#3- Those pickup truck campers take me back. I’ll never forget my Dad coming home with a Del Rey cab over on a ‘66 3/4 ton Chevy. This was our graduation from tent camping, and we thought we were seriously uptown. A roof mounted AC three years later in ‘71 was the icing on the cake. Wish I had that package back.
The Tri Level Sky Rider needs to be totally modernized and brought back. I've NEVER seen a truck camper with a patio on the roof. Very smart use of space.
My parents bought a slightly used Kamp King camper, just a regular size, 8 ft. Back in the 60s. That was so well built, solid. We loved it and went everywhere in it. They used it for YEARS until they were too old to use it any longer then sold it with the truck. Hope the buyers enjoyed it. Lots of great memories in it.
I have a 1973 Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer Camper. We love it. Fully self contained. With full bath. Sleeps 6. Minor restoration. Purchased it for 1500. Works great. It's my home. I thank God everyday for mine.
My dad cut the body from the windshield back off of a 61 impala & built a commerical looking motorhome on it. We traveled the us every summer. We (all 6 of us)actually ended up living in it for a year when we fell on hard times in Florida. The man could build anything. He built all his own boats. He even built a washing machine in the desert in India during WW2 out of a windmill, 55 gal drum, & the rear end axle & gearbox from military jeep.
Number one brought some memories flooding back. Had loads of fun touring in our Starcraft, and coincidentally, i just came across a photo of 6 of us in convoy. How time flies!
We had a Winnebago Chieftain. 27 feet long, the dual beds in the back, bathroom mid coach, a small kitchen, a dinette and a bunk that lowered over the drivers area. We went all over the U.S. in that during the 70's and 80's. A leak in the roof, and axle problems spelled the end to the Winne for us.
The amazing looking Rover P5B camper van that was built in 1971 and was for sale in July 2018 in the UK. It was fully restored by it's present owner with all mod-cons.
My parents had a GMC motorhome in the 70s when they had the orange , green, etc. 70s colors. Ours was cream tan and brown though. We went on the first trip to Arizona in it. We were on our way back to our home in Oregon and after we got part way into Oregon it conked out. They looked it over later and found out that someone at the factory had put some sawdust in the gas tank, probably in protest of the gas shortage going on at the time. GMC only gave dad part of the money back on it, and gave him a GMC pickup for some of it. Dad didn't like GMC pickups. He always had Fords. After that dad bought a Revcon, which was pretty good.
🚌 Saludos --- 🖖 Julie my parents also had a GMC 76 'for many years ... Kingsley cream model with orange interior. To remember the only time it was accidental was in the Andes when one of the radiator hoses of the steering box was broken. It was the best motorhome that my father had. 🚌 Regards --- 🖖
Here in our county there is a GMC sitting in the backyard of the man who used to repair sewing machines. It is just mildewing away. Sad but I don't have the resources to do anything even if it was for sale.
A Dodge 1976 Mobile Travler 17ft bought for $5k in Austin TX fully contained a/c, heating, etc. Was in the back row trade ins (skid row) tuned it up + oil change kit, and did a fantastic trip Rockies, Alaska, Valdez, Dawson, Artic Circle, Deluth, back to Ilpaso. 308 engine never missed a beat.
You know a truck camper A frame hybrid would be a neat new camper for the market. the bottom area having the kitchen and breakfast nook and a rest room with a fantastic fan. With a walk in shower you fold up and a cartridge toilet not a wet bath with a fantastic fan with a queen bed in the top half of the camper. Really neat truck camper for sure. The breakfast nook can be made into a bed for the grand kid's. Azdel and air alloy aluminum frame work would make the camper very light weight. Could even place a hand pulled pull out on each side has well. Change truck campers forever! 😊😉
I remember when I was young, someone in the neighborhood bought a Jeep CJ that had a camper mounted on the top, from the factory. It looked absurdly dangerous, and obviously I wanted one.
Figure the Center of Gravity to be somewhere around two feet higher than the roof line and even a moderate turn at anything above 35 mph could be more fun than one could handle.
I feel like #2 could easily be brought back today and be sell them by the thousands. Probably be relatively cheap to produce them, not to mention it's size is perfect for most people who just want to travel, and camp, but without too much luggage, or a huge vehicle.
Plans for the #2 Phoenix van are available from www.rqriley.com, as are many other unique and interesting DIY vehicle plans including other vehicles, bikes, boats, and even a submarine.
I remember in the 60s going hunting with my dad his friend had a home made camper on his pickup with a home made trailer behind it it was actually well built and painted to match his pickup
If you guys ever make another of these lists, look into Alaskan truck campers, they're a brand based in Washington that makes four-season, hard side pop-up truck campers. They're crazy, and still in production. I would really like to get one for my truck.
4:32 we had that exact model Winnebago back in the 90s so it was already kinda old. Thing was a beast though always thought it was gonna fall apart driving 65 in it.
I was waiting for the 1973-1978 GMC Motor Home, the only Motor home built by a major car company in the U.S.A. (GM,Ford, Chrysler) she is front wheel drive, 455 Oldsmobile, and with almost 13,000 built, there are about 7,000 to 8,000 still on the road, with a shop dedicated to the GMC Motor home in all 48 state's.
8:14 Without outriggers and auger tiedowns I wouldn't get anywhere near that crazy thing. One good wind from the side and it's going over. Put it in a museum of oddities and roll on.
I have a '77 Kinga Highway! You should feature one of those. They're absolutely gorgeous. Mine is almost completely original, has newer carpet, but the original carpet is still underneath! The Kings Highway was featured in the series CHIPS.
My grandmother just gave me a 1955 Spartan Imperial Mansion. It’s been setting up for about 15 years. Me and my wife have no kids (just her and I) so we’re talking about remodeling and living full time in it. It’s 40’ by 8’ it has birch wood work through out. Original appliances. Light fixtures, 2 bedrooms (one on each end) two roof AC units, 2 doors on each end. And a full bathroom. It’s probably going to need new hard wood floors and window seal work. I’m thinking of replacing the plexiglass curved picture windows in the front. Replace the electrical wiring and breaker box. Upgrade to a higher wattage. New tires and wheels, clean, wax and polish the exterior and we’ll be ready to move in. Could you make a video on remodeled Spartan trailers and also if you have any ideas or reference material that will help me with this project...it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for the great videos. I am subscribed and will be a regular to the channel.
Plans for the #2 Phoenix van are available from www.rqriley.com, as are many other unique and interesting DIY vehicle plans including other vehicles, bikes, boats, and even a submarine.
Number 8 reminds me of the Jetsons and 2 reminds me of lost in space (the original) guess that shows my age lol I like the rounded antique one with Finn!

