Few movie endings can match this one. The perfect representation of longing, nostalgia, heartbreak, melancholia and what-could-have-been. Only the endings of Her and La La Land as well as the beach-house scene from Eternal Sunshine come close in recent cinema at matching this moment.

If you've ever been a foreigner visiting Japan, had a beautiful experience but then had to go back and leave it all behind.. This ending just perfectly captures those complex feelings.

Bro, it's not even about leaving Japan but about the girl he leaves behind

    • @natures_neighbor

@@ayoubleboss623 Don't "Bro" me boy. I'm talking about the feelings that this specific scene invokes, not what the movie is literally about. Ever heard of an individual interpretation? A good piece of cinema elicits multiple interpretations depending on the person watching and their own life experiences. That's the great thing about films like this. They are left open ended so that you, the viewer are free to take away from it what you choose to take. Yes, the film is centered around these two and their short lived relationship. But Japan itself also plays a huge role in the film as well, being the setting for all of their interactions. He leaves the girl behind and then he gets in the taxi to go to the airport so that he can leave Japan. When I left Japan, I also left behind a relationship that was unresolved and it was a tough thing to do. That is why for me, it's not just the girl that he leaves behind, but the experience as a whole. Don't be so narrow minded bruh ;)
