Based on the three movies that she's in, the force came very easily to her, and she started to succumb to her emotions... That thumbnail reminds me of Shad’s (much better) idea for the sequels. Have Rey start out OP and let Finn become a Jedi, have Rey’s talent inflate her ego and push her to the Dark Side before the climax where Finn defeats Rey and helps prevent the rise of Darkness.
Im pretty sure it was the closer look who also had an alternate sequel trilogy where rey turned evil but had a redemption before she turned truly evil. I swear Disney could grab anyone off RUclips and create a trilogy infinitely better than the one we ended up with.
Still makes me sad to see how bad Disney dropped the ball for every character in that trilogy. It felt like no one had meaningful development or consistent characterization.
Saying Rey is the most important part of current Star Wars, is like saying Cancer is essentially for life... Everything wrong with Star Wars and the death of all their legends can put at the feet of Rey, because everyone knows Rey is Kennedy's self insert and the biggest Mary Sue in modern entertainment.
The OT produced at least 12 iconic characters that became household names even in households that weren't enamored with Star Wars. Like even my Grandfather who fought in WWII and thought movies are a waste of time could name Han, Luke, Princess Leia and Darth Vadar. At a stretch he could name Obiwan and the Droids. And if Yoda, Jabba the Hutt or Boba Fett were in the NYT crossword puzzle he'd probably get it after a think. The Sequels on the other hand produced no iconic character. They are trying to make Rey happen but Disney doesn’t realise its not about "the character" its about "the characterS" and how they relate to each other. Disney failed to build Finn and Poe and Kylo and Maz Kannatta and... anyone. ALL the characters in the Sequel Trilogy were completely disposable and most of them were disposed.
Fin and Po would have been legendary if they had been written right. Having a turned imperial and a badass pilot could have recaptured some of the outlaw/rebel feel from the OT.

