I have no idea why this movie doesn't get more love, I think it's such a classic.
man I miss movies like this. the 90s and 2000s were such a golden era for films. Movies these days just feel so hollow and watered down. Miss the old days...

Can't believe after 20 years I'm seeing this film for the first time! I only watched it because Sam Rockwell is one of my favourite actors. Who would have knew I ended up enjoying the movie not because of Rockwell but because of Cage whom I usually don't like! What a gem of a movie!
I just watched for tte first time last night WHAT A GREAT MOVIE
I was diagnosed with Tourette’s when I was 6 and I remember seeing this movie for the first time and feeling so happy to see someone else with tics on the big screen.
Alison Lohman blew me away in this. Wtf she was 22 and even tricked Ridley Scott with her age. she crushed this role
She somehow fell off the radar like much of Hollywood and all of a sudden a reference to this movie popped up and I Googled her. (Well I Googled Nic Cage but she's a lot cuter).. for some reason I was expecting to see her about the same age as the last time I remembered her. She's now 40 and have kids not to mention wrinkles and age defining features.
I'm floored.

Nicholas Cage bought this book while it was still in manuscript and not even published. Very rarely does a movie manage to pull the rug out from under feet as expertly as this one did. It is one of the great long con movies ever made.
This movie is amazing, one of the best con movie, Cage's performance was really good, loved Alison Lohman and Sam Rockwell
This was a really good movie. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. From the story to the dialogue to the humor and cleverness. It portrayed OCD very well, and conning very well. I'm giving this movie 7.7/10 stars.

agreed on both fronts, I watched this film a few weeks ago and I don't know why but I keep thinking about it. Joe is awesome too, that kid can act.

i remember seeing this in theaters with my sister and i really liked it. def one of my fav movies. it is so well written and directed. and the way they adjust the hue of the film from cold to warm then cold again. ugh the best

I felt like shit after watching this movie a while back. Got back from A.C. the next day after hitting the strip clubs. Mowed the lawn. Told Kathy who is Delialiah I felt like shit. Felt terrible. Didn't know. Now I do. You've got to understand that I will punish the falsified Christians worse than you, by way of force, manipulation, and exteme levels of quick twitch intuitive impulse. Revelation has been escalated twelve fold. What you've done to My children in hell sickens Me. God's wrath is different than Dante's 5 wrath. Much, much, much, much worse than the breaking.

Great movie with Nicolas Cage, probably his best, although the idea of forgery, as for me, is unmatched in another movie (The best offer), anyway this picture is equally fascinating, mainly because of N. Cage - no matter if you are a woman or a man you cannot be indifferent seeing how incredible is his power of focusing onlooker's attention, how extraordinary is his personality, so warm and soft and yet so charismatic !...he is a class for himself

i visited my padrino william in mexico in 03 i was 10 yrs old and one of my memories of that trip was going to the imax theatre in mexico city and watching this movie. Even at 10 yrs old i understood this masterpiece and being that my cartelboss godfather took me to watch this it will always be in my head. 💪🏼 si lees esto tio gracias por todo! 👏🏼

Ridley Scott doesn’t get enough credit for comedy. Just ignore A Good Year and pay attention to this, The Martian and even Thelma and Louise had elements of comedy.

The only question that I’ve I had the first time I watched this movie was when exactly did Frank setup Roy with the whole scheme. Was it when Roy spilled his prescription drugs and had to changed his doctor? Or was it way before that? Because they must have been very patient to actually wait for that opportunity to come.
Okay, so, you've obviously spoiled the twist for anybody that hasn't seen the film yet but it started when he had to change Doctors.

Almost every time I eat or think of a can of tuna I have flashbacks of this movie, then my brain goes to the movie "Catch me if You can"...
I don't know, my thought process is like a beehive, I think of one thing or subject and start brainstorming on that on to other things.
Craze or "Crazy" is what simple folk seem to label me, you say Crazy incorrectly by the way; it is a French word; kind of like Frency for Frenzy.
Sam Rockwell who is Frank Mercer in this movie played Justin Hammer in iron man 2, now I wish Nicholas Cage continue become ghost rider, I love to see Johnny Blaze chase Justin Hammer ass in MCU.

I HATE this trailer! Best movie, Worst trailer! The trailer literally exists to sell the movie, this trailer does the OPPOSITE! WATCH THIS MOVIE! This is STILL my absolute FAV movie ever, seriously, EVERY time someone asks what my fav movie is, my answer has always been Matchstick Men & this is a movie that sticks with you, but this trailer... Nope, makes possibly the best example of movie brilliance, the best acting & Best possible screen writing look like a "cheap" comedy, its NOT, its a serious movie, & it can really play with you mind & your emotions, the ending with the "daughter" is PERFECTION.

Sorry people I just did not buy into this movie . A film critic said of bad movies “ A true bad movie is one that is both philosophically ridiculous and atrociously made . A merging of form and content . “ Well Matchstick Men isn’t atrociously made but it is philosophically ridiculous .

Roy simply did not have a daughter with Heather, his ex-wife. Angela was all along in cahoots with Frank and the rest of the guys, including his shrink. Remember the scene where Roy went to Angela’s house at the end?
