I too was told to wear a face device that they attached to my upper jaw because I was developing a underbite and my upper jaw wasn't growing either at age 9 then I got that taken off and then placed braces on me and taken off at age 12 . I think this ruined my bite even more. later throughout my teens I got braces again at age 15 and got then taken off at age 17 then regretting this decision because although it did not fix the bite,i still needed braces for double jaw surgery. at age 19 I got braces again(still have them currently) this time with the goal of getting jaw surgery to finally correct my bite. I have now been with braces for about a year now and just had my surgery September 30th 2020. If only my orthodontist had known this information when I first when in for my small underbite problem at age 9, I sometimes feel I wouldn'tve definitely not needed the surgery. I now plan to use these techniques Professor Mew teaches, thank you for this wonderful incredible research.
What a fantastic orthodontist, gentleman and very knowledgeable man. I started to sleep better using his method how to keep my tongue and how to swallow keeping my mouth shut. What a great method also to stop eating and bitting my lips all the time.
I can keep my tongue away from my teeth for about as long as I can do a handstand. Maybe that explains my slight bi maxillary protrusion. Too bad RUclips didn't exist when I was growing up.
absolute criminal how i wasn't told about this as a child. Now, i have a flat maxilla with insufficinet forward jaw growth and narrow jaw with crooked wisdom tooth
Thank you for speaking about its difficulty! A lot of people saying it's easy and not hard at all make me feel overwhelmed and disabled to correct my bad body and tongue posture. Keep trying everyone! You can do IT!
is it possible to realign teeth naturally *after* having had braces? What's notable is that my upper teeth were almost completely straight but my lower canines had wrapped forward around the nearest incisors. My parents decided to get me braces for both upper and lower teeth. As a kid I feel I may have actually keep my tongue up frequently, though clearly not enough to completely get straight teeth. Also, unrelated, but it feels the same with the Hormone theory of Diabesity. Doctors fail to really see the underlying cause and simple solutions, and continue peddling their misguided and often not-scientifically-backed methods.
any updates? i had braces too as a kid from 2012-2013 and after not wearing retainers since then my teeth have slightly shifted. have u seen any results from mewing? i wanna mew and improve forward growth but im also thinking of starting my retainer again but im thinking that the retainer might just stop the forward growth
@@21donuts I don't wear my retainers at all anymore, and my teeth have not shifted any more than the small amount from before. Aside from that, it's hard to remind yourself to mew so I've seen no notable changes in my face structure.
He would have more credibility if he made a more qualified statement. To claim that all malocclusions are the result of malpositions of the tongue neck and jaw is patently absurd. As if by training oneself to change posture one could cure all malocclusions. It’s not that musculature makes no contribution or that evolutionarily determined influences are not the predominant determinate of malocclusion but to claim that modern orthodontics has got it all wrong and that the dental cartel has been so blinded by the profit motive as to completely miss this as a primary determinant of malocclusion is ignorance bordering on malpractice. Interesting talk though.
I wish your father was available when I was 8. I’m 75 now and had an overbite so bad that my bottom teeth gave me a constant sore on the roof of my mouth. I wore braces to move my bottom jaw forward from 8-16yrs. I have had such severe grinding that my top and bottom jaw has developed thick tori and my upper and lower teeth have worn down to half the size. Most of my molars have been extracted due to decay. I also have Crohn’s disease and feel my oral health has contributed to my gut health. I wish one of you could have been my orthodontist. Good luck in your future. Remember, everyone thought the world was flat at one time.😊
Thanks for this. I'm mewing like there's no tomorrow. I'm 40. Chew hard gum and all the other things to some extent. My airway is so much better. Thanks. Mouth taping at night. Dumb orthodontics messed my teeth up and i have a horrible structure. My 10 year old has it worse and i'm trying to avoid the same mistake. I've found my answer. Just need to find someone near by that usderstands this. Thanks!
OMG i just can't understand what mewing is! I looked at the website claimingpower.com, I watched this video and I still don't get HOW to get the forward growth
Your tongue needs to go across the whole of the roof of the mouth with the tip resting between the incisive papilla and the first alveolar ridge. The soft tissue under your chin should rise right up when you're doing this. The problem is that this will most likely force the tongue into your airway due to a low maxilla. You need to find a happy medium between the tongue being up, and also being able to breathe, and then keep that position until your airways expand over time. (Edit: Also, the tongue should never touch the teeth.) The second aspect is that your teeth should be close together or touching lightly. No clenching, and the main point is that your jaws should be close together. There is debate about whether the teeth touch at all or if they should be slightly apart, but again, the jaws should be close together however is comfy for you. The third main point is to keep your mouth shut. Your lips should be in light contact. If you have them too tight the force of them and your cheeks against your teeth will limit the expansion of your maxilla from the force of your tongue. Keep your lips firmly together but keep them relaxed. My arches are very, and I mean very slowly expanding after a year and roughly 4 months of work on my posture. I'm only just starting to get the back of my tongue up now, but since I've done that, my wisdom teeth are coming through even more (hurt like hell, lol,) which is proof in my mind that this works. It's also very slowly correcting my facial asymmetry. Time is a big factor here, so don't expect changes overnight, but hopefully these tips help. These are just my opinions however, and I could be wrong with them, but I am definitely getting results with them, however small. Best of luck.
I have had 8 teeth pulled to have braces. I ysed to have an overbite. Yes my tongue was touching the front of my teeth. What hope do i have for my tongue to properly fit in my mouth now??
What am i supposed to do then if i have a narrow palate? I will need a palate expander but then after expansion there will be a gap between my two front teeth and after that wouldn’t braces be requires? And here john mew says braces cause vertical growth so what am i supposed to do after expansion of palate to fill the gap between two front teeth
It's not a treatment, it's about changing yourself. Change of habits. Dr Mike mew compares that to losing weight permanently and giving up smoking. If you try, you will know it yourself.