@@Towboatin Yea, its super hard to be excited for star wars under disney. I hoped George selling Star Wars would improve it after the terrible ep 1-3 but damn, we didn't know how good we had it with him under control.
The sad thing is, i really liked Daisy Ridley as an actress, but Disney had to screw everything up with The Message. I also really liked Finn and his potential which was also ruined.
If the assertion that Rey is starwars' one remaining asset takes the cake, then you can be sure that it's a New England Cheesecake that is being taken over to the centre table at "the view" where it can be mercilessly devoured by the "modern audience" 🤔
Even if Andor S2 is good (and it may likely be decent) and I mean really good, it won't be enough to revive Star Wars. Too many are apathetic to Disney Star Wars. Too many have abandoned Disney+ and will not even see the new season of Andor, even if word of mouth is good. Disney does not seem to understand (or refuses to) that those currently in charge/entrenched at Lucasfilm are not capable of delivering something the fans want... it always takes someone outside of Lucasfilm (John Favreau, Tony Gilroy) to deliver something the fans might be interested in. Anything with Rey at the center is dead on arrival. Star Wars must pass out of Disney's hands for there to be any chance and Disney will never let it go without something "catastrophic" happening to the company 1st.
To answer Brooks question. Create a series that expands Reys arch. It might retcon a few things, but now the cat's out of tue bag give her back story. How did she end up on the planet? How is she kin to Sidious? Where are her parents? Insert some training and character development. Remove the Mary Sue power buff and giver her flaws. If that successful do the same with the other players. If you think about it. All her peers in those movies except rose has the potential for an extremely badass hero's journey.
I'd say with some thought put into it, you could make Rose Tico a decent character - trying to live up to her sister's image, or struggling to live in her shadow, having to live without a sibling, or having to face the fact that she sometimes have bad judgment (knocking Finn away from his target when he was about to sacrifice himself, etc.). All the characters could work if they had the work put into them TO work, by someone who knows how to do it.
Have you seen the Marvel poster where Deadpool replaced She Hulk? I had to laugh. Bought Deadpool and Wolverine and I think it's better than most have critiqued it at. The battle in the mini van was epic.
I remember Kathleen Kennedy or somebody on top saying they're not making Star wars for the fans are making Star wars for themselves and that tells you everything you need to know
Andor is the only one I'm looking forward to. Because it actually looks and feels like Star Wars and not someone's idiological circle jerk. It has a story which is good enough to keep me invested and it has characters that are interesting.
There's no way to fix the current SW timeline through writing. Not without pretending that the sequels were some sort of Force premonition of the worst possible outcome.
If the first Rey movie hadn't been a copy of A New Hope, and they hadn't completely deleted anything Skywalker and replaced it with Rey,... maybe it would have been something. Now however it's just bad. Everybody who grew up with Star Wars (and that includes the prequals) is, at best, meh about her. As for me, I never saw the final movie in 'the trilogy' because I hated what they did to Skywalker (doing Solo in was horrid in itself, but they doubled down in their 'murder the old' agenda). My daughter (10) is growing up with old Star Wars and already knows that Rey is shit. New Star Wars doesn't exist. The last good entry was the first drop of SWTOR online.
I think you are right about this. Do you think it changes things if Rey opens a school and trains Jedi/Sith or do you think that kind of story is still in danger of becoming a reskinned Anakin story?
They could make it popular again IF they hired genuine story tellers and directors. They would have to take a chance, but that would mean dropping the Id Po and those at the top will NEVER let that go. They're committed to it, it's their world and will NEVER be able to look beyond that.
I hate to admit this, but I think she might be an asset to Star Wars. But I _don't_ mean that as a compliment. Rather, that's how far the franchise has fallen since Disney took over.
Best way to fix Rey: go full Palpatine After Rey said "Rey Skywalker", pause; red glow in her eyes going brighter as it fades to black with Palpatine cackling in the background getting louder.
Rey is a poorly developed character designed to send a message that one gender is superior physically, emotionally and mentally, and played by an actor of privilege and family connections, who is wooden and of little talent as is proved by her lack of roles since the trilogy.
If Disney thinks that Rey is the most valuable cinematic asset they have, then by comparison they must think that everything else is less valuable than garbage because Rey Palpatine *IS* garbage. You can't give her merchandise away. It's already dumpster fodder.
Im convinced KK is purposely trying to kill Star Wars. Nobody can be that self centered, right? She knows damn well Rey is a horrible character. She knows that the trilogy Disney made is horrible, and doesn’t make sense as a stand alone trilogy, and especially doesn’t make sense in the entire franchise. It’s as if she never watched episodes 1-6, and just went based off what someone that isn’t a big fan could describe in 5 minutes. I don’t understand what Disney is thinking. This seems very intentional.
I still don't know where the Old Republic/Sith Empire style movie is. A bunch of people would go just to see the cool battles, despite having no faith in their story telling skills.
Full disclosure: I don’t dislike Rey, but I completely understand where the hate comes from. She had almost no training, other than like a week with Luke, but yet she already seemed to do most things better than every Jedi who came before her.
For me, Rogue Squadron was a home run. My thinking is they deserted it, when they tried to completely ignore legends, and then released they were setting themselves up for failure. Instead, they should embrace legends, and make Rogue Squadron a TV show roughly in line with the books - maybe get rid of the force stuff for Corran Horn. Otherwise, I think it would be great. They can even use Dedra Meero from Andor to replace the Ysanne Isaard character as they are basically the same person.
What they should do is turn Rey into a crazy person that tried to murder one of her old friends then have her feel so bad about it that she runs away and isn't heard from for many many years and then have her only come back in episode 10 at the very end for like 2 seconds, just enough to see she is there. Then in Episode 11, they should kill her off because she Forced too hard. Do that, and then all the wokesters that claim those movies were great and well written will understand the frustration and disappointment of every true Star Wars fan who saw it happend to THEIR childhood hero. Except it would only be a fraction of the frustration because Rey got a new movie shat out a few years later while the OG fans had to wait DECADES for it. OG fans could've seen a new the original Star Wars movie when they were 10 years old, and have GREAT GRANDCHILDREN by now it has been so long. Not just grandkids, but great grandkids. That is how much time people waited for new Star Wars movies and a continuation to Luke's story. If they did that to Rey, the liberal wokesters would lose their minds like Donald Trump won the election all over again. And it's not like they actually care about Star Wars or would watch it, they just want to have their strong female protagonist replacing male characters. They don't care what she does beyond that.
she still thinks she's the best thing that ever happened to Star Wars - either that, or she hates Lucas so much that she's still revelling in destroying his work
They do have some of a point. Every woman I've spoken to loved rey even if they disliked the sequels. I'd say that means there is at least some unmined potential, but given how the sequels have turned out thats a really rocky start especially when theres no new rey content that brings the character back into a setting with good reception.
For the love of God stop calling it the Skywalker saga somebody else can't come in 20 years after the story is done add three movies and say that it's a part of the original story.
That thumbnail was very cool, Ray as a Sith would finally give her a decent story; everything came too easy, she even stole the name Skywalker. Perfect for a sith backstory
There's legends like Luke, Han and Leia. And then there's phonies, like Rey that shouldn't be looked on like they are special, they definitely aren't! 😡😡😡😡😡
Bring out a new Solo movie where he and Chewbacca are doing what they do best, being smugglers. No love interest, nothing like that but just those two against the Galaxy. That's how it was before he met up with Luke and Kenobi. If done right, that would be an amazing film to see. Just my two cents.
A movie of how Kathleen/Disney destroyed the franchise would be levels above anything a writer could come up with whilst keeping the Disney 'canon' in place.
The new Star Wars should start with Episode 10 and intentionally write everything as anti-canon, as gay, as woke, as everything wrong with Disney SW; and maybe it will circle around to something watchable...there's only so fucked up you can get before you arrive at something acceptable. Let the snake eat its tale.
They aren't wrong in the Rey is the only cinematic character they've got at their disposal becasue they killed everyone else off or characters got relegated to back ground and the cup board is completely bare. Their only choice is to recast the roles of the big three to younger actors to do something prior to the creative black hole that is the ST or do a big time jump backwards or forwards. If it was me I'd do a faithful adapation of the EU Darth Bane trilogy EU books set a thousand years before TPM. But that would mean LucasFIlm having to swallow their pride and acknowledge yes they do have source material to draw from.
Lets start a petition for Sidney Sweeney to play a boundy hunter in a gruff grounded Star Wars Movie where she has to do a job for some high criminal kingpin alien (no Jedi, maybe sith, include some driod companions, have a complicated backstory, because you know she's a bounty hunter) and nothing goes right for her. Even fully clothed, I think she'd fill more seats in the theatre (in my opinion she's a better actor than Daisy Ridley regardless)
Without decanonizing anything. I'd RE-CANONIZE the force unleashed story. Tweak the writing a bit to account for the new origin for the rebellion. And just make a series around starkiller and bring in his actor as the main protag. Seeing as he's been with star wars anyway since darth maul.
Let Rey be a skywalker in Tattoine. If there’s a place further from the centre of the galaxy - she’s on it. She can make her dinner using the force - and farm moisture. Then realise she’s actually stolen that farm from the Lars family. That Jedi don’t own property. That any teachings are likely to be based on emotions and lived experience, ie. Sith. Disney created a hero Sith. 😂
As long as they keep holding on to the Didney Wars continuity, things are going to continue to fail. They need to declare everything they've made so far non-canon and return to Legends Canon, just as most fans have. They are deep, deep, *deep* in sunk cost fallacy at this point, and they desperately need to shake it.
I think I'd make the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy setting it between RotJ and TFA. It allows you to ignore the new movies and series, explores the time between the old and new. Could even explain how Luke really ended up so broken down and maybe give context to what happened with Ben Solo.
A long time ago, on a channel far, far away, a little sketch comedy group called Studio C did a skit about how Lucas Films was going to end up making a Star Wars movie for every single character who appeared in the movies, including each and every stormtrooper. Apparently Disney saw that skit and decided it was a good idea.
The reaction to the Rey movie confirms that Star Wars fans have reached peak apathy.

