If the world ever needed a proper hug...its THIS one.
Can I please get directions to the world that doesn’t need them
AMEN!
No shit man
Yeah I fell you man one love ❤️
For sure xx
If this song doesn’t give you goosebumps, check for a pulse.
Yes I get always goosebumps when I listen this song 💗
This song kept me going throughout this year with so much grief. I have friends. I won't give up
Amen.
Absolutely. Actually there are quite a few goosebump songs he has reviewed. I need to make a Goosebumps Mix.
hahahaha nice
I'm a grown man of 44 but I always shed a tear to this song. For me, it's perfection. 2 of Britain's finest.
Same mate....this song always brings a tear
53...gets me every time,powerful song.
2 of Britain's finest, well said, it's true.
well said mate
Yeah this is musical perfection
You said, ”What a voice”. Then Kate started singing and your eyes sparkled. I’ve been waiting for this reaction. Thanks.
Yes was absolutely waiting for this one. Knew he’d love it and feel the emotion of these two great artists. Such a special, powerful song. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
absolutely true,, you've got a man in the song crying out and then an Angel answers
@@garycoates4987 what a beautiful way to articulate this song.
In your eyes is a MUST, one of Peter Gabriels best ever songs!
It’s the best love song.
Do the Secret World live version of that song please
@@metalhead4135 Totally agree - "In Your Eyes" is brilliant already but the live Secret World version is THE definitive performance. Look how much fun they all have on stage!!
I’ve done that one type Peter Gabriel followed by JayveeTv in a youtube search
@@JayveeTV true, but it's the Secret World live version that blows everything else away and includes extra vocals from Paula Cole and Papa Wemba - 10 minutes of pure joy. Try it man!
people ask me about this song and I tell them
this isn't a song, it's a lifeboat
You, young man, have a beautiful soul. What u said at the end of the vid was very touching. Thank u. Love and best wishes to everyone. Watching from the Rep of Ireland 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪
Gabriel wrote this song with Dolly Parton in mind for the female part, I love Dolly, but I think its perfect with Kate, she was a fantastic talent back in the day.
Ahh it does sound written for Dolly. Thanks.
He probably already had the video in mind.
How funny I thought Kate was doing a dolly parton in her middle eight
I remember listening to this for the first time as a teen when it had just come out on MTV, it made me cry and back then I didn't even speak English. One day, 15 years later, I hear it again. By then I have finished a degree in English and I am married to an anglophone, living in an English speaking country...and I am driving, the song comes on, I understand each word and I have to park the car. That's how much it moved me. Brilliant choice, thank you!
What a beautiful story, Druuna! Thank you for sharing - this made me smile :)
♥️♥️♥️
This has to be the most lovely comment I've read on this site.
Reading your words whilst hearing the song play is an overwhelming sensation..I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s joined you in shedding tears
You’re pretty much describing my reaction to it. I cry every time I hear it, my first also I couldn’t make up the words and meaning. An Irish husband later, here we are, the song lives in me
Peter’s voice is insane, no one sounds like him
he kinda sounds like Phil Collins funny enough
@@GooseGumlizzard yeah especially some of the genesis stuff, Phil's versions sound very similar in parts!
Guy Garvey, Elbow, I hear Peter in his voice.
With Kate Bush???? OMG!!! Your reaction is amazingly awesome!!! And I just learned about Kate Bush!!!! OMG!!!!!💞💞💞💞💞🥀🥀
Kelly, I love that you found Kate. Her song, Cloudbusting, is my favourite song of songs.
I studied (Jazz) singing 20+ years ago and sang some of her songs in my exams: Babooshka (we made a swing version of it), and The Wedding List.
She wrote songs like "The man with the child in his eyes" when she was in her mid-teens.
She also did dance, hence her own, expressive and somewhat eccentric choreographies in her videos of, for example, Wuthering Heights.
I "fell" for Donald Sutherland (the white haired president actor in The Hunger Games) watching the Cloudbusting video.
My sister had her 1985 album "Hounds of Love", which I, as an 11 year old girl, listened to on cassette tape for hours and hours, just turning the tape over when one side was finished, again and again.
Kate is for me very well illustrated on her Never Forever album cover (oh, those decades of proper album cover ART!). Go, have a look. And listen....
