Seiko Sumo SPB125J1 Darth Sumo - can it rule the galaxy?

- Today we take a look at the Seiko SPB125J1, also known as the Darth Sumo or Ninja Sumo.
Part of a 2020 Limited Edition trio, the all-black Sumo features an all-black look (duh?). This is a Gen3 Sumo which houses the 6R35 movement, and upgrades such as sapphire crystal and a more matured font on the bezel.
Stealthy watches are always cool but I wonder if the PVD coating will stand up to regular wear.
At the end of it all, I would think that a more regular steel Sumo is a better choice.
Special thanks to Hour Boutique for loaning the watch. Eric, you rock!

I have mine arriving today. I wonder how this watch works with various coloured straps / nato straps. I love the dial and the clean stealthy look of this. It’s my first seiko divers. Great review by the way 👍🏼
Thanks for dropping by. It’s a great start to your Seiko journey by getting this. Congrats!
Pretty sure this won’t be your last Seiko. Enjoy!
Great review buddy!!! Definitely influenced my recent purchase - thanks for your time!!
Thanks for dropping by! I sure hope you found this helpful.
Awesome review. You covered it all with details. I'm one soon. Thank you
Thanks for the kind words. Hope you enjoy your new watch when it arrives.
Date ring with white text on black background would be a nice change
Totally agree on that.
I totally agree Seiko lume is top-notch, which guides me in darkness to the bathroom when I need to pee at night...and it’s a perfect Rambo watch that looks uber cool when shooting a gun😎
Seiko lume definitely sets the standard. Super stuff.
@@AndyinSG And I love looking at the long rectangular lume on my Samurai, which I think is more handsome than the circular dot on most dive watch👍🏻
@@nickchang5293 I love all the Seiko lume all the same. Round, rectangular, even tiny plods, as long as they light up bright and nice. 😺
@@AndyinSG Well said, bro...and meaning you like them tall, short, slim or round, as long as they have the same bright smile that lights up your night😁
@@nickchang5293 whoa! Hahaha. I really can’t comment on that. Need to avoid my channel being taken down. 😹
Nice watch. I just hate the gap between the strap and case. I guess that’s why I always buy watches with bracelets.
The gap is significantly bigger on the Sumo. Other watches have a better tolerance for straps.
I sold my green Sumo because it feels too heavy on bracelet, and left me without strap option due to the lug gap.
@@AndyinSG Yeah, some straps fit tighter but seems like most just go straight across the lugs and leave a gap.
@@zacharyparis I guess we’ll have to look at other watches if we prefer straps over bracelet.
Expensive Watch but very Beautiful Gorgeous watch i will buy that Seiko Sumo Black
Can it be bought in India
Not so sure about that. You might want to check with your local dealers, or look at internet dealers.
which one is better Tissot T-Sport Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 Blue Dial Black Rubber or Seiko Prospex SPB125J1 Automatic Black Series? and what is the price of the item
Between these two you mentioned, I would go for the black Sumo.
Here in Singapore, it goes for around $900.
What's your wrist size? Can you tell us the circumference and wing span?
My wrist is 17cm. Case size is 45mm with about 52mm lug-to-lug.
Sorry. I meant was the circumference and wing span of your wrist.
@@nelsonongteleng2789 Ah... it’s 17cm circumference with a 51mm wingspan.
my wrist is about 16.7cm, after all this time do you think this watch stillt too big??
You could definitely wear this watch. It wouldn’t look cartoonish.
It’s more of preference. Are you into the bulky big watch look? Or do you prefer something slimmer and lighter?
For me I tend to go for smaller watches these days so I will not look at Sumo.
@@AndyinSG yeah i look at the mirror and i dont think it wasn't that big, but i have seiko 5 watch srpd65k and i guess i prefer the smaller size around 38-42mm
@@kevin-sj3wt If you prefer 38-42mm, then I guess look at the 63Mas instead.
tell me the price sir
Typically around $900 sgd?
Been using SPB125J1 for about 2 months.
Honestly, it’s a nice watch and keeps great time BUT, I’m NOT happy with lume as it doesn’t last in the dark compare to SKX models.
Surprised that the lume on this isn’t as strong. Maybe it’s that creamy look/colour that is less potent.
@@AndyinSG Agreed. The lume immidetaly becomes super bright with the interaction of LED light/direct sunlight which is pretty cool for any lume lover but the brightest lume only lasts about 1 minute and you'll have a hard time noticing the overall dial (also the sec, min, hour) because of the very low visibility of the dimmed lume right after 10 to 20+- minutes.
The result is also the same even if you wear it all day long on a sunny day. LOVE the 6R35 caliber but am very DISAPPOINTED with the lume as a day-to-day user.
@@RifayetUday Rather disappointing to hear Seiko lume not up to expectations. It’s good that you share your experience here with others. Thanks.
Potential shoppers/buyers of this model, please take note that the creamy lume here isn’t exactly the brightest.
@@AndyinSG Thanks so much again.
BTW, my limited edition serial number is 5425/7000 ( ;
Hi.. how if compare with tissot seastar 1000?
Design-wise, I’d rate the Samurai higher.
Quality-wise, I think the new Tissots with the Powermatic movements are really strong contenders.
Over all, I still think the Seiko divers have more “ooomph” in general.
