- EXTRA ULTRALIGHT FISHING
Why?
It's fun and accessible
Great way to introduce people to fishing
Easy to use home made lures
Catch fish in waters where “normal” fishing wont work
How?
Cast the lure out, let it sink a little on semi-tight line. Dangle the rod tip and reel in a little line. Rinse and repeat. That's pretty much it to begin with, but you can of course experiment with different retrieves as you learn more.
For lures I recommend small soft plastic lures, rigged on premade micro jig heads or make the heads yourself with flytying hooks and 4-4.5 mm tungsten flytying beads.
Gear:
The rod and reel that I use are from the ALiExpress brand mifine. I think it offers very good quality for the money and they have shipped both rods that I’ve tried from them very securely. ALi express also offers a great selection of cheap small soft plastics. I have not however tried a braiden line that I’m really satisfied from there, which is why I instead recommend Daiwa J-braid which I really like. Links are affiliate.

Il use that setup for trout 💯
Yeah it is perfect for trout!
I love using ultralight gear to target big bass because it’s so fun to bring in a big fish on light tackle. Even a 1lb bass is crazy fun. My ultralight setup is a daiwa spinmatic 7ft with a daiwa excelor lt1000d, works great.
Yeah that is some nice equipment! And i agree, it makes for really fun fights :)
I caught 1.5 kilo Abborre on my lightweight,it was fun.
Yeah that must have been a crazy fight! Congratulations to a fantastic fish
Can you tell about XUL vs. fly fishing? They seem quite similar (like you actually can carry flies on the XUL setup). Is it nice because you can do more versatile casting than with a fly rod where you basically need to be standing in the stream?
Yeah they have some different pros/cons. To me XUL is much more convenient in a setting where im fishing where a lot of people is around me, I rig faster and get really good contact with the fish. It is also better suited for throwing micro spoons and spinners that tend to twist the leader when fly fishing. Fly fishing allowys you to cast even lighter flies quite a lot further tho, especially if the space/locatio is suitable. It also allows presentation of dry flies of course. In the end it comes down to convenience and preferences, catching a fish on a fly fishing rod is quite different from a spinning rod, even if both are ”XUL” in their respective categories! Hope this ramble helps, cheers!
Whats your best tip for river/canal perch fishing using dropshot?
Start with small lures to locate fish, use small hooks. Then upsize. Focus fishing around locks and bridges and similar structures. Some days they really prefer a bottem presented lure like ned so try to not get totally stuck on drop shot!
how long is your leader?
I usually start out with about 80 cm but then i shortens down as I retie. Perch is rarely fuzzy with this but trout can be picky so the I tend to keep longer
Får du mörtar utan bete med ultralight? :o
De hugger på små flugor ja 😁
