I just love that the mcu focuses on irrelevant d list characters instead of the cool A list characters. It’s such a good idea to give us movies and shows on characters people ignore like the three heroes from the marvels, Agatha, Echo, Iron heart, and Okeye and wait years to make Disney plus shows on A list street level characters daredevil and punisher, completely ignore other A list heroes like luke cage, ghost rider, and Jessica jones, and completely f up characters like Blade. It was also a bold decision to make many of these new characters either bland and have no personality or obnoxious and quippy.
I want to point out that Jessica Jones is definitely not A-List, and Luke Cage was pretty much unknown by the general public for decades, being popular in the 70s and mostly forgotten until the Netflix series, and even then he's B-Tier at best. The problem isn't not getting A-Tier superheroes for the shows because, really, if the shows were good it wouldn't matter if they decided to dig up obscure characters and base shows around them. As Mauler likes to say, people always come up with excuses and weird reasons as to why the shows suck, but the core issue is, and has always been, that the writing just sucks because they keep hiring bad writers, or writers with little or no experience, to write these shows. I mean, what's your cope for how Guardians Of The Galaxy became S-Tier characters capable of being successful mostly outside of the MCU continuity despite originating as an obscure group before the first movie, to the point where it was famously predicted to be the first major failure in the MCU?
@@qty1315 I agree with the general sentiment, but is is still interesting WHY they do what they do. Guardian of the the Galaxy was made because Gunn like obcsure characters, but I doN't belvie most of the Marvel decision made by guys like him. The fact thet they choose very unknown characters is strange as you would think they want to milk the bigger ones. Though the sad thing is, I think they use obscure characters because they have 0 trust in any creators they give money to make new shows so they want to avoid ruining the bigger ones, or the other possbility thet people who make this shows are want unknown characters because they can morph them more easily as not as many fan will be attacking them for ruining their's favorite characters. In both case it is pretty terrible state of affairs.
Well it's Disney+ that's like their straight to DVD line, the A list gets the movies. And honestly so far it's kind of entertaining. Will it be as good as WandaVision nah probably not, but is it still enjoyable so far yes.
@@reactiondavant-garde3391 Writers/directors/studios like to use obscure characters because they are a mostly blank slate where they can go any direction and not have a mob of torch bearing angry villagers yelling at them. People are choosing to hate it because it is what keeps their sites going. I think this show is good and I dont recognise a lot of the criticisms of it.

Columbo has shown that you can make an entertaining mystery when you already know the five w’s (who, what, when, where, and why). But it takes deft storytelling to allow the characters to catch up with what we know. Agatha ain’t that.
Columbo worked because the character was compelling and competent and you loved to root for him. And as unique as Columbo was, Monk managed to recreate the formula in an almost seamless fashion, AND add drama and stakes to the equation. So it can absolutely be done. It can. I don't know WHY the screenwriters can't learn that though.
That's what makes the least sense. Who is the audience for this show? It's obviously not meant for the guys who like Marvel Superheroes. And I don't imagine the people who were fans of 'Charmed' or 'Designing Women' are even aware, or care about any Marvel programming on Disney Plus?
@@clownofthetimes6727 Given that the actors themselves called it the 'gayest marvel show ever', I would expect a better question is where are there NOT lesbians.

