Also I do enjoy every character(except for sunspot) and find them great but come on none of them are at the level of Iron Man, Captain American, phase 3 Thor, or even more recently characters like Loki from Loki, and Wanda from Wandavision. One of the things out of many that I really loved about 97 was Magnetos story. He didnt have any alternate motive or mustache twirling evil plan but he actually tried to do things Xaviers way. It gave us a new look at this character before we got the unhinged version again.
In fact, his "unhinged" version is even more so justified by the fact that making things Xavier's way ended up with him being betrayed on a few levels - by the world, that turned on mutants once again, and by Xavier, who not only turned out to be alive, but also, once back, refused to do the same courtesy to Magneto, even though the peaceful way didn't seem to work. Even though Magneto arguably goes too far, he is still a crucial counterweight to Xavier's too lenient approach, as is argued in the video. They're both unhinged in their own way, and only find the right balance in clashing against each other.
I think X-Men '97 is indicative that audiences are tired of cynicism. And I don't mean cynical in terms of tone as in bleak/dark. But cynicism in terms of, "Hmm, well that just happened" type of humor undercutting a work's own dramatic tension. It was novel with the MCU when it first came out, allowing casuals to allow themselves to enjoy these "costumed superhero" movies. "If the characters are laughing at themselves, then I can laugh at them too!" But after a decade plus of that, you know what, I kinda miss sincerity. I miss stories not constantly looking at the audience going wink wink, get it? And X-Men '97 doesn't do that. It COMMITS to it's material. It commits to the superheroes meet soap opera drama and never apologizes for it. It's okay if something like the upcoming Deadpool movie does it because 4th wall breaking has always specifically been his thing. But it was tiring to have every single superhero film seem to be almost ashamed of being a comic book movie. X-Men '97 never feels ashamed of its roots, it let's the audience get invested into its characters.
Its not just that cynicism has become disgustingly pervasive, it's also the matter of "talking down to the audience" which has become a plague in Western media. The people who make media generally haven't had any respect whatsoever for their own audience, and it shows through projects like the live action Witcher series, which was intentionally destroyed by its own writers out of spite for the source material. It also has ways of showing itself through pandering or pushing agendas and all of it is built on the premise that humanity are literally cash cows to be milked. We're not people to "them", we're an obstacle they need to overcome to get their money, and that's why so much recent Western art has been culturally and financially artificial, but it's also because of that well of forgettable, pointless media that X-Men 97 was able to shine so brightly. The few rare cases where the audience is respected are noticed, and they succeed immensely because of it, the problem is that ultimately it's the wealthiest elites who decide what media gets funded and which doesn't, and those are the people we need to have respect for the general audience. When we can figure out how to make billionaires have respect for wagies, that's when we'll have our new era of groundbreaking and culturally significant storytelling.
Can we acknowledge how amazing Mister Sinister is as a villain? Christopher Britton absolutely killed it as the character. It’s been over two decades since he last voiced him and he made it look like it hadn’t even been a day. I still can’t understand why so many filmmakers don’t have any interest in using him as in the movies.
Couldn't agree more. The entire concept of sinister is chilling on so many levels. If I had to guess, I think his aesthetic and the "supernatural" aspect of him makes him difficult to adapt to live action. BUT I still think they could do it.
He is amazing. But i still would consider him as a Tier 1 villain. Bastion, Ultron, Thanos and Apocalypse are in my book, Tier 3 villains. If they want to make an X-Men movie trilogy, Mr. Sinister can be the first villain. We have already had our fill watching Magneto be an antagonist. I would now actually want him to either join the X-Men or lead the X-Men. That being said, Cyclops still rules as a leader.
One of imo the most underrated parts of this show is Nightcrawler's speech to Rogue. The way they did Nightcrawler was phenomonal and that speech really hit me
I recall that scene in one of the fox X-Men movies where mystique is hit with a anti-mutant drug and magneto immediately leaves her behind. That writer didnt understand magneto, at all.
