Hickman's era is what got me back into comics tbh. He brought the X-Men back to comic book prominence.

Yeah, I completely disagree with both of their takes on Claremont's X-Men run. Claremont is the reason why the X-Men are as popular today as they are. It was his run that took the whole comic book industry hostage for 2 solid decades.

The Fox movies were definitely a mixed bag, but let’s not forget that we _did_ get a few truly great movies, like X2 and DoFP. And not only is “Logan” possibly the best comic-book movie ever made, it’s one of the best pieces of film ever made, period.

That’s not what he meant by replacing the character with a new actor. People are mad at Tony being replaced by iron heart because that is changing the character to someone else for woke ism or some shit. With 007 all they did was keep the character and change the actor. This is the equivalent of all the Spiderman actors and don cheadle for warmachine.

6:40 this part of the conversation reminded me of explaining to my non-comicbook reading friend, after seeing a preview screening of X-Men TLS, how Rogue is in the comics differs from Rogue in Fox X-Men and her responding with "Wow! LOVED IT....How everyone is saying XMEN 97 episode 5 was way better than "Infinity War" and "Endgame" combine...because they are staying true to the source material....into a new twist! ....The live-action movies failed because they don't stay true to the source material. "XMEN 97" is pulling source material from "E for Extinction" and "Operation: Zero Tolerance' to get "Tolerance is Extinction."

I want to counter Rob's first argument by saying that Avengers Endgame is a MUCH better movie than most of its audience realizes. That's because A LOT of people TOTALLY MISSED how clever the movie is, mistakenly coming away from it thinking that the time heist movie is a multiverse movie, when there was only 1 timeline in the entire movie. Banner went back in time to get an Infinity Stone from The Ancient One. She refused to give it to him, saying that if it was removed from its spot, a branched timeline would be created. She afterward gave him the Time Stone when he promised to send the Stone back to that moment, to her so that no other timeline would be produced. Hulk also had a speech about how you can't change anything that has already happened. He was specifically referring to the present not being changed, but the implication is that the past can't be changed either. It's in full agreement with his conversation with The Ancient One. The Russo Brothers really covered their bases in this movie, adding one more thing just in case there still might be some confusion. Gamora saw "two Nebulas," and Thanos corrected her thinking by saying that there is only 1 Nebula but from 2 different points in the timeline. At the end of the movie, Captain America takes all Stones to the points in the timeline so that no branched timelines are produced.
The entire audience came away from the movie, claiming that it was a multiverse movie, THE OPPOSITE of everything that they saw. Totally caught me off guard. I was NOT expecting that. The entire movie is only 1 unchanged timeline. We were supposed to come away, marveling over the fact that when we saw the first Avengers movie in 2014, we didn't know that the Avengers from 2018 were a few blocks away avoiding contact with the 2014 Avengers; and when Steve Rogers visited Peggy Carter in Captain America: Civil War, and Rogers saw the picture of the 2 kids, 2018 Steve Rogers was there somewhere keeping himslf hidden, again to avoid confusion, but he forgot to remove the picture of his kids. 2014 Thor was there during the events of Thor: Dark World. Everything that made the movie fun and interesting totally went over the heads of 90% of the audience.
Loki is the one who threw a wrench in the plan. He did EXACTLY what The Ancient One described to Banner, removing a Stone from its place in the timeline to create a branched timeline. In the Loki Disney+ series, Loki sees a box of impotent Infinity Stones, and he's told that they're valueless, good only as paperweight. An Infinity Stone has power ONLY in the universe, or timeline, of its origin. Again, proof that Endgame was only 1 timeline. The Stone wouldn't have worked at all if the Avengers had taken them from any other timeline.
Endgame is a GREAT movie; the people who saw the movie just don't know yet how good it was.

You just had to go GOAT MODE…..
YES! ROB GETS IT! This used to be common sense that just disappeared once these projects reached their peak in the limelight. You are NEVER going to make a good, well liked, or successful adaptation of anything that doesn't have a modicum of affection and respect for the source material and the audience that made it popular in the first place. Fundamentally changing something in adaptation from what made people like it is defeating the whole point of adaptation. You're not going to get new audiences to like it because you stripped out everything that people already liked in the first place, and the core audience are the biggest cheerleaders to the mainstream for any adaptation. If you drive off the core audience and spit on their baseline expectations of respect and quality, you are going to lose. It's not that everything has to be exactly 1:1, but the spirit of the story should still be present and the characters faithfully represented (only when there's an inherent flaw in the character should anyone dream of trying to remake the wheel). The people adapting should at least have enough understanding to know what people love and shouldn't be changed in translation. Shows like Invincible and X-Men '97 are dang near perfect examples of how to do this right. They hearken back to a time when comic adaptations, particularly the animated shows from the 90s and 00s (even a little into the early 10s with Avengers: EMH), are beloved even to this day because they were made by talented people who were either fans of the source material themselves or they at least respected it enough to want to do it justice and preserve what was beloved and successful about it.
The comments about escapism are absolutely true as well. The issue is not "politics." That misses the forest for the trees or at least fails to adequately articulate the problem. There are plenty of great "political" stories out there that touch on social issues. The problem is anti-escapism and propaganda. All stories in all mediums have a perspective. The ones that don't are meaningless and forgotten. What differentiates a good story from a bad and propagandistic story is that a good story will portray all of its characters honestly in a nuanced manner, and it will "give the devil his due," so to speak, when presenting diverse viewpoints, neither of wbich a lot of modern entertainment circa 2015 have been capable of doing tbh (hence why so many TV shows and movies have sucked and have sparked culture war conflicts since then).
Marvel (or Star Wars for that matter) have NO hope of recovery unless they rediscover what should have been an obvious truth.
I agree with Rob X men is the best thing Marvel put since forever.

One man’s worth was one of the best episodes in the original series- to note the avengers features that I noticed and it was brief -the were iron man in green suit, the patriot (Steve rogers) ant man , wasp , scarlet spider, and I think Hercules but not 100%. I think that episode 4 was great but some of the original episodes were great such as one man’s worth and the dark phoenix end episode when the x-men fight the imperial guard - brilliant

Also, as some one who is older and didnt get into the original X-Men cartoon, 97 stands on its own.
The reason the animation was crapy in the original was because the studio didn't believe in the show so the budget was cheap.
