APR Stage 1 ECU tune bumps the power all the way up to 278 hp and 341 lb-ft according to their website. The VW 2.0 liter engines are very tunable. I don’t imagine people who are looking to buy a Tiguan will do it but it’s nice to know the potential.
Second to that! Added a Stage 1 APR tune to my MK6 GTI after driving it for 40K miles. Added another 40K before trading it for a MK7.5 GTI without a single issue. Not one. Can't vouch for the specific HP and torque figures APR claims but I have no reason to doubt them. The impact of the 30 minute ECU tune is immediate and more than significant and the impact on fuel economy (assuming you can discipline your right foot) is minimal, about 1-3 mpgs. Interestingly, the Stage 1 tune might be even more appropriate for the Tiguan than for the GTI. For a vehicle with a manual transmission APR recommends upgrading and/or periodic replacement of the clutch. No need for that in the Tiguan's AT. Further, the 4Motion AWD system in the Tiguan eliminates the torque steer and reduces tire wear that comes with the tuning upgrade. All in all, based on my experience a $800 investment in a Stage 1 tune is highly recommended
I recently purchased a 2020 Tiguan and I’m seriously loving my new ride . Mine has third row of seats and 4 motion all wheel drive. Agree with you on the smoothness of the ride . It handles great 👍🏻
I have a 2020 VW Tiguan SE, I put 5k miles on it and that car is really really good. The car it self is just really comfy and the infotainment system is really easy to use. I like how a compact car is actually really big and comfy for its price and I would recommend it to anyone. Also love the head and taillights, they look really cool.
I’ve got a 2019 SEL Premium 4Motion and love it. Wish it had more power but that’s my only real complaint. (I wanted a Mazda 3 HB but got ores of waiting.) I was a bit upset that 4 months after I got mine they updated the instrument cluster to the shape it is now, but that’s a minor complaint. The built in GPS could be better, mine came with a SD card from 2016 I believe and is outdated. Upgrade that and you’re golden. I use the cubby on the dash for an air freshener. I’ll occasionally toss my keys and wallet there when I’m going for a long road trip.
Badger your VW dealer and if necessary move up to regional management to get an updated SD card. In my experience dealer knowledge about the NAV system varies greatly.
I have a 2020 SE. I’m a little bigger than you & I love the leg room. Just took a long trip & I got almost 30 mpg. When I needed power to pass, I got it. I use the cubby for my phone when not plugged in to the USB port & for change. I recommend this car over RAV 4 or CRV, because of leg room, easy to use dash, & great capacity in the back (and the seats down).
I just rode in one of these via Lyft. It was roomy and seemed to have decent power for a 4 cylinder. I will say that the second row had a lot of hard plastic touch points. VW needs to up their game in that area.
Use 93 Octane, put it in Sport mode and it has plenty of power, really Joe, it does. I have a 2021 SE 4 Motion...93 Octane + Sport Mode = solid acceleration. And Laurie, as always, great video. Does Joe pay you with Twinkies? Love your reviews Joe! Keep them coming!
I am really enjoying my 2020 Tiguan, btw I use that cubby on the dash to put my smart car scent diffuser, it sits in there really well Thanks again for your review
You should try the sport mode , I see you keep driving in normal mode. Sport mode of this Tig give you driving smoother and more stable of the steering wheel.

I miss my 2018 Tiguan SEL. Great vehicle in all ways except power. Feels luxurious, great ride, nice tech. I’d recommend getting a tune, an APR tune will get this baby moving.
I put my parking permit in that little cubby on the dash. The permit is only useful while at my work. The placement works for me as I don't like the idea of adhering the permit to the windshield or hanging on the rearview mirror.
The Passat back seat cupholders are perfect. They rest at the top and provide a small space to rest arms and items. They should have just kept with that design. Still a nice SUV though
@@RaitisRides I appreciate the video. I am planning to go tomorrow to purchase one of these and found your video was very detailed and informative. We have been VW customers since 2016 and I have always liked their luxury look for affordable prices.

