Since Adobe Premiere Pro doesn't have a bloom effect to drag and drop, I made my own customizable solution that looks great. And today I'm giving you the inside info to do it yourself on any type of footage.
Over on Instagram/TikTok, people have been asking me how I make my footage glow. What they're actually asking about is this effect called bloom, which kind of puts a halo around light sources, highlights, and other lit-up sections of the frame.
But anyway, the point of this video is to help you give your footage some new life and to inspire you to try new things and take some risks with your editing and storytelling.
So thanks for watching, and if you've made it this far, thank you for your time.
If you could leave a comment saying "Wow Trent, this was so cool and helpful, you should definitely teach us more about the film look," it would mean a lot. (Just copy and paste that comment, no need to get fancy.)

I just rearranged my whole premiere pro according to yours. It's so much more spacious than the default one. I'm an amateur editor and don't spend much time so this definitely helped! The tutorial is concise and well done as well, thanks!
Hey that’s awesome. Got a new video out today on the topic of this video too! Thanks for coming by
Is there a way you can save it as a preset? I feel mine is so messy with all the effects, effects controls and I don't have space for the visual/audio area at bottom I'm always draggin the bars to make them bigger n smaller lol
Definitely the best tutorial for this effect i've seen! very easy to follow and just straight to the point! can't wait to try this on my video! Thank you!

00:13 🎥 Filmmaker shares a method to achieve a cinematic glow effect in Premiere Pro.
00:29 💡 The technique works on various footage qualities and lighting conditions, as long as there's a source of natural glow to emulate.
01:54 🎨 Color correction might be necessary, especially for log-format footage, before applying the effect.
02:38 🎬 Duplicating the clip and applying a Luma key followed by a Gaussian Blur helps create the desired glow effect.
03:45 🔍 Adjusting the opacity of the top layer fine-tunes the intensity of the glow effect.
✅ Summary complete.

I really love your colour grading in your intro/this video, is there a name to this style/aesthetic? I would love to learn how you make it look like that
@@abcdef1357911 so sorry I never saw your comment. I have made many videos on topics similar but not on my exact style, maybe I’ll do this too. Thank you
that is bloom, but not halation. Halation is a reddish orange halo, it tend to occur along the constrasting boundries of the over exposed areas, most often around bright light sources.
Yeah I’ve learned a bit more about the terminology of it since then, didn’t want to take the video down but will definitely have to make an update as I learn more. Thanks for the helpful comment!
yep, no worries, im learning too. Keep up the good work@@Trentorials
Combine this technique with a red color matte layer set to overlay blend mode for a halation effect. i.e. after making the gaussian blur highlight duplicate layer, add a new item/color matte on top, nest the two together as a sequence, set the red layer to overlay, set the nested sequence to screen. Play with the parameters of blur, opacity, luma key (or just curves) to however you want the effect.
@@Trentorialschange the title
It actually is achieved better with a channel blur effect. Combined with the bloom, effect I just taught.

Love the tutorial! Quick and to the point! Great intro as well.
If I may suggest something, at the beginning throw up the final clips with the effect to show people what you will be creating while talking, give us the tease at the final product, or use the effect on your intro footage to show us what we will be doing. Then at the end show the final rendered clips maybe with some music underneath or you summarizing.
overall, loved the content will be subscribing, can't wait to see what you do!
Fair point. I don’t want to be a sellout and edit the video just for views. But I get your points, and appreciate you being here! Make a new video on the topic to correct some things I’ve messed up in this video too

@@Trentorials nah, i'm done watching your videos. as a tip, you could've just added some captions to describe what LUMA KEY is, instead of making us watch another video.

very good video. i will def use
You should. Totally elevated my style and helped me keep content consistent looking
Thank you for watching!
Just 2 things:
1. It is actually Bloom effect, not Halation. Halation is a phenomenon only possible in film, because it's fisically there. Of course you could recreate it in digital but it's different from Bloom. Bloom is the natural glow things have and film just shows it naturally. You could increase this effect by using a mist filter (both film and digital). Halation is like a cromatic aberration that appears when film is exposed to a very contrasty scene in a non remjet film.
2. This technique is great, I have it used myself. But when you are editing a big project, it kinda lags. You can hide the track but sometimes you need to see it to verify some effects. I have tried nesting them but it's the same, it lags a lot and some effect are not applied which is weird.
But anyways, it's a great tip if you're on a budget.
Hey brother. I appreciate your comment. I corrected this misspoken label in a new updated video. Technically halation isn’t possible digitally since it’s a chemical reaction on the film. But in terms of digital, it’s the best got lol
THANK U
You're welcome! thanks for watching. have loads more of these tutorials if you'd like to learn more.

