding.
Thanks Mike! I also like the look of this bumper more than any other I've seen. We were running on 220.
Gap from grill to bumper and the gap from fenders to bumper is way to big
Where are you gonna mount your blinkers?
I plan to tie them into the existing running lights
@@RM_Garage do you just splice the wires into it?
Is that 4wd logo from a Mitsubishi Mighty Max?
Not sure, it came on the truck and the mounting holes lined up perfectly so I assumed it came with it. Though, I have never seen another Toyota with one, so maybe?
Be more confident, came out good though
Welds should never need to be ground unless your welding for the food or medical industry
That’s not entirely true, for non industrial fabrication some seams don’t need all the reinforcement. And welds are only as good as the material, no point in having quarter inch reinforcement on 3/16th plate.but I will agree he should have beveled the joints but he’s going for a smooth look
