I tried for 4 hrs to get a Proof Morgan when they first came out and couldn't get an order through, I won't buy any new Mint product remakes once I discovered some dealers had hundreds of those to sell when the limit was 1 per household and I couldn't get one. If they have the flowing hair medals left over then that is a reflection of past bad marketing management.
I stopped buying from the mint a few years ago because I had trouble getting on the website when new issues, and the rising premiums charged for metals. And I am happy to buy constitutional silver instead, or Morgan’s and Peace dollars!

Good morning Daniel, the lowered the mintage compared to the Morgan and peace dollars, but they should’ve made it a coin, that would’ve been a game changer, we need a Numismatist heading up the US mint Keep Stackin Bro
My problem with mint stuff is that it seems to almost always go down once the hype dies down and/or the people who paid the high premium accept that they aren't getting it back. The privy mark coins will probably always carry value but buying the medal with the hope of getting one is gambling.
I am a type coin collector. Years ago, I bought one of these in silver from a private mint because I knew I would never own an original. It cost much less than $104 dollars and it wasn't manipulated from the government mint to make something that would be overpriced when graded. And it is touted as a medal. I do not like the new stuff they are producing because they are not circulating coins. To interest me, I say change the designs of circulating coins to the old styles. That is true coin collecting to me. Besides, for years I bought from the U.S. mint everything they produced, mint sets and proof sets plus the commemorative coins. Some of those things one can't even give it away today.
@walterswanson3867 i really don't like how they sell silver eagles for $90 but you can buy them from a reseller for $35. That right there tells you what kind of premiums they are charging individuals
If they replace the current design the the ASE with this design for the next 5 to 10 years, then I would buy it. I don't care if millions were minted as long they are sold at the same rate.
It's Sold Out at the Mint as of 10/16 . I got 1 from the Mint and had bought 2 from Pine-Hurst on E-Bay for $109 each before the Mint released them. I'm sure they will check for the privy mark on the 2 coins before I get them or I would have ordered more . Better cost and odds than Vault Box at getting a multi thousand dollar coin .
I like your videos. I have gained a lot of quality information even though I've only watched a few videos (as you said in another one of your videos your pace is not for everyone) I am new to collecting anything. I don't see myself buying coins like real coin collectors might anytime soon. I like circulated modern us coins. I like finding coins in circulation, thrift stores, flea markets, some with defects, others the damage I find captivating, others just strike me as stunning works of art and craftsmanship. This is the only place I found the information, reasoning and resources relevant to what I want to know and not just click bait. Thank you for your genuine contributions to the ludacris world of RUclips and the internet.
Bought one yesterday morning around 9:am,I was surprised they were still available, just out of curiosity I checked again that afternoon and they were sold out, usually I always miss out on new releases,so I was surprised and pleased I was able to get one.
It's still a good deal because of the low mintage. The privy mark will only make money for those that get it first (dealers). That will not include the general public. Perhaps a hand full here and there. I still think it's a good investment. I purchased 2 Graded MS70. I am OK with paying the premium for a graded one because it guarantees me a MS70. If you buy it raw you still pay for a 50/50 chance that it will be graded an MS70.
I bought into the FOMO and found a way to get two medals purchased and I already have buyer's remorse. I told myself to stay away from copycat US Mint products but just lied to myself.
Reasons I'm not interested: 1) it's a metal not a coin 2) mint states a limit but last year they did that with Morgan and Peace dollars and then just before release, they dramatically increased the total mintage crashing their expected value with that switcheroo 3) the special privy gimmick will create 1794 random lottery winning tickets because there is no guarantee you will get the most desirable issue 4) by the time you get these special privy graded and out in the open market they will comp to buying a real original Flowing Hair. Why would I buy a cheap knock off flowing hair when I can buy an original for the same price? Me personally, I'm tired of the Mint gimmicks and shenanigans...
Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but the US mint produces a "limited" run of these and also includes a limited privy mark within the limited run (EDIT: There is also limited amount within the limited amount that will receive a certificate, so 3 levels deep).....sounds like all FOMO to me to justify the price tag and I doubt anyone will actually get the special one with a 1 per house limit, the dealers will get them.
