My grandfather own and operated a restaurant on the west end of the island called The Collins Captain's Table threw the 1980's and early 90's. In the winter time we would go ride the ferry from time to time ,grab some hot chocolate and enjoy the scenery.
Geezer at the Wheel lol. we were the white dodge 2016 or something grand caravan. handicap plates,on a highway somewhere between baytown, houston,or Galveston... which we go to a lot. lol. probably never noticed it. oh well, lol. love the videos
In reality, we made 3 round trips on the ferry. I really enjoyed it. I wish I lived close enough to take the ride just for fun once in awhile. I hope you enjoyed my little video of my first time. Thanks for watching.
just discovered ur channel at Padre Island, and have been watching all the videos of ur trip up CA coast. Great videos, and they were very special to me because my husband and I made that same trip back in 1970. LOved seeing all the familiar places and also seeing changes. When u''re riding along with mtn on one side and Pacific on the other, can't get much better than that. OH, I believe you said that. THanks again for all the work you're putting into ur videos. ANd give Molly & Midge a hug for me.
Hi Bobbie! I'm so happy that you are getting some good from our videos. It's great to know we are triggering some good memories for you. Thanks for watching and I'll be glad to give the little furkids a big ol' hug for you.
Amazing the ferry is free! Hope the new campground works out for you. Regardless, it's bound to have some nice people to meet......seems to be the nature of Raving.
That ferry ride is sooo cool. I don't know how or why they offer it for free, but I'm glad they do! You're right about meeting people. We have met so many nice folks and we stay in touch with several of them. One of my favorite things about rv traveling. Thanks!
Geezer! You and Lucy remind me of my wife and I so much , Even our kids (when they saw one of your bucket list videos of Lucy walking along the riverbed picking up rocks in another trip) , said they thought it was us during our outings, You with your suspenders and Lucy with her Hawaiian shirts, WOW, just crazy. Love your videos, keep them coming.....
Hi Bobby! We really had a great time on the ferry. The best part is that it's a free ride across one of the busiest seaways in the world. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid of our trip. Thanks for watching! 🚍
Another good job there Geez,. Free is always a good price. Especially when it comes to floating your RV to a new destination. What kinda deal is that park? Hows the Drone flying coming along?? Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Kevin! I couldn't believe the ferry was free. It was such a great experience. This park was $150 for a full 7 days. Overnight rate is $30. Full hook-ups, free laundry, concrete pads, wifi and several antenna tv channels. The big drawbacks are no real bathhouse so only an outside cold shower. But the owners are working on improvements. This will be a great park in time. It's been way too windy to even try flying the drone. We're heading north so maybe we'll find calmer weather. Thanks for your interest. Happy Trails.
Nice! Be safe out there Geezer! Because of your vids, I get to see places I'm too lazy to drive to! Besides, I hate traffic of any kind! Keep up the good work Man! Have fun! 😂😁😜👍🏾
Found your channel when you were at Padre Island and have been playing catch-up. Sorry about your experience on the calif coast , there is some good camping but you need to ask a local about them. I'm always embarrassed the way my state treats RVers ( all about the dollar ). You did miss the golden jewel on the Oregon Coast, and that is their state campgrounds, they are awesome, not sure about the wifi but most have water and electric and some spots with full hook-ups. My very favorite is Cape Blanco and you missed it by just a few miles, plus if by chance you are disabled Vet they have benefit that you apply for that can't be beat. If I see you headed this way I will try to give some tips in advance. Safe travels and keep the clean Side up.
I'm so glad you found us. Most of our problems have been from poor planning due to our lack of experience. But we're getting pretty good at this rv travel thing. Thanks for watching. BTW: You're not the first to suggest Cape Blanco. It must be very special. Too bad we didn't know about it when we were there.
Hi, Geezer (and the gang!). You make this look easy and thank you for taking the time to share your adventure. You're videos are awesome. Which program do you use? I'm planning a trip to Houston & Galveston in August 2017. I appreciate you providing the info and video. Keep up the great work.
Hi Ben! My main editors are Adobe Premier Elements and Audacity Audio editor. But I do have and use several others for specific occassions. I hope you enjoy your trip as much as we enjoyed ours. I appreciate all your kind words ... Thank You.🚍
Years ago My Friend Dewight Cavins and I were going fishing and were in a twenty six foot boat. The day was very foggy and we were going very slow.Out of the heavy fog came the ferry. He blew his very loud horn which like to have scared us to death.Did not miss by much.
Yikes! That would indeed be scary. Those ferrys are quite large. I'd imagine it seemed even more so when coming at you from the fog. I'm glad it was only close. Hope you at least caught a few. Thanks for watching and Happy Trails to you.
You have to eat at Kellys down there. It is on interstate 45 at I believe mile marker 12 just north of Galveston you will not be disappointed believe me.
As a matter of fact, we did eat at Kelly's. Watch for clips in an upcoming video. We celebrated my 65th birthday with a friend there. Thanks for watching.
Love the videos geezer . When are you going to come check out Canada 🇨🇦. If you do come up here you have to come to Thunderbay Ontario in the summer you'll love it.
Hi Allan! I'm happy to know you're enjoying the vids. The fact is, we're planning a trip around Lake Michigan. However, you have me wondering about including Lake Superior in the plans to get some Canada in the mix. hmmmm We'll have to see about that. Thanks for the idea. And thanks for your interest. Happy Trails.
Glad you enjoyed the ferry ride Geezer! Did you see the concrete ship to the left when you got in the main ship channel? Texas City is the town on the west side also where I live! PEACE OUT !!!
That ferry ride was great! We really enjoyed it. I'm not sure about a concrete ship. But then I don't know what one looks like. LOL But I know we're not too far from Texas City. Thanks for watching, we're really enjoying this are. Lucky you to live here. :)
There is a good state park there 20 bucks a night. Water electric and dump site watch for rattlesnakes they are all over Galveston. Galveston was called snake Island before it was called Galveston.
You are on my husband's childhood stompin' grounds! We go to Galveston Island State Park every year at Thanksgiving to be close to family. We do NOT go through Houston. It is a nightmare to drive through traffic, skinny lanes and horrible traffic. On Boliver, you can continue on east on 87 and run into 124 to High Island. This road runs into interstate 10. 10 in that neck of the woods is okay. Texas State parks are great, but since there is no separate reservation fee, people are notorious for making reservations and not showing up. You can check the state parks at texas.reserveworld.com. If you decide to stay awhile, a park pass is $70, and you get 3 coupons for 1/2 price on your second night. The pass covers your entrance fee which is is in addition to camping fee. Camping fees are usually $18-25 a night. There are also some good COE parks in east Texas. Magnolia Ridge near Jasper has some great first-come first serve sites. Hope ya'll have a great time.
Hi J J! Thanks for the tips. We'll definitely try to avoid Huston and DFW. We have a tentative plan to go through Branson, MO on the way back and are currently working on routing to make that happen. Thanks for your interest and concern. You've been a lot of help.
Right, it was regarding whether the propane was off. I don't know why they bother to ask when they have to actually see the valve turned off anyway. No biggie, just a little reduntant.
I'm sure you're correct on that. There is even a large section of Hwy 87 that is just gone ... never to return. It's just a sand/chopped asphalt trail now. However, it's amazing how the area has bounced back. Thanks for watching.
From the point where they shut the gate on departure to when they opened the gate on arrival was just over 20 minutes. Yes, that view was spectacular. Thanks for watching.