So happy that you have found out about the genius that's Kate Bush, I'm sure that you will have a wonderful time listening to her albums. She started writing songs from when she was 12 years ago, "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" was written when she was 13, which is just crazy. She was a trailblazer for women artists in so many ways in the UK her very first single Wuthering Heights went to number 1, it was first time ever that a song written by a female singer had ever done that! As for me I was there from the start, my advantage being I live in the UK and in the same part of the country where she grew up - showing my age now 😀😀 - unfortunately I missed her first live tour but I was extremely lucky to get a ticket to one of her "Before The Dawn" series of concerts in 2015, when she performed live again. It was a fantastic experience and I'm sure that you will have a fantastic time listening to her.
"Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up now,
we're proud of who you are."
Those two lines can save & change
someone's life. They did for me. ❤
This is one of the songs that helped me pull though a very dark time in my life.
💜💜💜
✌️☺️
❤️🙏🏼
This song is sooo amazing, Where you from Jennifer?
This song always gives me chills and makes me cry. It's delivery. It's message. It's music melody. Just gets to me. Peter Gabriel gets to me. Kate Bush gets to me!!!! Hahaha....lol....hahaha...
Same for me, Peter did an album called foxtrot in 1972, I was only 10, and the 2nd side made me cry.
ruclips.net/video/MlC4_eX99Ng/видео.html(audio) Go Down Gamblin'" by Blood Sweat & Tears is the song I want Jayvee to listen to....I know he'll like it!!!
Same
Me too
At the time this song was released, I remember it related to the shutdown of the mining industry in England by the Thatcher government and the terrible impact it had on the miners and families. Lines such as "never thought I could be effected", "for every job, so many men, so many men no-one needs". Song beautifully expresses the pain of the time.
I did not know this beautiful xx
and then came the heroin.
In England? What about Wales? It decimated Wales. Reads like such a typically English view.
Russian miners sent food parcels to starving UK mining families, incidentally.
@@SKOLAH Hard Times for all my friend x
Was absolutely nothing to do with the miners strike.🤣
"Don't give up, you know you have friends"....and i'm in tears
I lost my first love, best friend, hug partner in 2014 - so if anyone out there has one...cherish them and “don’t give up” 🌈 TY Jay! I really needed to hear this song tonight 🕊
❤️✌️
♥️
My favorite quote about this video by Gabriel was there was worse ways to make a living than being told told to stand there and hug Kate Bush all day.
This song was specifically aimed at people out of work and feeling like there was no hope of finding work at a time time of high unemployment. The line - For every job, so many men, so many men no-one needs
This is one of my faves, not only is it a beautiful song, it really shows how great their Voices are too, a pure sound. Peter Gabriel's voice was so under rated, he has a really great voice. 😎👌
Peter’s an absolute all time great, without a doubt.
Underrated? Really? He was a huge international star...
@@SKOLAH So was Madonna, but she still was also under rated to, being a huge international star doesn't mean people won't under rate you, as not everyone will be a fan, cause they don't rate that person as a talented star despite how well known they are, like so many can be.
@@dalebaker9109 exactly he is I agree.
So beautiful, and so powerful, I get chills listening to it even now, 35 years later.
"So" was possibly the best album of the 80's, and certainly one of the most musically significant. Peter's voice is incredible: no other qualifiers needed. Kate too. I saw him on this tour in my favorite venue, Merriweather Post Pavilion in MD, and it's still one of the top three shows I've ever seen. On the song "In Your Eyes" (also from So) he has the famous Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour and his band join him, and for the concert they were the opening act, but also came on stage for the encore and the combined bands played an hour long encore! Peter also did his crowd-surfing act during "Lay Your Hands on Me" (that must give his security guys nightmares). Please do more from this album! My favorite is "Red Rain" but the big hit bangers were "Big Time" and "Sledgehammer". "Mercy Street" is another beautiful ballad. Thanks for listening and sharing!
Peace from SF
The most influential album in my life
Very cool story on the concert and I agree 100% on the "So" album. I don't know if it was actually possible to wear out a CD back in the day, but I think I might have on this one.
I say Hounds of Love by Kate Bush was without a doubt THE best album of the 80s. I also owned So, but Kate is unparalleled.