Az idea about Agatha waking up to realize the entire city is empty and everyone she was talking with was an illusion could be a great start for the show. Heck, have the city be surrounded by a big wall, with guards from SWORD.
The whole "we won't reveal the teen guy's name" is also cringe because we know it's Billy, Scarlett Witch's kid from Wandavision - who is a nothing character and means nothing in the MCU just like the rest of this show.
Instagram has a bunch of women gushing about Agatha, and it sounds really scripted. "What if you had a frenemy that was your secret crush and then THIS happened? OMG it's Agatha All Along!!!"
This company will never go out of business. White moms keep letting their children be raised by Disney. I see colleges ,and see the final results. Let's just call it out for what it is.
Instead of being a “toxic” fan and hating on the show, I’ll just be nice to those that will watch it. I’m happy for the 14 viewers of this show who are more than likely paid influencer shills that fake their excitement about every Disney production, rate everything 10/10 and then attack critics who dare criticize Disney. I’m sure shills like doomblazer, honest trailers, reel rejects, and new rockstars will have a grand ol time watching yet another poorly written Disney plus show no one asked for about a bunch of lame irrelevant d list characters.
Those shills are just shouting into the wind. They can't make people watch or make any of these shows successful I just look at them like I do that weird guy that stands on the street corner downtown shouting bible verses over a guitar amp at full volume. Neither of them are winning any converts by being crazy.
I've watched the first two episodes and so far it's been pretty good. Is it Oscar worthy? Nah but it's an enjoyable little series so far. Not everything on Disney+ has to be top tier epic, sometimes a good B show is ok. I'm interested to see where this goes as a show. But some people take entertainment today way to seriously.
Ever think of doing a Rotten Tomatoes parody rating system? Critical Tomatoes? We need an alternate. Podcasts and movie reviews are better ofc, but just to pour salt on their wounds… something extra could be used.
Call it Salad Bar, after the scene in Robin Hood: Men in Tights where all the villagers are throwing vegetables at Cary Elwes. The more money a movie makes, the more "lettuce" it gets.
Love it or hate it, this whole "trapped within a delusion" thing was already done brilliantly in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I don't recall which season or episode, and in the spirit of Drinker, I'm too drunk to look it up right now. But Buffy is shown as a patient in a mental institution, intercut with her fighting monsters, then back to her in the institution with her parents pleading with her to come back to reality. And it is actually heartbreaking when she turns away, her eyes shift to the "thousand yard stare" and we cut back to her killing monsters. It was actually done well enough that I was left wondering which world was the real world of the show. Was the entire BtVS show a fever dream? Great stuff. [And don't bother me with crapping on Joss. I don't care. The show was amazing.]

Watched up to the interrogation room scene. The acting was so terrible and over the top that I had to give up. And they promoted this as True Detective meets MCU 😂
Man.. this makes me sad. Like, I knew this show would probably be bad, but.. I have to agree; Aubrey Plaza (I have no idea how to spell her name, sorry) really does just play herself--which is fine, some actors have gotten by doing that their whole careers--but it makes me miss the range some have. One of my favorites to point out to people, watch the first Iron Man movie, and also watch A Scanner Darkly. HOLY CRAP, Robert Downey Jr.'s range is INSANE. I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS HIM the first time I watched A Scanner Darkly! (Great movie, btw; phenomenal book, too--the movie stayed true to the book, and deserves to be remembered for it, as well as the great acting.) Anyway, that's all, but it's pretty entertaining when you realize it, y'know? Just food for thought.
It would have been smarter doing a rip-off of Angel Heart where Agatha spends the whole first season as a gritty detective rediscovering her true identity... And Aubrey Plaza could have been a sarcastic version of DeNiro's Louis Cypher.
Disney has a new thing if finding the most annoying actor imagineable and then putting them front and center in their hype campaign - with Snow White it was Rachel Weird-weird Ziegler, and with Acolyte you had two for the price of one, Miss Discourse and Madame Yasss Yasss. Now with Agatha - which actually has some really great actresses - they put some MAD magazine mascot bobblehead dude and focus on some huge "mystery" around him. No. One. Cares.
I think Marvel completely forgot that only Agatha was still under a spell as punishment. The towns people were free. Wanda had no idea she had done all that stuff, until after it was over. It was all from the greif of Visions death. So the cop thing involving others, is nonsense. As you guys said. Where is S.W.O.R.D.??
The whole town of Westview will be on SWORD's radar since Agatha resides there; it's a given that they're at least observing. Whether they'll get involved remains to be seen. And Agatha is the only one who was under a spell, not sure why you think any differently.
@@Neiri-qg2wk Can you not read and comprehend. I started by saying only Agatha was under a spell. Maybe try reading sentences, not each individual word seperately.🤣🤣

