2:42 Dammit, Tambourine-guy just always gives that proverbial rhythm everything he's got.
Just... keep being you, Tambourine-guy. Forever.
Everyone needs a Tambourine Man in their life. :3
You can just tell he loves what he's doing and gives it everything he's got.
He is my Spirit animal
@@stewmacdonald , that absolutely made my day! Thanks for sharing ❤️
I completely missed the absolute non stop stallion that is Tambourine-guy on first watch. Now I've seen it about a dozen times and he's all I'm watching, lol You go Tambourine Man!!!!
Can we appreciate that not only Scott is in this but both Casey Abrams AND Snuffy Walden is in this music video (also Tim, the tambourine guy)!
This is my favorite 80’s song, you can’t imagine how thrilled I was to see this!!!!
Can we talk about tambourine man though.... I might be in love.
ALSO CHEF HAT CONFETTI MAN
As well as me. And I thought I was a straight man
He was awesome in their Dancing in the Dark.
The energy is amazing
I’m super bout that confetti cannon guy myself hahaha
Brought super happy tambourine guy back....awesome
No no no no no no no NO! He needs to stay in season 1 - so annoying!
Dude tambourine man OP
Grammy award winning super happy tambourine guy!
He’s the best!
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
I dont think there is a single person on the planet who has more fun performing than Casey Abrams.
Also, Stan Lee on the guitar? Priceless.
Stan Lee,
are we watching the same video?
Fun performing? ... check out Leo P on the bari sax from Too Many Zooz. Dunno what that guy's been smoking but you need to practically peel him off the ceiling after a performance. I keep wishing PMJ would do a cover with him.
Not, but that would have been groovy!😂
@@noshadow666 now that would be epic af!!!

- "We're gonna need someone to do a guitar solo on this track."
- "What about that guy who composed the main theme for 'The West Wing'?"
- "...That was the first dude that came to your mind?"
- "Yup."
I guess if that's the only reason you knew him it would be a weird choice.
As a self-proclaimed lover of all things music "except jazz" PMJ has had me questioning myself for years. I thought it was just envy of the oozing sexiness of the girls that I would love to embody, but this has just proven to me that it's actually about the pure perfection of adapting musical styles that has made PMJ a go-to of mine every time. Thank you for opening my eyes to the possibility of jazz and how men can ooze that ooziness too. Recently subscribed to Scottlee too. I'm recently separated from an 18 year relationship and your music used to make me feel sexy all alone in my kitchen. Now, it's my soundtrack to my newly found self-love and my budding new chance at love. Thank you so much 💖
Look up PMJ's cover of Thriller (if you haven't already) and check out Anthony Vincent, aka Ten Second Songs. just. trust me on this one.
"What do you want to be when you grow up, Casey? A musician?"
"A muppet."
"Well, you're a person, you can't be a muppet."
"Ok, Musician."
Best Comment Ever!
And now here I am wishing they would cover Am I a man or a Muppet
I kept seeing animal. It was great
That’s exactly it! 100% muppet vibes
can i still be a muppet.
the tamborine guy is back
Nagasesa Nagasesa that’s dear mr tambourine man lol
Fuck yeah I love him
And perhaps his best performance ever!!!
Tamborine guy is having the time of his life
One of the greatest covers ever. Of course, that applies to most PMJ covers.
Casey’s man-bun to frazzled hair transformation is what I live for
never seen him with untied hair, now I'm jealous it's insane
when I saw him live my hair was a bit of a mess and he complimented it 😂❤️
Nobody needs to seen "man-buns", ever. It's about as attractive as baggies half-way down your ass. Now get off my lawn...
Lets hope it sparks a global move away from that horrendous fashion mistake. :)
It is official; Casey Abrams is hair goals.
That intro was kinda unnecessary. I prefer the live recording setup to be honest.

I think this is just their way of saying “We’re back for season 2”
@@matthew8153 i feel like this is like tripping over your own two feet right out of the gate.