Have to agree with you bud.would vote this the best album of the 80s.
“So” was always one of my “deserted island” albums. It’s just a beautiful complete project. 💜💜💜
Saw Peter Gabriel live in London in the 80s and when it came to where Kate Bush sings, she walked on stage from the wings, it was an amazing moment!
I almost gave up this year when my dear mother passed away, if it wasn't for my brother i wouldn't be here now. This track is both heart-wenching and hopeful. Thanks jay.👍
@@Kess952 : Thank you kess.💜
FUN FACT: Peter Gabriel's album SO is ranked #187 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and was voted #82 on Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums.
The hug of the millennium. We could all do with a hug like that this year
Best hug in the history of the world.
"Mercy Street" is also touching and beautiful. His tribute to Steven Biko is also excellent. Biko!
Love Biko..hopefHullyJay will review it soon..
I would also love to see him do Biko!
@@nickcangemi and Games without Frontiers..
Yesssssss
"Intruder" is the scariest song ever written...
Hi Brother, you''ve choose an absolute CLASSIC here! The song is about the VERY high UK unemployment of the Eighties and the despair and anguish it caused.
This was the era I grew up in and was very relevant to my family. This song is everything to me.
Nothing to do wirh England whatsoever. Was about the great depression in America.
@@schmeered Wrong
The song was _inspired_ by the US Depression, in particular the photographs of Dorothea Lange. It had particular resonance when released as Britain was experiencing high unemployment in the restructuring of the post-industrial economy. So yes and no as to the underlying meaning; the disruptive effects on people and relationships was certainly relevant to the times but the direct inspiration was drawn from a different period.
Brings me to tears, it's such a beautiful song.
Hello Jay! 😍 This song renders me speechless. Can make a grown woman cry! Thanks for reacting to this stunning song.
^^^ same!
Grown ass man!
This relates to the 80’s in the UK when thousands of men were put out of work and had to move to find work. His wife is telling him to not give up and keep looking ‘ you’re not the only one’. Absolute classic beautifully sung and VERY true to the times back then.
The background behind them is a real solar eclipse.
I had a dream about a solar eclipse today. Sorry a bit random, you just reminded me.
This song has become an anthem for guys separated from their wives during jail time but it was written about high levels of unemployment in the UK. Peter Gabriel has stated in interviews that he didn't have guys doing jail time thinking about their wives in mind when he wrote it. His ex-wife stated at the time the song was released that the video upset her because she and Peter were getting divorced at the time too. There's always been speculation when people saw all that hugging that Peter and Kate were more than good friends.
Peter Gabriel also did a duet with Sinead O'Connor called "Blood of Eden". He sure seems to make connections with amazing women! Also a beautiful video. Peter Gabriel is a wonderful artist!
YES !!!!
His solo version on “US” is the best
Such a beautiful song
Beautiful song. I enjoyed listening to Peter Gabriel. So soulful.
I love this song.
I have been looking at the trees burnt to the ground. It’s hard to believe sometimes there’s a place where we belong.
This song always sends shivers up and down my spine. It's so sad and uplifting. This man is in such a sad predicament and he has a treasure in this woman who reminds him that humanity still exists, despite the hard times. It's lovely to see you enjoying these artists.
This song kills me every time. A great choice to react to.
I love the subtle background effect; the sun going into eclipse and coming out again. Easy to overlook.
In 2016, Sting and Peter Gabriel went on tour together ("Rock Paper Scissors"). I went with my sister and her husband because I love Sting's music, but by the time the concert was over, I was a huge Peter Gabriel fan. He was so amazing throughout the evening, just his unique voice and haunting music and it was all so moving. By the time they did "In Your Eyes," I was crying, it was so beautiful. Gave me chills. (And what was even cooler - Sting came out and sang backup vocals for that song!) He's a talented artist, no question about it.
One of the best songs. They really take U to church, it's very powerful.
this song floors me as much as the first time i heard it in '86. peter ruled for a minute !
I would give anything to hold Kate for half that long. I love that woman.
Let me tell you, mate, Kate is not at all photogenic. I know her a bit and when you see her in the flesh you realise that although she looks good in pictures and videos in real life she is heart-stoppingly beautiful!
