Agree, The SE AWD has everything you need plus a turbo 2.0 and real 8 spd auto transmission and No CVT! It’s got as much room as larger SUVs at a bargain price less than 25k it looks and drives great 👍🏼
Joshua Rutter I stand and corrected . Driven family members many times and impressed at price point and NO CVT. 4 cyl Engine good power but a bit noisy as most DI 4s aree. But good looking driving overall
Got this exact trim a couple weeks before this video came out. The only thing I didn't like about it was the lack of LED headlights until the very last trim level. I ended up replacing the light housing assemblies to accommodate LED's and the look is SOOO much better.
@Alpha Omega I bought the headlight assemblies from BMP Tuning for just under 700$. When I was getting my Tiguan coated in Ceramic, they had a guy that used to work for VW and he replaced them for 40$. The headlight assemblies require you to take off the front bumper cover, that's the only difficult portion about it. I assisted him and it only took about 30 minutes to do.
Thank you for reviewing a more mainstream Tiguan model. Most Tiguan reviewers do the R version which includes lots of bells and whistles (and expense).
We looked at the 2019 last year in preparation for a new lease. The one we drove had the two tone golden oak interior. It was the SEL trim. It was a really beautiful interior. They deleted that option for the 2020’s. We went with something else for many reasons but the interior really looks bland compared to that two tone golden oak interior. It made it feel like a luxury vehicle on the inside.
The real test is reliability. I'll admit I love the look and how practical the Tiguan is, bit it doesn't mean anything if it can't compete with Honda and Toyotas reliability
@@auralplex it gets out of the way pretty well honestly. With the 8 speed transmission, and in sport mode, the car moves. Premium fuel in these vehicles dramatically change the characteristics. Nobody buys a compact SUV under 30k for the power...
I bought this as a commuter car for school back when it first came out in 2018 and got a super great deal. Picked up a SE for only $23,000 brand new. Just a shame they got rid of the 6 year 72,000 mile warranty. It really was the biggest reason why I went for it other than the price.
Though the Tiguan is typically considered a "compact" crossover, it's really more of a tweener at 185" in length. (e.g. CRV is 182"; Rav4 181". Ford Edge 188"; Kia Sorento 189"). The low cost ($600) optional third row seating is cramped, at best, but it might surprise many that the legroom (27.9") is actually more than the Toyota Highlander (27.7")! So much for Toyota's midsize crossover on that score. Power is adequate but nothing to write home about. However, a Stage I APR tune adds about 70 hp and equivalent torque to the engine. And contrary to claims to the contrary it does NOT invalidate the manufacturer warranty unless the tune can be shown to have been responsible for a warranty issue. And if that isn't enough, APR offers a backup warranty for tuned 2.0L turbo VW's that's identical to the VW factory warranty. And before the inevitable comments about reliability, JD Power's 2020 3 yr reliability ratings put it at the top of its class.

I also like the infotainment on this better, however the Rogue is the softest driving car I have ever driven(feels like what I picture an old Buick would feel like with a four cylinder engine and in an SUV body), gets better gas mileage, will be cheaper to maintain, and she got an INCREDIBLE deal on it!

I do think this is a sharp looking SUV. Probably the best selling VW at this point? You make a good point about the headlights, starting to look a bit dated. I looked into leasing one of these and they make some good deals but still not as good as the RAV4 XLE with that TSS V.2.
Hi Joe...I leased a 2018 Tiguan SEL 4motion with the two toned golden oak seats in October of 2018. I was highly dissapointed with the Tiguan, the seats were uncomfortable on long drives, the performance SUCKED, when I wanted to go it hesitated. It was high maintenance, every 10,000 miles it needed an all wheel alignment, the engine was kind of loud, the fake exhaust were ridiculous. I got rid of it in August 2019 and purchased a 2019 Ford Edge SEL AWD and I am extremely satisfied with the Edge, it's like night and day.
Patrice Wilson wow I own one and I love it. I took it from Oklahoma to California and did buy a $20 gel foam seat pad. Fake exhaust is no big deal lol. And you traded for a Ford? talk about a maintenance nightmare: but you aren’t a Volkswagen person if you went to a domestic car maker with crap ratings! Yuck. I’m in my second Tiguan and they are great and affordable. This will last way longer than the Ford where it will loosen up by 45,000 miles and the tranny will slip at 80,000 miles. Yours needs wheel alignments because you drive straight they potholes. Wheel alignments are no big deal anyway. I’m guessing you and the family drive vehicles very hard. That Edge will not last long.
