What a wonderful lady and a class act. She didn't get to talk much in this show, but I've watched a couple of interwievs with her in her late 60ies and in her 70ies and those have been very entertaining. Intelligence, humor, style, dignity personified.
@@jamesanthony5681 Not since 2005. A few movies in 2010. Hollywood is dead. There needs to be a new breed of actors, actresses, directors and writers to bring it back.

Her claim to fame was her marriage to Bogart, an actor who made everyone look that played opposite him. She never acted in a part that many others could have done just as well, if not better.
She started out her career at the age of 18 as a model . She was discovered by Hollywood when Howard Hawkes's wife saw her on the cover of Harper's Bizarre magazine
It's genuinely depressing that someone so beautiful such as Lauren Bacall lived in a different era to me. I don't think there's ever been a more attractive person that has ever lived.
OmGod! Somebody bring us a TIME MACHINE! I just love the charm of past people. Their 'finesse' and colloquial terms. Such adorable times. A true shame time passes and people go. Bacall is alive, however, as for April 2012!
I love the dress Lauren Bacall wears in this clip. I am thrilled to see how beautiful she was in her youth. And I am also glad to realize she, an octogenarian, still keeps appearing in motion pictures. She is a very good model for the future generations of actresses in Hollywood. Her class remains exactly the same as it did decades ago.
Betty Bacall was one lovely woman. Look at that hair when she turns her head. She was gorgeous from every angle. I remember reading in her autobiography that some guy in makeup on her first film wanted to trim her full eyebrows and the filmaker told him "don't you touch her eyebrows, I want her to look exactly the way she looks!" ...or something like that.
So many people commenting that “they don’t make em like that anymore” “that is a real woman”, etc... the industry use to be able to control all these celebrity’s images, so no, they don’t ‘make em’ like that anymore because celebrities are under major surveillance with their private lives shared with the public, which makes it almost impossible to craft and maintain such a strong narrative and public image like in those days. Ultimately, they would create an image that would sell to the public and celebrities had to maintain that image and do things like take on certain roles (even if they didn’t want to - in Lauren’s case, she was kicked out of the studio several times for refusing roles) because they didn’t have the autonomy they have today. These celebrity personalities are not authentic, they just learned to maintain them in the public eye and the whole industry was involved in upholding it. Lauren Bacall was a stunner and she was especially beautiful on this night. Not to mention obviously having a good time. John was also loving it! And who could blame him!
Her later appearance on the show talking about her successful run in Cactus Flower was in the 1960s. She was older then and also Bogart had died by then. I don't think she was necessarily influenced by Monroe here, but just being her animated self. Maybe in real life, at that point in her life, she was like this, maybe playing it up a little for the audience. It was quite entertaining.
i don't know what people are talking about- she is sexy and beautiful, those eyes, that way of walking, her voice, her open femininity, she's all around wonderful
Lauren Bacall is timeless--the standard of glamour, class, intelligence, and style.
One of the most beautiful and classy Hollywood stars ever. Those eyes and everything about her is just sensational! RIP dear Lauren.
Her hair is incredible!
There's very little about her that's *not* incredible.

Arlene Francis was right, Bacall was "devastating". She's still a class act today at 89.