Coming from someone who has seen barely anything X-men related, I can say that this might be my favorite show of 2024. The animation, the performances, the emotional moments that last with you (RIP Gambit), just everything worked so well together in a way that made me engaged to the very end. 100/10 long live the X-men
As someone who hasn’t seen a single ep from the original show, this series had me hooked. What stood out to me was how distinct and likable every character was. They were all unique and had their moment to shine. It was also nice to not see them rely on that excessive ‘MCU humour’, which I feel most shows/movies are ham-fisted with for the sake of comedy. Can’t wait for season 2
As a long-time X-Men fan and fan of the original series, even though I wasn't born when the show was around, HOLY S*** , THIS SERIES IS EXCEPTIONAL (pun intended). Now this is how you do a tv show revival successfully! No joke, this series is so masterfully well written, with absolutely phenomenal animation and truly compelling characters and complex, deep, dark themes that genuinely make you question the inherent societal bigotry and how to process internal thoughts of fighting for equality and how to do so in a way to help society grow from the status quo of discrimination and to do more than allow yourself to become numb to a neverending struggle that you feel like isn't your responsibility. Truthfully, this series is some of the *BEST MARVEL MEDIA WE'VE EVER SEEN SINCE ENDGAME* (except No Way Home, GOTG3 and Loki)! Compared to how phenomenal this series was, Fox movies seem like amateur student films with such a bare-bones understanding of how truly incredible and insane the X-Men stories can be when you truly hire people who care about these amazing characters. After watching this show and its epic finale, Bastion became one of my favourite X-Men/Marvel villains. Theo James especially gave a superb performance as Bastion; now, whenever I read a comic featuring Bastion, I'll hear his voice. Not only him but the entire voice cast, especially for Cyclops, Magneto, Storm, Jean, Charles, Gambit, Rogue, Jubilee, Wolverine, Morph, and Nightcrawler, all did a tremendous job. Bro; the number of cameos in this series is insane! Cyclops and Jean saying goodbye to Cable/Nathan had me in tears🥺. 10/10 SEASON 1 I NEED A SEASON 2 NOW!!!
This show is a tarnish on the original X-Men animated series legacy. I once rooted for the Mutants but now the I support the Humans that hunt them down and keep them in line. This show proves to me that Magneto is wrong.
@@Tevin-MK The MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, is not in the same universe as the events in the world of X-Men '97. Simply put, as just one clear example, neither in the past nor the future of the X-Men '97 world will Thanos show up and wipe out half of the life in the universe for many years.
The best show of the year and the second best project in the MCU. It had a great story, characters and animation. The cameos actually have a purpose in the story. The animation is great. The action is probably the best action we’ve ever seen in an X-Men project. Gambit’s death is so emotional.
We were all proven wrong I Doubted this show so much then the 3 episodes came out and I watched all the 90s episodes before getting into 97 and it was worth it’s so much
X-Men 97 certainly is a great series. I feel that the mutant narrative is relatable for a lot of fans. The whole story of the X-Men is based on the Civil Rights Movement. The whole anti-mutant ideology, still reflects for poc, women and lgbtq community. Its because of this that there is a personal identity. The mutants are a reflection of America. In that its a flawed country that spreads hate instead of hope. Personally i believe in Magneto and understand his frustration with humanity.
I love how it also touches on the subject of colonialism during that episode of Professor X with the Shi'ar. That Rudyard Kipling reference was on point. While the X-Men has other central themes, the mere mention of it reflects the wide awareness of the showrunners-a reason why the show appeals to a wide audience.