Love the effect 🔥
One note though -> Your audio in the start was a bit off (the wind).
Only saying it because your video, effects, cuts etc are awesome, so i know you can improve this little part as well 🔥
Thanks for the tips! I am aware of the audio problem of course. I am working on being less of a perfectionist and taking the authentic and real problems and joys with filmmaking and just working on making more content. But of course audio is more important than video so I will probably buy the ride video pro soon with a good external preamp!

i love then value, you introduction showed way more personality that other editing related videos
Especially the ones with such narrow frame for instructions
So i found a lot of value there, but i did not notice a clever cta to interact with more of yuoui personality
I would be open to it. But i am never drawn to subscrib to someone that gives me information on editing tips
So i guess from a personal brand perspective if you were trying to build that through this
I would love some avenue to see that connection ear the end of then video..
Like a this video was shot here.. and i dropped a explaintion video of how I made this video here in this discord

Brother I respect the hell out of this comment. Thank you. And this is an older video, but of course it’s doing the best for the channel and I never expected that. My new videos I try doing more of this but I also feel that being a salesy RUclipsr isn’t what I wanna be, so I gotta find that line. W video
Preciate it!
is it possible to add this effect to my existing lut?
thanks
I don’t think so. A LUT is a look up table. Which contains information on how to color and adjust using lumetri via a .cube file. in this case, you could save this as a preset. In some other videos, including the update to this one. I talk about that as well!
Any tip for beginners bruh ?
Join the livestream today at 1:30 Pm EST. I’ll be going over and helping anyone who’s on there with any questions they have. But if you are specifically asking about this effect I don’t know how I can make this simpler. But I’d be happy to see how I can help
Hey Trent! Awesome video and easy tutorial to follow. I have a quick question though. I had color graded my clips in the lumetri color panel, then I copied all my video clips, selected the top one and added luma key and gaussian blur. However after rending, all my color grading was gone... do you have any ideas on what could have happened? I even tried to add the color grading again and it is not reflecting any changes now on the clips.
Could you have your effects export selection unselected? Or maybe you have a global Fix mute on? Hard to know for sure as I haven’t had that problem personally. Maybe try coloring on an adjustment layer if you can’t find the problem. But I would suggest doing that last.
great
Thank you so much! Please let me know what other videos you’d like to see!

@@Trentorials Thank you so much :D
the preset won't import into premiere pro for me. says file format not supported
Watch my recent video if you are having trouble using the preset, it will walk you through it!
dope look but it diminishes the sharpness on the image
I mean? Yea. It does. But film, like actual film, has a softness to it because of its analog nature. This is replicating that slightly. Therefore the softness is the point!
which font u r using in this video?
can you tell me please?
Yeah man. It’s called Mikela. It’s a paid font
How would you do that to the entire timeline (assuming the timeline is a mess and you can't duplicate every little clip)? 😅
in your case you should try to nest the footage after individually coloring it. this may not work as well but it could be a decent workaround. Otherwise manually, and painstakingly move the clips up so you have room to drag the duplicates above.
Great tutorial, I just did it across basically my entire timeline for a minute Reel. But my cpu is giving me an error trying to render. Without the bloom effect it renders fine, with no so much, any tips?
I'm not sure what problem you're having, but it is expected that it will take a long time to export. This goes for everyone on almost any device.
But the color grading you had before how did you do it ?
What do you mean? The original footage was in log. So there was no color grade on it. It was just raw 10-bit video.
damas in the preview? 😂😂
Huh?
