Just bought this 6 days ago and I LOVE it. I actually compared this, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 4, Nissan Pathfinder. The Honda does have a few more standard features but it’s like sitting in a rat cage-very tight feeling, the others couldn’t even compare. This Tiguan really does feel like a mid size spacious and roomy. I got the S for $22k with 0% financing through VW. Definitely a great purchase
I bought 2018 SE plus Tiguan for my wife’s birthday. We like the price, long warranty, more features for the money and seven seaters. Only downside is under power little but shift to sport mode, everything comes alive. It’s better than most ford SUVs or Chevrolet SUVs plus it’s cheaper than Japanese SUVs out there. Forgets about emissions cheating thing because it’s gasoline engine not TDI engine.
I rented a tiguan for week and I was surprised how fuel efficient it was . Definitely killed the published numbers. I got 6.5L/100 in mixed driving hand calculated at the pump.
Great review. We have a 2019 R line. Great vehicle. Meets all of our needs. We are averaging 30 plus miles per gallon on the road. VW has a winner with the Tiguan SEL R LINE.
HAYWARD Allen, I have a2014 AUDI Q5. 2.0 turbo. The look and size of the Tiguan is about the same . I GET 30 m.p.g. on the highway and am now looking to get a Tiguan also . No real problems with the Q5 with 37,000 MILES. Servicing is key !
I just purchased one this past week and coming out of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude I’m in Heaven. This is seriously a fantastic ride . I’m really loving this Tiguan 👍🏻
I love my 19 tiquan r line I got last dec. Just wish I'd went for the premium r line for another 2500 to get better stereo led lights and premium leather with saved seat settings. I already have 36000 miles on it in one year. I definitely recommend it. We drove them all and to wife and I definitely love the tiquan
Part of convincing me that you love your Tiguan includes spelling it correctly. In your defense, I love my wife but both of us forgot our anniversary was two days ago.
Monte Beerbower same story here Monte!! I bought a 2019 and wish I’d have stepped up to SEL Premium for extra goodies! I have 7200 miles on mine. I also recommend it! And I drive all of the competitors as well.
Great review! Love your thoroughness. One of the best best reviews I have seen of this vehicle. I have placed my order for this exact vehicle...Thanks!
I have a 2019 and it's pretty underwhelming compared to the old model (which I also owned). Fuel economy is way better than the old and there's more space but the car is very sluggish and the suspension bangs over all but the smallest bumps. So, drive it on well paved roads and always drive submissively and you might enjoy it : D
I love my Volkswagen Tiguan SE. I am convinced it is the greatest consumer car on the market in the U.S. (IMO). This was/is my first car and I have to say its GREAT for a first time driver. Especially since I started driving at 26 instead of the normal 16 years old. Am I the only one who likes the start/stop feature? I guess I am cheap and want to save gas. :) Hail the Gods of Asgard and Vanaheim for this DIVINE car!
Hi, I am in the market for a small SUV. I need a car that rides soft and absorbs bumps. I don't need a bumpy ride. I haven't tested any of the vehicles yet. Can you suggest among Tiguan, 2022 Tucson, Rav4 or CRV which one has the softest ride? I did not add Rogue to he above list because of their faulty CVT's.
I have a '19. The lack of power is indefensible. In many other ways, the vehicle is the best in the class however. Sucks that VW is putting owners in the position of having to give up so much in the power dept though. 50 or so more HP, and this thing would render the CRV and RAV4 completely irrelevant in every trim level.
Think VW and others are trying to defend their mid size offerings. I said the same thing about Rav4, if it had a v6 engine then many Highlander buyers would flock to it. Same with VW with The Tiguan and the bigger Atlas.
I found the CRV as the slowest of the lot. The new RAV4 is also sluggish. Suggest you drive the Tiguan at normal or sports mode which provides enough power for fun.
Totally agree , I've got the 18 SELpRline, and i love it, the SELP rline trim and features puts the Tiguan in a different class IMO. I enjoyed this review.
Have you tried to set the steering to sport in individual mode? You can leave everything else to normal but the steering feels much more direct like that.
The Mitsubishi Outlander offers 7 seats as standard and it comes with a V6 engine on the GT trim. It’s not as luxurious as the Tiguan but the additional power is nice.
@@nabwong maybe? not to mention a GTI is a 6 speed manual or 7 speed auto, and is tuned differently with different compression ratios and a 2.0 engine with 258 torque and 220 hp, vs. tiguan 184 hp and 221 torque, and weight matters as well, Tiguan has it over the GTI by over 1000 lbs
@@melissacole8697 Tiguan comes with engine with b-shit-cycle. It's crap, not enough power. Sounds like diesel. Don't compare v6 to GTI 2.0T it has a different engine
@@kennycasado800 it depends on country, in Europe you have 3 versions, the normal, the big one and the big one with a 3rd row, the luggage capacity is different on the 3
Be smart. Change the oil every 5000 miles and use 91 octane. I noticed the difference and wouldn’t recommend if it wasn’t true. This is a miller cycle engine with a turbo. It will last forever (the block). Yeah. You are going to have to change the turbo and a water pump…. My 2021 has surprised me. 30 mph. NOT a GTI but I’ve owned two. This is legit. Mature and still fun.
Good review BUT Tiguan is a Mid SUV, not a compact, a compact is basically a Corolla w 4 AWD, like a quasqi Nissan etc. Having said that, if you see and old Gemini in the parking lot next to a Corolla or i30 you appreciate how much bigger (wider) hatches are these days. The tiguan is in the same class as Nissan Xtrail, Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4 , Mitsubishi ASX etc.
Why are there so many blank buttons on the fully loaded model???? If this were my vehicle it’ll bother me. I notice a lot of full loaded VW’s still have tons of blank buttons.
I test drove a 2019 Tiguan and the engine was very weak accelerating from a stop. I thought it seemed dangerously lagging in acceleration from a stop and would be concerned about trying to quickly accelerate into traffic from a stop. Other than that issue, I really liked the vehicle.
Based on personal experience I have lost lots of money, time and effort to fix the GSG gearbox after usage of 50 thousands KM. Please check the experience of previous buyer before you take the purchase discussion.
Aaron Hunter For North America, it is Aisin 8-speed Automatic but for the rest of the worlds, it is DSG - very frail transmission that requires expensive maintenance.
100% agree. Can’t move from the 2.0T Tiguan to this. Had one as a rental car and was very disappointed in the power. Otherwise checks most boxes. Leave it to everyone on the other side of the pond to get a true R version.
Nice review and very fair. We have a 2019 R line and to be honest the power, in comparison to our tuned 2009 Passat with basically the same engine, is severely lacking however once in sport mode it does pick up enough to tide me over until APR has the tune ready. Honestly VW got screwed in the diesel scandal and it's a shame they are not bringing their coal burners back to North America because they are incredible engines. So many others are now offering a diesel engine it bewilders me that VW is backing away here, yet still available in the rest of the world. Either way this is a GREAT little SUV. Nice job.
Thanks and and I agree about the power although it's pretty good compared to most in this class. Manufactures dont want to put powerful engines in compact SUVs because itll cut into their more profitable midsize SUVs.
Subarus are a money pit, I am looking at this as I want to rid myself of the 2014 Forester, had more issues in 7yrs than any car in 30 years...never buy another Subi...oh and requires premium fuel to boot.
For the 1st that trim must have the electronic suspension and depending on the drive mode it is soft or sporty and so on. The lane assist sure does warn you for keeping your hands on the steering wheel and this every 10-15 seconds. And yes, if it looses the road it simply wents yellow and that's it. In my opinion, this is a little bit dangerous because you always have to keep an eye on it... For the next it is an 4-wheel ride and offers off-road modes too for snow and real off-road which helps a lot in mountain and snowy regions. But for the rest, that car is awesome! Well there in Europe we have may more engine options... PS: you US customers can be happy because full equipped with a 190HP TDI you pay over 70.000,- USD. you will get that as a bargain and we have to pay the difference. Besides in Europe the cabin is better in quality and material than your US version...
Usually leatherette trim in this class is it real leather? ALSO vw needs a hybrid to compete with the big boys honda and toyota / A+ for roominess and virtual cockpit