Everyone loves Kate. She's one of the most beautiful, charming, humble, gracious, and kind persons in this world (not to mention her genius level talent).
get in line bruh
It's one of my favorite Songs from him.
After that I started to listen Kate Bush.
My mom want's to be play "don't give Up" at her funeral, when the day would come.
Try her song “This Woman’s Work”, both the original and re-recorded version with a more mature voice (and perhaps insight?)
His discography is so varied and amazing.
One of my favorite songs!
LOVE THIS ..tears in my eyes
Thank you Jay, needed that tonight, Angel blessings to everyone XxX
✌️☺️
Two of the most original and greatest british singers of all time. They both also have so much integrity and create their own music from scratch. They never follwed trends just stuck to their own thing. They are the pioneers in music that others follow.
This is a masterpiece! Always brings tears to my eyes because of the perfect voices. They don´t make music like this no more and what a perfect video.
No matter how many times I hear this song, it brings me to tears....the emotions run high.
Beautiful song written during great unemployment in the 80s. Kate Bush is a unique talent. Slightly off on a tangent the guy who just plastered my ceiling was a musician back in the day and worked with Kate Bush, he said how nice and unassuming she was.
Such a beautiful song. Their voices work so well together. One of the all-time best duets.
I'm 56 and this makes cry. Reminds me of the time I was unemployed and could not get a job. This gave me hope...
according to legend elton john was saved by this song when at a low point in his life kate bush singing dont give up saved him
She sings backup vocals in French on Gabriel’s ‘Games Without Frontiers’. A better song in my opinion and the comic relief when you hear others sing what they think are the lyrics is priceless.
Love that song!!
A GREAT song from two of the most original and iconic artists we've ever had the honor of hearing.
This song touched a nerve with many communities in England in the 80s
This is a hug in song form.
I always love how they end on an up note not only musically but visually as well, they got through the dark night to the sunrise.
Peter is my favorite. Kate is too incredible for my dumb ass. Either way, Don't Give Up! Hugs to the world!!! Thanks dude
The fact that they weren't looking at each other in this video kept it from descending into smarminess.
Peter gabriel saved my life on more than one occasion. My favourite artist of all time
Everyone needs someone to tell them it will be alright at some stage of their lives. This song got me through some tough times in my twenties. (Yep, I'm a boomer). I love that it's still being heard now. Great reaction.
Definitely a haunting song. Beautiful!
Thank you Jay for playing this song. My all time favorite since the 80s. The message is so important. My favorite part is when Kate Bush comes in with the words "rest your head... you worry too much..." she comes in with this part at the peak of the eclipse. The eclipse adds that extra dramatic effect. I love that part. It's a if she says it directly to us telling us we worry too much. Which is so true. Don't give up... I love this song and happy you reacted to it.
This is such an emotional performance. It's simplistic in such a beautiful way...not a whole lot of extras, just these two incredible artists pouring their hearts out in song ❤️
Pure magic, from two mega talents. Always listened too Peter Gabriel from his day one. And Kate can’t really do any wrong. I thought you would love this song Jovaughn.
Such a beautiful song, and still relevant in these times. Their voices complement each other so well. We all need friends like this
Beautiful 💖
My Idol, Kate Bush! When I was 19 people called me Kate Bush and when I was getting my portfolio Acting shots done, my photographer told me that he photographed her for some promotion pictures! He showed me pics and said we had facial similarities ,..! You can imagine I floated down the road that day!
They are 2 of the most talented musicians Britain has produced, and for some reason we've produced a lot. I love both these artists.
Its one of the most beautiful songs ever made ❤
It gives you an incredible longing after something or someone thats missing in your life - something indescribable...
his rusty voice makes you get goosebumps all over.
Every Word he sings, hits you like a hammer, deep in your heart ❤
....And the fantastic voice of Kate - voice of an Angel ⚘
a song that has a similar feel to this song (for me at least) is Shakespeares Sisters' song 'Stay'.
That song is amazing! I was a child when it came out but it's so powerful I felt it
I'd actually love to see you react to the duet between Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue "where the wild roses grow". Such a haunting song and beautiful duet like this one.