@@CoolManCoolMan123Well, the original run was more bigotry in general. And, considering it was made by two Jewish creators, it did boil a lot down to “Okay, passing kids. Don’t let anyone know about our special school in the suburbs or bad things may happen”. Then the 5 year gap happened where the mutant metaphor first started being attributed to race. Bad news? It was a Daredevil story involving Nekra and the Mandrill which… you can tell no black person saw that before it went to print. And then Giant Sized happened where it was heroes from all different walks of life. Claremont saw the MLK vs Malcolm X debate but, in an Empire magazine interview, he thought that doing that as a white man would be “incredibly presumptuous”. So, instead he did stories where Xavier and Magneto were more like the Israeli prime ministers Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin respectively.
I’ve been where cable is. I spent all my childhood trying to save my mother. It was like being stuck in a time loop. And no matter how much I try, I couldn’t. In the end I lost her. And with that went my chance to save her. I know how cable feels.
I've never watched an X-Men show this good since Evolution. I never expected to invest a lot in the show with how different it was from the original TAS and how it touched topics that feels relatable to the real world. In addition, 97 was able to touch how these characters interact in situations they are living in shows how human they actually are. I'm glad Disney was able to greenlight the show and Marvel delivering a story-driven narrative that not only focuses on the action scenes, but the struggles these people had encountered reflecting the same problems we see in our world.
I've only just started reading the classic X-Men stories about a year ago, but seeing storylines like Lifedeath, E for Extinction and Operation Zero Tolerance being adapted is so crazy and awesome. It literally reminded me of how hype I was watching the og cartoon as well as Spider-Man.
I’m still blown away at how perfect this season was. Literally frothing at the mouth waiting for new episodes each week. The action, DRAMA, music, all of it was next level. And episode 5 with Genosha was a historical moment in American animation. I’m so glad they leaned into the narrative and parables of marginalized groups because it had brought so many fans new and old into the show
Rogue is one of my favorite characters, and lately when watching clips of her and gambit, I've noticed the comments are filled with hate for her (people's favorite insult is currently "she's for the streets"). And those who say something in defense are quick to point out the age difference and blame her actions on grooming, but there is a lot of complexity in her past any of those implications. Rogue has been stuck in her own head and heart for a long time. She and Gambit were never going to move forward as they were. It wasnt until she had that breakthrough and realized (too late) that love was more than skin deep--and yes, its a risk. But it was a risk she had to learn to be willing to take. That last dance/kiss scene with magneto is her closure on not only that relationship but also on the possibility of having a physically intimate relationship if it means having a more fulfilling emotionally intimate relationship. There has been a lack of understanding when it came to her struggles and the complexity in her arc this season. I'll get off my soap box now lol Thank you for putting into words what I found so difficult to say!
i hope this is a sign of things moving in the right direction at marvel - story, character, and themes first - there will still be plenty of room for easter eggs, callbacks, and cameos
I just want to point out that the show is actually mostly hand drawn, though there are a few background shots that use CG for big crowds of characters. The rest is traditional 2D animation.
X-men '97 is a MASTERPIECE!!! The BEST thing Marvel showed us IN YEARS!!! Episode 5 IS DRAMATIC,TRAGIC AND SO SO SO FUCKING PERFECT. The end made me shivering after the end
The theme of personal identity is universal. That’s why X-men succeeds. It doesn’t target one group of people, it targets everyone and everyone can relate. That’s why everyone loves it.
Episode 5 is crazy, but seeing Storm get her powers back made me sob. Something about her story really struck a chord with me and will remain in my mind for a long time. “You all are an echo of who I am… so let them thunder… for I am lightning!”
I'm still chewing on this as well. This video is a great analysis. With apologies to Ian McClellan' queenly Magneto, this is my favorite Magneto, and he's my favorite Marvel mutant. Magneto was right.... in his diagnosis of humanity. His problem is in the prescription he offered. This series is brilliant in portraying this dichotomy.
The way they wrote the "villains" is how Anakin Skywalkers story should've been told. Understanding how people go down certain paths is relatable if done accurately and they did it withe perfection. I cannot imagine even the slightest how they will go about the Apocalypse arch with their talent. Season 2 needs to be like 15 episodes.