There is a video here on RUclips about that VW trailer. Can’t remember who it was by, but they found one and have started a restoration. They give a descent back story on it.
GEOFF ok there was a company that also made a fifth wheel trailer for early Suburbans. It was very much like the one for the VW and attached to the middle if the roof. It was so easy to turn it around and park it in a space. Surprised someone has t come up with one for the new Suburban ps or other SUVs

Thanks for putting these videos together they are full of interesting vehicles and history that we just don't hear about.

Weight, my friend. Too much weight up too high, decreasing stability. The result is a death trap.
Agreed!

My family had a 20 foot Winnebago Champion when I was a kid. We traveled all over the country in it. Good memories!

So schöne Wohnmobile, zeitlos, einfach ein Augenschmaus.
My father helped out restoring the Saab 92H, he and the owner are pretty good friends

Most definitely #9 should be on the top of the list as #1. That camper is a true definition of a groovy camper motorhome.
Pretty crazy campers
They are, but I like crazy!!!!!
I liked the #2 of all 10 , but all this campers are great, Traveling is the best enjoyable time,.
Number one brought some memories flooding back. Had loads of fun touring in our Starcraft, and coincidentally, i just came across a photo of 6 of us in convoy. How time flies!

All of these (except maybe the Winnie) are RAD! I love the Winnebago though, for sentimental reasons.
I love the design and interior refurbishment of a tri-level camper.

It was the best motorhome that my father had. 🚌

Definitely should include the early 70's GMC built motorhomes with Olds 455 V8 engine, front wheel drive, and trippy 70's interiors!
Norm K. I agree. I think it’s the most beautiful complete-from-scratch factory Motorhome ever.
Here in our county there is a GMC sitting in the backyard of the man who used to repair sewing machines. It is just mildewing away. Sad but I don't have the resources to do anything even if it was for sale.

That Kamp King was AWESOME!
I know it’s a trailer, but I always liked that fifth wheel camper trailer for the VW Bug...
IF YOU HAVEN;T WATCHED THIS VIDEO TAKE A LOOK. THESE CAMPERS ARE REALLY WORTH CHECKING OUT! I LOVE THEM! SO CLASSY!
campers was the rage back then , open country side was great
No 9 is a straight up BEAST!!!!
I used to have a Western Flyer bike as a kid that would match up well with that RV.
The 3 level slide n was bad ass and the one on the Ford frame that was bad from 2 halves! Omg I'd daily drive it !