@ronaldchatlos9562 also with the US mint, I don't understand why a silver eagle is currently $91. Is the mint direct package really almost triple in price? Couldn't they drop to say $35 or 40 and just sell more volume? They don't charge big dealers $91 an oz.
I live in Canada and received mine the other day. Although it cost me close to $180 CDN, it is a nice medal. I have been collecting for 60 years and although the bulk of my collection is ancients, I have collected silver and copper medals costing much more than this purchase. Whether it is a flop depends on what side of the fence you’re on. Numismatists mostly like it isn’t. Those wanting to flip it to make a fast buck probably yes. Only time will tell.
Great idea if you get the 1794 mark…..so many reprints in all collectables, wax boxes, cards……can’t see any value if there made every year, demand for a metal will probably be low I would think in the future……
Being a preferred customer of the mint got a text for this medal, but did not bite. Have also dropped subscriptions on other offers from the mint mainly because of the price hike. Inflation has taken a toll on my budget big items such as rent and groceries hit hard, the cupboard is bare. If I was to buy it would be some of the Morgan Dollars you have on your site, which always seem to hold their value and have more appeal to me. Old coins done well. You are spot on when you think the Mint could of done better by just doing it as it was back in the day. If we only had a way back machine. Low mintage is good.
It’s a medal not a coin so insignificant as a numismatic (less the scarce privvys). At $104 it’s hardly just bullion. I bought it for the art, so no not a flop…
I agree with your pro’s and con’s statement. I got 4of them for my legacy collection. I’m not worried about its future value. It would be nice to get one with a privy mark.
^^^^^ This right here. Got it because it looked cool and I'd actually never bought anything directly from the Mint before (always just from dealers / secondary market) and wanted to say I'd done it at least once. Also like that there's no identity politics behind this issue. :D
Well I was just at the Mint site, and they have sold out! Looks like the special coin that you are talking about is the mark of 230 which is only 1794 of them if I right! Glad I got one out this mess! An I just wonder who got the 230 number on this medal?RCTV got the most of them since they was running they pre-sale the other night an askiing for about 350.00.
Love your channell (sitting here in the UK) & like someone mentions below,I like the design so just purchased one..................................thanks & keep up the brilliant work you do here
I bought one yesterday because this is one of my all-time favorite classic US coin designs. Yes - it was overpriced. $60 would have been much more reasonable and still would have yielded a substantial profit to the US Mint. Also, it would have been better if it had been a Congressionally authorized coin with a dollar denomination and a lettered edge.
Well, the coin (round/medal) has been out for a few days. Now eBay is LOADED with them!! They cost just over one hundred bucks from the mint (mine will be delivered today) but the privy marked ones are being listed for well over 4K, with the numbered ones, 20K plus on eBay. Crazy. I saw one that was "1 of 230" listed at 28K on Ebay. Not there any longer, though. (Update: my medal is the typical basic w/o a 230 privy. And so it goes!)
I waited for my alert from the U.S mint to buy this. But I felt it in my bones I wouldn’t get the privy. It’s sad how many ppl hate on the U.S mint right now.
Mint stuff shows up on the secondary markets much cheaper months or years later, the flea bay folks take advantage of the fomo folks unfortunately; thanks for your insightful message!
I just did a video about the flowing hair metal what I think is instead of having it say remind me they left it like that so the people that didn't order one could that's what I think and it just went on remind me at 1216,pm est
I have a strong attachment to the original flowing hair designs from 1794 and 1795. I bought one of these silver medals purely for that reason so that I could enjoy the design in hand without being afraid to accidentally damage an expensive original. I knowingly paid a ridiculous premium for what is essentially a bullion coin. I'm not a bullion nor a modern coin collector and would never spend that kind of premium for something so readily available as an investment. I agree that the mint is devaluing themselves and unfortunately many other people by turning out all these overpriced bullion products. I fear a lot of people are going to lose a lot of money by mistaking such things for rarities and investments.
thanks for the video, I too think its a great release and gives collectors the chance to hold a flowing hair in their hand. By the way, the gold version is a coin and has the denomination on the edge. It will be original as well reading: "HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT". Take care!

