The Rust Belt isn't as rusty as it used to be. Some areas, cities, counties have managed to find new economic opportunities. And some haven't. It boils down to a few reasons. 1) Location, location, location. If your community is off the beaten path so to speak you are often drawing the short straw. 2) Urban vs rural. Often counties in the Rust Belt may have a modest sized city but the rest of the county can be mostly rural aside from a few smaller towns or villages. This can cause conflicts as to what direction the people want to go. 3) Apathy and the refusal to see that things have changed. Inefficient businesses lost to more competitive ones. Taking the jobs with them. The de-industrialation of many areas did not help. Sometimes this was because of competition from off shore. But sometimes there were actual government policies that drove it. The academics in the 70s were talking about a post industrial society. Well I'm sorry but everyone isn't suited to higher education. What do we tell the people who aren't, we're sorry you'll just have to accept working at a convenience store for minimum wage. Plus a nation with the international commitments the US has requires a domestic industrial base. What happens when you buy everything from a potentially hostile country. And then they say no. In 1939 Germany's biggest trading partner was France. Also refusal to see change is just wanting the good old days back. The good old days often weren't that good really.
These two men have done a great job of interviewing folks on all sides of the political spectrum. It has been interesting to listen to different perspectives.
You guys are the best....your post election discussion and mood of my country, USA, is the most honest and heartfelt that is out there.....love your show and think many others feel the same....thanks for covering the American scene from your European perspective.....BTW, there is still a certain vibe when thinking of the UK and recalling her not to distant glorious past....I think the UK will rebound nicely as a began of hope and prosperity....Part wish, but also know it can happen too....
Without question, the feeling of relief is certainly palpable. And you can be assured that it wasn't all from Trump voters - although you wouldn't get any democrats to admit it. Harris was picked because it was thought she could win - an outcome that would have been disastrous to the entire planet. How fragile we are. Trump has the world on his shoulders now, let's help him with his burden. And put Vance on deck.
I live in a small Wisconsin town, been here my whole life. Pills, poverty and poor paying jobs are the norm. Which is why so many of our children flee to the big cities like Madison or Milwaukee for a better life.
I live in South Dakota and it's pretty much the same. All the young people move to Sioux Falls and Rapid City for opportunities. Every year I see the average age in my town go up, except for younger people moving in from the Indian Reservation.
i live in a place called Cornwall in England and there is a lot of poverty here. The rich are rich and the poor are poor and the divide is getting worse. We need someone here like Trump to give people hope.

I hate to break it to you, but neither Musk nor Trump are farmers. They were both born with silver spoons in their mouths and one of them managed to bankrupt a casino....
We, in Northern California want this state split in half so us conservatives can vote in conservative representatives. We wholeheartedly despise Newscum and all that he stands for. We need the State of Jefferson to happen or L.A., San Francisco and portions of Sacramento will ALWAYS have control over our state and California will continue to rot 🤨
I sincerely believe you should denounce and emancipate yourselves from SoCal, right about from San Francisco to Tijuana. They’re a lost cause that’s destroying the state from the inside out. Is Sacramento still salvageable or is she a lost cause? I have friends in Eureka and it’s like a completely different world; I was in OC last fall for the first time in a decade and it was beyond dystopian compared to the last time I’d been.
What a great discussion. And I never laughed so much in such a serious conversation. Shows that comedy can make serious conversations more real and with a better perspective.
There’s a big difference between the bulk of the people who illegally crossed the border in the last four years and a grandmother who’s been here for fifty years.
Legally, there isn’t, they are both illegal. If you have been in a country illegally for 50 years, that says something about you. Especially when you have lived in a country that effectively was begging for you to just go ahead and apply to be a citizen.
Damn, I'll be honest listening to y'all two is kind of inspiring. It's refreshing to hear people, especially English/European that sound hopeful and excited about the future. That's when all your talk about what Trump and his message did to the public that was different from Harris. It gave people a vision of hope and something to work and look forward to. Without all the rhetoric about dividing us into all these different groups penned against each other. Instead, we're just all Americans that want a better future for everyone.
Thank you for your open mindedness, we get a lot of flak from people who know nothing about what actual people in the US believe, they just see what mainstream media says (which is owned by the political parties themselves). Best wishes all.
Congratulations!!! You're now over 1 million subscribers. I been watching you climb and waiting at the 900+ thousand subscribers. Again, Congratulations!
Well, I'm sorry, but they aren't giving you a very good perspective in this video. They have been captured by MAGA and weren't in the slightest bit unbaised. If they had been, they might have addressed t¡your crazy electoral system where you have to choose between terrible and deplorable. The fact that Harris was a bad talent doesn't make Trump a good one, especially when you have had 4 year to assess what a Trump presidency loks like. I didn't hear anyone spew any type of racist or anti Semitic sentiments. 2. Everyone I ran into inside and outside the venue were very pleasant to me. 3. There were LOTS of veterans! 4. While the crowd was majority white, there were many black, Asian, and Latino pro-Trumpers. 5. Independent and frustrated Bernie voters were actively welcomed by speakers and the crowd. 6. Donald Trump has a lot of energy and looks good considering how hectic his rally schedule is. 7. Around 20% of capacity crowd self identified as having not yet voted. 8. My daughter is an EXCELLENT reporter (but on this issue, I am totally biased) 9. Former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll was a very impressive speaker. 10. These people certainly are not deplorable. It seems to me that the channel is pretty clearly right leaning, privileging populist guests.

