Hello my friend just a question I just replace mines because when I'm driving I feel Avery bump I'm going to replace the front ones too this weekend but I did not replace the top and the bump stopper and feels the same you thing the I need to replace the top part and the bump stop as well too thanks
Thank you for your question. I would probably go ahead and replace the top part and the bump stop. New parts working together with new parts sounds reasonable. Do well my friend.
Ok so just finish replace all of them and still feels kinda the same also the driver side came out without problems but the passenger oh man give a real hard time also that tire make my steering wheel crooked it looks like I need to get the car align by the way I'll buy all the shocks from monroe
Chris Lareau... MANY of the 2000 to mid 2000s VW Beetle and Jetta MOST DEFINITELY do have SAE 5/8 bolts . NOT metric. I guarantee you this !!!! (some do have metric). You are miss informed.
Anthony Cardoso,. You are not correct. MANY of the 2000 to mid 2000s VW Beetle and Jetta MOST DEFINITELY do have SAE 5/8 bolts . NOT metric. I guarantee you this !!!! (some do have metric). You are miss informed.
Why we Americans insist on using and addressing bolt sizes by standard on import cars? We all know very well all foreign card will use metric system and metric tools. Quit saying size 5/8 for those bolts.
Welli DS,Thanks for your comment. I purchased this vehicle with 80,000 miles on it. I don't know whether anything was changed out or not before I got it. Before I got started, I brought out all my metric tools; nothing fitted. My SAE tools worked perfectly. I am only stating what worked for me. I appreciate your comment. Once again, thank you.
You are 100% wrong, the brakes and rear struts on a VW Beetle are both Standard and Metric bolts. There are other parts on the VW whee you find Standard bolts as well. Get used to a global economy.
Hello Michael. Thanks for your reply. I purchased the vehicle at 80,000 miles. These are the bolts that were on the Beetle when I got it. Whether someone else changed it or not, I don't know. I can only attest to what I did to repair it.
Well, Your leaving out a lot of Details!! What Size of wrenches needed? We Didn't see what kind of job it was, because everything was already loosened! Did you use any sealant around the top mount to chassis? It is all about The Details of the job People want to see!

@@rodneyharris4059 👍☺️. I have worked on many of these. My neighbor was getting ready to work on his today and showed me this video. He found your video while researching how to do it. I rode in his VW beetle and heard the banging noise. I told him what it most likely is. And yes MOST of them take a 5/8 socket for top and bottom bolts. Not metric. You were correct
Now this is how you make a video, straight to the point . real nice
Thanks my brother! Blessings!
Great video-to the point, with no tacky music! Nice job.
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I really needed to see how the shocks attached before ripping into the job. Looks easy peasy.
You're welcome Shannon. Thanks for watching.
Glad I could help! You're welcome.
Thanks for your video. You went straight to the point.

Where did you get this set of struts at? Was it a complete with the boot covers and all, or did you purchase everything separately?
I got everything together at Advance Auto Parts.
Rodney Harris thank you.
@@rodneyharris4059 do u remember how much it was?
I think I paid less than $200. Got my parts from AdvanceAutoParts.
I bought door switches, bezel, dash trim bezels ,mirror switches, sunroof handles you name it.

I think that you have the right idea.

You're welcome
Are you not supposed to get them kinda snug put the car down and then tighten?
Exactly, thank you!
Gracias me ayudó mucho el vídeo 😃
Eres bienvenido mi amigo! Bendiciones!
Helpful video...I have a rattle in my 2003 NB, LR wheel-well...suspect a loose shock mounting bolts.
I had the same problem even after replacing my shocks on my right rear wheel. The dealer went in through the trunk and corrected it.
Thanks

5/8ths and 16 mm are the same
Der neue Anschlagpuffer ist viel zu lang im Gegensatz zum alten.
Good stuff
Was there a ‘hitting’ sound before replacing?
Yes, there was a "hitting sound" or "bump rattle" on the right rear. The dealer went in through the trunk and fixed it.
I replaced mine this evening. Took a total of 20 minutes. I think my fronts need replaced too.

Thank you Raymond. You're a life saver! I'd been catching a lot of flack about the bolt sizes.

Yeah, I purchased it used. Maybe someone replaced them earlier. 85k miles when I got it. Thanks
Guaranteed these aren't 5/8. It's a metric car.
Thank you. Your comment is appreciated. I purchased the Beetle at 80k miles and don't know if someone replaced the shocks and bolts before I did.
It's not a metric car. It's a foreign car with metric fasterners!