First feeling was cringe.
Second feeling was awkwardness.
Third feeling was enlightenment.
In the words of eric andre, what in the god damn hell are you talking about?
I think this is just a one-off season intro. I'm sure they will perform it live on tour and knock it out of the park.
I hereby declare this the coolest band on the planet!
His hair is majestic af
If only everyone had the same attitude as the tambourine player......
The world would be a far more happy and peaceful place to live in!
How to achieve total happiness and bliss: Get a tambourine.
Slaktmaskin lmao! The way he just fking pops out! Hahahahaha
I LOVED it! Real music! With instruments and everything!!! AMEN!
The first time I heard this, I was in South Africa when rain was falling. A memory never to be forgotten.
-Average comments against the video: "This wasn't really my cup of tea, but glad you guys are back and trying things, I'd just prefer something else."
-Average comments defending the video: "Wow, you guys are such haters and whiners, oh my god why don't you lighten up and enjoy the same things I do you snobs, you just hate change!"
Seriously people, this is the most tamely and politely disliked video I've ever seen and you're blowing it completely out of the water.
Did you survey the whole comment section in order to find the average? Don't talk with such confidence when you have literally no way to prove or disprove otherwise.
@@popcorns6472 by looking at the comment section?!?
@@kylemorrison6162
Each and every comment and getting a mathematically correct percentage of likes and dislikes?
@@nakyer what is that supposed to suggest
Back when the video first released, the comments were pretty much the opposite of what you're describing. There was a whole bunch of haters berating PMJ for even daring to try something new, and the defence was mix of "Wow, I like it!" and "Not my cuppa, but I'm glad you're trying new things from time to time." I'm guessing someone's done a good job of getting rid of the haters, as both groups you're describing were in defence of the video.
God, that tambourine player kills me! Love that so much. And the random chef with confetti made me laugh out loud!
4:21 Is nobody going to mention the guy in the chef outfit who walked in, took a big bite of raw spaghetti, shot some confetti out of a tube, and left?
Tambourine guy and the Chef! My 2 favs!
Piano man is giving it his all. Kudos!!
your experience will be better by starting the video at 1:37
Carlos Pacheco but it will be 100 times better if you start at 5:55
i like starting at 0:00 :)
Seriously what were they thinking...
i think it refers to some ppl who just says that "yea i can do mixing" but irl they just do simple things like rhytm and all that (i dont know much). PLEASE NOTE THAT I SAID 'SOME', not everyone who plays EMP. I appreciate their hardworks too.
Thanks for the note, almost clicked away because that was just painful
I love PMJ for the music, musicians, vocalists and Tambourine Guy. The visual performances are just icing, and this video was great and gave the same vibe as what I'd expect back when MTV played music videos. Smells Like Teen Spirit, Buddy Holly (Weezer), Basket Case, etc. were good videos that weren't performed live, but they were fun.
Love their brilliant take on every cover. Toto song is amazing, but what they did to it, this is just incredible. Love how they play it and sing it. Wonderful. He put his heart into it, but I do appreciate when they let the ladies sing, with powerful voices, but it is cool, just he doesn't have the voice for it, but enjoys doing it as it looks like.
I get what people are saying about the mix. However, I'd watch Casey perform all day long regardless. That dude loves performing and it shows.
I fell in love with PMJ because their live one-take videos were incredible, the energy that the musicians put into the performance was irresistible. I aspire to be that type of performer! The editing/production of this somehow loses that magic. I can see how animated Casey and Scott are but I can't *feel it* in this format because the editing doesn't match the performance, I'm not as engaged or not drawn in like I was with Stacey's Mom, Creep, Duck Tales etc. We've lost that raw talent that the one-take gave us. I can't *see* how talented these musicians really are as it's lost in the format. I'm not a purist or against change (I'm happy to see you experimenting with content, I like the skit at the beginning) but the editing/format of the actual music section has lost the magic and power that I know PMJ can deliver. There's not many groups out there that create live one-take style content so, respectfully from a fan, I love the one-take style performances, it's what makes you special, please don't lose sight of that that!