LOL You'll have to be more specific ... EVERYONE passes us up! :)
Geezer at the Wheel lol. we were the white dodge 2016 or something grand caravan. handicap plates,on a highway somewhere between baytown, houston,or Galveston... which we go to a lot. lol. probably never noticed it. oh well, lol. love the videos

It's really a cool ride. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Thanks for stopping by. Happy Trails.
Ha ha, daddy needs a new campground. It's so fun riding with the Geezer!
Just feelin' silly. :) Lucy might disagree on how fun the ride is. Happy Trails!
Should've camped at Galveston Island State Park.
You're no doubt correct. Frankly, we were so tired that we just took the first place we could get in. Thank you for the tip. Happy Trails.

School busses make this trip twice a day because there's no high school on Bolivar.
I did not know that. Lucky kids
Amazing the ferry is free! Hope the new campground works out for you. Regardless, it's bound to have some nice people to meet......seems to be the nature of Raving.
RVing........not Raving! lol

LOL Who would have thought that there were more like US? That's funny right there. I'm glad you're enjoying the vids. Thanks for watching!
I've traveled to and from Galveston on that same ferry the Robert H. Deadman many time's. Never had a problem and loved every time.😂
Oh yeah! I could ride that thing all day long. A very relaxing little trip. I hope I managed to bring you some good memories. Thanks for coming along.
@@GeezerAtTheWheelGang You certainly did sir thanks for the video.
I really enjoy riding the ferry, this is an awesome video! Thank you for sharing this with us!

You have life-jackets?? LOL!

Hey y'all. We really enjoyed your vid. Awesome ferry ride. Safe Travels!
Hey back to ya'. I'm proud to hear the enjoyed this video. Thank you. Happy Trails.

what did the security ask?
They wanted to verify that all propane was shut off. You can't even have a gas can in the back of your truck if you use the ferry.
Right, it was regarding whether the propane was off. I don't know why they bother to ask when they have to actually see the valve turned off anyway. No biggie, just a little reduntant.
I believe most of that area is newish. Whole area got wiped out during hurricane Ike
I'm sure you're correct on that. There is even a large section of Hwy 87 that is just gone ... never to return. It's just a sand/chopped asphalt trail now. However, it's amazing how the area has bounced back. Thanks for watching.
Nice view. How long was the ferry ride?
From the point where they shut the gate on departure to when they opened the gate on arrival was just over 20 minutes. Yes, that view was spectacular. Thanks for watching.
Maybe it’s time for a new rv
Nawww. Classy still has some good miles left in her. I guess we'll find out when we take our next trip. The plan is a trip to all 5 of the Great Lakes in spring/summer of 2019. Thank you for watching!
Got caught behind you in traffic in Texas City
Sorry ... Classy is very reliable, but not too fast. I hope we didn't make you late for something.
Nope you were no problem and quite a fun find
Geezer do you know if that's the same ferry that Eric (nomadic fanatic) took a couple months ago when he was going to that thing in Texas for caravaners or whatever.
Yep, it's the same ferry trip. However, he was on a different boat (there are several).
are you coming over to San antonio? there are 2 campgrounds west of San antonio that are around 300 month
We've already been to the San Antonio area. Thanks for the CG tip in case we're back that way sometime. Happy Trails!
Great ride along, how mush was the ferry?
Hi Steve! The ferry ride was absolutely free! It was an awesome experience and I'm glad you enjoyed riding along.