Nice if you like a 4 cylinder turbo but I’d step up to the Atlas Cross Sport with the V6 and the extra room. Thanks for sharing it Joe. Nice job as usual! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

Ive never owned a VW before, and on Jul 2020 I purchased the Tiguan.. and I have an issue with the SE 2020 model where it had low oil level by 3,500 Miles, dealer refilled it and said they would monitor it, had service done/oil changed at 5k miles. 4 months later at 7,500 miles the computer advised low oil level again (with maintenance scheduled 6 months) went to the dealer and they stated it was under normal burning level, and would keep monitoring; now im by 9,400 and pretty much expecting the computer to turn on the Low Oil level signal...is it something common that would be happening with the Tiguan ? any Advise for this situation. Im first owner and appreciate the advise/comments in advance!
@@brookereanne7272 no I have not. I have gone to the dealer about 4 times now. They did a burn test and said all was good. Im happy with the car but this issue really got me stressed out! Just keep an eye on Oil by every 3k miles or so.
I rented one on a trip and it was very nice. If only it had Toyota mechanicals. It might be a good car to lease, but never to buy. These VW's and Audi's don't hold up and are very expensive to maintain after 5 years. They also depreciate like rocks. Great cars in the warranty period.

Another great video my friend. Here in my country VW equipped that Tiguan with a 220 HP engine. Same as the Golf GTI. Mpg on the other hand isn't very good.
The "All Space" designation isn't used in the US. We get only that version and it's known simply as the Tiguan. The second generation original and smaller Tiguan is still sold in Europe but not in the US.
Looked seriously at the Tiguan about 18 months ago when the current generation was introduced in the US. A few points. () Although the Tiguan is marketed as a compact crossover, it's actually a "tweener." The average compact CUV is about 179"-181" in length. The Tiguan is 185" long while the shortest of the midsize crossovers (e.g. Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge) check in at 188". That extra length and especially efficient packaging is why the Tiguan offers such generous cargo space (up to 73.5 cubic ft), more than the Mazda CX-9, a midsize SUV that's over a foot longer (199" long) with 71.2 cubic ft of overall cargo space. (The CR-V offers up to 75.8 cubic ft of cargo space but that apparently stems from its bubble like roof shape with the cargo space measured all the way from the floor to the headliner.) () As Joe notes, the third row is cramped. But what he doesn't mention is that it's a relatively inexpensive $600 option, not a standard feature. Those who have no use for it can skip it. Furthermore, as cramped as it is, the 27.9" of legroom is a fraction of an inch more than provided in the nearly a foot longer Toyota Highlander (27.7"). If you're looking for a truly useless third row, try the Highlander's sibling, the Lexus 350L with 23.5" of legroom. Furthermore, though the third row is hardly adequate if transporting six or seven passengers over the age of eight is a frequent requirement it's very convenient for occasional short trips when the alternative is taking two vehicles. () When I tested the Tiguan I was disappointed in its performance. I'd hoped for better acceleration. But I'd have to admit that my reaction was probably influenced by the fact that I drive a GTI with the same superb EA888 2.0L turbo engine. Putting the Tiguan in "sport" mode improved acceleration noticeably but it was still no GTI. There is, however, good news on that score. A Stage I APR ECU tune improves performance tremendously at a price of about $800 and thirty minutes to modify and reload the ECU software.* And in a vehicle sporting the 4Motion AWD, the additional power can be handled without worrying about tire replacement as frequently. If I were to purchase a Tiguan my first stop would be my friendly APR tuning shop. * Contrary to conventional "wisdom" performance tuning such as an APR mod does NOT invalidate a VW warranty unless an issue can be shown to result directly from the modification. That is VERY unlikely in the case of a Stage I tune. In fact, I've never heard of such a case. But if one is still hesitant, APR (and I suspect other third parties) offers a backup warranty that mirrors the coverage of a VW warranty at a relatively small cost.
Absolutely shocked to see a third row in this compact suv never knew it had one. At this price point I sure think you are getting your moneys worth. I thought a zonk would be no ac in the 2nd row as some brands cheap out at this pricepoint! Quality interior it has a also.
@@1Nathanc Agreed. It's such a low cost option I'd expect to see most Tiguans on dealer lots fitted with the 3rd row. And as noted in my more verbose comment the 3rd row is usable even for a couple of average size (or smaller) adults for short trips when the alternative is using two vehicles. Our KIA Sorento is larger than the Tiguan (189" vs 185" in length) but it's still on the small size for a midsize SUV. We have a teenage daughter and a big dog so we keep the 3rd row stowed 90% of the time. But when we have to chauffeur a gaggle of teenagers to a local event it's a godsend.