My husband is loyal to the MCU while I lost interest after Endgame. So that means I secondhand watch these spinoffs when he puts them on. I wouldn't say the first two episodes are terrible on a She-Hulk level, but not the best of the best. Kind of feel like these shows exist to be background noise while I wash dishes or something.
Yeah, She-Hulk is still the worst MCU show. Agatha is not terrible, just kinda meh with some cringe moments. They had a good premise, but they ruined it as always.
You are absolutely correct, but not to "watch" when you wash dishes, but to occasionally glance at when you are on your phone swiping TikTok or Instagram
It's targeted to older women. It's okay. There's elements that could've been done better. Kathyrn is overacting, the effeminate boy was a mistake in casting and I don't care about the other supporting characters. But, I think this journey could be interesting to see how Agatha gains her powers back or if she gains them back at all.
The thing is there are probably hundreds of older shows or more that people haven't watched that are great, or tons of videos from channels that people could watch or listen to or put on an older music station and discover some hidden gem songs they never heard before. I don't know why anyone would want to watch slop and put money in Disney's pocket to make new slop unless they really liked it, if so then more power to them.
I'm glad to watch this. After giving up on 'The Acolyte,' and 'Rings of Power' ... inwardly groaning at these cringe highlights is the best way to enjoy geek pop culture... ...What a tragic state of nerd life...
I’ve just realized the whole plot of episode 1 is exactly like the scenario of Shutter Island. The protagonist (in this case Agatha) is living out a delusional fantasy and the people around them (the townsfolk) are playing along for a mysterious purpose. But the issue is, unlike in Shutter Island, the townsfolk have absolutely no reason to deceive Agatha. They gain nothing from this. In the former, it’s revealed that the main character isn’t a detective, but actually a patient at the mental hospital he’s investigating, and the “case” he’s working on is actually an elaborate experiment conducted by the facility’s staff. Just as AZ said, the townsfolk have absolutely no reason to stay there. First, Wanda kept them prisoner there and tortured them. Second, why would anybody want to live in proximity to a dangerous person like Agatha? It’s like what Jay Goodwin commented at 11:04; it’d be like staying in your neighbourhood where there’s an armed nuke, just because they’ve put a bike lock on it. And of course there’s absolutely no mystery there, since they completely scrap the whole idea by revealing everything at the end of the episode.
I thought it was a lot better than she hulk, secret invasion, the marvels, ms marvel, pretty much everything recent. It’s still not super amazing, but I think it’s a step in the right direction. Wandavision isn’t very fresh in my head, so maybe I’m missing some important details. Agatha’s acting as a cop was pretty bad, but maybe that’s supposed to be part of the whole “her under a spell” thing. I still felt there was a bit of an agenda at play making Wicken gay. Not sure if that is comic accurate, but it felt a little forced
That winking face in the thumbnail looks a lot like when I joke pretend having a seizure, and you tell me that is a face made by an actress in a big-budget Marvel Movie
Kathryn Hahn was in a cop procedural called "Crossing Jordan" wayyy back in the day which was technically a drama. She was a quirky, sensitive hippy type of character.
The Westview sign at the beginning shows about half the residents it did during Wandavision. So a bunch of people did leave. But this was an economically depressed town, so a lot of people might just not be able to afford to up and leave. Also I don't think the residents ever knew who/what Agatha really was. Sure, she and Wanda had a fight above the town, but they were so high up, nobody would have been able to make out Agatha's face, even with the best binoculars.
I’m not going to be critical for Disney on this series. I don’t seem to understand the point of being too critical on a D marvel character while as myself being extremely critical to a history changer like the acolyte. They don’t have that same “wavelength” that i should be critical at. That’s my observation.
Why do we keep having spon off shows where the villain then gets a spin off show where they dont act even remotely like they did in the first show? Bobba fett, Echo, Loki, Agatha... waiting for the "Thanos: The Teenage Titan Years" or something where hes not a tyrant, hes a misunderstood genius and was gay and thats why people distrust him. He only snapped away the bigots
Kathryn Hahn definitely follows the Catherine O'Hara/Molly Shannon school of hammy comedy acting. And for me she went from relative unknown to overexposed in less than 3 years; I won't be watching her in anything for a long time.
I often tell people the hardest part of being on a panel like this is when guys like Az and Fringy are just slaying it, I can't add anything to the conversation Just sit back and let the boys cook lol.
They heard Agatha Harkness and witch and decided to make utter garbage that doesn't resemble the character whatsoever. So pretty standard for Hollywood, I suppose.