I'd love to see Disney go bankrupt, but I don't want them to keep taking a dump on the single most important series to my childhood. I loved Star Wars so much when I was a kid. Even after all this time it's a bit depressing to see it treated like this.
I love how everyone someone says “Star Wars Trilogy” the first reaction is laughter
Mostly because that has not been applicable to the franchise since 1998, and because there's never going to be another trilogy made after the sequels.
Or audible groaning.
I guess Disney really hates money.
BlackRock owns a controlling share in Disney. These are Wall Street investment bankers. Of course they don't care about profits, this is the new economic reality where Wall Street banks print money. Who cares about profits when you can conjure money out of thin air? They care about power and shaping the world according to their ideas and interests.
A rich company like Blackrock are paying Disney to pander to the liberals audience. They may lose revenue, but it does not matter to them because they are still getting paid by Blackrock to pander their political ideology.
They just love wokeness more.
They hate good characters.
Hates business the most, being a business is about more than money. Its about winning over everyone else. But they love losing.😂😂😂
Rey is an asset like a rusted out 1990 Toyota Camry that doesn't start, good for a least a few bucks scrap metal. That's about it.
Now that is both a beautiful metaphor and 100% accurate. You are a contender for winning the internet today.
That's too much value... Rey is worth absolutely nothing.
Starwars would be more valuable as a brand if Disney had literally made nothing.
Makes sense, rarity is kinda why things have value in the first place

Well no shit sherlock.

