I would guess that it's a total loss. If a cam gear or belt fails, the pistons will smash into the valves and destroy the engine. The only thing that matters tho, is that he was unharmed.
@@CNSRVTSM Not necessarily. In some engines its mechanically impossible for the pistons to smash into the valves. It depends on the bore and stroke geometry of an engine. For example it would never happen to the Honda D14 engine (I had a belt failure with my old EJ9 on the autobahn at 160 km/h at 220.000 km), on the D15 engine (same block, but higher stroke value) there is certain chance to destroy the engine whereas on the D16 (even higher stroke) damaging of other parts of the engine is pretty much certain. B16 engine has a higher bore but lower stroke values. So my guess is, it all depends on luck like on the D15.
@@Allehvelichen they do have higher compression so would make sense for the valves and piston chamber to be closer together but you would think belt engines should be non interference
I had a bone stock 92 gsr w/ some 300k on it, still ran great even w/ a little oil getting used. I was on the highway, going 80, made a small pull and it started misfiring a little some 40 miles away from home. Played w/ the plug wires (nope), made sure not to shut it off lol, and babied it home. Ruled everything else out, pulled the head, stock exhaust valve had a BB size piece cracked off of it. Went right out the ex. port, no cylinder or head damage at all, and the valve didn't explode!1!! I drove at least 40 miles on it after it cracked. By far the craziest luck I've had with a car problem.
I dont think the gear broke- I think either A) the gear skated on the lock screws that allow you to time the cam, causing an interference event that was so violent, the force broke the spokes of the gear, or B) the belt jumped a tooth because of harmonics, and the interference even broke the spokes of the gear.
Even the real ones snap like that. Seen them on AEM and Skunk2. You really should add a rev limiter especially since your tach is useless above 9K rpm.
after all that it was just a bad cam gear?? the stock one prob would of been just fine lmao. that's actually insane what these 4 bangers are capable of damn
that's a little bit true, four rocker arms got massive wear after 4.000km. seems to be an oil problem or camshafts are too big. i think i will use smaller cams in the future.

@CivicH22Skunk2Pro1 i don't know, maybe there went some kind of shock through the engine and this affected the intake cam to break. Have no other explanation. There is only a little scratch on the first piston from the valve. No valve broke, they only bended a little bit on the upper side(valve keeper), nearly not even visible.