I think #3 was ahead of it's time. A tri-level camper back then was pretty innovative.
I was surprised the truck suspensions were level they looked like 1/2 ton models.
notsosilentmajority1 the
I love them all but must have a deck and open sky for breathtaking views. #3 thanks so much
I love the art deco look of #4-1941 Western Flyer Motorhome. The grill is spectacular. I could enjoy this for quite some time.
Like the number 3 rv on this vid.for back of bed of.truck.
The Discoverer looks like it has been based on the Jumbo Jet, pretty cool!
I remember when I was young, someone in the neighborhood bought a Jeep CJ that had a camper mounted on the top, from the factory. It looked absurdly dangerous, and obviously I wanted one.

Winnebago...people of the dirty water? Hey that's funny and probably true! Ya learn something every day. Thx.
They are all cool but my fave is number 3 the triple decker
Love the three level truck camper😘
I remember the 3 level truck camper when it came out. Saw one on the road about a month ago. UNIQUE PLUS!!!!!!
I feel like #2 could easily be brought back today and be sell them by the thousands. Probably be relatively cheap to produce them, not to mention it's size is perfect for most people who just want to travel, and camp, but without too much luggage, or a huge vehicle.

The three level one is the most interesting - liked it very much; also the Phoenix Campervan....
I remember in the 60s going hunting with my dad his friend had a home made camper on his pickup with a home made trailer behind it it was actually well built and painted to match his pickup

It's hard to choose from all of them the most fancy one was the one that was on eBay auction I liked how the window wrapped around.
Hold me back! Mama's going shopping! I didn't think about making my own... So cool!
4:32 we had that exact model Winnebago back in the 90s so it was already kinda old. Thing was a beast though always thought it was gonna fall apart driving 65 in it.
I also wanted a Winnebago but probably will have to put up with the "WantToBeABago" that I will build one day!!
Old pics but it's on the rise again! Many are kitbashing their "Get the hell out machines! " these day's!
Great video. The Starstreak looks like it was a giant magnet and random body panels flew onto it.
Awesome, a 67 Chevy Camper Special at 0:04. I've got a 67 half ton camper special. Not too many Camper Specials around.

These look awesome. Wish we could see more of the interiors though.
The starstreek 1 and 2 so cool and the 3 level truck camper
Very cool video and thank you!

EEEK! Where was I!!?!! Fifteen thousand for the car camper I SO wish I would’ve BEEN THERE-amazing finds, great compilation!🍁✌🏼
Holiday House very cool 😎
Definitely number 5 or 1!!
#5 was cool but it in no way got 15mpg The car by itself didn't get that much mileage

The inside needs beautification work, but I want that 1941 Western Flyer. It's gorgeous!
I own a 1976 Toyota Chinook and I love your vid! Gotta love those Winnebagos too!
I liked that tri-level camper
Oh wow, man. Like, far out.
#3 is really awe-inspiring
I once had a party in the big W # 6 @ 4:31 it was really slippery with sticky carpets. That is all i remember.
Sounds kinda scary.
Loved the one on top deck wonderful would love to live in it now
My parents had a clam camper that slid into a station wagon I would love to find one of those today
Call me crazy but I definitely want one of the Pheonix campers!!!

Thanks for the video very interesting, I'd love to see one on the Ultravan made in Kansas during the 60s. Thanks

Many trips in the Winnebago , Love all of these , Thank You :) QC
That tri-level truck camper is pretty awesome.. But if I had to pick one I'd take the car camper and for just $15k it would be a great investment and a cool piece of history to have in 25yrs.
i like the vw tent one. vw also made a beelte rv and a camper that old beetles pulled with a hitch that clamped on the roof. 🍻
Some nice for today
I just got a 1988 Toyota winnebago 😎
Phoenix is Super Cool
Cool ,i like the olds ,
Like to see some of those Subaru's tent mobile homes that are accessory to their popular regular current modern SUVs and a note on their practicality.
Kamp King Koaches for me. What could be better than your own tripple-story motorhome?
A four-story motorhome? We got this F.P!
the caravan that can drive was the best it just needs a special cover for the head lights then no one will steal it no tow hitch
I only remember seeing a few of those campers. Maybe I wasn`t into campers then, Some of them were real strange looking,
Check out the Coaster Alamor - 90s Ford Mondeo custom build :P
And the Coaster Tremor built by his dad.
I really like the 1970 Olds version and also laugh that some of these get better mileage then my SUV
Tri level .. awesome. Love this video
I really like #1alot God bless you all
I love the style of the last one its awesome
Loved the ford #1 and the tri level camper
I remember seeing a fifth wheel hook up on a VW Bug when I was a kid and I’m sure a video and explanation exists somewhere. Great videos!

There is a video here on RUclips about that VW trailer. Can’t remember who it was by, but they found one and have started a restoration. They give a descent back story on it.
Here is a link to said camper, for anyone interested. ruclips.net/video/-BNMvBnm14o/видео.html
