The fact that the Z06 pretty much was neck and neck in the second race, speaks volumes for how far Chevy has come! Great race both cars sound amazing!
Corvettes have been performing amazingly for quite some time. Look up the 2009 ZR1, it was spanking supercars of that time. This is nothing new to Chevy, they’ve been doing a great job with the Corvette.

The Sport Cup 2R’s on the Z06 are like hockey pucks when cold, and sticky glue when hot. It’s tough to get them warmed up properly at drag races when they can’t do standing burnouts.

I experienced the same thing when I put slicks on my car. Went from a 12.3 to an 11.8 1/4 mile. Traction is everything in a drag race.

According to that second race, which is about as close as it gets, the tecnica definitely gets a little on the top end, but I'm curious how the vette would do with just the lip spoiler instead of the track spoiler. That extra downforce might be the deciding factor in a drag. Man that v10 sounds so good.
It doesn’t make too much of a difference in a drag race. The non z07s still post same et and trap speeds

The aero plus the car Z06 just passed 500 which isn't even broke in yet. It should get a tad quicker with more miles put on it
It will, from the engine to all the drivetrain components will loosen up and produce more power😳……….car and driver used to dyno their long term cars new and at 40 thousand miles and they always made more power than when new! 🤷🏽♂️

The drag from the aero slows them down at higher speeds as well.

Race 2 was the pick of the bunch & proves that the Z06 is great bang for buck & the car sounds EPIC !!! The shift on the Z06 sounds lazy so if a Transmission tune is available, I would definitely do it as that could shave off a couple of tenths & make it a more thrilling ride. Great content as always .... keep up the good work 😎
Part of the price difference. I fast shifting trans is really expensive. Getting into race car territory.

Im sure it wasnt on sport mode the z06 on sport mode makes ignition cut when shifting.
OMG, so refreshing to see someone willing to take advice who is new to drag racing. So over the big ego thing these days, he's gonna be a better drag racer as a result.
Great cars and great runs. The Tecnica trap speed is just insane. You can tell the car just keeps on pulling in the top gears, where the Z06 not as much. I just took delivery of both these cars (non aero Z06) about a month ago, but unfortunately have to wait for the weather to do any testing like this. THanks for sharing, awesome work.
what makes an exotic is more than straight line speed. The c6 zr1 was running the Nürburgring in 7:18 while the enzo , carrera gt, slr , Gtr were 8+ seconds slower. The c6 z06 same year running a 7:22 beat all of them as well. So there needs to be a definition of exotic or supercar vs hypercar vs etc etc. Brooks should havve run a pass or two in the vette. Brooks gets the best out of the cars.
The c6 Z06 was capable of a 10 second 1/4 mile as well. To this day the c6 is the most impressive corvette in my opinion.
the c6 zr1 did over 7.19 and that was with Jim Mero after heaps of laps above 7:25! A bunch of GM engineers were sent for weeks to tweak the car for the track and squeeze the best laptime. While the Enzo was driven a couple of laps without any proper adjustments by EVO car magazine journalist on crappy bridgestone potenza 050 tires and with electronic dampers issues. At the hands of a non GM conducted test the c6 zr1 did 7:38. If the Enzo would have been tweaked by Ferrari for the the NRing with a pro driver and better tires it would have easily posted a 7:17. Some people at that time went as far as to say that the Enzo without dampers issues and proper tires could have set a sub 7:15.
I love this Z06. It shouldn’t be expected to beat every car, but keeping up with these guys at $110k is phenomenal

I agree but if you can find a C8 Z06 for 110k let me know. This one on the video was optioned at 160k. Even a low option version is around 135-140k.
@@CbCloses you could if you were in line for an allocation and got at msrp. On dealer lots, not yet. But some in the mid 125s I’ve seen. But it’s an irrelevant argument, cause you also can’t get a Tecnica in inventory, brand new, at base msrp.

We’re splitting hairs instead of just respecting the value of this great car.

