We had an RAF Commer van thing in the 60s ... I wasn't too old at the time but remember it well in its dark blue/grey. I liked it, and whenever I see one now (rare mind you) it evokes good childhood memories.
I have an fully restored a 1977 Airstream Argosy motorhome. Built on a GM P30 chassis with 454 engine. Its a super cool vintage painted Airstream that you drive.
Hi my name is and I recently started work on refurbishing a 1977 dodge xplorer which was quite clean and rust free when I found her i,ve already named her lorer as a take off from her factory name of xplorer I find your videos very encouraging .my plan is to maintain the original 70,s vibe as I grew up in that time and miss it a lot keep
Wow,👍 lucky you Joseph, you got yourself some real potential with that beauty. Please, do keep me posted on your refurbish, I'd love to see your progress and end point. You got me wanting to start a classic campers list. -Good luck and stay safe out there.
Without a doubt my favorite one of all was number 3 the GMC that was made from 73 to 78 or 79 way ahead of itself the best even today if you can get find one which there's a lot of them still left out there and go through and do a complete restore on it you'll have a better motorhome than any of the newer ones that are being built it was just top-of-the-line back then and still top-of-the-line to this day and I wish I owned one of them I really do.
wow I used to have a Glastron and I loved it it was probably one of the greatest IVs I've ever had it was fast as hell for an RV I remember getting in drag races with school buses and UPS trucks LOL for the longest time I thought I was the only one with one it was my first RV I was 22 when I bought it and I'm 36 now I wish I could go back and get it
I'm officially in love with the Vicker's Westmoreland Star Trailers....so awesome. I kind of wish you'd covered the Barth motorhome, which are also pretty sweet. But I might be biased as I have a 1973 model.
Back in the day I used to do most of the work on the VW Westfalia vans at the dealership. When one came in for non mechanical issues it came to me. I didn't mind, familiarity made things quicker and better flag time.
A year or two ago a Glastron popped up on Craigslist Nebraska. $4000. I was soooooo tempted. Then it went off - sold. Then...I saw it two blocks from my house where the new owner lived.
All of the dodge Rvs were my favorite I own a 1979 dodge Exsecutive se has uses a dodge m400 chassis and came with the towing package so the motor is a Chrysler 440 v8 and also an added bonus had roof top ac ,cruise control , built in analog weather station and clock as one unit , an onboard onan bfo 4.0 generator and lastly the sleeping arrangements you get two full beds and a fold down twin in the rear in the bedroom. The one I own is 20 feet or so they came in multiple lengths and configurations in my mind it's truly a high end camper back in its day
In the UK, many of the camper vans were built by a variety of coachbuilders, rather than the manufacturers, who just supplied the basic van for conversion. For example, Devon Conversions at Sidmouth imported and converted VW vans from 1956 to 1985, and Dormobile at Folkestone produced varieties of Bedford Dormobile camper vans from the 1960s to the 1990s. Other popular campervans in the UK were based on commercial van such as Commers, Sherpas, Ford Transits, Renault and Citroen vans etc. Most of the British campervans produced were rather smaller and less luxurious than many American products, mainly because of narrower rural roads and more limited expectations.
When featuring the Chinook, you only showed the small Toyota version when the 18+ was their true flagship unit, the one piece moulded fiberglass on the one ton cutaway vans. They are still very popular
I have a custom made 1961 gmc class a motorhome. 3 way frige, rooftop and dash air, front and rear engine heater, shower, sleeps 6,heavy-duty furnace, cruise control. Built on 1987 gmc bus frame. 23 foot long.
Interesting choices. Growing up we had a 1964 Ford Travel Wagon on a Ford Econoline chassis with a pop top. It was a great conversion design, but the engine was gutless at 100 horsepower and 10 mpg. It commonly overheated and was a nuisance because the engine access was between the driver and passenger seats in the front. Had many lifetime travel adventures in it despite these serious flaws.
Owned a '71 bus for 12yrs with a 1776cc dual carb Type1. The '72 bus looks the same but has the much stronger/reliable type4 engine. I would put a 2liter with deep sump and external oil cooler.
My family still owns the GMC, featured in this video. It is homed on family property, nothing has been done to update inside, and is in original state. Unfortunately, this motorhome is still in probate. So it will be sometime before it will be able for sale or if a family member will take on the task of bringing it back to life. Many wonderful memories are remembered of traveling with grandparents. It's future is uncertain at this time.
The Commer campers were only fitted with 1500 or 1724cc petrol or a four cylinder diesel. The TS3 (knocker) 3 cylinder 2 stroke diesels were fitted in bigger trucks or wagons.
Thank you,I liked the GMC motorhome, and the Glastron ..The others arent much good, only good for a overnight sort of thing..When going away in such vehicles,it has been my experience that you need four things most of all..They are a VERY RELIABLE vehicle, first, a shower ,and a toilet, and a bed..cooking is a lower priority..you see ,and try this using your own suburb as a example..Imagine you have driven into your own suburb for the first time as a stranger in a van..it is afternoon soon you will need to eat, wash and sleep..Now,where can we park ourselves discreetly ? Where is a toilet ? even if you find one, most are locked at night to deter vice,is there one in your suburb ? where can you shower.? thats even more difficult..And where can you sleep safely..maybe there is a motel somewhere but..as for food, you can nearly always find something to eat at a fast food outlet, cafe etc..but shower, toilet, and bed are harder to find...next problem.is discretion you need to be able to live on your vehicle without attracting attention from nearby residents, police, council ordinance officers and petty criminals..in this regard the two vehicles have drawbacks as they are a bit too identifiable as motorhomes..
Thanks for watching everyone! 😍