ONE OF THE BEST BREAKDOWNS ON RUclips!! You made me think of X-Men and my life in such a new light that made me cry. Genuinely a great video about a great season and I hope to see more to come whenever season 2 drops ;.)
I was introduced to X-Men through the movies and I've never read the comics or watched any of the cartoons but I'm excited to see how Cyclops is cuz they did him extremely dirty in the movies.
Dude you could teach a class about this, I felt like a student listening to you break down how great this show’s themes are about oppression and I think that’s what’s so awesome about this show. Very well done!!!
The 90s show was my gateway to marvel. And Jubilee was my favourite. So since then a lot of X-men media dissapointed me. Jubilee was often replaced, sidelined on in the comics I felt like writers who did remember her would just chuck anything at her without caring for her character. I agree that Jubilee couldn't stay the same teenager forever. It felt like writers just wanted to force maturity on her without showing us development from point A to B. Suddenly she's a mother, a vampire and teacher all at once. It felt so weird because we didn't really see the intermission of her maturity and it just felt like a kid playing dress up. I think the wolverine and jubilee comics tried to mend this dissonance but didn't do the best job. 97 fixed this weirdness and had Jubilee start to mature in a way that finally felt natural for the character.
Yes 200% a masterpiece! Improving on the original while honouring it ***spoiler alert*** gambits death, Genosha massacre, Wolverine getting adamantium pulled out (I was like are they gonna do it??? And they did!!) not to mention the action, animation, and great story and voice acting…just incredible. Easily one of the best marvel projects of all time, hands down best tv series (beating out Loki). Just so happy.
I am a big fan of the 90s tv show series, today took time to see the new '97 series on Disney+. Have seen 4 episodes now, it's absolutely incredible. Great art with matching special effects in combination with a great and thrilling storyline. You can see that all the people that worked on this project were very passionate in delivering an awesome Marvel product that is so true to the original series. 200% ❤
Gottta say the one part that felt a little weak is the whole "Magneto was right" thing. No he wasn't, not even close. He was going to kill billions of people both mutant and non-mutant with that stunt. It is beyond the pale. He doesn't even interact with Bastion beyond giving him the silent treatment. If what a handful of humans have done to him (and Bastion is a mutant himself) means he gets to try and kill the whole planet, why would humans not have that same logic towards mutants? There aren't even any good humans in the show now that Moira was killed off. And not a single person on the show tries to actually address legit concerns about mutants. Because of course there are no reasonable humans in the show. Still love the show but can't pretend did not notice that all season.
Yeah I kinda get tired of Insert Villain is in the right meanwhile they plan on killing millions of people Can you understand where the likes of Magneto is coming from? Yes but do the means justify the ends? Then again I have a few issues with X 97 personally that holds it back from being great for me but I'm aware I'm in a minority there but if others enjoy it, that's great.
I have no idea if Beau’s firing was justified or not, but I feel like season 2 may not hit these highs without him. Hopefully I’m proven wrong, and hopefully Marvel’s filmic reboot doesn’t suck as much as their recent offerings have.
Season 3 is the one to worry about. He managed to complete the script for Season 2 and even the producers confirmed that they won't change what he already had set for it.
l've had to point this out on multiple peoples videos, so you're not alone, but this isn't a mix of 2D and 3D animation. This is fully 2D animation, but they use 3D tools to assist in storyboards and animatics to aid in perspective for certain shots and that gives the animation a 3D feel at times. Look up the Disney movie The Great Mouse Detective to get an idea of what I'm talking about. It's usually wrongly given credit for the first CGI use in a Disney feature, but it's not CGI. It's computer assisted animation.
Awesome Video!!! This Show Is An Absolute Masterpiece!!! Every Episode was Just Perfect! Episode 5 was Seriously One of The Best Episodes of Television I've Ever Seen. "The Name's Gambit, Mon Ami... Remember It." That Line still gives Me Chills. Marvel Needs to make more Projects like This Because This Show is One Of The Best Things They've Ever Done!!! 10/10 I CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 2!!!!!! TO ME, MY X-MEN!!!!!!