Relax. This was just a big announcement that season two was here.
The irony is that the entire point of the opening sketch is about that very thing. The other people are into a button that plays pre-recorded, heavily-edited music while Mr. Manbun is showing them live instruments in one take.
Charlie Vetsworth oh I see, you’re going around calling everyone with an opposing opinion to your own ‘toxic’. That’s not what that word means, calm down.
Very well said and I wholeheartedly agree
@Charlie Vetsworth Really? Is this really a necessary comment? I care, and clearly others do too. This is a massive step away from why a lot of us fell in love with the band. Your over the top reaction to someone else's opinion is pretty pathetic
Tambourine Guy is back!!
YESSSS!!!!!
That's Grammy Award Winning Tambourine Guy!
That's Grammy Award Winning Tambourine Guy!
One of the best videos from Postmodern Jukebox!
2:31 and a smile is immediately on my lips for tambourine guy
Nobody ever brings up 4:37 .
I prefer the old videos; much more raw and emotion-evoking than the cold, clinical feel of the production of this video (i.e. the wind machines, intro and outro, and so forth).
I agree with you, honestly that intro was so boring , i have heard some saying that they are just changing , but they are great becuase of their music so they do not need to add anything to make the videos more special
Changing in what way? The videos likely cost a lot more and probably take a lot more time to make, so it seems unlikely to be an ongoing thing
The tambourine guy in the background stole the show
He always steals the show :)
Killin it as always!
He is totally the best.
He always does
yeah
I apparently am one of the few who love this video and have watched/listened to it over a dozen times. The intro was hilarious, stinkin hipsters, and the singing had a raw quality to it that I don't often hear. The music was classic PMJ and it all came together quite well.
That ending, priceless... Abrams is a great entertainer.
And las Latinas, oh mi corazón...
*Here comes Season Two!*
Yes, season two. Spot on!
To those of you who are commenting on Casey's singing, the vocals (Toto) were originally sung by two different members. One with a high range, and one with a low range. Not many people have that diverse of a range. Frankie Valli had an extensive range, as does Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Steve Martin from The Left Banke.
When the Tambourine Guy jumped up from behind the piano it added a completely new vibe. Fun.
the most happy guy of the video is the one plaing the tamborine on the back
Banned Instrument. Nice touch.
I was thinking that's a in-joke. Perhaps guitar was banned from PMJ (at least in season 1), so they're poking fun at themselves -- and perhaps announcing that that ban has been lifted for S2. But that's all just speculation.
Drew Davis if they did ban it, it would have had to be after the Barbie Girl cover- I guess it's more like banned sounds like band? Or like you said, that they often don't use them?
The whole story joke was that this was set in the near future with "postPostmodern" instruments , that is basically buttons that played predeveloped series of sounds with no thought going into them. Guitar was probably banned in that time period because it was to radical or something. They were playing from the behind the counter stash. It's a fun dig at how electronic music could evolve but more importantly how awesome old school is. Everyone is getting all upset about what postmodern jukebox has always been about.
PMJ has never been about pretentious digs at other styles of music. It's never been about tearing down the new, just mixing it with the old.
If they had a ban at all (and remember, I'm just speculating), I think it would just have been a humorous way to put their preferred styles. A "covers of pop/rock, but with no guitars!" kind of thing. Certainly they use them when they need to, especially the bass guitar. (No way to do Motown without one of those, with all due respect to their upright string bass players.)
I just hear 5 version of Africa in Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, instagram and the OG in RUclips and then I got the notification for this.
This song is haunting me.
Help
nguyễn minh châu Same. I hear it every day and I have no idea why.
Nothong is going to take it away from you. Nothing. This is your life now
A new study by the NY university came to the conclusion that Africa was the best Pop Song ever. That’s why it was in the news and that’s why a lot of artists pay tribute to this mighty song right now
You're not haunted by it, YOU ARE BLESSED.