Yall have had awesome guests in America and I haven't seen all of them. I like y'all's show a lot.
I’m an American watching this to see what outsiders are thinking seeing all this
And what do you think of it?
I felt compelled to write that small town America isnt filled with tent cities and drugged out zombies and homeless mentally ill people wandering all over. My town may only have 3 traffic lights because its a small place but I dont really have to lock my doors. The cities are embarassing me as an American 😅
Same.

Feels bizarre to me.
When you start seeing your own party dismiss, isolate, slander their own Dem voters( Elon, Tulsi, RFK Jr), I started to question Dems motives. They are not about improving the party, the way we do things, they are about maintaining the status quo.

The DNC chair was full of idiots. However that doesnt mean that Trumps cabinet is going to be functional.
The status quo has been grinding us down as the machine becomes more bloated, soon there will only be blood from a stone to give em. It needs to be shaken up, and the longer we wait to do it, the more it's gonna hurt.

I just want yall to know that small town America doesnt have tent cities, drugged out zombies, and homeless mentally ill wandering around all over. Its kind of sad to think big cities are all a lot of people get to see when they come here
I meet many small town people in big cities who left small towns to leech off big cities.
I live in a small Wisconsin town, been here my whole life. Pills, poverty and poor paying jobs are the norm. Which is why so many of our children flee to the big cities like Madison or Milwaukee for a better life.
True story but I can drive 15 minutes and be in Zombie zone
Small town America is truly beautiful. lots of places look like you walked back in time (in a good way). people are much more kind, open, willing to help and talk. my best stories while trucking were going through a small town and stopping at a local diner, a local bbq spot, when i got stuck multiple times i ended up having more help than i needed from locals. met some pretty cool people. cant say the same for any big city i visited.

It’s sounds like you lot are feeling the itch to have the “ taxation “ conversation too!

I really enjoy the way you two work off each other. Neither in full disagreement or agreement.
Stay strong Triggo's!
completely avoided the rust belt. 20 years ago we we're the definition of america.
Thank you both for objectivity, reason, integrity, tenacity and humor! Forget the negative Democrats criticism; they are bitter and lashing out.
These guys have nailed the current situation.

This has become my new favorite show. It’s nice to see honesty and no talking point.
I like it when you guys do segments like these without guests just to give us your thoughts.

That happens all over the world. That is not American exceptionalism.

I'd love to see two Americans do this in the UK. I want to learn more about politics there. You guys have a great series!

I was a New England born and bred liberal Jewish woman. I felt something rotting in the party back in the early 2000’s. In 2016, I went against every instinct and attended a Trump rally with my Hasidic son in law. We were stunned. All were heard before we went was racist, sexist, Nazi, etc. I wrote about the next day, Here it is from right before the 2016 election. He changed my mind and I voted for him then and again this November.
Nov 3, 2016 •
My takeaway (as an Independent) from attending the Trump rally today:
1. I didn't hear anyone spew any type of racist or anti
Semitic sentiments.
8. My daughter is an EXCELLENT reporter (but on this issue, I am totally biased)
9. Former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll was a very impressive speaker.
10. These people certainly are not deplorable. They represent every age, walk of life and socio-economid status. Also, women were very largely represented within this crowd.
*BONUS THOUGHT: However anyone decides to vote, l applaud you for participating in our democrati process and I hope everyone can regroup and just be kind to each other!
