1:37 the change in grit from this part and about 10 seconds after is amazing! I have been a fan of Casey since I saw him on American Idol. I live for the times that he changes his singing from calm and innocent to a gritty "anger." The suspense is built up and then he just growls and lets it all out, what a true performer!

Love how unpretentious Casey's voice is! No overdone vibrato to get in the way of the emotion! Man, I wish it had a bass solo in it though. A+

He is one of very few drummers (if not the only) I've seen play with them where you can clearly see his expressions and really seems into the song. There are a few times in this one like at 3:15 where you can see the feels on him. He's gotta be my favorite since Allan Mednard.

What note would that be in jazz theory? An 11th? Sung at the lower octave like that, it comes across as a tritone but totally works and is refreshingly unexpected

It's okay. Then again, a lot of the song's elements aren't to my taste. Singing softly in a half-whisper way weirds me out a bit, and the style wasn't to my interest. The tune itself is kind of dull in my opinion? You probably shouldn't listen to me, though. :P

kalylascope while I do love this cover, I can see where some people wouldn't like this. Casey has a great voice, but some of those parts where he lets his voice get raw don't sound the best. Its just, from a musical perspective, the interpretation there is more important than the sound itself

Every time I hear him sing I think to myself “Man, I just want to hang out with this guy.” He seems like one of the most genuinely interesting individuals out there. Bass+singing means he loves what he does cause that stuff doesn’t come natural, it’s time and practice in action.

When the song started, I was thinking "Man, I don't know about this one. His singing voice is all over the place, and the piano just seems off."

Jonathan Sundstrom Nope. It’s a thirteenth(6th). La. Go up two notes and you are at the tonic. First time I heard him do it was on Nature Boy in American Idol. Maybe the tritone between the minor third and the 6th are making you think it’s a #11? Both cases feature that devil’s interval. A minor 13th chord is hella cool. #11 endings are usually more for when you have a lydian(major) type sound. In minor keys a #11 will end up just sounding like a diminished chord which actually isn’t a very jazzy way to end a tune. Maj7#11 is a cool jazzy ending sound, but that’s not the sound here.