This show was pretty amazing. Made me sit there and think. I even felt for Bastion at one point. You see people's point of view and makes you just question. Also feel bad for Mister Sinister, they did him dirty lol. Magneto may be right, but Bastion had a point. Only thing that was irritating me was the whole Rogue flip flopping. When she murdered Trask, everyone was for it, but she murdered someone. But if I were to say Walker murdering that terrorist was justified, I am told no. Besides that though, this show was beautiful.
It was so good. And in rewatch it gets better and you see what’s possible when u plot and plan ahead of time and stop doing projects on the fly which marvel has been doing.
the way X Men 97 has been received is unprecedented since endgame/iw not much compares to it. even loki was fine but it doesnt compare to this greatness.
As much as I love this show this is also one of the few problems I had with 97. It felt like the show was going way too far out of it's way to make Magneto right and to make Xavier look like a naive fool with the mind of a child. I'd like season 2 to give some defense for Xavier's side and show proof that Xaviers dream is more than just a childish fantasy. Just as season 1 showed Magneto to be more than just a traumatized victim Xavier should have validation all his own. The philosophical struggle doesn't work when one is obviously right and the other is obviously wrong, if this were done the other way around, Xavier seeming to be totally right and Magneto totally wrong no one would like that and it shouldn't be done this way either. The first two of the Fox reboot films handled this perfectly, First Class showed why Magneto believes humans will never accept mutants and Days of Future Past showed why Xavier continues to believe his dream can one day be a reality. Both sides need to have a point and seem believable, not just Magneto.
I agree with nearly every point made here except one... Rogue and Gambit's character arcs are brilliant and perfect. But I will NEVER like or even understand the support for Rogue and Magneto being romantic in this world... It was gross in the comics, its grooming in the 97' world. She was left alone with a 50 ish year old man as a teenager, 18/19 at BEST more likely around 17 ish, if you go from the og shows canon. A man, who is older, intelligent, charming and coincidentally the ONLY man she is able to touch. Don't get me wrong, as a plot device it is interesting, as a motivator for Gambit it works, as development for Rogue, it works. What rubs me the wrong way is that NO ONE calls out Magneto for grooming Rogue and sleeping with her as a teenager... Honestly I think its gross and that the show would've been just as great without the storyline.
I hope the love this show gets is proof enough to Marvel that we need more stuff like this. This series felt like such a love letter to fans while also being the lightning rod for my partner to finally understand my love for American comics. They have never been exposed to this world until I originally showed them the MCU up to Endgame. But they liked the stream lined story and the way those actors played those roles. But this series is what made them really love what the comics themselves are really about. How it mixes so many of the most important storylines into one easily digestible show. I hope we get other series that emulate the Avengers like a true to form infinity war or a true civil war story line. Or possibly a spiderman show that could honestly follow to many stories to count. But damn it if this isn't Marvel catching up to the DC animated movies.
I loved Roberto in this show he’s one of my favorite x-men and it’s nice that he’s in a show now yes he’s been in x-men evolution but this time he has a meaningful role in the show and we don’t talk about him in new mutants
Kids today think the Avengers were always a big deal, but they failed to realize that the X-Men has so much movies and shows even if the vast majority of them sks for a reason and this reason is that since the 70's the X-Men were the major super hero team comics of Marvel and. comics in general.