Joshua Rutter...My first experience with the Tiguan was a nightmare, I don't drive vehicles hard!...I take very good care of any vehicle I have from the exterior, interior and I believe in maintaining it. I had a 03 Trailblazer for 17 years, never had a problem, it looked brand new the whole time I owned it, no dents, accident, scratches ,nothing! Maintenance was kept up, before I traded it in for the Tiguan. The Tiguan was disappointing for ME, having to pay for wheel alignments every 10,000 miles and experiencing a "check engine light" the first two months of having it and driving it straight to the dealership and having them keep it for a week because it would have stalled in traffic on me. Never had any PROBLEMS like that when I had my Trailblazer! My first experience was not good owning this vehicle so, maybe I got a piece of crap from the Volkswagen plant. I found out the dealership where I purchased my Ford from sold the Tiguan back to Volkswagen instead of keeping it on their lot for resale, they kept an Atlas on their lot after someone traded it in and it had the same mileage and year as the Tiguan and it was in great shape just like I kept the Tiguan so, something must have been wrong with it if they didn't keep it. Don' t like the new Chevy's either!
Hi Joe I'm looking for a Crossover with the same Size. My height is 5'10. Probably I would schedule a test drive to check. I like the style. What do you suggest?
actually those aren't fake exhausts.everyone use that setup nowadays.almost all Mercedes Benz have the same set up.i thing they look sick.actually I think it's the best part..ofcourse straight duals from a lS6 are history.nice tiguan thou come a long way from the first one.good review.
they really improved this model - I remember when it first came out it was kinda botched & got a lot of bad press, but now VW is finally get there, BRILLIANT POST as always - your fan > TONY
Alien Circuits give us more details on what year models you are talking about. I own a 2019 and want to know what you are talking about. Most of the bad press is that the Tiguan isn’t fast off the line
3rd row is a joke, would have to be small kids. Weird that vw included them with the front wheel drive, it's optional (and more) if you want it for the AWD trim.
First it was redesigned in 2016 not 2018 (prob in America arrived later)- Second- the 2 lines on the side they both don't end, the lower line doest fade away- look better, it still reaches the back lights. Too bad American Tiguans are made in the Mexican Plant-
Bought the SE back in December (no sunroof - thank God!). I'd add three more zonks: 1. Start/Stop should have the option to be off all the time. 2. Start/Stop button could easily have been on the drivers side of the shifter instead of the fake buttons. Drove a 2020 Golf GTI for a week when my car was in for some work and the S/S is on the drivers side. Much easier considering I have to press it each time I drive. Not a fan of Start/Stop as it doesn't appear to be there for safety. Should be an option or just have the ability to disable. 3. The gloss details on the wheel and dash. They pick up and reflect light much more than I could've imagined. I find I'm covering them with my hand to avoid the glare. Any tips on how to dull that finish (short of sandpaper or something damaging) I'm all ears.
Redesign. Redesign! REDESIGN!!! 😂 I'd still pick the RAV4, especially in the red or blue. The overall design is just better for me. Maybe the Audi version can spice things up. Either the Q3 or Q5, well for me at least 😂👍 Great vid, Joe!
Really Enjoy your videos, But fake Exhaust is a deal breaker for me.Seems many manufacturers are doing this including BMW on lower vehicles,It looks so stupid when you get behind one and all you see is blocked off exhaust outlets.
Brian Ford it’s not a big deal. I’m guessing all the hundreds of pluses won’t win you over but 1 thing is a deal breaker ? I’m guessing you aren’t the target for Volkswagen and you weren’t in any danger of buying one. I own one and I think you are missing out.