Ford is also not sleeping in the job either. The current mustang darkhorse makes a dent in the performance world (so did the gt350 or both the fords GTs). Credit to both companies for letting engineers do what they do best. And hats off for Tesla for showing everyone how to innovate. We are living the best era of American car companies. (Coming from someone from Europe)

@@jowarrioragreed. Ford and Chevrolet have been killing it for about a decade now with performance vehicles. I had a Focus RS, was supposed to get a ZL1- 1LE Camaro, but it got cancelled from the factory. Now currently own a Mach 1 handling package Mustang. Love my 🇺🇸 cars
America's been doing that since the 60s lol (Grand Sport, Ford GT, Shelby Cobra, ZR1, ZL1, L88)

The Z06 that did 10.3 had carbon wheels but did not have the Z07 package. for drag racing is the way to go. leave the Z07 package for track only

Crazy to think 15 years ago I took a 2001 Z06, Yanked the 5.7 LS6 and T56 and dropped in a C6Z LS7 427 with a mild cam and some heads and tossed in a 4L65 Auto with a 3500 converter and ran 10.00 @ 139
The last part reminded me of the race in F&F1 with Paul almost winning only to witness Toretto passing him at the very last yard and winning the race. He said: "I almost got you", and Toretto replied: "You never had your car! It does not matter if you win by an inch or by a mile, what matters is winning".
Nice race! Vettes always come close to supercars costing 2-3 times as much. That along is an accomplishment.

Hey Brooks, I noticed that Huracan hooks up better than virtually every other RWD Huracan. Is it running non-OEM tires? What do you have on there? Impressive runs for sure.
I always come prepared.... Toyos on the back, but I don't think I needed them.... Bradenton is a great track...
@@DragTimes It 60’ very strong. It would’ve been nice to see what it did on the stock rubber since the launch is where the Z06 is so strong for a RWD car and it’s a weakness of the Huracan. It probably got the Huracan an extra 1-2 tenths which would’ve had the Z06 winning in some races. Sounds like he was struggling for some reason though, probably couldn’t get enough heat in the tires.

That 2nd race was remarkable. Same reaction time and perfect launches from both, and all the way out to the finish, that was the purest race to really see what these car are capable of. This was fire.

@@Elberoth No the tires for the better start because the corvette had problems at that start as he said and as you saw. And the aero at the higher speeds as you also saw in the video.
@@MastermoussaLambo was faster AFTER the start, even when Vette managed a perfect start. At speed, bber tires would be of no help. Lambo is just a faster car.
That Corvette and Tecnica have similar aero though (the Tecnica might have even more with it's diffuser)
There is a power restriction on torque until the break-in process is finished. According to the Z06 owners manual, once the break-in period is completed, you can remove the limitation on engine torque by following these steps: turn off the vehicle, open and close the driver door, and make sure all doors are closed for 15 minutes.
Brooks, can you verify if this procedure was followed before the drag runs?
It went a 10.5 dude. It's safe to say the car is now fully unlocked.

z06 has to be cycled off once 500 mile break in is complete to "unlock" the torque limit in 1st and 2nd GM put. I wonder if the owner did that. Not that it would make a difference since his 10.5 run looked good. Plus these cars aren't known to trap high. 127-130 is about what i can do.
128-131 is typical for the Z06 depending on the weather yup. Some anomalies have trapped up to 134.

Longer gears yet the corvette can't hit 200 mph and the tecnica is a 200 plus mph car make it make sense
I'm glad you talked about the Corvette running 11s all day and then coming in to do a 10.5. That made me wonder: Why is it that Porsche, BMW, and Lambo always seem to do better as they do more 1/4 mile races in a day, whereas Corvette does worse the more races they do in a day? Do you think Corvette is better off underrating their 0-60 and 1/4 mile times like BMW and Porsche do? Chevy seems to post these nearly impossible numbers to achieve.

