I was shocked as well!! I can't even say how many hours of youtube tutorials I've watched in the past few years and this guy comes here with only ONE video saying it all
I gotta give you props brother. I thought I wasn’t going to like this video because there wasn’t any node trees, but you made me see that I’d been working harder not smarter.
Definitely one of the more competent tutorials on RUclips, really good information and no-BS solutions. Good idea to show the corresponding parameters in Premiere and Resolve back to back as well!
This is the first video that actually helped me understand color grading. I feel so much more confident moving forward in creating better looking films! Thank you!!!!
after changing blend mode to screen ,the video doesnt change or do anything. just stay black and dark from the extract/tint effects for the helation effect
I've been doing photo editing for quite a while now and I must say that I at least already do 4 out of these 7 steps. Still, it's really nice to know that some things apply to video editing as well. Great video!
When I get to the Halation part, the gaussian blur and colorize just affect the entire clip, even with the composite mode selected to screen. How do I correct this?
I think it needs to be on and adjustment layer and than the blend mode is set to screen on the adjustment layer. Thats the only way I think I got it to work
Thx for the video, but a little help is needed. on FCP step 7, I couldn't get the "screen" blend mode to work, everything is still "red" even in screen blend mode.
Very good tutorial! I Would love a follow-up to how you handle footage taken with consumer grade action cameras, such as GoPro and Mavic drones. The qualifiers on 8-bit footage do not behave as nicely as what you posted, or I may be just pushing too hard, and expecting too much from that type of cameras?
I'm following all the directions for Halation, but once I press change the Opacity blend mode to "Screen", nothing happens. The image still is black with red blurry dots everywhere. I've tried multiple times. How do I fix this?
Man this was such a good video. I've always loved film with an emphasis on editing. Having you break down color grading to a more digestible presentation has inspired me to go back and try these techniques on older projects. Kudos and thank you! 😄
is there a video talking about the luma vs. sat curve? that step is a big one i feel, and i want to understand it more. it seems that's the difference maker after you apply a color grade in the shadows
Really great and professional advice and very easy to follow and understand. I look forward to implementing these tips in my upcoming creations, thanks!
This video is full of excellent information. Everything discussed in this video is very clear and very well explained for easy and better understanding. Thanks for taking your time to share such an amazing video with us
This is just amazing! you managed to combine tons of coloring videos on RUclips, into single less than 10 mins. video and maintained to keep it rich and full with details
I love this video. However you did actually rush through some of the parts, I guess the video was more intended for pros. I am just learning and the teal look ( popping characters) I sadly missed almost completely. Do you have a video in which you explain that part more clearly? Thanks for the content though!
Found this video in my spam folder of gmail. What a gem man. I feel like I’ve watched 100s of color grading videos online and this might just be the best one
Why you use first the baselut and then der Contradt Correction ? If you want to edit in Log footage than use the baselut after the Base correction. If you correct the highlight rolloff after the baselut, than you lose all highlight information.
Good video for basic color grading, however, you can do all the color grading you want but the most important thing to "cinematic look" is in set lighting.
Thanks for the content! Regardless of cost, would you consider using an Apple Studio Display 27 for color correction and grading? Or do you highly recommend other monitors?
Absolutely love it!! This video is gem in the sea of other color grading video. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge in such a compact short video. Subbed!!
See the color grading from t=The Aviator for insane red/teal corrections that look like ancient film. Specifically the golf scene with Hepburn and Hughs
Hi Color Grading Channel, I hope this will be available on iPad Pro too, it will be easy for us like content creator to use on the go app like this, good job on creating the software.
What about the soft Vaseline on the lens look..haha. when you look at film especially older. It's so soft, almost it's a tiny tiny out of focus. How do we achieve that to our shape digital??
Any tips to get rid of Halation on the skin? Using the Davinci Resolve effect and have to lower the strength just for it to not effect the skin tone as much.
This video r really awesome well explained keep it up, i enjoyed this video, very effective and efficient, everything discussed in this video very clear and well maintained

Can I admit - this is the most useful, real practical advice for film color grading I found on RUclips.

Industry knowledge and experience is one thing, but being able to teach so professionally in front of a camera is another. Great work!
The fact all of this is free and delivered in 10 minutes is insane. Thank you!
And no super complicated node trees like some other RUclips Colorists teach, just some curves and qualifiers, very straight to the Point.
Thank you kindly smepable Media! I agree less is more. No sense in juggling and pushing pixels back and forth.
The amount of genuinely helpful, free information in this video is astounding.
I gotta give you props brother. I thought I wasn’t going to like this video because there wasn’t any node trees, but you made me see that I’d been working harder not smarter.