Hey Joe. In Germany is also available at 220 HP. Why doesn`t it exist in the USA? But there ist now also a Facelift, perhaps it will get more Power in the USA. In Germany more People drive a Diesel and not a Gasoline engine. Great Test Joe!
Mr.Joe Raiti I knew what that center storage on the top was for near the steering wheel you could put like a couple twinkies there or anything maybe put jewelry or change if you wanted to
Could use a refresh, with the styling, but those body lines are definitely great! Would like to have AWD, at that price point. Clean interior, including the business side. No use for the third row and should be taken out, altogether... Give me, AWD, instead... During the road test, first reminder, this is German engineering... But I agree, needs more Hp. Nice review, Joe, however, a tad too small for me. 🏁🏁

Stephen Hendricks you definetly got your moneys worth
still missing auto hold ? 2021 model will have it ?
you had me at "Tootsie rolls, Twinkies, loose change" but lost me at the kids in the 3rd row!
What compact SUV would you buy just me and my dog and mountain bike i am not a hogh performance guy love Tiguan and CX 5 WHAT WOULD YOU BUY
I am going CX-5
In Europe this is called the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.
I miss my 2013 Volkswagen Passat this car have the same set up as my old car😍😍😥
Thanks for sharing that input from your experience!
Joe coming through with the family hauler for today!!! Honestly not a huge fan of VW but this looks decent. Thanks for the upload man!!! Killing it out here!!! #RaitisRides #OnThrottle #ToTheDoorPanel #TwinkiesGoWhere #CrownVic #OnThrottleAgain #ThatsAZonk
Certainly do wish they would bring the Tiguan R and they Hybrid here.... Europe just reveal the refresh of the car as well
Super detailed. Thanksb
Its just a matter of time when car tech can monitor your throttle input, upload that to your car insurance and say goodbye to getting better rates.
Already does that with the Beacon from State Farm. I cancelled. Progressive has it too. The little device they mail you and you stick somewhere in your car. Then connect to your phone and it sends you reports about speed and braking and every other stat under the sun.
@@joshua9073 This is different. its built in the car and i believe toyota one of the first to do it.
That tiny seat is where the kid sister sits so she doesn’t become an armrest again. 😂
Hey Joe. In Germany is also available at 220 HP. Why doesn`t it exist in the USA? But there ist now also a Facelift, perhaps it will get more Power in the USA. In Germany more People drive a Diesel and not a Gasoline engine. Great Test Joe!
Your probably better off just throwing the kids in the cargo area rather than using that 3rd row. 😀 Excellent review 👍
I think you are so right! LOL
Good job but...where do you live where everyone cruises in the passing lane and you saw fit to hop into the cruising lane to pass?
Hey have you had any oil consumption in the Shelby yet ?
Tray on the dash...corn dog tray! Goes along with your Twinkies/Zingers
i may like those fysical buttons more in the steeringwheel then digitals as seen some version. still can't judge till i can test
my self.
Mr.Joe Raiti I knew what that center storage on the top was for near the steering wheel you could put like a couple twinkies there or anything maybe put jewelry or change if you wanted to
Well done review. Can't help but wonder how reliable it is?
would a used infiniti q60 3.0 with 30k miles be reliable
I hate fake exhaust pipes.
The third row is a $600 option, not a standard feature. And AWD is a $1300 option.
@@stephenhendricks103 I'll gladly pay the $1300, and pass on the $600! 👍😉
Thanks for the Info!!
🤣🤣 I keep my chapstick there in the little dash cubby and it always melts in the summer but I'll never learn