I think you mean this song is blessing you
SCOTT BRADLEE! PMJ! CASEY! love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!!!!
The best cover.
So, you're telling me that you guys suddenly upload a video without a notif, playing toto's africa with a cinematographic video?
Well, to be fair, Scott did say today was the start of Season 2.
yup
@@postmodernjukebox you and your team are the best, scott 👍👍

A man who keeps his promise for his fans 👏
I absolutely love this one as much as I love all other stuff from PMJ! I don’t care if looks too much of a production or if is not perfectly synced... I just enjoyed their version of the classic Toto song and I the way they highlight difference between electronic and instrument music...
can't believe i hadn't seen this before. awesome video. great arrangement. excellent dance.
Amazing!
Good thing: the MV style allows close up to everyone in the video, giving a chance for people to see all the musicians.
Less good thing: it loses the live singing feel that we all love about PMJ videos.
Oh well, we can't expect them to stay exactly the same forever, they will want to evolve and try different thing at some point. So, we'll see where this goes.
P/S: Casey Abrams and Tambourine Guy in one video were everything!
If they are gunna do something like this every now and again im not against it just for fun and a nice change every now and again, but god i hope this isn't the style they are going with from this point out. I love this channel because its about artists performing, no extra faff, just pure raw music.
This. I like to see them get wild and try something different from time to time (I loved the Don't Stop Believing one-take) , but I hope they return to their tried and true live style. Just be true to the music, that's why most of us are here.
Yeah, I don't mind them doing something different. I LOVED the Journey cover with Sara. In fact, that might be the best vid they've ever done. I just didn't like this one so much. It's not a philosophical objection to going off book every now and then, just specific to this.
I loved this song anyway but this just made it perfect. The whole story around it is brilliant and I could listen to Casey Abrams all day every day.
For a Postmodern Jukebox, this is the least postmodern video I've ever seen. In the true sense of the word.
Tambourine Guy makes everything twice as good!
Edit: 100x better 😍😘
Not the typical PMJB video style but I like Casey's raspy voice :) You can't hate them for trying something new, so much negativity in the comments. Boo to all of you haters!
I know some people have a problem with the production of this video, but overall, I really enjoy it. I’ve watched it multiple times.
It makes me happy.
Thanks Casey and crew. Where would we be without pmj
Wow, surprised at the hate. I thought it was a lot of fun! It's obviously a special "We're back from break" video and I assume they'll go back to their standard format after this.
People like routine
welcome to white america, a snowflake's finger is just sitting on the trigger, waiting to show the world what a narcissistic idiot he is
gisforgary what?
@@justanotherself3916 You said it there. The only issue is: routine kills art.
If PMJ actually _do_ stop trying new stuff they'll fade... and all the people who whined about every new experiment will be complaining that they suck now, but won't be able to articulate _why_.
If Scott stuck to repeating the popular without experimenting... PMJ wouldn't even exist.
People acting like criticism is a personal attack.
Ironic someone makes a snowflake comment while themselves being upset by opinions.
His voice doesnt suit the song.
The intro was cringe and tonedeaf
Ita not hate its just opinions so feel free to grow up
Did anyone think the mix sounded a bit off on this one?
Casey's vocals seemed quiet or muffled. It felt a little off. But I'll allow it because they're experimenting. :)
Ye I don’t know what it is, I think the original is so smooth and this is very sticatto so maybe sounds off. I also feel like this version doesn’t sound as full which this song needs
yeah I had trouble discerning most of the instruments. I didn't hear the tambourine guy at all
Yessssss
The vocals just sounded off to me, like they didn't match the video but it wasn't a sync issue.
Vocals were also off for me, emotionally off. Might of just been the 50s style they were going for but it feel very bland.
I know a lot of people just want the straight to the point music, but this was phenomenal and one of my favorite pmj vids
Live this song sounds even better! 😍
How do we keep the focus on Casey with tambourine guy in the background?