I think it turned out as a success. As people found the potential value of the ones with the privy mark, they sold like hotcakes. I tried to order one and they're all sold out. I could enter 'Remind Me' to be on a wait list for unpaid and/or returned medals, but, none of the ones with the privy mark will probably be available. I understand why these reissues are called medals. Without a denomination, they cannot be considered legal tender like the Morgan and Peace reissues.
Good Morning Daniel, everything you mention is probably why is not popular among collectors. I think the 2 words somewhat degrades the value is Medal and Commerative! The public interest is Questionable.
I ordered one today when I saw it wasn't sold out. I was disappointed when I first realized last week that it was stated as being a "medal" and not a "dollar", but, I ordered anyways. I think the mint made the mistake of pricing raw silver ounces above the means of us regular guys and gals.
Wellll, it's sold out now 😢 For some reason I didn't get my reminder from the mint and missed out. Literally the only thing besides a mint set that I planned to order this year. Bummer.
Dan , you hit the nail on the head! if it was a coin and an exact remake they would have sold out in 1 hr IMA. The prices are going to kill the mint. I ordered one, I dont care what I get , I love the medal and the skinny chicken on the back lol.
I ordered one. I know it's to much to pay for an ounce of silver. I would have liked it better if it was a dollar coin, but I like the design, and I ordered it.
Alright, where to begin. 1, it resembles the original, and the hair is good. 2. What's up with her eye, it's too large for her face. 3. Her neck is also a bit longer, in my opinion, than normal anatomy. Now let's flip it over: Is that an eagle, or an egrett? Or maybe a Herron or a Crane? It seems to be making a mockery of the Heroldic Eagle. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan.
It's nice to see the design return, though I don't buy from the mint because $$$. I'm so used to seeing the old ones that a new one doesn't look "right" - I'd do some immediate toning of I bought one. If it's a limited run that hasn't sold out yet I think that's a FEATURE not a problem - that means people who don't know about it yet will have plenty of time to get one. The "privy mark" makes no sense to me - I wouldn't want that.
I guess it all depends on a person's objective. Personally, I think the last good thing that the mint did for collectors was the I believe 2019 "W" Washington Quarter. Because they were released into circulation. Therefore, you never really knew what condition you would get one in. S true chase coin and accomplishment. The "V75" made it even more challenging. These special re-renderings take so much of the chase out of the search. It's more like who has spare money to buy a limited medal or token that is at the very least going to be a 68 on a bad day.
Always good informative videos. I don't collect medals. Had it been $1 with edge lettering I'd have gotten one. I wonder if they'll have finning problems like prior medals.
As a collector, I feel that it’s overpriced for essentially a glorified bullion round. Also, like you said, they needed to mint it in the same composition and with the edge lettering. Using a the same striking method would have been really cool too. I personally would rather buy an 1840-O Draped half dime with a ridiculously low survival estimate instead of buying a couple of these modern ‘medals’. Just my personal opinion. To each there own:)
Yes I ordered mine yesterday 😂and I love the flowing hair design. Look I believe the limit order probably made it take longer for retail & resellers to buy them out of coins/ waiting room delays and bugs. 😅 I believe this will be a bigger hit than that of the Morgans and peace! THE gold one has letter edge with denominations 😮I am thinking about it but I would never buy from a pre seller even if it’s a reliable bullion dealer because I just need one for my collection . 😊
As you said a coin as first planned. Not a medal? If the mint re did a coin as in the past and priced it right I would have bought 1. It is a beautiful medal without reeded edges and a poor finish I'll stay with the origanals being US Mint Coins Thanks Dan great show!
You know what this really needed was some laser etched, colorised holograms of marvel characters in the fields. And then of course the Disney logo in RAISED, not inuse, but RAISED edge lettering. Because remember, this is a classy piece here. Spare no expense, I say. Then, the grand finale 🥁.... they finally do it. They unfreeze Walt Disney's body and bring him back to life just like he wanted, and he signs 1,794 of the COAs. The US Mint and Disney would be rolling in money. I don't think these board executives know what us real collectors really expect from the mint.
Im a stacker and just bought 1 .I hope It wasnt a mistake!I usually buy at spot or below. If shft its worth what ever .Should i get it graded or just keep it safe?