In one of the interviews he actually mentioned that at a young age he had had four teeth extracted due to crowded teeth, which was a common practice at the time, so he developed a long face and a flat profile. Thankfully we have his son Dr Mike Mew to look at, who has an exceptionally well-developed square jaw.

My tongue is massive 😂 I dunno how to do it right
Where were you guys???? My face is so long now....
I hope it is better now! ❤️
I love this old man
🤫🧏♂️
I have been mewing for 1 hr 26 minutes and yes *mewing works* !
im 21.. do you know of any before and afters i could see of someone around my age? im devestated that i could have fixed this better and soonerr :(
it's not too late at all
10 years and u will look like dr. Mike Mew
im 19
But Mike isn't very good looking...
@@erikjurmann6594 mike has ideal forward growth. Genetically small cheekbones though
Should give the Mews the Nobel price🌟
Hey I am 17now nd getting braces to fix underbite can you tell me why braces was not able to fix your bite?
This is another wonderful speech of Prof. John Mew. Very informative.
What a fantastic orthodontist, gentleman and very knowledgeable man. I started to sleep better using his method how to keep my tongue and how to swallow keeping my mouth shut. What a great method also to stop eating and bitting my lips all the time.
Guys do we have ang MEWING organization or facebook page or group page? Where we all can interact in different questions an testimonies?
Visit the Great Work forum thats basically what ur looking for G
I can keep my tongue away from my teeth for about as long as I can do a handstand. Maybe that explains my slight bi maxillary protrusion. Too bad RUclips didn't exist when I was growing up.
I’m 25 and I’ve been mewing for a couple years. I see results, but it’s very slow going. Is there hope for significant change for me?
In a long shot, yeah.
no theres not. These comments make me so mad, they misunderstood all the theory.
This best video I’ve seen in my life.
9 is late already...I am 26, so I am doomed right?
No
you were doomed from the start. born asian
If ur expecting to be a model yes
@@homerthompson6028 That isn’t necessarily true. My southeast Asian parents have beautifully developed forward grown faces.
yes you are
my mom didn't give me a soother and i was a nervous type and i had lots of trouble....thank god for this.
What a wonderful man! I laughed, I cried,I learned a lot. Amazing 👏
the goat
Common sense!!!!!!! thank you. Commonsense is increasingly uncommon.
absolute criminal how i wasn't told about this as a child. Now, i have a flat maxilla with insufficinet forward jaw growth and narrow jaw with crooked wisdom tooth
Sadly that's the reality for most people.
No one knew.
So how do you grow backward facial growth? im being serious
Maybe the other way around:
(1) Push tongue hardly at the bottom of your mouth
(2) Keep your mouth open and mouth breathe
(3) Do not close your teeth.
Asian huh
56:39 You can start at any age.
john mew deserves a knighthood. maybe mike as well. You are doing god's work.
30:26 you’re welcome 😉
Only if I discovered this younger :( now I keep desperately looking for somthing thatd miraculously give me safe effect as young person
1:07:30 im going to hell for laughing
Legend! 🙏🏻 Thank you for the great speech
33:39
Thank you sir! 🙏🏼
Ah you came to Canada last year ! That's nice !
chad mew
I want my mandible to point forward as I have a receded chin. Will mewing work for that too???
What a wonderful lecture, I have so much respect for Dr John Mews
51:00 does "fixed appliances" means the metal wire braces/brackets?
awesome description on how braces destroy jaws because braces made my jaw set back and underdeveloped too
33:16 Sikh
He would have more credibility if he made a more qualified statement. To claim that all malocclusions are the result of malpositions of the tongue neck and jaw is patently absurd. As if by training oneself to change posture one could cure all malocclusions. It’s not that musculature makes no contribution or that evolutionarily determined influences are not the predominant determinate of malocclusion but to claim that modern orthodontics has got it all wrong and that the dental cartel has been so blinded by the profit motive as to completely miss this as a primary determinant of malocclusion is ignorance bordering on malpractice. Interesting talk though.
Couldnt some of the problems be from malnutrition of mother when pregnant?
He's in an echo chamber🤣
Dont waste your time. Go get orthodontic treatment as soon as possible.
i don't understand how is it possible to keep your teeth in contact for 4 to 8 hours per day, should i fucking count or what? lol
froozemvm chew tough gums
(Edit: Also, the tongue should never touch the teeth.)
The second aspect is that your teeth should be close together or touching lightly.
Thanks a lot :)
Whenever I keep puting my tounge on the roof of my mouth, saliva keeps releasing. Hard to focus because of that
DVCE P. Same problem
I think its also very important to mention that correct swallowing is also important. Lookup sweeping swallow.
What about an underbite?
i have had braces on for almost 4 months should i take them off and start mewing or do it anyway?
1:10:54 KEEP IT MINECRAFT!
56:40
Orthodentist should be taught this so that they can tell us before doing the treatment
@Abdul R that's great then
Thank you!
24:41 You mention the maxilla only moves down, not back. Is this also true of retractive orthodontic patients?
50:37
@@CarlosVargas-oo6gn Thanks! Revisiting this 7 months later, John's words make more sense to me.
I have had 8 teeth pulled to have braces. I ysed to have an overbite. Yes my tongue was touching the front of my teeth. What hope do i have for my tongue to properly fit in my mouth now??
I am 21, wondering will this still work for me
And is there any appliances for forward growth?
There are but you would need to loosen sutured with an MSE device, then use the forward growth appliance to go forward
He is just such a good guy
You are a legend you deserve a nobel prize
33:45 😱
If he believes in the treatment so much why didn't he do the treatment on himself? I always wonder that about doctors.