PMJ: Editing.
I hope this isn't the end of the live stuff
Jonah no, they do these for fun.
Can't think of a single reason to think that it would be. The live stuff is probably cheaper and quicker to make.
Crazy seeing this comment in 2020.
This version is growing on me. These are some really talented people. I play the modern pop version bass line on this song but it takes some really creative talent to play a song in a different style and do it well. Well done!
Goosebumps 😍 I love those songs recorded in vintage style!
okay. let’s admit. WE WERE WAITING FOR THIS ONE !! 😍
Exactly, lol.
Oh yes. Definitely.
Well worth the wait, too!
anyone who hasn't been waiting for this hasn't seen the steady progression of high profile groups covering this song...
Too bad it wasn't a better version..
I swear i have listened to the song 100 times. Love the creativity and the fun of this version.
I have loved Casey since American Idol. Always will.
Hahaha as a musician and hobbyist producer that intro cracked me up so bad. And God this song rocks. You guys continue to amaze me. I love it
2:30 YOOOOO, Tambourine Man!
Love that PMJ is back, and Casey Abrams is the best forever. That said... UGH. I really hope this is a one-off and every new video doesn't come with 1:30 of 'comedy' in front. Also the idea that there's REAL music and there's electronic music is deeply unnecessary. Many different kinds of music can exist!
And for eff's sake, Africa... if only the internet could get over this song already. This is one of the better covers, but it could have been anything else...
AMEN to the comment about the so-called "comedy" at the beginning. I'm here for the music not high production.
Love love love!

Fun to the max on a classic from my childhood. Loved it. Thank you
Not quite sure about this one. I always loved the simplicity of the one camera + musicians. I do like the arrangement (great arrangement!) and music-wise no complaint from my side, but the video ... Funny and perfectly well executed ... I can't quite grasp it. I miss something. Perhaps it is just some kind of "good old days"-stupidity on my side. Anyways, I'm off now to buy "Blue mirror" and will check the upcoming tour dates. ;)
Calm down there Charlie, you're being far more toxic than anyone else here. Some people certainly are overreacting to this, but simply saying that this one didn't work for them is hardly "not letting PMJ try new things".
Over-enthusiast tambourine guy FTW.
Love from Italy.
This immediately gets a thumbs up not only for the cover BUT it mainly gets it for FINALLY GIVING THE DRUMMER SOME CAMERA TIME!
The vocalist has got some lovely Lloyd Price tonality going on. Very good!
Dont care. Once i saw Happy Tamburine Guy in the video i have to like this!
I don't get all the hating. I´m loving it.
Sure, it´s over the top. But definitly on purpose.
Keep going PMJ!
For me it's just the pretentious atitude of that intro, making fun of people who produce and create music from their computers. Like I'm a musician, and I went down that path of hating people who made beats with their computers and made music because I thought it was dumb and that it made them stupid because they didn't need the cordination of playing an instrument. But i can tell you after workng with producers and people who do that shit, its a hard process too, "making beats" is honestly just a hard of a process creating as writing the music and preforming it. So the intro really rubbed me the wrong way and really tried to look down on those type of people
@@antoinephan622 Im a jazz drumset player, trust me I understand that jazz music is no longer in the mainstream, and the "It's cool" was entirely sarcastic. But I think that if you want to show people that jazz is a cool style of music, its probably best to just play it and show how cool it is, not belittle other styles of music.
I thought it was subpar. Just didn't like the sound. The vocalist wasn't suited for this particular song nor the "'50s"-style of music it was played in. I didn't find the orchestration very interesting either.
@@porsche911sbs Exactly, and most importantly after watching and listening to the Leap Frog cover of the same song. That's far more interesting (to me at least). Not hating Casey and PMJ at all, I was on 3 of their shows even when they were playing the first few times in Europe an the closest show to us was 2 countries away.