I'm ok with them making Rogue One then stopping and not making any more.
I promise I can make a better Star Wars movie than Disney with my iPhone. I’m not even joking

Only if you have a whole bunch of Star Wars action figures.
Based on the three movies that she's in, the force came very easily to her, and she started to succumb to her emotions... That fear led to anger, and that anger turns her to the dark side, and because she is a palpatine, she is fully corrupted and the pupils that she was teaching have to band together to take her down.
And that's off the top of my head
I like the idea of Rey going to the dark side. I agree with another poster who said if this was done, you'd have to be careful not to just reskin the Anakin story. Would her pupils take her down or would they consider themselves heirs to the Skywalker name as well?
Make the lot of them fall to the dark side and introduce Jade and Kenobi Skywalker to come out of hiding and destroy her Palpatine order.
@@curtbalch2321 I have no idea who Jade and Kenobi Skywalker are, but I like this idea.

I say bring Thimothy Zahn and George Lucas together to co-write the script, and hire Spielberg for the first one. Have him co-produce it as well, just to work with his old pal George. Even if it doesn't work in the end, it would accomplish many people's wish to see those two working together again, and insures profitability at least for the first movie !
How many books / comics / video games have they made on the new trilogy??? They are still pinning all new productions to Return of the Jedi which came out in 1983. That's insane.

I think they should make a Jabba the Hutt and Kay Vess movie. Mauler would love that.

no Booger sucks and he is the one who killed Star Wars, he killed Pacific Rim as well
Im pretty sure it was the closer look who also had an alternate sequel trilogy where rey turned evil but had a redemption before she turned truly evil. I swear Disney could grab anyone off RUclips and create a trilogy infinitely better than the one we ended up with.
Still makes me sad to see how bad Disney dropped the ball for every character in that trilogy. It felt like no one had meaningful development or consistent characterization.

I don't.
If the assertion that Rey is starwars' one remaining asset takes the cake, then you can be sure that it's a New England Cheesecake that is being taken over to the centre table at "the view" where it can be mercilessly devoured by the "modern audience" 🤔
That's a great list of Disney acceptable creators near the start.
A perfect list of warnings against soya, plastics and phytoestrogens.
Make Rey the villain. Make her actually a real Sith who managed to actually tarnish the Skywalker name.

Daisy Ridley's severe face can't sell a new set of films, never gonna happen.
I would just do a old republic trilogy. There is so much material that the fans like. If they dont insert politics too much it could be a decent idea.
Maybe Rey going to the dark side would make for a good series, but then you would have to make it so she isn't just an Anakin reskin
I think you are right about this. Do you think it changes things if Rey opens a school and trains Jedi/Sith or do you think that kind of story is still in danger of becoming a reskinned Anakin story?
An evil Disney princess would be different, though who would be the 'goody'?
Would have to be another female character in Disney LucasFilm.
@@Valen-mh9fh Seems like a fitting rival for a charmed Mary Sue would be some unlucky loser. I don't know if that fits the Disney Message either.
Don't think you know what asset means.
I think what you mean is she's a liability.
Best way to fix Rey: go full Palpatine
After Rey said "Rey Skywalker", pause; red glow in her eyes going brighter as it fades to black with Palpatine cackling in the background getting louder.
Absolutely not, she is not an asset, her character is complete trash.
The only thing I really liked about Rey is Daisy Ridley.
Easiest solution: Make a KOTOR MOVIE! Oh no please don't do this... I don't trust Disney to not fuck this up either.
The thumbnail is on point though...
How many billions to make that list just to lose money on all of them. Just go under and disappear.
Nothing but pure apathy is left and all this proves is that KK never had a plan to begin with and that she is desperate for anything at this point.
she still thinks she's the best thing that ever happened to Star Wars - either that, or she hates Lucas so much that she's still revelling in destroying his work

6:51 Nintendo should hire Sidney Sweeney to play Samus Aran should they ever make a live action movie.
I hope she's not too fully clothed 😉
who gives a fuck about Sidney Sweeney
Without decanonizing anything.
I'd RE-CANONIZE the force unleashed story. Tweak the writing a bit to account for the new origin for the rebellion.
And just make a series around starkiller and bring in his actor as the main protag. Seeing as he's been with star wars anyway since darth maul.
Conspiracy; Kathleen secretly has an Adam’s apple and has revenge corn on many Dis. executives.
Rey Palpatine's Jedi Re-education School
A long time ago, on a channel far, far away, a little sketch comedy group called Studio C did a skit about how Lucas Films was going to end up making a Star Wars movie for every single character who appeared in the movies, including each and every stormtrooper. Apparently Disney saw that skit and decided it was a good idea.