8:31 Could you say that this speech (as awesome and chilling as it is) is the start of Magneto's downfall/tragedy Yes, he convinces these people to be tolerant, and it leads to great things like the establishment of Genosha But it also vindicates the tolerance is extinction idea, by keeping humans at arms length "I am not asking you to love or embrace us" and still holding onto his anger and superiority "dont make me let you down". By explcitly dividing mutants and humans apart due to their inherent differences, they're tolerated but not accepted, meaning this was always a fragile peace and if they ever came under attack they would be piteied in this "shared world of ours" but never aided (all the more tragic since it was two mutants that attacked Genosha not humanity) This vindicates Charles' viewpoint of the need to live in harmony with humans but also acknowledges they wouldn't have made it this far without the passion and rightousness of Magnetos's cause. In a way, could you argue that Magneto's peace and leadership were doomed to fail since he wasn't prepared for the forms that intolerance can take outside of the simple hatred he felt his whole life. It's like how the video says at the end. There is no path forward in hatred, and yes, Magneto of all people was never going to forget the injustices he felt his whole life just for being different, and he isn't wrong for feeling that. But it meant he was never going to win by himself motivated only by anger even when he tried to play at peace it came from a place of prejudice and division. He's tolerant of the humans but doesn't accept them. They were at peace but distinctly isolated by a Them and Us dynamic, meaning Magneto's leadership would never last despite his best intentions. Please let me know if i understood any of that wrong as i am interested in understanding this amazing character study.
I was so afraid that this show was gonna suck given Marvel's recent track record, but I'm so happy this kicked off. And I'm happy that it's the X-Men who get the spotlight this time after Marvel's failed repeated attempts to shit on them in the movies and comics. The fact that they thought that they could get away with trying to replace our favorite mutants with the inhumans is just insulting. What's even cooler is how the show gives all the X-Men a chance to shine, even Morph. They did my boy good.
Yeah Im not a fan of the newer animation when it comes to this as well as Dragon Ball these days, you cant beat the older animation as it feels more authentic. However, saying that Im not just a graphics guy. Ive been excited for X-Men 97 since it was first announced like everyone else and Im about to get into it very soon. Just wanted your take
Well, the X gene is developed in many ways in the comics, high exposure to radiation, or even experiments (deadpool for example). And Bastion IS a mutant with the X gene, since Xavier found him with Cerebro. The gene simply developed thanks to Nimrod wierd sperm.

100/10 long live the X-men
Well Gambit is coming back (no surprise there) they ruined Gambit and then killed him off. I hope he comes back when the show is actually good.
@@XHero220 Opinions are opinions. I like Gambit, and I can’t wait to see him as Death
This show made me put respect on scott summer name who need cyclops was this badass
100% Cyclops has never been better.
Seriously
Cyclops didn't do anything in this show. All he was doing was the baby mama drama.
@@XHero220agreed
🤦
One of the best shows of the year and one of the best marvel anything ever
Absolutely!
Just another WOKE Marvel show.
For a cartoon it is pretty good you got to qualify it
@@XHero220 what about it is woke
@@XHero220 I bet you haven’t watched it
As someone who hasn’t seen a single ep from the original show, this series had me hooked.
10/10 SEASON 1
I NEED A SEASON 2 NOW!!!
This show is a tarnish on the original X-Men animated series legacy. I once rooted for the Mutants but now the I support the Humans that hunt them down and keep them in line. This show proves to me that Magneto is wrong.
I don't think many were alive or remember that show unless a bunch of old people are watching cartoons
@@DR.DisInfectYou'd be wrong.
I mean it’s good, but it’s not that deep 😂 it’s not even the deepest a superhero show has gone in one season.
I was never a huge X-Men fan, but this show is easily top 5 projects in the entire MCU.
It’s not MCU
@@wielderofthetriforce1934 how so?
@@Tevin-MK The MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, is not in the same universe as the events in the world of X-Men '97. Simply put, as just one clear example, neither in the past nor the future of the X-Men '97 world will Thanos show up and wipe out half of the life in the universe for many years.
@@StellarFireflyGaming-rm2xu okay, well I mean top 5 things to come out during the Disney conglomerate era.
@@TheLotan
I figured that's what you meant. I was mostly just clarifying to @Tevin-MK what exactly was meant by it not being in the MCU. :)
The best show of the year and the second best project in the MCU. It had a great story, characters and animation. The cameos actually have a purpose in the story. The animation is great. The action is probably the best action we’ve ever seen in an X-Men project. Gambit’s death is so emotional.