Episode 1 should be a truman´s show, with SWORD buying all the town and getting the old neighbours swap with sword agents to prevent Agatha to remember who she is. The she discovered the truth, escaped, and shit starts. Aubrey Plaza could be a sword agent looking for her or something.
2024. Maybe we hire better storytellers, writers, artists, and humans who actually went to some kind of acting school or a high school to learn how to construct a strory.
@mrlsoarezz I think mostly because it's an afterthought in the show around halfway through the first episode. Had they played that up for 3 episodes, I think it could have had something interesting. I also think they are really leaning into Wanda not being dead.
12:25 so they basically stole the story from "shutter island", gave Agatha Leonardo DiCaprio's part from it as her intro. They really can't think of anything original, can they? I'll just rewatch shutter island again than give any of this attention.
That would likely be SWORD apprehending her if they were to do so. And yes it doesn't make a lot of sense. Once Wanda died, SWORD would've been keeping very close tabs on Agatha if not taking her into custody altogether. No way would she be free to go roadtripping and jumping dimensions.
The problem I have with the premise - that Wanda's death frees Agatha, as far as I can tell - is that it's already established in the MCU that it's insanely hard to break a dead person's spell, even for cosmic-level characters (as Strange tells Squidward in Infinity War). Am I wrong?
Wanda's death isn't enough to break her out. In the first two episodes, the Teen and whoever Aubrey Plaza is both play a role in freeing her. The Teen (who I assume is Wiccan) has a line about it that might be a little blink and you miss it. That's what his chanting in the "interrogation room" was about. It's partly why she changes her mind about keeping him around.
Maybe Aubrey Plaza plays almost all her roles about the same, that's probably for what she's getting hired. Where she was really good is the series Legion, which next to Daredevil is the best Marvel show I've seen so far and almost the whole cast is doing a good job in it. So with good material and propper directing she can act. Still a crazy role though...
I liked Legion until about the last season or two. It started getting a little woke. The way the chick that could switch bodies said she felt guilty her life for what she did to her mother and stepfather, then changed it and somehow blamed him. Even though she basically graped him, got him locked up and ruined her mother's life. Then she started being really hateful and selfish to her boyfriend even though he was going through mental issues and hunted by a demon. I think around the time of the last two seasons was when Hollywood got really big about not letting men, especially straight white men be the center of any show or film and it just got worse from there. The same thing happened with SYFY's the Magicians. Even though it was based on a book they decided to kill off the white male lead and even made it a point in the show that they told the character he had to die because he was a white male and he was taking attention away from the females and minorities, so he had to 'do the right thing' and choose to die. The shows ratings tanked after that and was soon canceled.
Just wanted to add, they did establish rules in the first two episodes. After she's free, it shows her going to drive and realizing her "car" was actually this crazy set up in her dining room. The entire time, she is mostly in her house, wandering around her neighborhood, and not going anywhere - the neighbors have been bringing her food. It has an "I Am the Cheese" vibe where she thinks she's traveling around, when in reality she's just interacting with her home and the people in close vicinity to it.
These guys rambled for 17 minutes while making it clear that they didn't pay much attention to the show. They basically hate it because it is targeted to older women. The show has issues but it's not horrible and they're clearly not critically analyzing it.
@@Neiri-qg2wk Yeah, I'm a little annoyed with this one. My first memory of Kathryn Hahn, from two decades ago, has been from an actual cop show - Crossing Jordan. She played the most straightforward, non-comedic character there. So did Mahershala Ali, by the way.
SPOILER ALERT: In season 2 of 'Agatha All Along' she is a cop again and turns bad - really bad - shooting ALL the black people she can find. Just for kicks. Then the Wakanda Forever MARVEL heroes turn up and utterly destroy her (Leslye Headland is writing and directing season 2).
Then Agatha shoots Okoyeia and repeatedly shoots her saying, "oh look what my primitive weapons done to you. How could such a primitive weapon get you. Maybe you should call Hawkeye, his weaponry is as advanced is your!" Shoots her in the head.
Supposedly Marvel has already canceled Season 2. This month marks the 60th anniversary of the premiere of "Bewitched" with Elizabeth Montgomery playing Samantha. If that show was produced today, she would be a lesbian married to a transgender Transman. It really is sad how the MCU and Lucasfilm are so terrible.
Tbf, they don't just screw the pooch on A tier characters only. They do it to all of them lol. A, b c, d lmnop characters all get it!
It is tough to do that with Captain America. Captain America has to be Captain America or a lot of people will be angry.