If I was the kind of buyer that would consider buying a Nissan Rogue, then I would definitely prefer this new Tiguan. But I have been driving VWs with manual transmissions since 1972 and currently have four (92 Corrado VR6, 2006 GTI, 2015 Sportwagen TDI, and 2017 Alltrack). With the DSG, poor mpg, problematic panoramic sunroof, and expensive tire 20 inch wheels, you couldn't sell me this vehicle for $1. This vehicle is for moms who need to be seen driving SUVs, not traditional VW buyers.
drwisdom1 you might be right. I’m a single 35 year old man that just bought a 2019 Tiguan SE last April and I like it a lot. I came out of a lease on a 2016 Mazda 3 - I have arthritis in my back and needed a vehicle with higher ground clearance. Otherwise I would have purchased a Mazda 6 or VW Golf R. I didn’t need a crossover or care about what I was seen driving. I did get smaller wheels on my Tiguan SE and have already priced tires and I’m not unhappy with what the cost will be. just get a tune up. Read you can tune up anywhere from like 50 to 100 hp easily and depending on the stage of tuning, can be few hundred dollars to over a grand. Every turbocharged engine I read that's like this can be tuned up easily because of some software limitation if I understood correctly where you wouldn't be able to do the same for cheap and easy for non turbo engines.

No the most upper trim
Muy buen SUV para Boston... cool

Yes it does!
@@DriversOnly i just found out.. that tiguan in Malaysia doesn't have that... sad

Drivers Only CryptosRUS!?
@@Eric-sq2to Yup its me
FYI: typo on screen for rankings url. Liked your review. Perhaps more close ups of exterior details might be nice. Cheers,
Drivers Only lol I knew it!, hope you don’t get censored like the rest of crypto RUclipsr’s, good luck.
engine needs more power...
Gearsluts? The suv is a piece of garbage.
just get a tune up.
Ironically Europe get bigger engines . Even the entry diesel is 190hp
@@auralplex LOL it is actually one of the best crossovers in the worldwide market, it is best seller.
What does 'German look' mean?
So strange that it makes 184 hp, same car same engine makes 195 here. Must be fuel quality or something. We drive 98.
A bit confused. The webpage shows the 2019 models though you are reviewing a 2020 model
Both are available
Meu sonho de consumo é esse carro
I appreciate your videos. I'm going to subscribe. I'm looking for a compact suv 2020. I came from your video on the toyota rav4 trd off road. This truck right here is one unattractive truck.
Welcome!
Come on ...lets show the base model .....
My parent have one 😀
It'll make a sound if you have your hands off the wheel for long enough
اللهم اجعلها من نصيبي
Good review.
Thanks
Nice suv but too weak , and on top of that the mpg is very inferior compared to other suvs in the segment.
Mario Reyes the actual MPG according to Fuelly is very good.
yoooo sundown medows i see you!
I feel turbo cx5 is a better option
I reviewed a 19 model and thought it was great too, after I test the 20 model i'll see how it compares :).
I drove one and it was not bad but the Tiguan felt better to me and I bought the Tiguan. I owned a Mazda for 3 years prior and had no problems or complaints.
The look is very German indeed.
Nice space, but very underpowered.
Dat other Edge driving in front of the camera, tho...