X-Men97 nailed it. From character to story to execution. I want sp desperately for the MCU to be this good.
We were all proven wrong I Doubted this show so much then the 3 episodes came out and I watched all the 90s episodes before getting into 97 and it was worth it’s so much
Jean and Storm’s relationship was my favorite part of the show.
Magneto was right!
@@TheSnackishOnepretty sure it's more about anti semitism and Zionism. Although that works I guess.
Ya people like Biden and his puppet masters spread hate and lies
This show is brilliant … i can’t never listen to “happy nation” wothout getting Genosha flashbacks … truly GENIUS!!!
I can't never 🤔
@@DR.DisInfect can’t ever* … english is not my first language 🥰 too busy thinking in 3 languages 😗
There has been
a lack of understanding when it came to her struggles and the complexity in her arc this season. I'll get off my soap box now lol Thank you for putting into words what I found so difficult to say!
I watched xmen 97 immediately after watching the og series and holy shit am I in love with this superhero family.
This show made us all realize that the XMen are more than just Wolverine, and the rest of the team are equally badass
No Wolverine will forever be the most badass without question but there are definitely other great ones.
It was a great choice to sideline him and instead focus on pretty much everyone else.
It was a great choice to sideline him and instead focus on pretty much everyone else.
I prefer Xmen to Wolverine and his amazing friends.
Wolverine pretty mid but boomers love him. Gambit got that rizz
i hope this is a sign of things moving in the right direction at marvel - story, character, and themes first - there will still be plenty of room for easter eggs, callbacks, and cameos
I just want to point out that the show is actually mostly hand drawn, though there are a few background shots that use CG for big crowds of characters. The rest is traditional 2D animation.
They gave me a reason to hold onto this Disney Plus thing, thank you Fiege, Bo and company.
14:46 "Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows." - John Betjeman.
The thing is Gambit's death isn't permanent. The post credit scene reveals that Apocalypse is going to ressurect him to be his horseman of death
X-men '97 is a MASTERPIECE!!! The BEST thing Marvel showed us IN YEARS!!!
Episode 5 IS DRAMATIC,TRAGIC AND SO SO SO FUCKING PERFECT. The end made me shivering after the end
A comic accurate Nightcrawler, please! More physical grace, less wirework. Oh, and fuzzy skin, the guy is a cuddler.
AT LONG LAST GRIFF!! Been waiting for your analysis ever since that finale!!!
😌🙏🏻❤️
The theme of personal identity is universal. That’s why X-men succeeds. It doesn’t target one group of people, it targets everyone and everyone can relate. That’s why everyone loves it.
Episode 5 is crazy, but seeing Storm get her powers back made me sob. Something about her story really struck a chord with me and will remain in my mind for a long time.
“You all are an echo of who I am… so let them thunder… for I am lightning!”
Episode 6 doesn't get enough credit for masterfully juxtaposing its parallel narratives.
No other marvel franchise deserve as much attention and love as X-men. Everything else in comparison is just childish.
Can Marvel grow balls and finally have Charles and Magnus kiss?
Like that bar scene was the gayest shit I have seen in my life.
Beautifully said. That last line had me tearing up. So beautiful
Gambit will be back just not quite himself
Cyclops is now one of my favorite Characters, X-Men 97 was the best Marvel show ever made. Absolutely a thing of Beauty.
ONE OF THE BEST BREAKDOWNS ON RUclips!! You made me think of X-Men and my life in such a new light that made me cry. Genuinely a great video about a great season and I hope to see more to come whenever season 2 drops ;.)
Thank you so much! 😊🙏🏻 you definitely will 😏
I was introduced to X-Men through the movies and I've never read the comics or watched any of the cartoons but I'm excited to see how Cyclops is cuz they did him extremely dirty in the movies.