It has nothing to do with engineering guys. It’s the tires lol. Sport Cup 2R’s are very difficult to get enough heat in them to get great traction. Launches are far more consistent on the lower end Z06 tire, the Pilot Sport 4S. I ran 7 passes in my Z06 all within 1-2 tenths of each other. Incredibly consistent.

There are Z06s that have run 10.3s which is impressive at any price but even more so when it's $145K cheaper than the Lamborghini.
If your main criteria for a car's price is the 1/4 mile time, I am sure you can build one that is faster than the Corvette for half the price of the Z06. It may be a POS and not good at anything else but satisfy the 1/4 mile criteria.

I'm saying in the world of mid engine supercars the Z06 is a value for the performance it offers not only on the drag strip but at a road course as well. I find it hysterical that the majority of hate for the C8 Z06 comes from people who couldn't afford it or the Italian competition.

I know no one else would agree but I will take that Vette over the Lambo. That is the greatest production NA V8 ever created. I think the C8 looks great too. Both cars are fantastic but my choice is the Vette especially if I have to pay for it.

So, for a fraction of the price, you get similar performance out of the Z06 in a straight line. Not to mention the additional track capabilities. If you really want to go all out, then try for an eRay in straight line excellence.

Also in the case of the Z06 with aero pack they are currently trading for 200K and up, so I wouldn't call that a fraction.

I am not sure if I would be using the language "a fraction of the price" when we're talking $160k vs $290k. Yes, it's slightly less than half the cost, but that's really not that impressive. I mean, even $250k vs 290k could be described as a fraction of the price. That language used to be reserved for when a Lamborghini was $200-300k and the $65k Z06 was competing with it or beating it with slight mods.
Especially when you know that in 5 years that Huracan will be worth $220-230 while the Z06 will be worth $60-70k.
I'm VERY impressed with the Z06. Cant wait for the ZR1 and Zora. Zora should be a 9 second car! 😮

Used to be a GM fan until they took the nearly 20 billion of OUR tax money for the bailout and still have the nerve to charge customers 50-80k over sticker price for their vehicles. Disgusting business practice from a company that technically should not even exist... How soon people forget.
Correct me if I am wrong, but GM isn’t charging over sticker. The dealerships are. Plus, that type of practice is not isolated to GM.
It was actually about 52 billion. 7 billion was a “loan”, which they paid back. The rest of the bailout money became the govt equity, which they sold off for a loss of about 12 billion.

The Z06 also weighs about 200 pounds more and has more aggressive aero which slows it down up top. Both impressive cars. Where the Z06 shines is on track. Not much can compete with it. Including the Lambo. Money not being a determining factor, I’d take the Lambo.

lamborghini tecnica weight is 3040 lbs the power to weight is more in favor of the lamborghini. The Z06 is a bigger and heavier car.

No. The people that does those replicas are broke, that's why you see them on shitbox platforms like the Fiero, MR2, etc. You're never going to see someone starting on a $130k platform.
Now, you might see some one-off car designs using the C8 platform.
Ignore the other guy lol. There is actually a boutique supercar built directly off the C8 platform. Look up the Ares Modena. So yes, they are.
Once the motor in the Z06 lessens up after few more miles, it should easily pull ahead of a Tecnica!

As incredible as the c8 z06 is, it’s more a European car than an American muscle car. The used so many things out the euro supercar playbook. Things they pioneered and have been doing for decades.

I’d like to see more head-to-heads on the track vs. drag strip action that most people are doing. These cars are designed to turn right & left. Still fun to see the straight line speed, but more fun with corners.

Not at all! But a supercar with nearly 700 hp shouldn't have to struggle to do 130mph over the 1/4 mile distance. Especially new car. This in 2023. Look at how effortlessly and consistently the lambo did it. Now, sure, the Lambo is lighter. But it also has less power than the Vette.
@@TheTmat007 The Z06 typically does trap 130 effortlessly and consistently. I have no idea why this guy had so much trouble. I did 7 passes in mine and every run was within 2 tenths, all at 130-131 trap. I do street passes better than this guy was doing track passes even.