@@2004cyrus I was considering the Volkswagen Tureag. I had a Volkswagen in High School and was the best car and extremely reliable.Im just very particular when it comes to vehicles and like things to be functional instead of fake dress up.😁
Brian Ford I’m very happy with my Tiguan for the price I paid. 2019 SE. The turbo helps so much with torque once you get going. It’s not a race car just like other cars in the segment. The Rav-4 felt slower so I left and went to the VW dealer and test drive the Tiguan and loved it!! I’ve almost had it for a year! Took it from Oklahoma to California and back- 5,000 miles and it handled everything perfectly. It was filled to the roof with all my stuff and it was quiet and comfortable and good on gas! I have only a couple small complaints but no car is perfect. I wish it had full LED headlights but the SEL Premium does. Luckily the taillights are. I wish the driver armrest was higher and could ratchet up. But the HVAC and 8” Touch Screen and HD and Satellite radio all work great to me! This car has some touches that feel well thought out that you find after you buy the car. Small touches go a long way. The cargo area is very useful with lights and hooks and power outlets and protective covers that VW throws in. My warranty is very long. The steering feels great and the leather wrapped wheel and heated seats work great. The second row bench is split and it slides forward and back about 6”-8” and the seat backs recline and you have the armrest with cup holders and then both front seat backs have pockets. You have second row air vents. There is so much- large glovebox with light and large map pocket/ carpet lined bottle holders in all 4 doors and they hold a ton of crap! So again for $24,000 with destination and the solid feel of the Tiguan, I’m more than thrilled!!! Get one if you like it. Lease it!
I've always liked these... Definite Good Value... Front clip is a tad outdated. Mount fog lights in the fake vents! Prefer a larger W/T combination, Rear quarter window, needs to be a full square cut design. "Better Made", potato chips, are better than, Lay's... Good review and commentary on the interior. Does this trim come with, or offer, AWD?? 🤔 Thanks, Joe. 🏁
@@2004cyrus Allow me to explain... Small to Mid sized SUV's Rear Quarter glass, in recent years, have come in various shapes, and sizes. i.e. Chevy Blazer, GMC Terrain. As a result, blind spots have been created, "at the rear corners", to where a driver, can't see a low profile car, object or child, while simply backing out of their own driveway. Unfortunately, their have been stories where drivers have backed over their own children , not realizing or seeing them, due to these rear quarter window odd designs. So, rear quarter window glass size size and design, has become a bit of a pet peeves of mine, and I hope this clears up my thoughts, thank you for your query! 👍
Donald M. Gawron hmmm maybe. I’ve never had those issues - I walk around the car before I back out of my driveway and check the tires and see what’s in the area. The cars have backup camera and rear cross traffic alert etc. maybe some people quickly hop in their car and back out. I guess things happen. I’ve just had a different experience and I take my time. I would hate for all vehicles to look the same due to those potential issues.
Well I promised the other guy who got excited last night and thought he was first to only find out he wasn't that I wouldn't do it so in five minutes I'm going to delete my message and pretend I was never here LOL
Can you leave the Tiguan running and lock it from the outside? I have a dog, and I would leave my car running on my Honda!! Loved that feature. Not sure you can on this vehicle?!
Ronald Bishop besides he is entertaining us. People will turn him off if the information gets boring. If you want to buy this car then inform yourself is the best answer.
I like how VW has added a bracket to accommodate a gas strut. So easy pesy. Begs the question as to why Honda, Nissan, Toyota and some others can't do the same, instead of insisting on using outdated prop rods...
I really have my eye drawn on this vehicle out of most, and the se-r line at that, similar to what joe did in 2018 specifically, pretty. There really is no weak point to design//comfort/functionality which are pluses, moot power but reliability, not sure who is getting a bad unit, following schedules, out of who isnt. You could be forward leaning with this optimism here, -definitely- great prices atm many dealerships (30-32k), however warranty shot down that is not good for confidence in their vehicles, perhaps that is the most telling sign to pass that they set the bar higher and could-not guarantee even that. If they kept that 6 year warranty, this would be a mostly favorable option. If they went 10, well, they don't put that much confidence into their vehicles (At least in US). VW are perhaps yet-still for people with expendable incomes/optimism but this is just not how it should be but it seems this is perhaps an equatable conclusion to VW-US affairs. THe country is IN LOVE with buying this shit...vehicles; vehicles and iphones. Perhaps one day the average public will demand more warranty guarantee instead of listlessly buying/discarding. Thanks again man for doing a Tiguan showcase this is what matters, seeing the vehicles/studying review and, good trim pick too. I like your vehicle picks in general but might go with that roadster after all. :) The picks shows more of the coolguy consensus making you not only a great reviewer but dependable quality judge for what is appealing/not. Top reviewer to know about auto for common joe's who have taste/concern. Go with Joe for sure thanks for being out there brother lets do more EDIT: HOLY CRAP, at this Reeves Volkswagen Joe's at in Tampa tiguan starts at 25k and se r-line at 28k, thats phenomenal considering up north they go for 30-32k routinely. One could argue that would cover any surprise major issues. VW would really have to F shit up to not cover past that.