Minds Eye Design What about the Tiger Provan?
Loved 😍 number 6! ☺️✝️🇺🇸
Loved seeing these older ones...I have a 76 Argosy 20 motor home that floats down the road, even when the 18 wheelers pass by.
Love the GMC motorhomes. Innovative and stylish. Decent power and front-wheel drive.
I believe they should be #1 On the list.
Design, innovation, ride comfort and horsepower nothing comes close to a gmc IMO
Absolutly
I still think there should be slightly smaller modern version of the GMC. Maybe with the Ford modular V8 fwd motor?
I had a GMC motorhome matchbox when I was a child. I loved that thing! A policeman in our town had a Toyota chanook I loved that thing as well!
The older ones are built much better than the New ones. My 2022 Grand Design has NO Refrigerator Working from DAY ONE.
We had an RAF Commer van thing in the 60s ... I wasn't too old at the time but remember it well in its dark blue/grey. I liked it, and whenever I see one now (rare mind you) it evokes good childhood memories.
Loved #3! GMC was so quintessential 70's:)
The Gypsy trailers here look like diner restaurants on the outside.
For me, the 26' GMC has been something I have wanted since college days! They are my ideal!
Agreed 100%.... So much so i bought one here in Australia
Always liked the GMC Motorhome. Still looks Modern today . . .
The Hanomag-Henschel Orion is a dream of a vintage campervan. Especially the later models with Mercedes Diesel engines...
I need to make a video, using just the still shots I have, of my Hanomag conversion I did in the '70's. 22 mpg!
Loved the Commer, went all over Europe as a kid in one.
I had one, years ago. Loved it!
I have an fully restored a 1977 Airstream Argosy motorhome. Built on a GM P30 chassis with 454 engine. Its a super cool vintage painted Airstream that you drive.
Love Airstreams in general, but especially their motorhomes. Argosy and the shiny twinkie.
Great to see all the older motor homes
Love the gypsy campers.
Fun to see them all.
Number three is my favorite. I have a 1978 GMC royale and I wouldn't have any other.
I JOINED THE ROYALE BAND WAGON. SOLID WALNUT CABINETRY, A BUILT IN COUNTER-TOP BLENDER...YOU HAVE TO LOVE IT, IT DRIVES LIKE A BIG VAN.
Yep bought one here downunder in February can't wait to renovate and enjoy
Else pre sounds great for us. Perfect size for me and my grandson to go cross country this winter. Ya baby!
When i was a teen my papa had the West VW, he loaned it to me for camping, great memories
That Westmoreland is SOOOO beautiful
Number 4 is a legend in Brazil. All campers in here love it.
Love this!!!! Mad love for GMC!😁
I have an Airstream and it's freaking awesome! Glad to see it's in the top 10.
Wow, those Star trailers look like something Liberace would vacation in.
All of them where bought with dirty thieved money by gypsies
Don't EVER park it in South Chicago....

My friend's dad worked at the GMC plant in Pontiac, MI where they made the motor homes and sometimes would bring one home on the weekends.
happy days. I envey you

It would be even nicer with a Cummins engine. Today's freeways and highways are too fast for that old 455.
@@siseley1 gmc 455 olds rocket won the landspeed record for fastest motorhome in the world
Agreed...i bought one here in Australia this year
Only 26 listed downunder
fond memories of riding in my uncles type 2, back in the 1970's.
I had an Orange Westfalia exactly like that! And my dad had an Orange Commer Autosleeper camper (although not at the same time).
The most beautiful? The GMC..definitely!
The Karman Ghia Safari was made here in Brazil. Sometimes I see a guy who's restoring a model of those. That's so beautiful and vintage!
Number 2, the GMC fwd camper. Awesome. 😁
It was nice looking back at the older designed campers and trailers. Thanks, one of those VW Bus campers would sure be nice to have. 👍
I think the Travco L'Espirit would be best for our needs, big enough, but not too big.
wow I used to have a Glastron and I loved it it was probably one of the greatest IVs I've ever had it was fast as hell for an RV I remember getting in drag races with school buses and UPS trucks LOL for the longest time I thought I was the only one with one it was my first RV I was 22 when I bought it and I'm 36 now I wish I could go back and get it
I still own one
1977 Dodge sportman..finding it hard to sell...brings back memories of my youth...
Might not want to sell it cheap.
my neighbor had a karman safari and it was very spacious inside and dare i say comfortable
I OWMED A 1970 V W POP TOP CAMPER BUS I WISH I STILL OWNED IT LOTS OF MEMORIES 😭😭😭😭
commer (spacevan) walkthough. loved that thing
We are restoring a 1979 VW Westy, but really like #8 too.
I grew up in a 73+/- commer highwayman. Many camping adventures.
Very cool, really enjoyed!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The GMC is most definitely my favourite 🙂
Volkswagen Westfslia, Commercial, and GMC were great way ahead of their times .
I'm officially in love with the Vicker's Westmoreland Star Trailers....so awesome.
I kind of wish you'd covered the Barth motorhome, which are also pretty sweet. But I might be biased as I have a 1973 model.