Disney should get it over with and rebrand as the Lesbian Entertainment Network.
Lol that would be the most honest thing they ever do
That's what makes the least sense. Who is the audience for this show? It's obviously not meant for the guys who like Marvel Superheroes. And I don't imagine the people who were fans of 'Charmed' or 'Designing Women' are even aware, or care about any Marvel programming on Disney Plus?

Instead of being a “toxic” fan and hating on the show, I’ll just be nice to those that will watch it. I’m sure shills like doomblazer, honest trailers, reel rejects, and new rockstars will have a grand ol time watching yet another poorly written Disney plus show no one asked for about a bunch of lame irrelevant d list characters.
I noticed few of them dont even write new review. Just rewrite old reviews and change names in them & post them.
They’re both equally garbage and both are uninteresting. They’re skippable.
It’s interesting that young people express the exaggeration of 50s and 60s sitcomS… and yet growing up at that time, I remember feeling that television was reflecting back on me, my reality… Typical middle-class North American… We were all kind of like that back, then… At least most of us… But also, I think television was a combination of reality, play, and the stuff of ideals, and dreams… the playbook has changed… As a reflection of society, I do not think present television is an exemplar of a better style.… Ideals were more towards order back, then… Coming out of the generation that went to war… Now I believe we are living with the generation that came out of the 60s any inclination is more toward chaos.
HOUSE came and went and I didn't begin watching it until after its TEN year run had ended. And I only lasted for the first two seasons.
When a show becomes popular by its third season or so it begins overdoing the "We know we're super popular and here's why" thing. Nothing new can even make it that far because all it is is "The Message".
Aubrey Plaza was Aubrey Plaza in Parks & Rec... a couple movies... the video where she's jilling off... she pretty much is always Aubrey Plaza.

No. One. Cares.
Drinker warming up for this one 0:15 🤣

I think Marvel completely forgot that only Agatha was still under a spell as punishment. The towns people were free. Wanda had no idea she had done all that stuff, until after it was over. It was all from the greif of Visions death. So the cop thing involving others, is nonsense. As you guys said. Where is S.W.O.R.D.??
Marvel did not forgot anything. Agatha IS the only one under the spell when the show starts. It is not that difficult to understand.

Dark times. Dark times.

With this one Drinker could've just said: "It sucks" then his outro and that's it.
Wanda conversed with Agatha in full earshot of the Westview residents before casting the memory spell; they know what she is.
@@Neiri-qg2wk I'm not going to rewatch wandavision, so I'll have to take your word for it.
I’m not going to be critical for Disney on this series. I don’t seem to understand the point of being too critical on a D marvel character while as myself being extremely critical to a history changer like the acolyte. They don’t have that same “wavelength” that i should be critical at.

Kathryn Hahn definitely follows the Catherine O'Hara/Molly Shannon school of hammy comedy acting. And for me she went from relative unknown to overexposed in less than 3 years; I won't be watching her in anything for a long time.

You don't need to go to school to be able to write. You have to have good imagination and a bit of common sense.
In the great words of Drink, "Nah, it'll be fine."
@mrlsoarezz I think mostly because it's an afterthought in the show around halfway through the first episode. Had they played that up for 3 episodes, I think it could have had something interesting. I also think they are really leaning into Wanda not being dead.
@mrlsoarezz But where were the shenanigans? It was a waste of viewers' time.
12:25 so they basically stole the story from "shutter island", gave Agatha Leonardo DiCaprio's part from it as her intro. They really can't think of anything original, can they? I'll just rewatch shutter island again than give any of this attention.
If everyone knows who Agatha is, then forget about the rest of the town. Why does SHIELD not arrest her?
That would likely be SWORD apprehending her if they were to do so. And yes it doesn't make a lot of sense. Once Wanda died, SWORD would've been keeping very close tabs on Agatha if not taking her into custody altogether. No way would she be free to go roadtripping and jumping dimensions.
I guess Agatha was “boring” All Along?
Wanda isn't dead, she was likely saved by Chthon, unless Olsen is done with Marvel.
It could be different kinds of spells. The protection from Dr Strange was specifically made to last past Stranges death.
TND
sounds like they somehow made the first episode of a new show a filler episode 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻brilliant, absolutely brilliant!
Katharine Hahn was in "Crossing Jordan" long ago, which was a far more dramatic role, and she did well.
Agreed.
She was good as the mom in "The Visit" as well.
Plus we still have a few Marvel projects coming out in the pipeline including "Ironheart" and "Captain America 4". If Disney Marvel is changing direction, we won't see any changes until 2026 or 2027, if we do.
And Uncle Arthur would be straight.
Is writing really this difficult? They should be paid less, not more, if this is the garbage they keep coming up with.
Dam Az! Your looking great!
Nice job mate keep it up!
Space lesbian witches
Wrong order... it's Lesbian Space Witches.
I wish we could get a Constantine TV show, we had one, it wasn't too bad. That's the magic character I want to see, not Agatha.
No view gang
agatha needs to rediscover her powers and in the process discovers, that she was awesome all along- what an exciting, modern formula! will season 2 be about the depth, of her awesome new powers?
Kathryn Hahn is about as funny as finding out your cat has died.
Exactly. And I don't even have a cat
Thank you! I'm glad someone said it they keep putting her in movies like she's funny!! she has NEVER been funny she's as funny as a school bus fire
@@stonerbaby895 She's the female version of Will Ferrell. Every time I see him I want to bang nails into my own head with the phone book.