Reminds of a new age Mitsubishi..you think your ever gonna do a review of the new Mitsubishi outlander and eclipse? I hope VW doesn't become the new Mitsubishi. This VW is boring to me...I dunno sorry lol
I don't understand why you are comparing Tiguan with CRV and RAV4? They aren't the same level, you should compare CRV RAV4 with similar models from Hyundai and Kia. Tiguan should be compared with other European brands. RAV4 and CRV is more like a housewife daily grocery shopper style car.
Was at Brandon VW (the other Reeves dealership) having my Passat serviced and they had a Tiguan parked outside the customer lounge. Gave it a look over, was impressed with how much room it had. Not impressed with hp and 0-60 time though. Not sure about the look, sometimes it looked pretty nice but has a bit of station wagon look to it. Prefer the Atlas Cross Sport.
Pilot and Highlander are much larger and more expensive vehicles. The Nissan Rogue, which is basically the same size as the Tiguan used to have a third row as well. That would be the comparison. But again, they deleted it. It’s still a compact CUV, the likes of a Rav 4, CRV, Santa Fe, Equinox and the Rogue. The third row in this is an emergency third row and is available without, which is probably how most are sold.
I really appreciate the fact that you zoinked things and appreciated some too. Perfect type of unbiased review

I have the atlas and the seats are the worst! Finally found a similar experience
Thanks for a great review Joe!
Denny Hwan Jeong if course man!
The fake vents actually hurt aero dynamics. If the front bumper was smooth with no fake vents the aero dynamics would be better.👍🏾🤷🏾♂️
Bennie Mangle Jr. I think these manufacturers know this. Most cars don’t have functional air vents.
Hi Joe I'm looking for a Crossover with the same Size. My height is 5'10. Probably I would schedule a test drive to check. I like the style. What do you suggest?
What's up with the blue post it note on the steering wheel? What are you hiding?
actually those aren't fake exhausts.everyone use that setup nowadays.almost all Mercedes Benz have the same set up.i thing they look sick.actually I think it's the best part..ofcourse straight duals from a lS6 are history.nice tiguan thou come a long way from the first one.good review.

ron s thanks for letting me share the laughs!
Dirty twinkies
they really improved this model - I remember when it first came out it was kinda botched & got a lot of bad press, but now VW is finally get there, BRILLIANT POST as always - your fan > TONY
Thanks for sharing that input and perspective!
Good video, very informative also made me chuckle a bit! Keep it up
Nice review! How tall are you and did your knees hit the back of the seats when in the third row?
Excellent reviewJoe. The Tiguan has many good attributes but some negative ones too. 👍
Great review ,no german pastries in this one ,perhaps a few Palparindos in the centre console
Joe great video!
Aviator hybrid or reg, Kia telluride, VW Tea Juan, palisade , what's your pick ?
LMK brotha
Ryan Scuba Rhino he likes Telluride a lot
Why is VW still using 7DCT in china for all models?
First it was redesigned in 2016 not 2018 (prob in America arrived later)- Second- the 2 lines on the side they both don't end, the lower line doest fade away- look better, it still reaches the back lights. Too bad American Tiguans are made in the Mexican Plant-
I got soft material in my dash
how WAS the road noise? My CRV has LOTS!
Actually really quiet!
Does this have apple car play?
the 2021 design looks nice so i think im gonna wait for that
Bro the snacks I can’t 😂😂😂😂
Raiti you should try an review the 2021 Cadillac Escalade?
Redesign. Redesign! REDESIGN!!! 😂 I'd still pick the RAV4, especially in the red or blue. The overall design is just better for me. Maybe the Audi version can spice things up. Either the Q3 or Q5, well for me at least 😂👍
Great vid, Joe!
Victor Le very good point!