This and the Nick cave duet with PJ Harvey, Henry Lee
What a magical duet. I absolutely love this song. It always give me chills but also gives me hope whenever I'm feeling down.
Take me to church, Peter and Kate!!!! So powerful!
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush know each other for a long time. If anyone can give a voice to a woman's perspective it is her.
The entire album SO is a masterpiece. This song got me through many depressed times of my life. I loved your goosebumps and your reaction. Try Mercy Street. Also Lamb Lies Down On Broadway from his Genesis days. Well done by him or Phil Collins.
Oh my goodness the Lamb is totally magnificent, heard that when I was 12, utter magic, I love his Genesis stuff too.
EXCELLENT CHOICE! One of my favorite songs in the world! Some day, try Gabriel's "Here Comes the Flood." :) And, YES, Jay--you are such a bright spot in very dreary times. You help us connect to the best parts in ourselves.
...it's been almost 40 years since I've heard this, and it still moves me emotionally like the first time I heard it!!...2 AMAZING VOICES, indeed!!...
the use of the eclipse in the background is subtle and such a nice metaphor.
I always thought this was Kate Bush featuring Peter Gabriel :-)
I never understood why this wasn't billed as a duet, it takes both of them to make it what it is.
Peter’s voice is beautiful. So warm and full of emotion. It sends shivers down my spine.
This is about how it is to Hove no work, no hope on the verge of being defeated, and how the love of someone can carry them through anything.
Peter gabriel "Solsbury Hill" :)
This song never fails to give me goosebumps...
If Kates' voice in this masterpiece doesn't run chills down your spine NOTHING will! This combination is just incredible
Two of the best voices in history. Boy do I miss hugs!
The ability to feel music the way you do, down to your very inner core, is in itself a gift. Keep up the good work and keep listening outside the radio box!
Can't believe I'm tearing up!! Hard week emotionally and this is such a GEM of a song to hear. This came out when Britain was facing the worst unemployment numbers in the 80's. I read somewhere that Peter Gabriel LOVED doing this video spending all day in Kate's arms as they were taping this LOL!!!!!
I lost my job during the thacher reign of terror on the working class , plus I was blacklisted . But I had my own Kate Bush & got into photography . Thanks Linda
One of my favourite songs and this is my favourite video of yours. Giving everyone out there a virtual Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush style hug.
This song is dripping in Love... pure, unconditional love. One person supporting his/her partner no matter what.
What a great balance of voices.. he is a great story teller.. and her crystalline echoes just vibrate with passion . A great combo!
Goddam song made me cry. I've gone through all manner of mental health issues down the years and now at just 51, I can hardly walk anymore after years of doing sports, soccer at a high level, and then sang in bands down the years and one by one they've been taken away from me by my spine which is giving up on me and I've had to retire from working, sport, music, everything. With everything I've had to stop it's like another hammer to my head, another nail in my coffin.
I've started to even hide from my family, and stay in my bedroom away from everybody. This song, and Coldplay "Fix You" both are songs I gage my mental health at that time to see how I am in myself. The quicker I break down, the worse I know I am.
Thank you for reviewing songs. I know them all as I'm getting old lol, but still some I've not heard in a long time. Coldplay FIX YOU. If you've not reviewed it, do it. I'm trying to think of one you might not have reviewed yet but you've done ALOT now so it's hard to think of one. Please stop doing tearjerkers as they aren't good for me lol. Ok, I know one to review for you. Glasvegas "Daddy's Gone". Because they are Scottish you may find it tough to understand some lyrics so either get them up or find it with lyrics. My Father left when I was 3 and It's one all children, especially boys will relate to about Father's who've abandoned them. Either that one of Queensryche "Bridge". Same subject.
It really is a Peter Gabriel-song with my favorite Kate Bush to make it complete. :)
Peter writes songs that are so thoughtful and relevant. One of my favorites. Mercy Street is another haunting piece, might be my favorite Peter Gabriel song.
Wonderful song and performance by two people at the top of their game. And what a bass line. Great reaction too. Throughout the video I love the eclipse that's going on behind them.
A great song especially for the troubled times we are currently living in.
They don't make songs like this anymore.
Yes, they do Steffen. You just need to open your eyes & ears...real wide.
@@VEGANSAM real...real wide