Yeah I have a subscription to the Morgan and Peace dollars just to keep my collection current. I saw this along with the privy mark teaser and went for it. We'll see. It's sold out now but they removed the household limit to do that
Being a medal instead of a coin turns many collectors off on these. Also the mint cranking up their prices on everything truly cost them many. many good customers. The 2024 Morgan and Peace issues, proof and regular, are still available months later so slow or no sells outs are going to be the norm for quite awhile.
All of the above. They're too expensive, plain and simple-that's the main thing. If they had priced them reasonably, say around $69.99, they probably would have been much more popular. We have corporations profiteering off us left and right, driving inflation-we don't need the mint gouging us, too. Also, that modern finish on the 18th century design looks very much like a generic silver round. Plus... there's just something about the medallic orientation that kinda cools my interest.
Love your channel, but why are the big dealers already selling ms 70 with the privy marks, how can they be positive they will get more than one or one for that matter.
Good Morning Daniel! ☕ I guess that medal 's worth lies in the eye of the holder. As for.me, I still have plenty of pre 33 business strikes to use my money on. I could buy a replica of a first run Chevy Camaro if I wanted to, but it would still be a REPLICA!!!!!!!!
Thanks Daniel. I got the notification and looked at them. Its not original enough and the cost is out the door. It's a flop for me, privy or not. I want the mint to mint remakes as the originals were....at a respectable price.
I like the 'sickly eagle/skinny chicken' classic design and bought one yesterday. If I get a privy, I'll sell it and then buy a certified example of the non-privy medal. Wish it was a coin with similar die preparation as vintage Morgan and Peace dollars.
It is overpriced if you receive one without the privy. It is a great price if you get the privy. It is outstanding if you get one of the 230 signed certificates and privy. I think a lot of people will return the medal if they get the non privy. I think that would be a low class move for lack of a better word, but it will be interesting to hear what happens.
Heavy premium for a silver round. They should have done it as coin and added it to the modern Morgan/Peace dollar program. Their privy quantity nonsense turned me off too.
I was on the fence, but I do like the design, so I ordered one. If it doesn’t look good in person, I will return it. It’s so hard to tell from pictures how the finish will look.
It’s a flop I bought it and I’m ok with it. I agree with Daniel the edge lettering would’ve done the trick but there’s that limitation from Congress yet again. Imho they dropped the ball by at least including this as one of the commems of the year that way it gets a $ designation. Not really that hard to have done in hindsight
It's has no denomination, strike one. It's a matte finish, strike two. $104 for 1oz of silver, strike three. It IS collectable tho. This is just my opinion and trust me, my opinion is worth what you paid for it.

If it does not say "One Dollar" on it then it is a medal. Now if they replace the ASE with this design then I would buy it.
Thanks for sharing. FOMO is a powerful thing, but why not within reason of course. If you get the privy marked one, let us know!
I got one an there sold out today
I cancelled all my mint subscriptions when they announced price increases. As beautiful as their coins are, the prices are just way too high.
@@walterswanson3867 what price would you have paid for it?
@@MM-cp4mi No where near the $104 they were asking. It's only 1oz of silver. The premiums are way too high.
@walterswanson3867 i really don't like how they sell silver eagles for $90 but you can buy them from a reseller for $35. That right there tells you what kind of premiums they are charging individuals
@@jessebutryn And the mint sales are down as well.
Thanks for the heads up. Apparently I ordered one of the last ones. They are all sold out now.
Bought one yesterday morning around 9:am,I was surprised they were still available, just out of curiosity I checked again that afternoon and they were sold out, usually I always miss out on new releases,so I was surprised and pleased I was able to get one.
I agree with what you said. Should be a denomination. And lower price a bit
Good thing you can just eat the shipping cost and return them no-hassle eh?
The US Mint needs to make a new $50 coin made from 1 oz of silver for circulation.
That will never happen. $100 gold piece is 1 oz
I agree regular customers don't get the special cains as Daniel said, dealers grab them up first because of their job or they have the in on it. Sad
It wouldn't have been a flop 3 year's ago. Inflation is absolutely decimating average middle class households. Thanks for sharing Daniel
As far as the flowing hair silver medal...I picked one up for my shot at the privy lottery! ✌️
It’s a medal not a coin so insignificant as a numismatic (less the scarce privvys). At $104 it’s hardly just bullion. I bought it for the art, so no not a flop…
Bought one hoping it might be a sleeper coin, and worth the price I paid down the road.