Victor Le this is a new redesign as of 2018. I have a 2019. It won’t get a redesign until this one gets old in 5 years
Nice Tiguan, Joe! I love it!
Brian Lee I’m so glad that I can bring it to you!
@@RaitisRides Yes please. My city in Bellevue has a lot of dealers, my favorite one is the Tesla dealership in Bellevue Square Mall.
I got this because everyone and there mother has a Rav 4 and CRV.
I love this one!
I am so glad that you like this one.
Lease it!
@@2004cyrus I will definitely check it out. Thanks for the reply.
15:47 I feel bad for that dodge in front of you
Very good review. How tall are you? I'm considering getting a Tiguan and I'm 6'2". Would you recommend it?
".....for all your Greman Twinkies and Snacks...." ❤💞😂👍
I am glad that I can some laughs with you!
Thanks, Joe. 🏁
Donald M. Gawron I own one and agree with you ! All trims can be optioned with 4Motion!
Donald M. Gawron ewww a square cut like every othe me SUV? I’m so glad it’s not
@@2004cyrus Allow me to explain...
@@2004cyrus Fair enough... I appreciate the conversation. 👍
no remote starter or wires charge otherwise a great value
Jimmy C they offer remote start now and a wireless phone charger
How many zonks do you want?
Joe: yes
He had to be hungry when he made this video cause everything was about food. 😂😂😂🤦🏿♀️
And the 4 cylinder in this review model is the only engine option?🤔 Oh yeah, and are those headlights HID?
Bennie Mangle Jr. yes only one engine available - 2.O turbo. I own a 2019. The headlights are halogen with a daytime LED DRL
Well I promised the other guy who got excited last night and thought he was first to only find out he wasn't that I wouldn't do it so in five minutes I'm going to delete my message and pretend I was never here LOL
You are freaking hilarious!
Yep I get that alot I feel bad though and I really am a good person just a hardcore car enthusiast
Throw in a 6 banger and we got something here😂
You are on to something!
VW does not do 6 bangers well. They R version that is suppose to come out soon we’ll have the Golf R engine with 300hp.
Major Calvary But not for North America.
@@majorcalvary6515 a vehicle that weight needs more HP
Maybe the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder would work
The style is good. However, no acceleration. Needs a more powerful engine. Being a VW, reliability may be a problem.
I totally agree with you!
Good spot in the back for some jawbreakers
Eric yes sir!
Panoramic sunroof on sub $30k SUV, pretty good deal
Eric V very I own one
It is NOT included with the SE trim. It's an optional package for the SE trim. Huge.
Can you leave the Tiguan running and lock it from the outside? I have a dog, and I would leave my car running on my Honda!! Loved that feature. Not sure you can on this vehicle?!
You can leave the key inside and lock it from the app
Yeah I drove the CR-V and RAV4, definitely not anywhere as nice of a ride as the VW has. Just wish the engine had a lil more power, less vibration.
Thanks for sharing that great input from your experience!
You should also talk about the maintenance with your evaluations as well as warranties.
Ronald Bishop that takes too much time they can’t cover everything but you can go on the VW website if you really want to know the details.
David Hamilton oh yes I own a 2019 and love my prop rod. I only have one
Go with Joe for sure thanks for being out there brother lets do more
EDIT: HOLY CRAP, at this Reeves Volkswagen Joe's at in Tampa tiguan starts at 25k and se r-line at 28k, thats phenomenal considering up north they go for 30-32k routinely. One could argue that would cover any surprise major issues. VW would really have to F shit up to not cover past that.
German Twinkies?!? LOL! Maybe some Bavarian Pretzels? 😁🥨

Reminds of a new age Mitsubishi..you think your ever gonna do a review of the new Mitsubishi outlander and eclipse? I hope VW doesn't become the new Mitsubishi. This VW is boring to me...I dunno sorry lol
Brian Warner yuck.
What I don't understand is why this has less power than the previous generation!
MPG
Less horsepower but 20 pound more torque. And the miller cycle for fuel economy. It is about torque for the smooth family ride. 👍🏻

Completely agree,as they age.........
Everything you say is spot on. I will need the Atlas instead.
Thanks for that!
Prefer the Atlas Cross Sport.
no rav4 or crv give u third row so compare it to something like pilot and highlander
Literally the same controls as on the SEAT Leon lol