Woweeee loved each an every one. Brilliantly done just great✌🏻💗😊❣️
i would definitely buy the gmc motorhome
There are a few in El Dorado Arkansas gmc might be able to get one
Bought one here downunder in February.... love my gmc
I’ll take the GMC Motorhome any day. I like many of the others, but that seemed to be much safer to drive in my opinion.
Me too... picked one up here in Australia in February ... only 26 listed downunder
I’ll second that. These things have held up well. The chassis is something others could learn from. The double rear wheels is an amazing advancement
Number 3,nice and big and more power
Romany Gypsy Trailers - all of them❤️💕💗😊👍
GMC hands down. I want one so badly!
Enjoy the video. I have been looking different motor homes recently.
A year or two ago a Glastron popped up on Craigslist Nebraska. $4000. I was soooooo tempted. Then it went off - sold. Then...I saw it two blocks from my house where the new owner lived.

#3 would be nice. Would love to travel the US in my retirement.
can I come along for the ride?
sounds like a plan..from Canterbury. U.K.
I would love to have a # 8, 5, 4, and # 1 these are just to cool

What ever happened to the build quality they put into these old RV's? These old ones will be around long after the junk they build today is gone.
yep
I want the Gypsy Star one!! awesome!
Watching your video clip I really enjoyed it thanks a lot
I would love to be able to find a GMC motorhome in great shape that was affordable. Great video and thanks for taking the time to make it.
You missed an iconic RV 1954/1964 clack cortez. The best so far..
Still not enough inside of these MHs. We want to see more of the inside !!!
Totally awesome
When featuring the Chinook, you only showed the small Toyota version when the 18+ was their true flagship unit, the one piece moulded fiberglass on the one ton cutaway vans. They are still very popular
The Karmann Ghia is the Volkswagen version of a sports car, the camper is Karmann Mobil
I was watching a review of a rare Argosy motorhome from Streamline. Cool designs that were well thought out. Only about 200 were made.
LOVED number 6! 😍✝️🇺🇸
Always loved the Commer.
I'd love to find a Westmorland Star!
number 3 was my best choice ☺
#4 is the best one for me I love the style plus 5 and 6
I liked #7 I would love to go on a trip in one of
Those rv vans or moble homes
The Romany caravans #3 are stunning
I'll take that mustard yellow VW Westfalia please!
I like the gmc motor home
I have a custom made 1961 gmc class a motorhome. 3 way frige, rooftop and dash air, front and rear engine heater, shower, sleeps 6,heavy-duty furnace, cruise control. Built on 1987 gmc bus frame. 23 foot long.

The GMC was nice. I liked it best.
I liked the GMC camper and the other Airstream. I would love to have a Chinook.
I have a restored 1972 Hunter. It was the 903rd produced.
Nice, you still use it often, or is it for looks?
Owned a '71 bus for 12yrs with a 1776cc dual carb Type1. The '72 bus looks the same but has the much stronger/reliable type4 engine. I would put a 2liter with deep sump and external oil cooler.
I've always heard to stay away from buses after 72. The earlier ones with smaller tail lights are what to look for.
KOoOL LOVE .THEM All.
Very nice and a Thumbs Up.
Love the westmorelands
I like #3 a lot. Too bad we can't see the interior of the first one.
i have that GMC Motorhome as a hot wheels toy !
Great job! loved this!

I want a vintage VW Westfalia!!
I would be " a pig in pooh " , if I ever saw one for sale . " poetry- in - motion " . stay safe my virtual friend...always
Perseestä
Beautiful.
Dodge glasstron looks really like a boat transformed into a van!!
I own one and they are built pretty good mine is a 1970 and still in pretty good shape
The Commer campers were only fitted with 1500 or 1724cc petrol or a four cylinder diesel. The TS3 (knocker) 3 cylinder 2 stroke diesels were fitted in bigger trucks or wagons.
I own a 1974 GMC motorhome.
Does it work?
Sweet
No. My health no longer allows me to work on it.
8, 3, 7 splendid
1,4,10 are my favorites