Dude you could teach a class about this, I felt like a student listening to you break down how great this show’s themes are about oppression and I think that’s what’s so awesome about this show. Very well done!!!
...and of course Disney fires Beau DeMayo. #XMen97 was excellent
Yeaahhh...that one's puzzling. Must've been really bad since neither will talk about it.
can’t wait for this after work Griff. i love your views. this show FINALLY had Storm well adapted.
Yes! I loved Storm in this series. Such a great empowerment arc.
Artwork and animation are beautiful. The last decade I’ve seen a lot of artwork and animation turn cheap and this is a breath of fresh air.
x-men 97 is really awesome and freaking fantastic in my opinion
I am a big fan of the 90s tv show series, today took time to see the new '97 series on Disney+. Have seen 4 episodes now, it's absolutely incredible. Great art with matching special effects in combination with a great and thrilling storyline. You can see that all the people that worked on this project were very passionate in delivering an awesome Marvel product that is so true to the original series. 200% ❤
Episode 5 changed me on a molecular level.
I beg to differ. Trish Tilby was good.
Yeah I kinda get tired of Insert Villain is in the right meanwhile they plan on killing millions of people
Can you understand where the likes of Magneto is coming from?

I CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 2!!!!!!
Probably the best thing marvel has made since the first guardians movie
Marvel needs to get some of these creatives to work on the mcu X-men whenever that happens
First x men medium where every character was done justice
Best marvel project by far
loved it sm but i actually cried in episode 5 (trying not to spoil anything)
I put off watching it because of Disney but I am actually surprised it was deep and mature and had great pacing
There isn't a single piece of media with so many "I was wrong" videos made about it
Not me crying at the end . Well done
Think this is what marvel needs to concentrate on more then the films
You know it’s good when you can’t tell it’s 3D until you watch the end credits 😎
Can't wait until season 2.
The original X-men animated series was so faithful to the comics. I’m so happy Marvel Animations is listen to their fans..
Magneto’s speech reminds me of Sagan’s pale blue dot speech. It’s perfection.
Kids today think the Avengers were always a big deal, but they failed to realize that the X-Men has so much movies and shows even if the vast majority of them sks for a reason and this reason is that since the 70's the X-Men were the major super hero team comics of Marvel and. comics in general.
Xmen 97 is a masterpiece!
Xmen 97 is awesome
8:31
Could you say that this speech (as awesome and chilling as it is) is the start of Magneto's downfall/tragedy
Yes, he convinces these people to be tolerant, and it leads to great things like the establishment of Genosha
But it also vindicates the tolerance is extinction idea, by keeping humans at arms length "I am not asking you to love or embrace us" and still holding onto his anger and superiority "dont make me let you down".
By explcitly dividing mutants and humans apart due to their inherent differences, they're tolerated but not accepted, meaning this was always a fragile peace and if they ever came under attack they would be piteied in this "shared world of ours" but never aided (all the more tragic since it was two mutants that attacked Genosha not humanity)
This vindicates Charles' viewpoint of the need to live in harmony with humans but also acknowledges they wouldn't have made it this far without the passion and rightousness of Magnetos's cause.
Meanwhile Cap and Iron man hiding in a bunker.. They know they pissed me off 😂 even daredevil and spidey fighting and they hiding
I worry Disney will do what Disney does with season 2 now the show runner of season 1 is gone.
i love x men, always have, i think i really love your adoration and respect for this almost as much as i love x men 97
Xmen 97 is the best Marvel projects since The Infinity Saga and Insomniac Spiderman games to me.

Just wanted your take
Bastion doesn't have the X-Gene. I wouldn't call him a mutant. He's a human/sentinel hybrid via nanomachine sperm.
Well, the X gene is developed in many ways in the comics, high exposure to radiation, or even experiments (deadpool for example).
And Bastion IS a mutant with the X gene, since Xavier found him with Cerebro. The gene simply developed thanks to Nimrod wierd sperm.
It saddens me that after season 2 we won't have the same mind behind it
