    Goofy goats... fun to watch. Your mowing reminded me of when I used to work mowing on a golf course. I could mow for hours and it never bothered me, gave me time to think. Nowadays I am in a hurry to just get it done. Good harvests always a blessing. I use cheap Wally World solar sidewalk lights to light up my out buildings. I have two and I alternate them. Most people don't know they just unscrew from the top and inverted, they lie flat, about the size of a hockey puck. Makes them easy to carry in your pocket till you need it.

    I never wean the kids, I let the mom's do it naturally. Then again I don't milk my goats, I sell the kids for meat so I want them on their mom's as long as they keep them. They get nice and big over the summer grazing on all that summer grass and drinking mama's milk. He's noisy (Moose) because you're stealing his potential offspring. Those goats sure like the spools, I see Mama was getting a little annoyed with her snorting and fur sticking up, she's the boss and the queen of the castle. Nice harvest, we already had an early frost. I'm so glad I covered all my tomatoes, I was able to save them. Some other veggies weren't so lucky.

    • @LumnahAcres
      @LumnahAcres  5 лет назад +1

      Wow you had a frost. What state are you in. What breed of goats do you raise

    • @jimclaire7996
      @jimclaire7996 5 лет назад

      Al, do,you,feed your goats concentrates to increase production. Next spring you should have a lot of milk. I wonder how much more milk you will get the kids not weaning. I,am surprised a doe will let another doe's kids nurse. Al, thanks for sharing. God bless America.

    • @marlenereimchen9141
      @marlenereimchen9141 5 лет назад +1

      Hi Al, I live in Alberta Canada about 45 north west of our capital city Edmonton. Yes unfortunately we had one night of a hard frost can put a damper on every garden around here. It took a lot of people off guard. I have a small heard of about 20 does and 1 buck. My buck is a pure bred Boer and this is my first year with him. So far he is doing a great job and he is growing nice and stocky. He was 1 in June so this is his first breeding season. Most of my does are Boer cross, either with Nubian, Alpine, Spanish, Saanen. Mostly Boer/ Nubian it's a real nice combination. They are a duel purpose goat, good for meat and dairy. We just chose the meat because milking takes a lot of time and I have so many other things on the agenda, I have a hard time committing to milking everyday. Besides by the time the kids are sold for meat my mamas are pregnant again and I like them to have a break before they kid again in January/February.

    • @LumnahAcres
      @LumnahAcres  5 лет назад

      Marlene Reimchen how does the winter kidding season go with your wintets

    • @marlenereimchen9141
      @marlenereimchen9141 5 лет назад

      It's a little tough. I have to be extremely aware of all my does and the signs. I have a small insulated barn and I make sure to always have those mamas locked up at night just in case. I also have a baby monitor in the barn and in our bedroom so I can hear when one goes into labor. That has been a game changer for me. It works great and I am able to really prevent loses. I always make sure the kids are dried off before I leave the barn and each new doe and baby get their own stall with a heat lamp for a few days. This also gives mama and baby a chance to bond. Then they have to go to another area and give that stall to another mama. I definitely need a bigger barn. They have a shelter for the day that they can go into. Once the kids are about a week old they are fine with the cold weather as long as they can go inside away from the elements. They all tend to cuddle together and they do an awful lot of playing so I think it keeps them warm.

    You can dry and make "potato" chips out of the zucchini or if you have a pasta attachment for your mixer you might try making zucchini pasta. That's a lot of zucchini. My chickens always get the really big ones -- seeds good for deworming naturally.