I agree with your pro’s and con’s statement. I got 4of them for my legacy collection. I’m not worried about its future value. It would be nice to get one with a privy mark.
I Got One because they Look Cool. As Of Right Now they Are Not Available Anymore I Think they Sold Out.
^^^^^ This right here. Got it because it looked cool and I'd actually never bought anything directly from the Mint before (always just from dealers / secondary market) and wanted to say I'd done it at least once. Also like that there's no identity politics behind this issue. :D
I think they are great. Hoping I hit one of the 1794 with the "230" privy! I bought mine today, graded and they were going FAST!
They may have been gone this morning, but they're all gone tonight.
I am not paying 100$ for an ounce of silver
You will one day, sooner maybe than later.
I bought one, but if I don't get the privy mark I will likely sell it. If it were a coin I would be more inclined to keep it.
I bet if the limit was 2, it would be sold out.
Day one was limit one per household.
They made 75,000 of every Liberty medal in the past. They never sold out as either.
But not of a rare US type coin design, this is different. Should or could have been anyway.
Denomination: $1
Finish: Proof
Composition: 99.99% gold
Weight: 1.000 troy ounce
Diameter: 1.205 inches (30.61 mm)
Edge: Lettered
Mint and Mint Mark: West Point - None
Privy Mark: None
Take care!
Yeh Price Too High a Medal Not Dollar Coin Plus Only 2 Or 3% Have The Rare Mark Worth Lots More? Yeh Hope They Fix Stuff Soon THANK YOU Brother! For All Your Great Videos! And Coins & Helps! GOD BLESS YOU YOURS EVERYONE RICHLY! SHALOM! 😊💚
I got mine and it had milk spots, a scratch on the neck and problems with the plastic holder. I am not happy about the quality control.
I ordered one today. I just like the design.
I think the capped bust half dollar design is better. Make new coins of those would be nice.
They still aren’t sold out. I just ordered one now simply for the limited mintage plus I’ll never afford the real thing
They are sold out now
Yeah there not available anymore SOLD OUT!!
I like it.i want one silver one.
Always good informative videos. I don't collect medals. Had it been $1 with edge lettering I'd have gotten one. I wonder if they'll have finning problems like prior medals.
Just checked US Mint at 2pm eastern and they are no longer available
Agree with your analysis. Positive except for price.
The gold is a coin with the edge lettering. The silver medal sold out as soon as the hol was lifted I managed to get 2 from the mint.
My thoughts 75,000 was a resonalble production number. The random privy mark brings some excitement, rather than just buying and putting away.
I have a 1795 Pcgs G6 3 leaves $4200
Im a stacker and just bought 1 .I hope It wasnt a mistake!I usually buy at spot or below. If shft its worth what ever .Should i get it graded or just keep it safe?
This didn't age well. But thanks for the info. Agreed, better than other things...
I am asking the viewer, I never stated the where a flop so the video isn't aged out, and this video could have been about any past mint product.
And 11,200 views and counting, hardly a bust of a video lol
The coins with the privy marks are going to go through the roof ! May as well be made out of unobtainium ! Its not fair for the small guy ! 😢
Dealers didn't get all the 230 privy marks.
Yeah I have a subscription to the Morgan and Peace dollars just to keep my collection current. I saw this along with the privy mark teaser and went for it. We'll see. It's sold out now but they removed the household limit to do that
it's a medal not a coin, i don't like the finish they should've made it like the original same composition.
It sold out, not a flop. Checking in at 8PM, mint says it's not available. I'm glad I ordered yesterday.
I got 2 of them. Hoping for a privy and the signed letter from whatshisface on the even lower production of 230.
The US Mint has turned into thieves. The amount of money they charge for there products are crazy. ☹️
I Like this, a coin design of long ago. Love to see this in silver or gold.
Love your channel, but why are the big dealers already selling ms 70 with the privy marks, how can they be positive they will get more than one or one for that matter.
They do this for a living and can do the math and know they will be able to secure as many a they need for their demand while they're hot.
Could be a good piece, but people have soured on the mint
They are now Sold Out!
